Rex has sworn to guard the young queen, Britta of Downsriver, at all costs. He has also sworn to love her forever…secretly, of course. A relationship between a hulking, lowly palace guard and the queen is impossible. Still, when he hears Britta crying one night, he can’t help but offer his king-sized embrace as comfort. Rex is shocked when Britta is not repelled by him in the least. Miracle of miracles, she is eager for much more than solace. The penalty for putting his filthy hands on the virgin queen is death, but what a way to go...
"I’m very hard to miss. Six foot five inches tall and big as hell. I like to eat and it shows. It shows a lot. Not to mention, I’m an ugly motherfucker."
King Sized is a lusty tale of an insecure guard who has it bad for his Queen. Bad enough to risk his position and life by consoling her inside the bedchamber. And boy did his bravery pay off.
A soon to be Queen Britta has just lost her parents. A young woman left alone in her grief, until a lowly guard offers her much needed comfort and affection. Britta may not have noticed Rexington Monroe in the past, but he now has her full attention.
Rex looks down at himself. "This body is not worthy of you," he says, unfastening his pants. "But my cock is long and sturdy. It will service you well. I’ll see to it."
Grief brings these two together, however attraction binds them. Scorching lust that has them gagging for it and every turn. And the newfound knowledge that Rex gets off on being commanded by his tiny Queen, seals their fate. Britta just needs to convince Rex that he is worthy to rule by her side.
The novella was ridiculously smutty and the perfect read to get me out of a book slump. Sometimes all you need is pure entertainment, and a big beast of a man with a nice hairy chest that is more than willing to get on his knees for you…
After being super psyched about Jessa Kane's latest book, I was kind of disappointed it didn't live up to the hype 🙈 So my stubborn ass read another new-ish release by her, and I just found my second favourite Jessa Kane book!! 💖
“Will you be my king, Rex?”
Ohmygod!!! This was just so so sweet and the instant connection I was talking about? It's here in all its OTT glory 😍
“I will serve you any way you allow.”
30-year old Rexington (tell me that name's not sexy!) is part of Princess Britta's royal guard. Rex is totally infatuated with the princess, but they've never interacted before.
However, when Britta's parents are assassinated, she is heartbroken. Rex, being the sweet man he is, can't bear her agony, and tries to comfort her.
“I hereby order you to lie in my bed and hug me until I fall asleep, Rexington Monroe.”
That hug! Is it available for me, pretty please? It was one of the sweetest things I've ever read in a JK book.
Fast forward, both are insanely attracted to each other, and let me just quote this:
“It will be the greatest honor of my life to ride you, my queen.” His mouth finds mine, kissing it slowly, thoroughly, his tongue sinking into my mouth again and again. “To bring you to orgasm. To make the smoothest thighs in all the kingdom and beyond shake around me.”
Did I mention that this hero is plus-sized? Yes, he is, and is also a little shy and insecure about it.
“You keep hinting at the belief that you’re unattractive, Rex. What nonsense is that?” Her small hands trace up my chest, dragging back down to tease the strained waistline of my pants. “Maybe you have so much goodness and strength and courage inside of you, it just needed more room to grow.”
Of course, their love is forbidden because after her parents' death, Britta is now the Queen, and Rex is basically just her bodyguard.
He called me his. How far is he willing to go to make that a reality?
King Sized is a little different from JK's usual books, because of the whole royal aspect, and the hero not 'claiming' her at first sight. Also, a Jessa Kane book which doesn't involve daddy-kink is freaking gold for me. ✨
Definitely recommended to anyone who hasn't read this yet!
Not gonna lie, these books are entertaining as fuck. Just what I need to read when my mind feels too overwhelmed to focus on a story, but still wants to read.
I can’t figure out whether Jessa Kane is fetishising bigger men, celebrating them, has a kink or has daddy issues? Or all of the above?
Fabulous! This may be one of my new favorites from Jessa Kane! It wasn’t the hottest she has written, but it was still pretty scorching and had a great plot to make up for it! I would love more like this!
In conclusion, my favorite novella of Kane’s recents!
JK’s romances are OTT as it is. but add that with her made up historical world w/ queen + kingdom stuff (which i just loathed) and stiff conversations; double no
I’ve just been really, really enjoying these novellas of larger heroes. And this one was a submissive too. Wouldn’t have thought I’d be into it. But I was. Lol
Not my cup of tea this one. A very short novella about a newly 18 yo queen and her guard. Very vanilla, although the smut was satisfactory. I wasn't bothered by Rex being a plus-sized man, but it did bothered me that he was beta to the core, shy and insecure. Lack of confidence and self esteem is not sexy , not for me anyway. I can't tell you anything about Britta, because the only thing I gathered about her during 90 pages is that she's shy and sweet,oh and horny, that's about everything on her character¯\_(ツ)_/¯. 2.5 rounded to 3 stars cos Rex and his inner monologues gave me a few good laughs.
So like I've said before, period love pieces like these, those set in medieval times? These have never truly been my bend when it comes to romance or erotica reads.. I mean even when these tropes dominated the romance world, I was never good and truly on board with them.. I have a handful of period reads like this that I actually love, but those came few and far between to achieve that. I think it's the speech that they use.. People just don't speak that way any longer, so it always seems weird to me when I read it, no matter the time period the story is set in. Plus, let's face it, most of the love scenes usually felt or seemed.. lacking. Warm but not hot. Too safe when in the bedroom.
Having said all that, I really did like this story. I completely fell in deep Like with Rexington Monroe.. I hate that he had such a poor self image though.. He did not feel worthy of the Queen. Not just because of his station in life, but because of the way that he looked. Which really hurt and made me angry every time he put himself down like this. I thought he was hot on the outside, but his inner self made him even hotter IMO. He's strong. Capable. Rex is loyal, loving, protective and cunning. He can also screw a woman stupid.. LOL! All the qualities that a wise woman looks for in a man.
Britta- I like her, but she's too young. (18), who was unexpectedly made Queen of her people through the untimely demise of her King and Queen parents.. She could trust no one around her but Rex.. I love that she was wise enough to know very early on, that she could trust him. I love that she instinctively knew he was her choice. The right choice, right away..
This book has some hilarious moments as well.. Especially the first chapter. I laughed really hard reading Rexington's internal monologue there and in other parts of the story.
Now, since this is my 4th book I've read in a row by Jessa Kane.. I'm starting to think that this isn't actually a female author writing these books.. Granted, I have not fully researched this author or my suspicion, so don't quote me on this. But walk with me a minute so that I may explain.. It won't take long...
All 4 books I've read by this author thus far, even though their stories and characters are different, one thing always seems to be the same. These females in these stories have all literally just turned (18) years old. They're also ALL virgins. And their mates are much older than they are.. Eighteen.. That golden, barely legal age that seems to render most males completely stupid and slaves to their hormones. That age where they are legal, but still young enough to be groomed. Still young, with tight chords that have not ever been used by another male.. See where I'm going with this? Plus, the epilogues in these books always occurs 5 yrs later after the last chap ends. Leaving the female to be just 23 yrs of age.
Now, like I said I have not fully researched this to know if Ms. Kane is in fact of our beautiful XO variety, and this was only the 4th book I've read by Kane (in a row) that has this trope.. Kane's other books could very well be different in this way.. Or Ms. Kane really could just be a woman who truly understands how the male hormonal psyche works, and she wanted to market these books for women and men alike.. But, it still makes me wonder.. Just sayin. o.O
So I think from now on, for PC's sake, I'll just refer to this author as J.K. aka Jessie King, instead; moving forward. (giggles)
Would I recommend?=Yes.. Spice?=4 peppers Plot?=3 Plight?=4 MCs?=Yin & Yang Ending/Epilogue?=3.75
This wasn't my first time reading Jessa Kane but I'm always surprised by her storylines. This is queen and plus sized bodyguard romance that has a historical romance vibe to it. While the plot moved quickly, there were some sections that felt a tad underdeveloped. The sex scenes were well done and it was clear how much the two really cared for each other. I wouldn't expect much world development with this one because it's short like Kane's other works but I thought it was a solid read. 3.5 Stars.
This really got me and i loved it so much!! I have been looking for these tropes since forever and when i gave up i finally find it. It’s big boy, age gap, royal, bodyguard, he is big big boy but insecure and sub? And she is the young queen? Everything i ever wanted and more!! I was silently screaming and swinging my feet while reading this, it just did it for me. Something about the mmc saying “i am ugly, scarred and big for you my queen” and “serving you turns me on” got me pacing in my room at 12 am, i just fucking love it. I have been going through Jessa Kane’s books and this is my 3rd book and i know it’s my favorite of her!
This one was good. I’ve been putting it off because I don’t really care for the whole King/Queen/royalty in medieval times or whatever the hell time period this is. But I love husky dudes so I had to give it a chance.
Rexington Monroe (loooove that name!) is 30 and is a guard for the palace. Britta’s parents were just assassinated by another kingdom and she’s just become the queen at 18 years old. Rex is the only one to be brave enough to comfort her and she absolutely loves it. She appoints him as her personal guard.
Rex thinks he’s not worthy of her because he’s a giant, thinks he’s too fat, too ugly, too scarred and too poor for someone like Britta. But she doesn’t think that way at all about him and she’s just waiting for him to realize how much she wants him and how good he would be for her and the kingdom as her King.
So they sleep together after all and he discovers that he likes being ordered around by Britta and she really enjoys doing it. Fucking hottttt.
...but then the next day he accepts that she has to marry another prince so he’s going to resign from his duties. After a surprise second fuck with Britta, he breaks her heart by telling her some bullshit line and it was pretty asshole-ish of him. I was like... oh fuck no you did not just say that?! Grrr.
But of course he didn’t mean it and makes up for it and there’s a happily ever after epilogue and shit. Ya know... the usual.
Overall it was cute and I love me some big burly hairy men. Worth reading.
HERO - Rexington Monroe. Royal Guard. Previously a blacksmith. 6’5 and “big as hell”. Ruddy-skinned with scars. Crooked nose. Black hair and deep brown eyes.
HEROINE - Britta, Queen of Downsriver. Raven-black hair and emerald eyes. Golden-skinned.
OVERALL THOUGHTS - I think it’s safe to say the story is set in “Ye Olden Days” (maybe 18th or 19th century, but I don’t think we’re meant to focus on that) and we’re told the continent is nestled in the sea between Ireland and Great Britain. I really appreciate that Jessa specified where we are, if not when.
That being said, I'm sad to report I didn’t really care for this story. I do believe this is the most vanilla, and therefore least steamy, Jessa Kane book I’ve ever read. Our hero, Rex, is a beta male that loves taking orders from Britta. Ehhh...no offense to anyone who’s into that, but it’s just not attractive to me.
He’s yet another bigger hero who has low self-esteem. I let it slide in Hefty because the hero was in high school and still finding himself. But here, Rex is a grown man. He was a professional blacksmith prior to becoming a palace guard and it’s not like he’d never been with a woman before. I understand that he’s been teased about his weight, but I’d imagine that at his age with his life experience, that he’d have more confidence in himself than he exhibited. He came across as much younger than 30.
Britta seemed a little vague to me. She’s sweet and innocent, but that’s about it. There just wasn’t much to her. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s dealing with not only the grief of losing her parents, but also the weight of being a newly crowned queen. It meant that the entire story we got a heroine who’s unsure of herself. Pair that with a hero who is also unsure of himself and you get a reader (me) who is very unsure about this whole story.
Here’s the thing (for me, anyway). If Jessa’s going to keep putting out books about bigger men, I’m going to need them to have some confidence. Confidence is sexy, no matter the size of the man exhibiting it. Low self-esteem is not.
The plot was...okay. We’re obviously not meant to think too much about the historical aspect, but when the story already has issues, you can’t help but notice that something feels off about the setting and world-building because there’s nothing to distract you from it.
This is a solid three stars from me. It’s still readable because Jessa’s a good writer, but it’s definitely got some issues.
Since I was putting up Christmas decorations I grabbed some short stories. This one for example caught my eye because of the reviews, the fact that the main guy character was chubby, big, ugly and had a penis the size of a woman's ankle had everybody swooning, and well, that sealed the deal for me.
I LOVED IT! Was it perfect? Hell to the nah, there were so many wtf things happening that I was laughing sometimes, but with stories like this you just throw caution to the wind and enjoy, and enjoy I did. The main characters were so sweet with each other, it was totally insta-love but it's a short story so that's normal and the sex part was really hawt. 🔥🔥🔥
I loved Rexington Monroe, that's a sexy name right there, he was so sweet and devoted but he just couldn't control himself or his heart in wanting the princess. And Britta was a fearless queen who took what she wanted at all costs. Loved it!!
I'll close this with Rex's observation of what to do when a woman is crying. Cracked me up!
"The answer is: there is no answer. Sometimes they just want to carry on until they’ve emptied the well of tears and a man just has to sit there and nod until it’s over. Occasionally, sugar or alcohol helps, but that’s a gamble. If you give them something nice, it can make the crying even harder and then you are up shit creek, my friend. Best bet is to sit silently and nod in understanding. And—this is key—if they’re crying about a man, every man is to blame. That means me. All men are bastards"
When Jessa Kane hits it out of the park, she HITS IT OUT OF THE PARK. Give me all the big bears of heroes, especially if they are also submissive. Thank you, yes.
This is the super-steamy medieval bodyguard romance novela I didn't know I needed in my life.
I read this book for Smutathon and it was perfect. Jessa Kane's novels, when done right, are the perfect amount of smut and chemistry with just a tiny bit of plot thrown in. Which, of course, makes them perfect for Smutathon. This book was exactly as long as it needed to be and just as steamy as it needed to be.
So far Jessa has given us three big guy heroes (that I know of) and I'd like to start a petition for more.
A forbidden romance between a young queen and her big burly royal guard. There is loads of lust, infatuation, heated kisses, frottage, kinky lovemaking, some drama and a nice HEA+ epilogue.
