Two Truths and a Lie

Rate this book

Same Tristan. Different game.

Tristan Wells is annoying, overconfident, and definitely not the type of guy that Heather Foren usually hangs out with—so why is she agreeing to be his fill-in friend?

The first truth? Because he’s Tristan. The second truth? Because she really doesn’t want him to keep pestering her about it.

So until Josh comes around and decides that he’s not mad at Tristan anymore, Heather is stuck keeping Tristan in line while putting up with his player ways…which is anything but an easy task.

Could it turn out that Tristan isn’t so bad though? Or is that just a lie he wants her to believe?

A cute and fun contemporary romance!

There was so much about this book I enjoyed!

The romance was sweet, the humor funny, the characters likeable, and the content clean other than a few cut off curse words and mentions of cursing.

I loved Tristan in Truth or Dare, so I was excited afterward when I found out there was a book for him.
Well, excited and a little disappointed, I admit. In Truth or Dare, I really, really liked the idea of Tristan and Maddie together. I wasn't sure of him being with Heather until I started reading this book. Now I can't imagine them with anyone else.

I liked Heather. She was a great character and the best match for Tristan. I loved her serious personality paired with his more playful one. How their relationship grew from fill-in-friend to friends to loves was fun to read, and when they finally confessed their feelings to each other, it was perfect! Gave me all the feels!

I also liked that this book took place in the two week gap that happened near the end of Truth Or Dare. It really filled everything out and made the story feel complete.

I recommend it to anyone who enjoys clean and fun contemporary romances!

Reader’s Notes:

– It is recommended by the author that you read Truth or Dare first (and having made the mistake of beginning with this one, I think she’s right 🙀)

– There is one use of each of these: ‘bull’, ‘bullcrap’, and a ‘middle finger emoji’ (not the actual emoji on page, just the words)

– We hear the story from both Heather and Tristan’s points of view

Review:

I took off a star due to my own mistake of reading this as a stand alone book. I noticed the author’s message in the description, but chose to ignore it because this is what I had and I wanted to read it. 🙈 (I may come back and adjust after reading Truth or Dare.)

Why is it not good as a stand alone? Because the events of Truth or Dare set up the beginning problem of the story. In Truth or Dare, something happens to make Josh (Heather’s cousin and Tristan’s best friend) angry and refuse to talk with Tristan. (Tristan appears to have been in the middle of majority of the events that went down in Truth of Dare. We kinda figure out what happened to make Josh angry in Two Truths and a Lie, but there still seemed to be some holes to the explanation.) So (in Two Truths and a Lie) Tristan decides to convince Heather to be his stand-in friend. She agrees, in order to keep him from annoying her more. Though of course he still ends up annoying her. Until something changes and she no longer sees him as annoying. And he no longer sees her only as his stand-in friend.

I really liked Heather, she had a ton of sassy comebacks for whatever Tristan threw at her. And I loved her nicknames for Tristan!

Tristan was the player turned person in love. I didn’t fully like him in the beginning with his cocky attitude, but he changed a bit when he began to really like Heather. And just that bit made me love him 💞.

3.5, but leaning more towards a 4.

This was a very cute, very short read that I got to read for free after signing up for the author's newsletter.

It might've helped had I read the novel this was a side story of, but honestly the fact I could read and understand the entire story without doing so was a testament to how well it was written and the author's talent. I didn't even realize it spun off from a full novel until about halfway through when I started to feel like the mentions of Josh (the female MC's cousin) and Tristan's issues were more than just backstory.

This story was very cute. The dialogue might have sometimes felt a little corny or overly-forced "teen speak," but after the first couple of chapters it toned down and flowed into a more natural rhythm.

I actually really liked Heather and Tristan. Together, they were pretty cute.

It was a decent read and perhaps I would like it more had I read the novel, but it read well enough on its own.

Tristan’s best friend is not on speaking terms with him so he recruits Heather Foren to be his fill in friend until Josh decides to speak to him again. If you want to know the details about what going on between Josh and Tristan go check out the story “Truth Or Dare”. I love Tristan he is a hoot and Heather is quite interesting herself. This is a quick Novella. A great read.
