R.M. Demeester, from Saskatchewan, loves being a mom, reading books, and writing. She's been writing since she was very young. Today, she's known for her stories in women's fiction, romantic suspense, and thrillers.
2.5 stars - I made it to chapter 5 before I was ready to throw in the towel. Piper annoyed me early on and Nicholas just.... Let's just say that he didn't strike any happy chords with me. Before walking away, I skipped to the epilogue. There were a few things that didn't surprise me and a couple of items that caught enough of my attention that I decided to bite the bullet and finish the book.
I wouldn't categorize this as a romantic suspense. It's more like a suspense where a bit of physical release occurs.
I listened to an author copy of the audio. Ri Paige was the narrator. She was OK. Maybe in a book I liked better, I'd enjoy Ri more. 🤷
Second Chance by R M Demeester is a quick read. I have read some of her other books, so I didn’t hesitate to grab this one. There are some despicable characters and I love it when I have some villains that I can wish the worst for. Nicholas, I didn’t think much of him and I was hoping that Piper would show him the door. I wanted her to develop a backbone and tell them all where to go.
Second Chance is not one of my favorite R M Demeester books,, but it kept me interested enough to have to know how things would shake out for Piper. I was satisfied with the ending and I’m moving on to The Name Once Erased, the third book in The Girl Once Known series.

Wow, this is some kinda listen. Great narration - smooth and easy on the ears, doesn't distract from the storyline that is oh so twisted. Main character is Piper who to me comes across so entitled, selfish and immature. I really didn't like her - they attitude she has with her mom and bosses and the way she back talks would have gotten her no friends where I'm from but when she meets back up with her former best friend from school Nicholas something doesn't seem quite right there either - but they seem to balance each other well but still the author keeps you triggered with topics that keep coming up so you know there are twists left to be resolved and WOW are there some twists! The book is listed as a romantic suspense but I didn't feel that was really actuate but idk how else to categorize it. Overall a great narration of a good book that has lots of twists and turns.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
This was a first time read for me by this author. I listened to this as an audiobook and the narration was done well, bringing the story and characters to life. The plot twists and turns really held my attention and kept me glued, anxious to see what happens next. The story was suspenseful and kept me on the edge of my seat. It was so much more than just a romantic suspense story and it quite the page-turner. Piper and Nicolas' story is filled with danger, mystery and suspense. Nicolas comes back into Piper's life after being away so long without any real explanation. Strange things start happening after he returns, and Piper doesn't know what to think. An engaging story, and I enjoyed the narration. Glad to have had the opportunity to listen. I received a complimentary copy from StoryOrigin and am voluntarily leaving my review.
R.M Demeester has written a lot of books I have enjoyed.
I liked Piper and Jasmine. I shared the same reluctance as Piper when she met Nicholas again. They had some good moments, but I always felt it was too good to be true.
The twists were well woven in, but I did work our what was coming. The book was well, and realistically written and had a quick pace. I didn't lose track of what was happening.
I did like the ending. I feel like I want a sequel book for Piper and Ivan's story.
Second Chance is more than a thriller, it has good romance and suspenseful.
Thanks to R.M. Demeester

I enjoyed the plot of the book but the characters annoyed me so much and made me want to give up. Piper was just absolutely annoying. Piper is a woe is me, type of character. She's like, "I wish there was someone to talk to about my problems", but she's literally yelling at her mother and kicking her out of the room when the woman is just trying to be there for her. Then she gets this idea to call Nick, I guess for pity or support and when he calls her back, she blows up at him. And Nick... well there was nothing nice about him in the beginning. His behavior seemed shady and I couldn't understand what Piper was even doing with him. I did enjoy the little twists here and there but I the characters just rubbed me the wrong way and made the story unenjoyable for me.
I literally could not stop reading this book. Piper was passed over for a promotion and her supervisor is a she devil. Then she finds her roommate dead. An old flame from the past unexpectedly shows up. I mean, what else could go wrong for this girl. I spent probably 75% of this book on the fence of whether or not I liked Piper. She wasn't very good at speaking up for herself and would rather take a nap than face reality and do something. But by the end of the book she stepped up and put herself first. This certainly didn't go in the direction I thought it would. I love when that happens. Good story.
Wow : R.M. Demeester wrote a story full of twists and turns. : R.M. Demeester wrote a story with suspense and that will have you at the edge of your seat . Heroine is Piper. Hero is Nick
Piper is wondering what happened to Nick. He was acting not like himself. Piper is wondering if Nick deserves a second chance. She gives in and gives him one , but you will a huge shock with the cliffhanger, you get hints but RM the author will get you with the ending Grab it and get hooked
Ri Paige performance is good first time I listened to her . Her voice is smooth and clear
Warning. The F word and sexual encounters are part of this book. Having said that, I was able to read through and enjoy the book anyway. From the first chance meeting between high school friends, you suspect there is more to the story than just rekindling a relationship. Throwing in clues that send you elsewhere for answers makes this novel take clever roads. By the end, you wonder how she ever thought things could be patched up between them. I was happy that things finally worked out for Piper.

Totally unexpected! This was such an interesting and unexpected reading! I expected a romance with a suspance, but I got it much more! The characters was oposed like night and day. Piper was such a doormat, and Nicholas was Prince Charming..... And the end was totally unexpected! I highly recommand this book!

This is the first time that I read a book by this author, I had to come in for a moment. The story takes you everywhere you go sometimes you don't know where you stand because it is just different than you think.
I had expected more from Piper that she would not let him walk all over her .. In the end she does what is right, the end takes a surprising turn I didn't expect,
read this book through arc team and through Booksprout i and in exchange I would voluntarily give an honest review
What you don't know about someone may kill you! Piper's former best friend Nicolas returns after being away for years with no explanation of why he left, and he wants a second chance. Something isn't right and people are dying in her apartment complex. Then her life is in danger, as well, from someone close to her. Who wants her dead?

Piper works as a transcriber for a company that doesn't value her hard work and dedication. After work one day, Piper walks to a coffee shop a few blocks down the street. Nicolas, her high school crush, who left with no explanation, is also there. This story contains mental games, a twisted kind of romance, and a bit of steam, ending with survival and happiness. Very highly recommended.

Piper is having a real bad day. And then she runs into her high school crush. Could this be it…..LOVE? But Piper’s bad day gets worse and despite being a loving boyfriend Nicolas is acting stranger by the day. Maybe this isn’t what Piper always wanted.
I wanted to like this more than I did. There just wasn’t any closure and the ending felt forced.

A Real Bad Day! This is a standalone book told in the first person; with an epilogue which I love! The author created very strong characters that evoked real emotions and reactions, the good, the bad and the ugly! There are plenty of twists, turns that keep you guessing. Its full of mystery, danger, explicit language and sexual content. After the emotion rollercoaster ride reading this book, I was happy and satisfied with the ending, well done!
This is a well written book with strong characters and an interesting storyline. The author does a great job developing the story and paints her scenes perfectly. She pulled me into the story and kept me turning the pages with the mystery and suspense along with the second chance romance. She moves the story quickly and smoothly and delivers a terrific dark thriller.

While I enjoyed this story for the most part, I was a little disappointed in this one. I have read a lot of this author's work and I was expecting the same intensity as the other books. Piper is not a likeable character. she comes across as unsuspecting and naive. It is more a suspense story than romantic. I received an advance copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
Good story with lots of twist and turns and when you throw in a second chance Romance what can go wrong? It makes for very interesting reading. When there is a murderer on the loose and old feelings are cropping up. The characters are interesting and they cannot fight the attraction that they have for each other. But do you risk breaking your heart again. Good read.

I had a feeling about this story - I guessed who the villain is almost from the beginning, but it didn't take the enjoyment I had from this book. Great story, great characters. The narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I listened to this book. The narrator did a pretty good job. I didn’t like piper she was pushover. She let everyone at work walk all over her but is short with her mom! I thought it way on too long about where she would stay now that my roommate was found dead. She is very emotional. 2 girls dead in the same apartment building. It was very pleasant to listen to.
This was my first R.M. Demeester's book. This is an interesting thriller. Piper and Nicolas's story is filled with danger, murders, secrets, and twists and turns. The characters are complex, and the plot is intriguing. Ri Paige did a good job with the narration.
Sometimes a lost love should stay lost. Piper reconnects with a high school friend just as strange occurrences start happening, two deaths and an attempted murder by hit and run. Is she in the wrong place at the wrong time or is she the intended target? There are subtle hints, but the ending is a surprise. I was gifted this from the author.
I've read several books written by R.M. Demeester; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story is about Piper & Nicolas; he is back in town and wants a second chance; she’s not sure if she can forgive him after he broke her heart the first time. After her roommate and upstairs neighbor is murdered she turns to him for protection.
R.M. Demeester does a fantastic job in writing this type of book, it was suspenseful and had that concept that I was looking for. The characters worked well and I was engaged with what was going on with this type of book. I'm excited for more from R.M. Demeester and was glad I was able to read this.

"Second Chance" is a profound and somber exploration of mystery and suspense. R M. Demeester masterfully crafts a captivating narrative around a couple striving to "reconnect." The intrigue begins early, with the tension escalating throughout. It is an enjoyable read at every stage of the journey.

Having completed my reading I was somewhat surprised to find that I still had questions. There were multiple twists in this one with nothing being as it seemed. Expect the unexpected and enjoy the suspense.
I truly enjoyed this book. I was engaged with the characters the entire time, which made it so I was completely invested in what was happening with them. The best part was the plot had so many twists and turns. I truly couldn't put the book down! This is a must read!
wow! Hooked from the start and a gripping suspense throughout. I like this author's writing style, how she reveals tidbits to keep you guessing and a shocker of an ending.
