The Great Endurance: My Journey. My Truth. My Life.

The Great Endurance is a powerful true story about an eight-year-old boy who is robbed of his virginity, his innocence, and the priceless treasure that protected it. He continues to search for the truth of who he is. Hope is needed to help him cope through the hardships that follows the abuse he faces. But, instead of hope, he is greeted with deep-despair, guilt, depression, anxiety, and fear on a daily basis until suicide behests the ending of his life. Unfortunately, family and friends cannot hear the silent cries of his heart, and unknowingly, he slowly begins to fade away. Who will save him from the thief who marked his territory and left behind seeds of torment and shame? The paths that he chooses along his journey leads to many dead-ends. Yet, no matter what he faces, he presses through it all with strength and integrity because he truly believes that everything will be alright.Having to fight off a sexual addiction can be compared to an attempt at overcoming any other hardcore addiction, i.e., drugs or alcohol. The struggles are realistic and the challenges of life become too overwhelming. Endurance is the key to survival. How will the young boy manage to make it through the disturbing-chaos that follows him into his adulthood? This book was not written to personally expose anyone. It was written to prove there are secrets and hidden truths that exists within all of us. What it takes to be victorious over our past and life’s circumstances lives within us all. We have what it takes to win! It is our personal perspectives of life itself that enables us to strive and successfully embrace the lasting benefits of The Great Endurance.

First let me start by saying, BRAVO to the Maurice L. Mitchell for finding the courage to unleash his mind’s burdens and share his truth of secrets. This is my first time reading his work and while I applaud his courageousness to be transparent and appreciated how he carefully and cautiously detailed his life’s traumatic journey without being vulgar.…I found his style of writing to be a bit drifty. There were times where his thoughts and reflections intertwined with experiences and took the tellings unnecessarily off track. And while this was a very lengthy reading, I was still left with more than a few unanswered questions.

With all said… “The Great Endurance” is definitely a necessary telling that will stick with you. We don’t often hear men openly sharing such traumatic experiences. I’m happy to read that Maurice has gain control of his life and I hope that we one day get to see his story play out on screen …Reaching and inspiring masses to courageously free themselves of their burdens. I rate this book 3.5.

It took me awhile to finish this book. I kept stopping & going to other books because I needed a break.
The author tells of the abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of a family friend. Right under the nose of his mom. That's usually the way it goes. His mom knew nothing because the predator was loving & sweet. Always teaching the kids something or watching them free of charge.
The memories are open & honest & must have been really hard to relive. I feel like he never stopped being abused almost for his whole life. Seems like he was always going through one thing or another. The healing didn't start until he actually told his family what happened to him, admitted some things to himself, then got serious about getting better.

This book was a lot to unpack. The story itself was a heartbreaking tragedy that was easily relatable, however I found the writing at times hard to keep straight. The constant switching back and fourth between events, conversations, and current day made the read somewhat difficult to follow. I think the author himself had a lot to unpack in this read, but when the book climaxed, meaning he finally got to his truth it was still more missing. Some important aspects were left out. I was really looking forward to all of it coming out, but some offenders were never mentioned. All in all it was a good read.

This book was interesting to say the least. The author experienced an enormous amount of trials and tribulations which, he was able to overcome with God's help. This is His truth and how he saw it. The author was very long winded. I believe he could've produced a better novel without a lot of the repetition. We would've had fewer pages but, it would've made reading the book more enjoyably. Overall it wasn't a bad read.

I am disappointed in this read! What started out as a journey of endurance it began to be a bumble jumble of reiterating scenes of the same story over and over. In the end the author arrogantly justifies his treatment of both men and women to his experiences as a child.

A Story of Healing

I chose The Great Endurance: My Journey. My Truth. My Life by Maurice Lamar as selected read for our bookclub. I didn’t know the backstory and only knew that it was a true story. I was unaware of the tragic abuse that the author endured.

As he tells his story, Maurice Lamar lets readers into his darkest and innermost thoughts, truths and vulnerabilities. I appreciated the author’s openness and candor. Maurice Lamar has a peculiar
way with his storytelling and once I understood his writing style, I was able to pace my reading and enjoy his moments of reflection. While reading, oftentimes, I would empathize and feel his therapeutic healing through his words. This book could help others affected by sexual abuse, sexual addiction and depression.

Bravo to Maurice Lamar on his inaugural novel and for allowing readers to see his journey, truth and life.

I don’t often read author acknowledgements, but you don’t want to miss this one.

I give this book 4.5 stars.

Survival

It is hard to review a story of someone's real life experience.
I commend the author for his transparency. Parts of the book were difficult to read and I became so angry at the abuse of power directed toward this little innocent boy. Some things were mentioned and then the subject matter would change without much clarity. It read as journal entries. I am happy that the author is still with us and was willing to share his story.
