From K.L. Brady, USA Today Bestseller and the Author of The 12 Daves of Christmas, Comes the Laugh Out Loud Christmas Story You Need This Season...
Can the Distance Between Enemies and Lovers be Erased with a Special Closet...and A Little Christmas Magic?
Struggling Christmas crazy greeting card executive, Mia Copeland, is desperate for a new Christmas card collection idea. She’d rather stay home, decorate, and create a concept than attend her best friend’s annual Black Friday party. It not only kicks off the holiday season but also hosts the social coup of the season---a mating ritual that pairs singles (for life if her record stays intact). Mia’s a three-time party loser, and she’s not thrilled to be targeted as the next victim—again. Then Mia learns she’s coupled with the man she wronged...seconds before she walked into the gathering.
Unemployed executive Nixon McCloud needs a professional miracle and a date according to his best friend. With Nixon still mourning his father’s passing six Christmases before, his friend’s Black Friday party is the last place he wants to be, mainly because he knows his best friend will try yet again to pair him up with some mystery woman he’s avoided for three years. By some twist of fate, he lands at the gathering only to find out the set-up girl’s also his most recent enemy number one.
Then, seven minutes change everything. Mia and Nixon soon learn their meeting is for better—and for worse.

K. L. Brady is a D.C. native but spent a number of her formative years in the Ohio Valley. She’s an alumnus of the University of the District of Columbia and University of Maryland University College, earning a B.A. in Economics and M.B.A., respectively. A lifelong Washington football fan, she's a professed nerd-girl who loves all things Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Big Bang Theory. She's a member of Romance Writers of America, International Thriller Writers, the Maryland Writers Association, and Sisters in Crime and lives to write novels, especially those involving hilarious quirky characters looking for love. She is hard at work on her next several projects including the sequels to HER PERFECT CATCH (part of the Valentine's Pets and Kisses box set) because girls love football, too!
At first, I was puzzled by some of the poor reviews and then I discovered the reason. The flow of the story is decimated because each chapter repeats the dual points of view of the two main characters.
Mia's actions and dialogue are repeated in chapters 1, 3, and 5. Then Nixon's point of view, of Mia's actions and dialogue, repeats in chapters 2, 4, and 6. Horribly boring, to the point I almost DNF! But I continued because, in the past, I had read other really good books by Miss Brady. This story is corporate sabotage at its worse, mainly because none of the company's executives are being honest with each other. Even Mia and Nixon are being deceitful to each other as well as to their friends and coworkers. Lots of betrayal in this one!
This was a sweet and fun read. This is almost exactly the Mahogany Christmas vibes I want all season long. The place it misses is that sometimes the characters dialogue or internal monologue felt loop and confusing and I didn’t like the way some chapters would pick up the events from the other’s pov and it was different but somehow repetitive at the same time. I’m a big fan of rivals or enemies to lovers and when you add in all the magic Christmas moments it was a real treat. This is a “clean” romance from a new to me author and I’m going to be going back to read book 1 of this series!

I love K.L.Brady, I enjoy her writing and get her humor and I really wanted to love this book, however the pacing in the beginning was tough to push past. Jumping back and forth between the two characters felt unnecessary because it didn't move the story along, instead it created a lot of redundancy. I'm glad I pushed through the first quarter of the book to be rewarded with a better flowing story. I was sad to see the story end. This series looks like it will be a lot of fun and I'll definitely be back for more. Overall I'd say 3.5 rounding up to a 4 for Kindle and Goodreads.
Loved this fun and hilarious novel. Lots of suspense. The description of Nixon was so fine, you want him to be real for somebody. I laughed out loud so many times. This was a very good read. While, I’m typically a five star rater on books I thoroughly enjoy, I gave this book a four bec I thought they drank far too much. Totally a clean and respectful story. I’ll try some of her stories and hopefully K. L. might become another of one of my favorite clean black romance writers. Love at Christmas is are always enjoyable reads for me. Likely bec of all the years of watching Hallmark movies, and now I’ve found hallmark like via African American (Christian /Clean) Romance novels.
This novel had everything. The story was excellent, the characters were well-presented with enough background story to make them "real", the situations were believable, and everything flowed. The author weaves a good tale without sex, and with just enough faith and morals to make this novel attractive to everyone looking for a HEA Christmas romance.
I'm highly recommending this novel to all ages and faiths. It was a truly enjoyable experience to read it.
I didn't get really engrossed until I was around 75% through it. At times I felt it tried a little too hard to be funny, and the editing blips were hard to not notice. Also, I can admit that I just didn't understand part of what happened in that last staff meeting. And Kyle seemed like a throw-in character; I kept expecting to see him again somewhere. But overall, it was a nice love story.
This book was really good. Nixon and Mia's start is not the best. She stole a parking spot and wound up at a party with her victim. That they are paired off at the party makes for an unexpectedly fun night. Acts of kindness on both their parts bring them close, but they are slow to trust. The intrigue at work adds conflict to their relationship, almost ending the best thing they both ever had. Again, a good story, but the editing could have been better.
I recommend this story to anyone who loves a great romcom with a great plot! Mia had me literally LOLing! The story was written with such great description you could see every scene. I truly didn't want it to end. Thank you K. L. Brady for providing the perfect start to the holiday season!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
This is a feel good comedy. KL Brady always finds the right banter and wit between her main characters. Grab a glass of wine and water because you will be in stitches.
