If you have read any of this author's work you will know how thought provoking it is. I don't think there's any higher praise for literature than that it gets others thinking and discussing. Phil M. Williams books are highly entertaining, filled with action and quick to read.

Things should be going well in Silver City since the end of the tax war. And in some ways they are. Several other communities want to become free cities.

But there are forces working against such freedom. The United States would love to see the free cities fail. Will the president approve troops on the ground to end them?

Truman Bradshaw helped form Silver City, but when things turn against him, will he continue his support?

Find out in the exciting fourth installment of the series!

Continuing the 2050 saga with energy and direction, this well written book 4 of the series is worth picking up for those who have started the series.
Social commentary is Phil M Williams’ forte, but the 2050 series takes us beyond the insular rural America of his previous books, into a future bottom up restructuring of society into independent city-states.

As Derek and Summer stumble from crisis to crisis, much of it of their own making, their hopes for freedom are dashed one by one as those in power resist losing any of it, with predictable callous indifference to those who get in their way. Derek’s daughter Lindsay is as foolhardy as her father and lands everyone in even more dire straits as this episode draws to a close. Naomi, like all her predecessors, finds herself trapped in a system that treats Presidents like servants of the moneyed classes, and her dreams of a government with a social conscience, fade. Accurate social and political comment, combined with an alarming future prognosis, makes this fast-paced book as gripping as always.

Phil M Williams delivers another thrill ride of ‘what-if’ for future America. This book follows on from the previous ones in the series so if you're new to the series don’t start here. As with the other books, what is so disturbing about these stories is the plausibility of it all. Rich people using the poor as pawns for their own ends. I hate to give away any of the plot so I’ll just say it’s well written and as good as the earlier books of the series. There’s a diverse set of characters in this book and their lives are hectic. The author mixes thrills, tension, action and more to create a really interesting book.

The fourth book in the "2050" series began with a slow burn and then morphed into a thrilling cliffhanger. The beginning of this book was slow, but there were a lot of machinations between the characters that are jockeying for power. I find this type of writing diverting. The book does move into a more intense and exciting conclusion that does end on a cliffhanger. I enjoyed this story and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Tristan Wright's and Sarah Grace Wright's dual narration continues to be entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.

Another great book!

If you've been following the 2050 series, you're not going to be disappointed in this fourth installment! I'm on pins and needles for the final book in July! This is an amazing series of books, that has turned out to be as true in 2020 as it looks like it's going to be in 2050, if we don't wise up and make some changes.
I have read all of Phil M Williams books, and they are all great for different reasons - besides making me feel, he always makes me think, and that's why I read all his books!

Does freedom come at too high of a cost?

Although part of a series, each book stands on its own as a thriller, futuristic story. The 2 main characters and those they love are buffeted by political winds in their quest for autonomy. AI bots hinder but also help them stay alive, hoping for a better future.

Not a fan

I’ve read every one of Mr. William’s books and greatly enjoyed them but this one... in light of the recent insurrection this was just too much. Glorifying hate groups is not my cup of tea, nor is pushing a selfish Libertarian agenda.

Enjoyed this book.

This book (4/5 in the series) did a good job of moving the story along. I’m headed to the final book to finish the series. I appreciate the author making these books available on Kindle Unlimited.

Will a peaceful existence ever happen for this family? One catastrophe after another blindsided them. 2050 is a superb, thought provoking series that every adult should read.

After listening to the first three books in the 2050 series I wasn’t sure where this series would go, but as I began listening to Enemies of the State it became obvious the direction it would take, but the direction was only the tip of the iceberg. Following Summer, Derek, Byron, Lindsey, and Patrick through their various challenges and adventures is like riding an old wooden rollercoaster. While the climb to the top may be a bit slow, the drops and turns are killers, and this story is filled with those drops and turns. Once again, Naomi’s story arc feels like it was pulled from the current news of the day, especially since there was an election while I was listening to Tristan and Sarah Grace Wright’s excellent narration. Now I’m wondering if I can rearrange my schedule to listen to the final book in the series right now. I received a review copy of the audiobook from the author and chose to provide this review.

This series is so good! Is this where we are headed in 2053?
I am voluntarily listening to and reviewing an Audible version of this series gifted to me from the author.
Book 4/5. Following these characters has been so entertaining and thought provoking. Do we want a socialist state? Do we have too much government control? Are we ready for robot everythings? Including spouses? Robot dogs for security and defense? Should we enhance and build our children? Etc. Etc.This ends on a cliffhanger. On to Book 5.
The two narrators are, again, just the best! 5 stars plus for them as well.
