Cruel Black Hearts #3

Sick Twisted Minds

Rate this book
My name is Stella, and for the first time in my life, I am whole. My killers keep me grounded, keep me sane, make me feel things I never imagined I would. They pick up the pieces of my black, twisted soul and hold me together. I would be nothing without them. But the past has a way of creeping up on you, and I’m about to find out that my past just might be the worst of them all. What I did…how could anyone forgive that? I don’t deserve forgiveness, but it's okay. My men aren’t the forgiving type. With the FBI inching in, with my killers and my Angel Maker by my side, time is ticking. Tick, tick, tick. When the gig is up and the curtain is drawn, when all of our mistakes are known, will there be anything left—or will we die in the same darkness we survived in for so long? This is it. The finale of our bloody, explosive story. *** This is a dark, psychologically twisted tale involving graphic scenes of violence, stalking, and other topics some readers might find triggering. 18+ Be warned.***

Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.

Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!

If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.

Happy reading!

If I don’t laugh, I will end up crying.

This is one of those series that should have been one book. There just wasn’t enough story or material to make this a 3-book series so the author ended up just repeating everything a million times, using more and more words to just fill pages and pages (see what I did there) but those words actually didn't add anything to the story; a very small portion of each book in the series actually tells something new.

I didn't like the first book and I was not planning to continue with the series. The last sentence of that book is the one that made me curious enough to go to the 2nd book. The 2nd book wasn’t that bad but it suffered the same shortfalls I have mentioned above. The actual story of the 3rd book started at 60%. And that remaining 40% was actually interesting.

So my suggestion for reading this series is to follow these steps
- Take the last sentence of the 1st book
- read 2nd book but skip all the non essentials and repeats
- start 3rd book at 61%
You might end up with a book that is slightly confusing, but not so much because of the repetitive nature of the narration. But I bet it will not be as irritating and will not waste your time. And maybe you can ask for your money back from the author for all the unused parts, or if you got the books from KU like me, no harm no foul. I just saved you few hours that you can use productively somewhere else.

Well this one took a hard left directly towards Whatthefuckington....

Note that this book is the third in the series and is NOT a standalone; books 1&2 should be read before this one.

This is technically the final book of the trilogy and does have a "set out in the future" epilogue to wrap it up, but there is a book 4, and of course I feel the need to read it even though this book was 50 shades of why. I am hoping maybe the 4th book that fills in the gap between the end of this one and the epilogue set about 7 years in the future leaves a better taste in my mouth.

5 gory bloody stars

Now that the trilogy is officially over, even though the author said maybe Stella and her boys may show up again, I have to say that I am really glad it ended how it did. In my mind, the end would be either a "blaze of glory" or sorta fade to black leaving us with just enough to wonder about and keep us guessing.

That being said, I find myself wondering why I tend to judge human characters harsher for their actions, even though in my preferred genre when supernatural/paranormal characters do similar things, I tend to go with the flow with fewer judgements...even when the books are interesting enough to warrant 5 stars...anyway!

It's gory, bloody, disgusting, and parts of it may make you vomit in your mouth. But if you aren't easily traumatized, it's a damn good read.

This last book answers all my questions and seemed shorter (not sure if it was or if I read it faster). The characters become a unit, which is great because one of them seemed for awhile to not fit with them.

I think this is probably not the fluffy bunnies or sexy times most people care to read. But for the morbidly curious? It's perfect.

A decent ending

This book had a decent ending to the trilogy. The first two I devoured and really was super excited when I saw this came out. Unfortunately it didn’t meet its mark for me. I think I wanted more steaminess but didn’t quite get it. This book is about wrapping up their relationship. I felt it was a bit rushed. I think another book would have made it work better.
The first two books still definitely worth the read!

I hard skimmed this one to get my answers. But even still the story seemed to progress very fast where answers were sort of being thrown out just to get them out of the way. At least that's how I felt. I still think this series was an interesting concept, it just wasn't executed the best for me.

Whoop, its the finale! Unless you count the next book which is set before the epilogue. Unfortunately I checked that out before reading this one, so yeah spoilers. Oops. I wasn't going to read this one, I was going to leave it. But I got bored and goodreads said 169 pages. Nice short ending to wrap things up. You lied Goodreads. You lied. Eh, I'd already got it from Kindle unlimited already. It was either this or play Animal crossing for an hour.

Compared to the other books, it feels like a wind down, calm before the storm. It also feels like Killian catch up time in the sex department. All three of the guys have pretty much now settled, viewing Stella as their world. So no planned killings in the works. Their focus is on Stella's mental health and Ed spiking her food.

Stella really needs to be kept away from the computer. Her posts were awkward and made me cringe. I'm glad the fanatical Angel maker worship is over in this one, instead its confession posts. The Callie conclusion felt a bit weak. Intervention, one flashback and acceptance after sex to forget. Other than that Stella just wants to kill.

The guys are weak to Stella and anything she does is the 'what are we going to do with you' thing. No murder wedding. That was a little disappointing and the murders in the book is what I would call stupid deaths. In both cases they knew something was wrong and still went on their own. The end post just made it ridiculous. I haven't seen a single show where the FBI or uniform hasn't made a murder of one of their own a priority.

Its consistent. All the crazy and worst stuff is in the previous books. There isn't really any surprises and a dead body just means sex close by. Serial killers on easy mode with a convenient exit strategy and a HEA doing what they do best. Ah, don't forget the kid. Its not a years later epilogue unless there's an addition. I will probably give the next one a go but it does say there are ties to Sins and Hillcrest, so will have a look into those. Sex, murder and the L word.

That’s it. It’s obvious to me now. I need to be committed.

Why?

Because not only do these three psychopaths turn me all the way on but I am doing an internal squee whenever they kill someone!

I feckin’ loved this series. I need more!

Remember me asking you how dark you were willing to go? Yeah, that question came about because of the sex scene I shared with you from book 2.
I’m starting to really get into my groove now peeps.

This is the shit I need!
Anyway, about this book.

STELLA

I love this wee lass.
She gives zero fucks.

About anything...except her men and killing.

Killing and multiple cray-cray lovers bring colour to a previously black and white world and she doesn’t want to go back!
And who could blame her?

I have always hated her family, I’ll be honest. If I had to grow up with the people she did? Yeah, there’s a chance I’d end up layin’ the smackdown myself.
Her mother and sister are heartless and selfish and I am happy to say that Stella finally puts them in their place.

Go, Stella! *fist bump*
I just love how she grows and comes into herself.

Yup, I’m fangirling right now :-)

She finally learns the truth about Callie and I felt so bad for her but as she recalls what actually happened that day I found myself not being too upset that Callie was gone.
Call me daft but I feel protective of this wee psychopath.

THE DUDES

In the last two books, I was not a fan of Killian and I was kinda hoping he would just fade away.
But I was wrong! Soooo wrong!

Yeah, I’ve accepted him as one of my own now. Along with Lincoln and Edward.

The guys are beautifully in love with Stella and will do anything for her.
Even when things get a bit out of control...which they do.

Blood is spilled and the three of them have to find a way to tolerate each other in order to help Stella.
When they’re all together there’s some amusing testosterone-filled, chest-thumping, macho bullshit competition, lol.

I love the insults they throw at each other!
The FBI is a huge problem in this one and a mistake by Killian leaves them with a problem they aren’t sure how to solve.

SEX SCENES

The sex...OMG, the sex!

Lincoln’s dick was hard and erect before her, but she waited until I positioned myself at her opening before taking him in. Me in her sweet, wet pussy, and Lincoln in her mouth, all three of us covered in blood. Her body was ready for me, and I slid inside effortlessly. I had no idea whether she and Lincoln were getting down and dirty beforehand, and I didn’t care. I was too wrapped up in the moment, feeling nothing but her warm walls surrounding my cock, the sound of her slickness as I pumped in and out of her, holding onto her ass. Across from me, Lincoln had a fist in her hair, his mouth hanging open slightly as she rocked back and forth on his thick member, in sync with my thrusts. Each time I pulled back, so did her mouth, and every time I pushed deeper inside her, she took him further in. It was a sight that might’ve enraged me before, but I was flying high in the moment. Today, watching her between us, it was fucking sexy. The hottest thing I’d ever seen. Suddenly I knew why Edward and Lincoln were such a team. Having a third person there was not a damper on the sex; it only intensified every sensation, every touch and thrust. I felt my orgasm come too soon; I suppose it was because this was all new to me, sharing her. Watching her with someone else. Erotic and sensual, to say the least. I didn’t bother to try to stop it from coming. I let it wash over me, grab hold of my body and take charge. My cock tensed inside of her, and I felt the cum shoot out, making her cunt even wetter with my own juices. My thrusting slowed to a stop, and I found Lincoln’s dark eyes watching, waiting. Lincoln said nothing as he yanked her head away from his dick, saliva coating its length. I sat back, pulling out of her, watching as bits of white dribbled from her pussy. My cum. Stella turned to me the moment he let go of her hair, giving me a sloppy kiss, helping me to a taste of both her and the other man’s dick. Lincoln hadn’t orgasmed, but I could still taste him on her, somehow. Together, we fell backwards, my back on the floor in the blood. Our mouths never disconnected, but I felt her being jostled, and with a peek of my eyes I saw Lincoln situating himself behind her, helping her ass in the air. He was going to fuck her right above me.

This was such an engrossing and twisted trilogy! I was more satisfied with the ending than expected, especially considering the events and character decisions leading up to it. This was a fantastic dark series...but not for the faint of heart (or sensitive of stomach)!

Confused

The first book I gave 5 stars because it was interesting and well told and I couldn’t put it down. The second book I only gave 3 stars because there were so many inconsistencies and the characters really didn’t mesh well together. But this book was just not well written. This book contains several murders. Dumping of bodies. FBI. Computer blogs and newspapers. Oh yeah..... and cell phones. Yet the author wants us to believe that the FBI can’t track computers, cells phones, and tail suspects. If the author wanted me to believe this was 1950 she should have said, “it’s 1950!” Just because I read an occasional RH book doesn’t mean I don’t want a well told story because I do. This book was just a waste of time. The characters felt very forced with no connection. I couldn’t figure out Killian’s relationship in ANY of this. It was really bad, I would not recommend.

An ok end to the trilogy. The epilogue had me rolling my eyes every sentence, but other than that, the story was pretty par for the course with what was offered in the first two books. Definitely gory, definitely messed up, definitely a unique read.

The series continues with Stella and her killers, ending with a no way out scenario that they find a way out of. Loved the epilogue.
Its a hard series to enjoy, its dark and sexual and hard to support. Its like an accident you can't tear your eyes away from. Even psychopaths get happy endings- apparently.
I did appreciate all the POV's, it helped bring a clarity to the series.

Great ending to a sick and twisted series

If you enjoy dark and twisted RH with plenty of murder, blood, and hot steamy erotic scenes then this series needs to be your next read! Candace did an phenomenal job creating this series, these characters, and the storyline. There were a few times where I felt the situation or events were highly unlikely but we can’t have our main characters caught and charged with murder. How lame would that ending be? 👎🏼 the whole mental health plot line was done very well and I was satisfied with how the author finished out the series with Stella. I was worried how that would all pan out once she started her meds again and found out the truth about her friend.

Overall, this series was so much fun to read because it wasn’t like anything else I have ever read before. It is worth the time if you enjoy this type of story with dark and twisted elements.

Better

Ok, by the third book CW finally got me. I was finally invested and I had to finish the series to see it’s ending. Which by the way tied it up neatly, I suppose. (It not usually my genre so I’m not the best reviewer.) The only reason I ended up liking this book was because of Lincoln’s character. I might have fallen in love with him a little bit. I wish she would write a book on just him. I found Stella to be annoying and boring and did not buy her character and her motives. While the whole Edward/Lincoln love triangle worked for me, The whole Killian aspect felt forced. He just kind of didn’t fit. Also, totally could have told this story in one book instead of three.
More Lincoln please.

Time I Will Never Get Back

I was sorely disappointed with this book and will not go any further with this series. It was like killing people that you didn't like or wronged you.Okay, I get why your family were a pain in the a$$, but did you name drop people that you actually didn't like? Let's not forget about the ending and epilogue. It was unbelievable that no one looked for the killers after the FBI was found dead. Come on baby-girl, I read some of your other books and this by far isn't a keeper. I know you still have it in you for a great read and I will definitely cheer you on as we trying it again.

The darkness is my friend, and the monsters are my lovers. I’ve found where I’m belong, and no matter what happens, I will never leave them, and they will never leave me.
.
.
Her name was Stella and for the first time in her life she felt alive and whole. Her killers kept her grounded, kept her sane and they picked up her black dark soul and pieced it back together. What happens when Stella’s past finally catches up to her and she starts to remember everything she didn’t want too. How could she forget? With the FBI closing in and her killer lovers by her side time is ticking will they all come out unharmed or is this the final countdown?

I will say this story and the way it was written was done really well and I really loved how much Lincoln’s banter has grown throughout this book. However, I don’t really see what the point was in this book I feel like we could have honestly cut down a load of this series had it into a duet and it would be a lot better than having it spread across 4 books. It also got to the point although I know this is fiction however it just seemed to get more and more unrealistic the more you read on and it just got a little bit cringy in the end. I also really tried to like Stella’s character but I can’t put my finger on it something about her character just grates on my nerves. All in all, the book was okay just wasn’t really for me. I will finish this series though, hoping the last book wraps everything up properly.

Another great addition!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I just am still so in love with this series and these characters, Stella, Killian, Edward and Lincoln really do grow in this book and I loved how they dealt with the realisation of Stella’s illness and truly were the only ones that ever could have helped her through the hardship of Callie.

What I loved was there were a lot of laugh out loud moments in this book too, mainly between the blossoming relationship between Lincoln and Killian! Oh every time he called him a f…ing Ginger i cackled, so simple and juvenile but just so Lincoln!!

I enjoyed how this story rounded up and ended but I’m also equally glad the author has released a 4th book as an extended epilogue of sorts, I could read about these forever, so I’m off to download that now to catch up on events that happened before the epilogue as I’m hoping there’s one part that’s covered and I can’t wait to hopefully get the guys’ reactions!

ROD? MEMBER? STRAIGHT TO JAIL 👮 Listen, I’ve read some pretty out there stuff but these books are just so outlandish & just get worse with each one. The repetition is WILD, we get it, homegirls got Heterochromia like enough you’re so different, so weird sheesh 🙄 also this might be one of the worst RH relationship dynamics I’ve ever read. Lincoln is the one who gets the most time, I’d say Killian is a close second which I still don’t get since she had ZERO interest in this man till she found out who he was then she was magically in love like WHAT?! Oh & Edward, he just takes the scraps. This also should have been one book, they are so short with barely any story progression. There’s still not one likable character & I can’t remember ever reading a book where that was the case. I think this would of been a better ending had they all gotten caught or something because common 🙄

Seriously sick and twisted

This is a book filled with bloody murder wild spicy times. Sometimes at the same time. Um...fun!??!

The Angel Maker is making headlines, Stella's repressed memories are coming to the surface, and adding a third man to the harem is a lot to take in. The FBI sniffing around isn't helping anything and then Lincoln's family makes him an offer he can't refuse. Plus there's Stella's sister's wedding and evil parents getting nosy and what about Callie? If I were Stella, I'd be having a nervous breakdown.

There's so much happening in this book, culminating in an unbelievable crescendo. I can't imagine what will happen next, but it looks like there's another book, so I guess I'll be reading that now.

Finally finished this story of Stella and her murderous lovers. It took a month not because the story was boring. But because I'm switching careers and have a lot of studying to do and couldn't give this book the attention it deserved. I liked seeing how the guys came to accept each other's presence but these were not characters you could root for. They were unrepentant killers and completely irredeemable. But some how there was one death I was looking forward too and I wasn't disappointed. This series was far different than anything I've ever read before and I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. I wonder if Tori will have her own story. Plus I'm still waiting on my beloved Markus' story. (taps foot impatiently).

A dark and deep ending

You really have to start at the beginning with these. You may not be able to build the necessary rapport with the characters without a thorough and thoughtful. Depending on how flexible and empathetic your mind runs you may not be able to build any necessary rapport with the characters at all. They are murderers with a very specific code that limits their victims only in so far as their emotional connection to them. There is extreme violence extreme sex and yet the bond between the killers is genuine and reads as a true reverse harem romance where taking care of the female lead is the true focus of the men, in as much as they are capable.

Ill be honest. I love Candace Wondrak's writing. When I am wanting something that push the edge and is dark, Wondrak is one of my go to authors. This series is dark enough to entertain the sense while being deep enough to provide plenty of material for book club discussions and debates. I love when I find that in a series. I am a little annoyed with L though, he is most certainly my least favorite character in the series and while I have not read the 4th book as of yet I do not foresee that changing. I am going to give this series a few more days to process and may come back to further expand on my review.

Wow

I don’t even know if I can describe this world more than I have in my previous two reviews.

This book, this series is not for the faint of heart. If you do not even in the slightest want to imagine what a serial killer or murder think inside their heads or how they feel when they do their deeds or even think about doing it don’t read this.

I’m sure there’re books out their more explicit and in depth them this but don’t read it if you don’t like gore.

Don’t even read it if you truly believe this world we all live in is black and white because I hate to burst your bubble but it’s not. It’s very much grey. Thousands of shades of grey if those many variants exist.

I love psychology so in turn I loved this book and this series from what I’ve read. It’s interesting to kind of see what a criminals mind and thought process are like. It’s intriguing to say the least.

So I did a huge rreciew for this, accidentally hit a button and poof it went....!!
So ill do a mini one for now..!

We see softer sides to the guys in this one whole they handle Stella's mental health and approach her about it.

Stella starts to get mini deja vu when the hidden meds begin to kick in but it's puzzling to her as she genuinely doesn't remember these flashbacks.

An fbi agent is getting too close to killian and to Stella but killian keeps a watch on him when he's not aware of it.

We leave the book with the four all on the way to Lincoln family for a new chapter.
There's no going back to what they left and they need to hope that everyone from there stats there too.....

I still think the first book was my favorite, but I have definitely enjoyed the others thus far (and looking forward to reading the last one). The story concept and characters are so enthralling and rather unique. These are definitely great books if you're in need of a murdery read.

As with the second book, I thought this one was a tad repetitive at times, unnecessarily so. That's my only real complaint. For example, she hates her family, we get it. No need to repeat that within the same book a dozen or so times. Beyond that, the story itself and the characters, excellent.

What is the point other than Gore?

The writing was well done but the second book just went nowhere... It's just about Stella killing and the sex scenes weren't really very good. They were pretty vanilla...I thought because of the first and second book, which I really liked, was going to be an extension of the four characters and we'd get to see them as not just killers. It's very unrealistic because there's no way the ending could have happened. This book book should have been so much more considering the first two.
