A Dangerous Affair written by Rubina Ramesh. It is an fantastic story with awesome plot. After the long days I feel good. Story revolves around Charu and Dev.

Charu is a 20 years old brave and beautiful girl, who is from the village in West Bengal. Dev is a mysterious man son of Zamindar. The story is set up around 1947. Dev saved Charu from the two British soldiers by wearing mask.

She got work in Zamindar house, here he falls for Dev. Romantic thriller makes the read more beautiful and interesting. Ending of the story is excellent. I just loved this wonderful story.

I love the writing and the flow of the story too. The narration keeps you engaged throughout the reading and doesn't let you keep down the book. I enjoyed the lucid writing style of the author.

Revenge

A beautifull romance during the independence.
Young love you may call it naive. Well in my preference its better called "Revengeful love".
Only question will love overcome revenge, will Charu be able to complete her task.
Happy reading.

The dangerous affair is a story set in West bengal in pre Independence time when the Red coats or Britishers ruled over the poor Indians; finding solace in the atrocities caused onto the poor villagers. The plot starts with one such atrocities ,where few britishers are trying get their pants down molesting a Santali village girl, Charu.Charu (20y/o) battling between kicking their balls or succumbing to their evil mouths, lays there numb.In a while she witness a guy with covered face , who effortlessly fights over to save Charu. Little did Charu knew that this act of taking lives by the stranger would cost Charu very badly. That night , happened an attack on their village in which Charu lost her sister and brother. The attack may have avoided ,if she had confided everything to her father. But she herself didn't know the reason for that attack until ,heard from someone about the search for Captain's murderer. All these things going on in her head, she couldn't deny her father's pleading of going to Zamindar Babu's palace to find the whereabouts of Captain Butler, a powerful man under whom these poor peoples village and areas are. Will Charu be able to accomplish the mission for her people? For this you must pick this book.
The story from the start maintains its quality and do not get bore, along with thrill. The characters woven, seems effortlessly attractive , which adds brownie points to our likeness to the story. What I really liked is the portrayal of the cruelty to the villagers and how they are treated, the rawness which our country had to witness. The writing style is lucid. Overall I liked the mood set by the book which kept me hooked throughout the story and this would be undoubtedly a good pick for history lovers.

Dangerous affair by Rubina Ramesh
Dangerous affair is set in pre independence India specifically during the time of partition. I had few preconceived notions and I was worried whether novel will follow the cliche troupes of the genre but to my surprise it was quite refreshing to read.
Dangerous follows the story of Dev rich zamindar's son and Charu poor girl from a tribe. Their paths were never meant to be crossed in a way they do, but they do cross. Book does have few elements of stock love story but even they were given a refreshing twist to it. There was also a mystery element to it! We have grown up reading and learning about the stories of partition and colonialism, so it was kind of given what will happen at the end. And yet, I was hooked. I wanted to know what will happen. That just is the plain mastery of writer.
Narrative technique is good. Plot is excellent and moves in good pace. Characters are well developed. I really liked Charu. I admire the fire within her seeking justice for her tribe and her family. I felt like she was born ahead of her times.
I really loved this book. It is definitely must read for all.

In the backdrop of India's struggle for independence, the author has woven a poignant romance. A daring heroine to root for and a larger-than-life hero to die for! The Redcoats, the greedy zamindar, the conniving munshi enhancing the charm of the story. A Dangerous Affair takes us to a time when patriotism was running high and feeling to die for the motherland at its peak.

A Dangerous Affair - A British Raj Romance

by Rubina Ramesh

The protagonists - Charu and Dev are all set to give the readers a mind numbing experience throughout.
This book makes you feel excited and nervous at the same time with its intriguing mysterious approach to the human instincts. The rollercoaster ride begins in the reader's mind from the very beginning as the protagonists are humble and fierce simultaneously. The approach to the situations is the creator of romance and humility with kindness and compassion.

Speaking of the plot, it was equipped with a very promising and well-staged premise. This is one of those books where the storyline itself is so concrete and imaginative, that the rest of the branches of the story all somehow adjust and fit in. The characters themselves uphold the air of mystery and secrecy that is the icing on the cake.

The story has done justice in the framework of romance and thrill at the very same moment. The author has undoubtedly proceeded with the creative imagination with some of the Easter eggs hidden only for those who wish to know the life of the protagonist completely. The simple yet affluent writing style of the author would pamper the readers with an unaltered engagement.

The book is a very light and relevant read especially in context of modern relationships. The book is recommended for those who have a high end interest in an intriguing romantic thriller and a definite page turner!

The book is set in the old Indian society around 1947 when India was about to get it's independence. There were two categories of Indian- one who were against the Britishers and the other who were with the Britishers.
Charu who belongs to the former category, she came the lower caste and Dev belongs to the later category, he was the son of a Zamindar. Charu had seen the ill side of the society and she had revenges to be taken off while Dev was in the much comfortable position than her. He had enjoyed the privileges of the society.
Both the protagonists are different from each other and the character development of both the characters is well penned down by the author. The narration is good. The book is is a mixture of romance, historical fiction and political aspect of the old India. There are numerous characters in the book yet each one is given enough scope to contribute to the plot. The emotions are well penned down by the author. The language used is lucid. The words selection is easy and simple making it a good read for all.

Loved this story set in 1947 India!
Charu is from a small tribe in Bengal. Though well educated, she’s treated like a child by her family. A chance encounter with the two Red Coats when they try to rape her, puts her whole village in danger. So much so, that even her brother and sister are killed in a vengeful rampage by the British soldiers.
Dev is the zamindar’s son who leads a cushy and frivolous life. Extremely handsome, he seems as attracted to Charu as she is to him. How could she like someone who doesn’t give a damn for his country? Charu is flummoxed.
Then there was the hooded man who is not just attractive, but has also earned Charu’s respect. After all, he’s a rebel who’s been leading her tribe to fight against the British.
But Charu has to face a lot of danger before she finds love; presuming she survives the danger that surrounds her.
Rubina Ramesh’s latest book begins with a bang, drawing the reader deep into the story right from the first page. I finished the book in one sitting, completely absorbed with the scenes and dialogue. The research has been done extremely well as the author brings the background of the independence movement alive.
I even managed to chew off a few of my nails wondering if Charu will survive, let alone find happiness.
A must read if you enjoy romances, especially with a fearless heroine—the kind I do.

This is a story set up in the era of chaos.

The 1940s, when India was overcoming all the challenges to get it's Independence.

Well to be precise we will watch this narrative via Charu's and Dev's eye's.

Charu, being born in an revolutionary family, is very strong, smart, beautiful and innocent. She was always treated like a child by her family.

Her innocence comes in jeopardy when two British soldiers try to get under her clothes and if it wasn't for that masked saviour of her's, something really very wrong could've had happened with her.

Her family suffers many losses due to violance and with vengeance, she becomes a part of this revolution herself.

Her meeting with Dev, the Zamindar's son, is also very sensational. She went to his house with an hidden agenda, and he was all set to unveil his scars to someone who genuinely cares.

They were totally different, in all aspects, in all ways, and yet they both find each other falling in love with each other.

A dangerous affair it is indeed.

The title has been beautifully justified.

Also you got to look out for
--> Will Charu succeed in her mission ?

--> Who was the masked saviour of her's ?

--> Will Dev be able to save her ?

It's one very interesting, nail biting story, and also with a touch of erotica. And will bind its readers until the very last page is flipped.

The story is set up around the independence era which involves serious and dramatic issues, wrongdoings and revenge, romance, characters with depth and flaws, and a multi-layered plot and suspense that weaved together a strong back story that led into the conflicts and struggles of the characters. The story flowed very well. Charu and dev's character, personalities and their circumstances were totally opposite but that didn't stop them from falling for each other. The writing felt more descriptive, personalized, and emotionally charged than some of the basic generic and cliché style that is found in some of the books.

It would have been easy to make this a predictable story of revenge with all of the expected scenes and usual outcomes. However, the story was delivered at a high level - a well- layered and executed plot that unfolded in a tension-filled manner. It reflected serious issues and ideas that made the story stronger. I love the writing style adapted by the author and that this book covers lot of extensive topics, when I picked this book, I thought it was going to be just about a clichéd love story but the book covers more than that.

A Dangerous Affair By Rubina Ramesh

This beautiful book is about a fabulous strong, determined women Charu. The story took place before independence. It showcased those true protesting period. I find the complete storyline impressive.

Charu comes from a conservative small tribe. Even though she is so much loved, she wants her to be on her own. She has the strong spirit for freedom. But soon, she goes through a hard time. This is where, Dev the son of Zamindar clashes her path. He is drawn to her. Will she accept him ?. Apart from this Charu faces immense changes and has twist n turns in her life.

This book is quite interesting. My most favourite part of the book is the storyline and the personality of the protogonist. It was a good read.

“The very essence of romance is uncertainty”. The expression uncertainty used here has all sorts of poignant usages in the literary work as the same re occurs majority of the times. As one can gather from the title of the book itself, the storyline here is set during a period which can be surmised as a period at the brink of independence of the country, and upon the bare perusal of the book the central characters remain Charu who belongs to the lower strata of the society i.e Santhal tribe and Dev who happens to be the son of a Zamindar, as one may surmise the prevailing contrasts between the characters as upon brief delineation, the former happens to be someone trained in adversities and is willing to avenge all the wrongdoings that have occurred with her family whereas the latter one is a privileged one and someone who has got certain secrets up his sleeve
All in all, the infusion of romance with a pinch of contrasts in characters and in addition to the same infusing uncertainties which extend to endangering someone’s life makes it a must read for everyone.

The story goes back to the days before Independence when a young girl Charu was saved from red coats by an unknown stranger, but later finds her siblings murdered by them to seek revenge. And her journey starts to take revenge on those responsible.

It's a cute, dainty romantic books There are parts that will just make you go mushy and provides very tingling sensation. Loved the character of Charu and Dev, their bickering. You can predict who the Leader is. And the ending is quite unexpected. When I finished the book I don't know why, I had a smile on my face.

Love and Revenge a tale to enjoy!

This is a romance that covers revenge, the concept of embracing your desires and the atrocities that British raj did over the indians. The book covers the characters graph and brings a thrill in the romance and expresses the woman's love on paper through some easy language and also establishes how love can have different themes but love is timeless.

As the title suggests, this is a romantic story set in British India. So this is quite different from your regular love stories, along with love its filled with bravery, highlighting british and zamindari atrocities and strong characters. If you are looking for something different and new then this can be a good pick!
.
So this story revolves around Charu and Dev.Resisting and fighting for her dignity put Charu, a Santhal girl 's closed ones, her village to much danger. She decides to take revenge and sets herself on a dangerous mission. While Dev who is son of zamindar( who are britisher's side) is a good looking man and seems a bit different from his family but not much similar to the santhal, to Charu's family who could do anything for motherland.
To know
How they crossed each other's path in life?
How love blossomed?
Will Charu be able to accomplish her mission?
Do read this engaging book!
.
This book takes us to life of people during the times where everywhere was the zeal for independence.Along with a good and intriguing plot filled with twists and suspense it's the timeline which makes this book more engaging. Characters are well built and portrayed.Narration and pace is also very good.Writing style is impressive. The title and cover also goes well with the storyline.

A Dangerous Affair

Author- Rubina Ramesh
Genre- Historical Romance
Rating- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The story set in 1940s , this is right around the time India was about to get its independence and folks pro British were using all means to stopping that from happening where as revolutionary activity was at itself peak.

This is the story of a young protected girl Charu who belonged to a small hamlet in Bengal. Belonging to a family who were all involved in revolutionary activities. When this strong, smart and beautiful girl had two British soldiers attempted to rape her, she was saved by a mysterious man.

The violence that was a consequence of the deaths pf those soldiers turned Charu’s life upside down. With both her elder siblings dead, she was forced to join the revolutionary activities and harboring revenge in her heart for the Captain Butler.

She was sent on a mission to the Zamindar’s house who was a pro-British himself. To secure the address of this Captain. Here she can’t help but fall for the mysterious Leader who had saved her modesty and also her life.

The burning love amidst all the danger and uncertainty gives this book a compelling quality.

Revenge & Revelry
Rubina writes in various genres of romance but I find sweet love being the paramount emotion of all her books. The love we all wish to experience. A Dangerous Affair is another book that will make you believe in love.

Charu and Dev and A Dangerous Affair of two people from the opposite sides of life and as different as can be. Or are they really?

A rich zamindar’s son, handsome, accomplished and charming with a few secrets up his sleeve.

A poor Santhal tribal girl, beautiful, talented and educated with a fire inside her to avenge the wrongdoings faced by her family.

Set in the days just before the partition, A Dangerous Affair unfolds as the situation is explosive and both Charu and Dev have their own agendas to work on. Yet the two meet and sparks fly.

Both are enamoured but then who is the secret admirer for Charu who is landing up in the oddest of places to save Charu. Even Dev is unable to ravel this mystery.

What I liked was the mystery that Rubina maintained till the end. The Redcoats, the mercenary zamindar, the conniving munshi and how each of them has an axe to grind before India gets its independence.

A Dangerous Affair transports us to the time when love for our Motherland was above and beyond the bounds of life and no sacrifice was too small.

The danger is ever-present and the tension palpable but it is the sweet, kind, generous Malathi; the mother who sees the deceit but is helpless to challenge it but supports the struggle along with the unlikely Modon who find a spot in my heart.

Simple, small sacrifices add up to the big picture; Modon is the perfect example that each one of us matters whatever we do.

Time is a premium and reading has been relegated to a corner especially since the kid had his exam just around the corner. This is a book I read nonstop! I rarely do that due to that post-Covid era.

I beta-read A Dangerous Affair for Rubina and I knew this was a winner.

An accomplished author of books in various genres, I found Rubina has poured her heart into the story.

The characters, setting, the suspense, the clandestine meetings, the secret romance and secret admirer, passion and power—all mingle within A Dangerous Affair.

The emotions run high, suspense is maintained, the sweetness comes through the innocent love, the motherly love, and the determination to avenge the loss of a family for a mother.

The driving force of the story is the brutal massacre by the Red Coats yet it is the binding factor for the beautiful, passionate love story.

The era when freedom was just within our grasp makes this a story that will inspire you, enflame you and evoke your patriotic fervour.

A Dangerous Affair is a heady mix of lies and love; family and nation culminating in freedom, revenge, and revelry. A must-read!

Love for the Nation vs Romance

My Ratings: 4.5/5
Set in 1947, this is the story of Charu, a 20-year-old who has just lost her siblings in the freedom struggle. To avenge their deaths, she manages to employ herself as a scribe to the local Zamindar (landlord) who was responsible for the deaths of her siblings and many of her villagers. Here, she faces the Zamindar's son, Dev, who interferes with her plans in every way possible. Though agitated by his flirting and doubting, she feels a strange familiarity with Dev. Will she be successful in her plans?
What I liked about the book:
-> The story begins with a bang, drawing us in right away. The scene also makes us question how the plight of women has been the same across generations.
-> Charu's character and how she turns from a beautiful, protected, young girl to a rebellious and passionate woman with a purpose.
-> The story takes us to a time when patriotism was running high and the feeling to die for the motherland was at its peak, thus leaving us questioning our beliefs and lifestyle in 2021, at many points.
->  The conversation between the characters that has dialects from Bengali, has been beautifully expressed and makes the story as well as the setting and plot, very authentic.

What I did not like about the book:
-> The big reveal that comes right before the climax was kind of predictable for me (but this could be just a 'me' thing because I have read so many romantic thrillers to gauge what's coming next)

Quotable quotes:
-> Love is not about forcing your view on your other half. It's about letting go. It's about smiling at their success or giving a hand to pick up the pieces when needed.
-> It is useful to know what the enemies are thinking.
-> One could fight the perpetrators but when the enemy resided inside your own house, it was like fighting a losing battle.
-> Revenge, especially for your loved ones, is a very powerful motivator.

The storyline dates back to the year of Indian Independence. All the Indian citizens today study history as a whole analysing its materialistic impacts though there were many many tragic tales of so many commoners that we can anyhow not give any significance on a higher level still this book has highlighted one such story of Charu.
Charu's story revealed the kind of misery that many people might have suffered from at that time, of losing someone beloved. However, she, out-heeding any other factors blames the town's zamindar (landlord) for the death of her cousins in the struggle. She eventually seeks revenge from the landlord and is prepared for it but to her opposition is Dev, the landlord's son, who serves as a constant obstacle towards Charu's revenge.
Both of them forward a story that was not to be the one as expected by the readers.
The turn of events is rather neither too fast nor too slow yet the narration flows smoothly relating to the plot perfectly.
I liked the idea of whole story and would love to read more from the author!

Historical fiction + Romance

Another masterpiece by author Rubina Ramesh! The first book I read by Rubina Ramesh was a fantasy novel and I totally loved it. This one is a historical fiction of romance genre and was a great read for me. This proves the versatility of the author beyond doubt.
Charu is an ordinary tribal girl from a village of Bengal before the Indian Independence. The end of her innocence is marked by the ruthless slaughter of her siblings and villagers by the British soldiers. Blaming herself for the irreparable loss, Charu takes up the role of a revolutionary. Will she be able to save her motherland along with The Leader or will both of them perish like the innumerable freedom fighters who served our motherland? The book is a gripping tale of 211 pages. The narration is lucid and the use of occasional bengali words and phrases has given it a traditional touch. There is some amount of steamy romance in the book hence it is suitable for sixteen years and above. I recommend this book to everyone who loves historical fiction and romantic novels.

The year is 1947 and the Indians are all set to free their motherland from the Red coats. This is the story of Charu, a 20years old girl from a village in West Bengal whose family are famous for their revolutionary acts.
In the beginning of the story, two Red coats are trying to molest Charu when by God's grace she is saved my a mysterious man. But on the same night both of her siblings are killed.

To avenge their deaths and also the death of many people of her village, Charu gets herself employed at the house of the Zamindar who was responsible.
Here she meets Dev. The handsome mysterious man who saved her that horrific night. Also the son of Zamindar.

The spark between Charu and Dev can be felt from their first interaction. The forbidden love angle makes the story more thrilling and captivating. Also the strength and dedication of Charu was truly empowering.
I really enjoyed this historical fiction. Recommended to all romance lovers!

The book "A Dangerous Affair" is a romantic story which revolves around Charu and Dev.

Both belonged to a different caste.Charu was from the lower class of the santhal tribe in bengal on the other hand Dev was the son of a zamindar.Dev was in a much comfort condition than her.He looked too handsome and attractive🤭Charu had a fire within her to avenge the wrongdoings faced by her family. She was on a revenge mission towards the redcoats who hurt her family and her dignity. She was sent for the mission to the zamindar's house. But there she couldn't help but fell in love. What happened next❓Will Charu be able to accomplish the mission❓

This story takes us to a time when patriotism and the feeling to die for the motherland was really running high. The love for the motherland is beyond everything❤️Both the characters are different from one another.Beautifully penned. The language is simple and lucid.Writing style is impressive. The tittle is apt for the story.I loved the cover, its so attractive😍Overall, its a good read.

A very intriguing book

I have tried this historical genre after a gap but I could still feel the same connectivity throughout the read. The story went smooth and the narration is right on point emphasizing the right emotions at particular times. I would surely suggest this book to others as well. The story revolves around the main protagonist of the story, Charu- a brave and beautiful girl from a reserved and revolutionary family. Her life turns upside down when 2 soldiers attempt to molest her and they are killed. This raises acts of violence and then she had to take a brave step to seek revenge for the death of her 2 elder siblings. Read the book to know who Charu falls for, a mystery man, and what destiny holds for her.
