No amount of snow and ice can melt this attraction…
Special ops captain Penn Sullivan is no stranger to extreme conditions, but chasing an elusive drug trafficker through the Alaskan wilderness proves a challenge. His beautiful and bossy bush guide claims to know the land better than any high-tech GPS system the military offers and has Penn alternately grinding his teeth with frustration…and from a heavy dose of lust for the bold woman with too much allure for her own good.
First the bush plane belonging to Cora’s daddy is hijacked. Then it goes down in the remote area locals call No Man’s Land. Now a special ops unit with more gadgets and muscles than brains or skills to last in the elements is on a man hunt—and she’s determined to help. But it doesn’t take long before she finds that a big, strong tough-guy like Penn really does know how to keep a woman warm on a frigid mountainside.
Penn never thought he’d struggle to keep his hands off a woman dressed like an abominable snow-woman, and after Cora finds him looking back at her in the same way, it feels like striking gold. When their search goes sideways, one of them must make a sacrifice. Cora is no stranger to taking risks, but no way will Penn let the woman go down without fighting like hell for her.
I liked it. They are a special team for Homeland Security in Alaska, Penn is in charge and he meets the heroine pilot. She is also an intrepid explorer of the Alaskan back country. Her client causes the plane to go down and she is rescued by Penn. She leads them through the frozen tundra in search of the Russian drug dealer and his thugs. They fall in lust and have relations in the frozen wilderness and it just didn't seem believable. But who am I to say that. It could happen. There are chases, crashes, avalanches and explosions but they stick by each other through it all. There are a lot of sex scenes and they were a little too detailed for me so I skimmed them but they did seem to have some fire for sure. I got a little bored during the book but I did finish it and I like the authors writing style for the most part. Some of it was a little over the top but I don't read romance for the realism, just the fantasy. It was good. I will read this author again too. Free in KU.
There was a lot about this one that should have made me like it, set in Alaska, spunky woman, hero that seemed to do his own thing, yet it didn't work for me. I liked Cora, thought she did go with what happened on the plane and afterwards going toe to toe with Penn to help them and give her mind ease of getting the bad guy. For some reason Penn rubbed me wrong from the start and it seemed like nothing he did was going to be good for me, which made it really hard for me to keep reading. In the end this one just wasn't for me.
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐1\2 Trope: enemies to lovers Angst: 😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥
I really enjoyed this story! Tons of thrilling action from beginning to end. The heroine was kick butt and saved herself, lol, which I always enjoy. The hero didn't know what hit him. This was my first Em Petrova book, but I'll definitely be reading more!
4.5 Stars to the captivating kick-off book of the Xtreme Ops series. Captain Penn Sullivan gets a second chance to redeem his career. To be successful, he has to lead his newly assigned men through the Alaskan terrain and elements to capture a dangerous Russian Drug Lord. It turns out, that’s the easy part of his operation. Meeting, protecting, and and keeping himself from falling for the beautiful and intelligent Alaskan native, Cora, is his real challenge. Cora’s character portrays one of the strongest book heroine. It’s both her determination and softer sides that challenges Penn’s heart. Vivid descriptions of Alaska puts you into the center of the action of this action-packed suspense romance. The author doesn’t hold back her bedroom (tent) descriptions either. The unexpected last couple of chapters took the storyline to the next level. I am excited to continue this engaging series.
But at least now I have one less series to read. In short, if you want a story with some heartfelt meaning behind it, this ain't it. If you don't care about the quality of the story and are fine with lots of gratuitous sex that suddenly equates love, then by all means, you should love this trash book just fine. Because in my opinion, it's definitely trash. That may be some readers' cup of tea, but it certainly isn't mine. If you want more detail to my distaste for this book, then read on.
RANT ALERT!
The Good - Um. The first couple of chapters, maybe? They managed to snag my attention and get me interested enough in the story to continue. The pacing is decent, and it was a fast and easy read. There are also some funny character interactions too. Until it all went downhill.
The Bad - The story itself is painfully generic. Bad guy highjacks and causes a plane to crash in Alaska, then goes on the run. Specialized operatives are called to hunt him down, reluctantly utilizing the help of one of the plane's pilots to guide them. Things happen to make the journey harder, characters have some growth, and then it ends. Literally, if feels like the story's only purpose was to serve as filler between all the wildly tacky and awkward sex scenes, and to introduce us to the people who will populate future entries.
The Ugly - (1) Terribly unlikable, sex-obsessed characters, (2) stupid dialogue, and (3) nonsensical plot details.
(1) Penn is the hero and he’s growly and possessive (shocker, right?), and generally a pushover because his little head keeps doing all the work. Seriously, his off-putting, teenage horniness for Cora was rather irritating as it CONSTANTLY affected his better judgment as the team's Captain. Too often the dude just legit FORGETS what they're even out there for, simply because he can't stop thinking about making kissy face and getting it on with Cora. And then eventually they DO get it on. In a tent with the other men RIGHT OUTSIDE. *facepalm*
But Cora, the heroine, is even worse. She was decent at first, strong-willed and confident in her skills as a bush pilot and guide, but then she gradually descended into this squealing, bratty thing, spouting off narrative crap like how she "didn't need a man to take care of her" and that she "could take care of herself," yet for the majority of the story, she couldn't handle anything EXCEPT by the men's help. She needed and relied on them like fish do water. She was a whiny hypocrite and had some of the most ridiculous dialogue, I kid you not. That leads to my last item:
(2) Stupid dialogue was stupid, and most of it uttered by Cora, be it narratively or socially. For example, Cora asks Penn, "If he had raped me, what would you have done to him?" Like, WHAT? Who even asks that? But it's okay, since it creates this seemingly "perfect" response by Penn when he says: "I would bring him back from the dead to kill him with my bare hands." Ooh, perfect tough guy response to prove his toughness. Why, it's almost as effective as the heroes who claim they'd crawl on their hands and knees or throw themselves in front of a bullet or move heaven and Earth to protect the woman they love. Allow me to roll my eyes.
(3) As if the excessive sloppy sex wasn't bad enough, I also had to deal with moments in the story that were seemingly arranged just to keep things suspenseful (I use that word very lightly). For example, the team wounds and tracks one of the bad guys (bad guys pop up like daisies in this book). They see animal prints and the blood trail, opting to of course follow blood trail, despite not seeing the guy's footprints along with the trail. But why WOULDN'T there be footprints? The guy's not just floating around bleeding, is he? One of the characters claims it's because of freshly fallen snow that there are no prints. Yet even if that WAS the case, how did they see the blood trail then? You can’t have it both ways. Stuff like that just IRKS me.
That's enough complaints out of me. All in all, this was just not a good book in the slightest, not to me, and I've promptly given up on the rest of the series as well as this author. Jumping ship.

Hitting Extremes is the first book in the Extreme Ops series. Penn Sullivan was kicked off of the Texas Rangers about 5 years ago and has been working as a solo operative without a team ever since. When Homeland Security approached him to lead a brand new team in the most extreme environment, Alaska, he couldn't resist taking on the assignment. His people and team leading skills were rusty, but he would figure it out as he went along. Within minutes of meeting his team for the first time, they are called out to deal with a situation involving a hi-jacked bush plane and a well known Russian crime figure. Team bonding would have to be done on the fly.
At the site of the plane crash, Extreme Ops meets Cora Hutton- a beautiful, no nonsense bush pilot who, along with her father, was involved in the crash. Once the Search and Rescue Team extracted her father, Cora was determined to be a guide for the men of Extreme Ops, assisting them in tracking down the man who drastically altered her life during the course of a single flight. Tough as nails, an expert in her environment and in survival skills, Cora's knowledge of the Alaskan terrain proves invaluable to the entire team, even saving their lives. Through the course of tracking their target, Cora and Penn find themselves attracted to one another. Can their jobs and the harsh environment in which they both live allow for a relationship to be built? Or will their feeling be fleeting, never having the opportunity to be built upon?
There are truly no words to adequately describe how much I LOVED this book!!! I have been reading author Em Petrova's books for about 5 years now. I have read every single one and I have enjoyed so many of them. This one though was love at first chapter! She masters at using vivid imagery to draw the reader in, creating a world that is simple to conjure in the mind and where one finds themself longing to go, too. I love that her new Special Ops series is based in Alaska. A wild and rugged frontier to match the the rugged character leads and their love interests. Fabulous character development, engrossing plot, intensely sizzling chemistry.... this is a book that absolutely MUST be read!
I am already looking forward to reading every one of the book in this series. I hope that the author chooses to write at least a 6 book series to rival the Knight Ops Series. This author has squarely found her place in the Romantic Suspense genre, I hope that her readers enjoy this book as much as I did!
Em Petrova has kicked off the ‘Xtreme Ops’ series with “Hitting Xtremes” … and I thought it was terrific! Penn Sullivan, Captain of the new Special OPS team assigned to Alaska, is the brother of Nash Sullivan, who was the lead in the first book of the Ranger Ops series. (Nash’s book is “At Close Range” in case you missed it and would like to check out that great series).
Penn is smart and tough as nails, devoted to his country and any challenge with which he is presented. He has long accepted the fact that the type of work he does allows no room for personal relationships. When Homeland Security makes him Captain of a new Alaska-based team that has been created, he is beyond psyched for the opportunity and the dangers of missions that will come the way of him and his team. His very first mission with his new unit involves Cora Hutton, a skilled, beautiful woman who is also an experienced wilderness tracker. Cora was unwittingly caught up in plane crash and foreign criminal intrigue that Penn and his team are tasked with resolving. Penn’s world is rocked by her impressive skill set and by the chemistry that ignites between them.
I don’t want to say too much about the plot because I thought it was really exciting and best left to unfold as you read it. There are some twists and turns that kept me swiping pages on my Kindle into the early morning hours because I had to finish the story. This book has tears and smiles, exhilaration and frustration, hot heroes and evil villains, a fierce heroine and blazing hot passion, all set amidst wondrous descriptions of frozen landscapes. I am already looking forward to every book in this series!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I also ordered a copy.
The first couple of chapters was a good read but then it turned into a story about a trained leader that could not do his job because of his desires to constantly make out with a woman. At first she was a tough, competent guide then she turned into a nympho crawling this man every few minutes. Either write a good strong special forces book or write a good romantic novel but don’t take two strong individuals and turn them into sex maniacs with 5 other men on a mission to capture a dangerous group of men while these 2 can’t keep their hands off of each other. I couldn’t read the entire book. I am an avid reader and read across the genres. But final gave up after I realized this wasn’t portraying special ops or women in a true light.
Penn is finally given the chance to lead a team again. He and his team are hunting a drug trafficker in Alaska. The search leads them to Cora whose bush plane was hijacked and went down in a remote area called No Man’s Land. Cora talks her way into joining the search.
The opening of the story was good. I’ve read stories about people dying on that swim Penn did in Thailand. I was captivated by the first few chapters.
The shine and intrigue began to dull when Em Petrova connected Cora and Penn. I think Petrova was trying to make Cora seem capable, but in many instances Penn and OFFAT came off as incompetent.
The story then took on an unbelievable quality and some of the unbelievability took away from the mystery. Which is why I read this. I am a mystery junkie.
It was fun and exciting. It was so much back to back trauma though I kinda felt like a yo yo. Aaaaand I hated the ending. Lol. But still four stars. Fairly good read.
There is a lot of good writing in this story and then there is some not so good writing.
Cora and her father were flying a sketchy man to a location in Alaska. He then demanded they fly him to new coordinates which meant they would be heading into a dangerous storm. Both Cora and her father were injured trying to overpower the man. The plane crashed, injuring Cora's father but Cora was ok. Bad guy escaped.
Newly formed Ops team, lead by Penn was informed that a plane had crashed with one of their most wanted men on board. They headed to the site, and search and rescue took Cora's father for emergency surgery, Cora made the case that she would be their best chance at finding bad guy as she knew the land better than any map. They took her.
One bad guy continued to avoid an experienced guide and a team of trained Ops - although they managed to bring down some other bad guys whilst looking for main bad guy. When Cora gets some bad news, Penn comforts her. It's not long before they become intimate. A trained captain, on a mission....anyway.
They discover main bad guy has been rescued and they head out to make new plans.
Leaving Cora in hotel, the Ops team go to investigate ship in harbour that's meant to have bad guy or soon will have bad guy.
Whilst in hotel, Cora overhears bad guys connected to main bad guy discussing their worries and their plans - in a public corridor - in full sight of Cora. I detest in when authors make bad guys unbelievably dumb in order for a good guy to be a hero. Cora overhears that they need a pilot so she put her hand up. When heading to plane, she overhears in the car that the boat will soon be at the bottom of the ocean. Luckily they revealed their evil plot in English and not their first language (insert eye roll here) so she is aware that the boat is about to explode.
By starting to get out of the car, she has revealed herself to the Ops team. They then know not to get on the boat. They also then know that she must have overheard something about the boat and that's the reason she got out of the car for a second in order to warn them. Isn't it brilliant that they all know exactly what is going on.
Cora then does some outstanding flying and heavy landing which leaves everyone but herself injured. Ops team comes and all bad guys die.
Cora and Penn spend a final day together before saying goodbye.
We discover Cora has been doing Ops training in their time apart and finishes top of her class. She requests to get onto Penn's Op team.
They are all suprised and happy to welcome their newest team member.
Overall - I found the writing strong and descriptive. I typically liked the characters. I did roll my eyes a little at the relationship between Penn and Cora but I think the author pulled it off. I found some of the story a little incredulous but that's fiction for you. I would have preferred less obviously dumb bad guys but sometimes, it's the easiest and fastest way for something to be resolved. I just found that it cheapened the story a little.

This is the first book in the Xtreme Ops series. Em Petrova has other Ops series, Knights Ops and Ranger Ops. These guys are the best of the best in their jobs and have been formed to take care of special ops in the US. Xtreme Ops is no different. These guys take risks to get the job done to protect the US. Penn isn’t in law enforcement anymore, the Texas Rangers gave him the boot for not following protocol, but Homeland Security wants him to lead a team in the Pacific Northwest. They want a team that can handle the rugged terrain and Penn’s perfect for this job. Penn’s brother Nash is part of the Ranger Ops group. I loved this book and can’t wait for the next one. It grabbed my attention from the get-go and held on tight. It has suspense, romance, steam and plenty of action. It’s no secret that I love Em Petrova’s books. There aren’t many I haven’t read, and the Ops series of book have been my favorite. I’m a sucker for a good military/lawman romantic suspense story. I was very happy to see she was doing another Ops group. You don’t have to read the other Ops series of books to enjoy this book. You can jump right in and enjoy this one. If you love this one though I recommend grabbing the Knights Ops and Rangers Ops series. Every book is an entertaining read from beginning to end.
Penn gets called in to search for the man who hijacked the plane Cora and her dad was flying. The Russian contract killer/drug trafficker, aka a really bad dude, crash landed the plane and Penn’s ops team is sent in to hunt him down. Cora’s convinced that she needs to help and is bound and determined to be a part of the search. She believes her Alaskan knowledge beats out all the Xtreme Ops guys fancy gadgetry. Penn and Cora soon find that they can’t keep their hands off each other no matter how much they frustrate each other but this is also Penn’s second chance at a career, and he doesn’t want to mess that up either. The danger picks up the longer they’re out searching. Can Penn sort out his feelings for Cora with the ideas that he has in head that you can’t have a wife/girlfriend and do his job? Obviously, the Knights Ops and Ranger Ops guys have all found a way to make it work, can Penn?

I loved it!! Hitting Xtremes is comprised of a whole new ops team with suspenseful and dangerous missions, and completely different scenery. Beautiful, unforgiving Alaska where man HAS to respect the elements, or the odds are good man will perish. Penn was a lone wolf personality and had been relieved of duty quite some time ago, but he never gave up his regimen of keeping fit physically and mentally. This out of the blue plum assignment is right in his favorite area, the Northwestern Territory. He gets five men to assimilate and to make an unbreakable bond with these creme de la creme, op ready, fighting machines. Okay ... so the bonding will have to be done actively since they'd barely arrived to be called out on their very first mission. Cora, an Alaskan to her core, has survived the plane crash carrying a man that gave her the willies, and tells Penn she HAS to go with them to guide them to their target. No one knows this area like her, AND she has a personal reason for going. Against his better judgement he begrudgingly agrees, and finds out quickly she is a huge asset. Why Penn and Cora have an attraction, all dressed up like abominable snow-people, is beyond either of them, but there it was, unwanted and all. They had to find their target(s) and really didn't have time for personal itches. The storyline kept me reading avidly through to the very end. There is a lot of action in here, keeping me at the edge of my seat through harrowing events, both with man, and nature. I felt their emotions and just thought this was a super read. A few hot scenes that didn't actually get in the way of the mission, but spiced it up a bit .... and a most surprising and fantastic HEA that had me doing the happy dancing of yessss! I've preordered this book and also received an advance reading copy through Booksprout. I am happily giving my honest thoughts and opinions without giving away too much. A recommended read from me. I honestly have to say this is the best book I've read in a while from this author. Looking forward to the next one already!!
Em Petrova definitely has no trouble exploding out of the gates when she starts a new series, and the Xtreme Ops is certainly appears to be no exception. Hitting Xtremes is the first story in this high octane, adrenaline packed, and intensely dangerous series set in the hazardous and perilously wilds of the majestic yet uninviting backdrop of Alaska.
Hitting Xtremes reintroduces a character readers of the Knight Ops and Ranger Ops series will be familiar with; Penn Sullivan. Penn has dealt with his fair share of ridicule and been shunned by the agency he thought he would devote his life to. So, deciding to go it alone, Penn never expected to be approach not only with a mission, but a team of his own to command and lead. But as with all Special Ops missions, this one does not go to plan and when Penn is faced with a sassy, take no prisoners, pocket-sized woman who is their only hope of completing their mission, he is unprepared for the intense and all-consuming attraction that muddies his usual precise and clear-thinking resolve. Cora is definitely not a woman to be underestimated, and when Penn indicates she will be left behind, Cora is determined to ensure her value to the team and satisfy her need for revenge.
Hitting Xtremes is a steady-paced, intense and steamy action-romance that is sure to reel readers in and leave them eager for more. While this story belongs to Penn and Cora, the cast of the OFFAT tea, is packed with an abundance of strong, capable and mysterious Alpha men to pique your interest in the books that will follow. I thoroughly enjoyed Hitting Xtremes and look forward to the next gripping adventure in the Alaskan wilderness.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Penn is a little lost after losing his job as a Texas Ranger. When an opportunity to head a team of agents in Alaska is offered to him, he jumps on the chance. LIttle does he know that he won't even get a chance to meet his new team before his new adventure really begins. Cora is an Alaska native that works with her father as a pilot. She gets drawn in to the case that Penn is working on and she steps right in to help out. Then love happens (duh).
This story is really about Penn and Cora with a side helping of the rest of the team, a little intrigue and some bad guys. If you are looking for sweeping literature with breathtaking descriptions of Alaska, this is not that book. If you want a fast paced story with good characters, good interactions between the characters and smart characters then you'll likely enjoy this. Also, the heroine is smart, strong and capable. All are pluses in my book!
I did have some issues with the story. For instance, the bad guys seemed to magically multiply. I kept expecting them to find cabins the bad guys were using to explain the sheer number of them. Also, I never really understood why there were bad guys in the middle of nowhere instead of in the port city or another city. Maybe I'm dense but it left me a little confused.
I would love to see more of Alaska in future installments because it's such an interesting place. I am also excited to see what type of relationships the rest of the team find in the future. I recommend this book to anyone that likes a contemporary love story with a little excitement and intrigue. I will definitely read the next book in the series (spoiler alert, it's about Harris....).

I just adore this author. For some reason this series got by me and I just am now starting to read it. This book didn't disappoint me either. The book was wonderful in telling not only Cora and Penn's story but laying the foundation for the new team of specials ops in Alaska.
This story is in a dual POV format. Seeing into each of the two main characters' thoughts, well that really helps me to connect to them so much better. I can fully understand them, their actions and conversations hopefully in the manner that the author intended.
Penn is picked to lead his own special ops team in his favorite state of Alaska. His brother, Nash, is a leader of the Texas branch and Penn was in Nash's story! After working solo, leading his own team comes with some challenges. Like just as Penn is arriving to meet with his team, they are immediately getting their first assignment. They are tasked with catching a deadly Russian before he can leave Alaska.
Cora is a bush pilot with her father. In their latest job, they are to fly a mean looking man out to a remote area and be back home before a storm hits. Well things aren't going so well when the man demands to be taken to another location instead. The hi-jacking doesn't go so well and the plane crashes.
Apparently the hi-jacker is one and the same as the man that ops team is going after. Cora refuses to go back with her father when they are rescued as she wants to see the evil man be brought to justice for her father's injuries. Cora and the team go through some really hair-raising adventures!
This is a spicy read so I would not recommend this to anyone under the age of 18. But if you adore the alpha male with an equally strong female, then you definitely want to read this!
A book I read in English so I wrote a review in both English and Dutch. Een boek wat ik in het Engels las, vandaar de recensie in zowel Engels als Nederlands.
In the first chapter you get sucked into this story with enough action on planes on both Penn and Cora her side.
It should be cold in Alaska, but the action and the sparks between Penn and Cora are making it a hot story. Penn is the captain of the special ops team and Cora is their guide and Alaska specialist by bad luck. She wants to take revenge at the man hijacking her fathers plane. Cora is a strong woman and Penn a dominant man. Together they make a story full of action which I could put down while reading.
Great read again by this writer.
I love, love, love when this author starts a new series! This one is similar to the Knight Ops and Ranger Ops series, with our starring hero, Penn, who is the brother of the Ranger Ops leader, Nash.
We met Penn in the Ranger Ops series, so I was thrilled to see him find his home and his heart in his own book. His new team hits the ground running, being called out to track a terrorist who hijacked and forced the crash landing of a small plane in the middle of Alaska's wilderness. Arriving on scene, they meet Cora, who survived the crash and is their best chance at both finding the fugitive without getting lost in the elements.
I love meeting the new crew, all six deliciously brave and skilled heroes, and I was on the edge of my seat following their adventure in the harsh climate. Penn proves to be a capable leader, and his connection with Cora is equal parts sweet, tender boyfriend and fierce, protective lover. Their romance brought out a future for Cora that she'd never thought possible, and I really respected the intense personal journey laid out for her in this story.
The "how to work this out once the crisis is over" obstacle was brilliantly mitigated, filling needs for both Penn and Cora and proving our heroines are every bit as heroic as their men.
Every page was intense and captivating, and I couldn't love it more. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was a good start to the Xtreme Ops series. Penn and Cora make a great couple. I liked how strong, independent, skilled, smart and competent that she was portrayed in this book.
Penn was a strong alpha type who was secure enough to embrace Cora's strength. There was plenty of romance and several sexy scenes throughout the book. The book provides a brief introduction to the other Xtreme Ops team members. I liked the camaraderie of Penn's team as they got to know one another. I also liked the way they embraced Cora, her skillset, and were not dismissive about it.
There was the age old instalust-->installed which I was not upset about. I was upset about the fact that it was to flippin' cold to be in/on/whatever the Alaskan Tundra to be naked or half naked with ANYBODY. I was thinking Penn must be something else for Cora to turn her girly parts into popsicles.
I thought their was a fair amount of action, adventure, and suspense as they made the trek through the wilderness of Alaska. I did have to do a bit of a reread when it came to the brothers and the showdown. I got kind of confused.
Penn and Cora ultimately got their HEA. I am looking forward to reading about the other team members.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advance Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.
The first book of a new series, this explodes from your kindle with a fast action, high impact, life and death plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, then add in the steamy, sexy fireworks between Cora and Penn and you will quickly be addicted. Penn has no idea what to do with Cora, she is not intimidated by his death stare and goes toe to toe with him to argue her point, the only way to shut her up is to kiss her...but damn! She fries his brain cells! Seeing Penn brought to his knees by the sassy, strong, intelligent Cora and watching her lead his team across the frozen, dangerous wastelands of Alaska, whilst his brain melts out of his ears at the danger she is in, is very entertaining! His protective, Alpha wants her tucked up safe at home, as far away from danger as possible...but when she saves both him and his team time and again he has to acknowledge her place in the team...as much as it kills him to do so! Go Cora! Can Penn tame his Winter Angel or will she fly from him once the mission is complete? A fantastic start to the series, I am now totally invested and looking forward to book two in January, this is a gift on Kindle Unlimited....one you won't want to miss.
Penn Sullivan being picked to lead a group of operatives in Alaska to contain drugs, human trafficking, among other things especially from Russia. On his way there his plane goes down so he was late getting into base. He barely arrived when their first call to duty came in to a plane crash, the result of a man being on the 10 most wanted FBI list. He had not been spotted in years, but the witness description fit. When the team got there they found an unconscious man in the plane and tracks leading away. They followed the tracks and found a woman, Cora Hutton. Her father was in the plane, the hijacker had tried to kill him, and he did later pass from said injuries. Cora knowing the area much better than OFFAT became their guide in the Alaskan No Man's land to search for the fugitive in the blizzard. Penn and Cora was very attracted to each other. They managed to work very well together as they had great respect for the other one, but the sexual chemistry was always highly charged. This was a fast moving book with lots of action that will keep you on the edge of your chair.

This is book one of two of the Xtreme Ops series by Em Petrova. I have loved every one of her books that I have read, and this one was no exception.
Penn could not resist taking on a new assignment and team in Alaska. As a former member of the Texas Rangers, he loves to help make the world a better place. Before he has a chance to bond with his team or even get to know them, he is called out to handle a situation. It seems that a plane was ambushed by a well known crime member.
When he gets to the plane, he encounters Cora and her father. Cora is determined to help search for the man who was responsible. During the search, Cora becomes a valuable asset to Penn's team. She knows her survival skills and her knowledge comes in handy more than once.
During this excursion, Penn and Cora seem to have a strong connection. Will they find more than they bargained for on this journey, or is their connection due to their situation?

I have loved Ms. Petrova's Knight Ops and Ranger Ops so much that I was excited for this series to begin. Penn Sullivan is offered an opportunity to run his own special ops team in Alaska and jumps on it. First mission begins within an hour or two after they all meet for the first time. Cora Hutton and her father own a transport business and have a customer to fly another town. Penn and Cora meet after Cora and her father crashed. He is a hard nosed leader with no interest in the victims other then what she can tell them. They butt heads but she is able to garner a friendship with Penn's team. She is smart, charismatic, quick on her feet, can survive in Alaska and knows the land while they don't. They will fight the weather, the terrain and Russian drug smugglers. It is one wild trip against the elements, with team bonding and the beginning of a romance. This is gonna be another winning Ops team series. There was a very quick introduction to the characters of the Xtreme Ops team that you will no doubt become far better acquainted with. The characters and the plot was magnificent and the details regarding the Alaskan mountainside was that good at times I actually felt that I had frost bite im ny toes, there was lots of action and a certain amount of adventure that you will thoroughly. I am sure that like me you will become totally engrossed in the story and will like me anxiously await the second book in this series. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series!
I found Penn to be very interesting. I liked the way the author let us readers get to know him and what he's thinking. He goes from being a one-man show to leading a new team. I liked his inner dialog when he is trying to get to know his new team. I also liked that he knew he was the leader but trusted his team to have his back.
Cora was a little more hit and miss for me. There were so many qualities about her that I loved. I loved that she didn't back down and that she knew her stuff. I loved that she stood her ground while out in the field because of her knowledge of the area.
I part I didn't like was that I get she wanted to see this through for a very serious reason. Her stubbornness in some ways got in the way of common sense. This was an awful man they were hunting and these guys were trained. The whole end scene was very suspenseful but yet also very stupid on her part.
