3.5. Covered the basics nicely, in a way that felt accessible. I feel like some important things were left out - most importantly, the risk of botulism in infused oils (and how to prevent that risk). And because of that, I feel uneasy that other risky things might not be mentioned either.
This is a really great reference book for the beginner herbalist. Its pretty well rounded but to the point with each plant’s history, benefits and uses, without being too lengthy and dragging on too far. Some books will define an herb and talk about its origins from all different parts of the word and periods of history to the point where the info is confusing and somewhat contradictory. While I appreciate that, I feel like that much info as a beginner can be overwhelming. This book is filled with all the basics of making your own tinctures, salves, teas, oil infusions, lotions, and more. I’ll be making some body butter with one of the recipes this weekend!
