I probably should have better read the description on the Goodreads giveaway. It probably would have mentioned the heavy Christian influence of this book. I was only going off of the cover. Though if you are into that, you’ll probably really enjoy this book! Just make sure you read all of the safety information pertaining to fasting that is also in the book. Up until that part, I was highly skeptical, but mentioning that it isn’t for everyone, what side effects could happen if not careful, and offering tips and tricks, made it feel less like snake oil selling, and more like they actually care about people’s health. The remaining 30-40% of the book is recipes. I would try to do them all in a completionist fashion, but quite a few of them ask for A.) tons of ingredients making it a little overwhelming, B.) Expensive ingredients which would really add up if I did them all, and C.) Ingredients that I would have no idea how to find like “coconut aminos”, “arrowroot powder”, and “sheep cheese”. I would cook a couple of them, but not all. Thank you for the book.
I've read so many books by Jordan Rubin and recently finished Josh Axe's excellent book, 'Eat Dirt'. The two co-authoring this book is a divine connection, indeed! I've suffered from digestive issues for decades and came near death in 2013. I owe my life to Jordan Rubin and his books, 'Patient, Heal Thyself', and ,'Maker's Diet', seriously. Doctors just shrugged their shoulders, scratched their heads and told me I should get my affairs in order. Enter Jordan Rubin's books. Everyone on the planet would benefit from their teachings. There are no words in the English language to express how highly I recommend all of their publications and products! 💕🙏🙌
Some good info about IM. I have been doing it for a while, but it is nice to find ways to tweak it. I gave it 2 stars because the whole "god" thing is pretty heavy in a diet book that did not mention anything about biblical stuff.
The information about fasting is good. I was already familiar with fasting the 16/8 method. I didn't care for the religious side of it. The history of fasting was interesting.
Quick and easy read. Good overview for people starting to fast, but not as in depth of a manual like Dr. Jason Fung. I most appreciated the extra chapters in there looking at fasting from a Christian perspective and how it can be used to heal not just mind and body, but grow in our walk with God. Unexpected, but appreciated none the less.
