Do you often feel like you are on the treadmill of life, worn out, tired, burnt out, and performing for God? Well, it's time that we get set free and enter into the journey of our true identity; it's time to take back the identity that has been stolen from us, stolen by life, stolen by religion, stolen by the enemy. It's time for freedom, and it’s time to apprehend our true identity. It’s a longing of mine to see believers walk in freedom and see them thrive, regardless of the season they find themselves in. Freedom from what, you may ask? Freedom from sin, sickness, bondage, guilt, condemnation, shame, religion, addictions, and Christian “performance.” The answer is more simple than we could ever think. As a minister of the gospel now for over 20 years, a lot has been seen, observed, and learned in this journey. I'm truly grateful for every part of life's journey, as it's formed and helped create me into all that God planned for me. I realize that what you are about to read may be new to many people, and for others, perhaps it will just help take you a little deeper into the freedom that Christ destined us to live in. This book jumps into the heart of the Father, union with Christ, a fresh look at understanding righteousness and the finished work of the Cross. Let's get free and walk in the power of God and be heaven's transformational agents.
A profound book on the meaning of our identity in Christ.
Some notes:
One of the root meanings for "kiss" in the story of the Prodigal Son is to be kissed clean (p28)
God is gentle but that does not make Him soft; He's strong but that does not make Him tough; and He's so mighty that He can hold the world together in one hand, but know you intimately and hold you gently in the other. He's the judge but not judging. (p33)
We are believers, not 'feelievers'. (p39)
Our identity is 'in Him', not as a 'sinner saved by grace'. (p46) Because the baseline of our identity is 'in Him', we can only sin outside our identity. (p55)
Grace is the empowerment not to sin. (p60)
In Genesis 3:7, 'coverings' means a partial covering to cover the bare essentials. (p62)
Sin is a governing principle or power, a personified force. (p100)
The standard of relationships between believers is not perfection but humility. (p115)
When God agrees to show Moses his "back", it means "time previous" or "beforehand" (p119f)
Redemption makes you the slave of another owner but adoption makes you a son. (p120)
Really solid overall. Has beautiful sections on being the righteousness of God in Christ. Something that truly is not talked about enough or understood in church. Gore also focuses on union with Christ and it's centrality to life... another sadly de-emphasized topic. There is some questionable theology here and there, particularly in the last chapter that is written by someone else, but it was good for me to wrestle with different ideas.
Chris Gore has done it again: blown away my misconceptions. Apprehended Identity reveals the believer’s ultimate union with Jesus just like his earlier book revealed our connection with Him in healing the sick.
Thank you for allowing the Holy Spirit to use you to bring clarity to who we are in Christ!
Having been brought up in legalism, this book brings Biblical foundation and light to the reach of the Love of Christ and his completed redemptive work
Amazing, Chris lays out his challenge to us to hold to God’s way of thinking about us, to stop trying to save ourselves and accept His gift of life and life in abundance. A good call to reform our ways of thinking and start living as who God has called us to be.
Al leer cada capítulo de este libro, pude experimentar la libertad de ser una hija de Dios acercándome con plena confianza a mi padre celestial. Toda mentira que me roba mi verdadera identidad de hija fue derribada.
