BSU Football #3

On the Sideline

Rate this book
Waking up in Bex’s bed is a nightmare I’ll never forget.

Now she seems to pop up everywhere I turn. And the more I get to know her, the more I like her. How had I never noticed her before? She shoves off every attempt I make to get close, and I don’t blame her. When I met her I was after her cousin.

I’m stuck on the sideline waiting for my chance to get back in the game with the right girl.

Jocks suck.

Does Loren really expect me to believe he wants to be my friend? If he thinks he can use me to get closer to my cousin, he’s a fool. She’d step over my dead body to get to better selfie lighting.

He doesn’t let up, and his attention confuses me. Because guys like Loren aren’t attracted to girls like me. I’m already an outcast. Giving Loren a chance would mean social suicide.

On the Sideline is the third book in a series. I haven't read the other two (the blurb didn't appeal to me), but I honestly don't think it's necessary.
I enjoyed this one. It is quite short, and the pace of the story kept me hooked until I finished it. My only issue with it was that the ending was rushed, and there really isn't closure on the main conflict. I think it needed a few extra chapters.
Also, there's insta-love, but it didn't bother me much.
It felt a bit young adult to me, for some reason. The whole college setting is pretty much non existent.
Like I said, I enjoyed reading this one. My favorite character was Bex, of course, because of the way she deals with a drunk jock in her bed.

Not nearly enough time spent with them as a couple and too much focused on "what my cousin may do". The revenge event was pretty much swept under the rug and it needed to be further explored.

However, I loved getting to see Spider and Emery. They're true to their characters and (this probably says something about me) I LOVE Emery! Her borderline sociopath behavior is front and center when it comes to defending her friends.

Safety -
neither virgin - only mention was that H had quite a few ONS
H made out with h's cousin and wanted to pursue things more physical until he realized he didn't really know her that well and didn't really like her as a person

I was so ready to give this a 5, but there's one thing that I couldn't get past.

Bex (nerdy reptile girl from book 2) is obligated to be a part of her cousin's sorority because it's a family tradition. She's the outcast of not only her family, but of the sorority because of her frumpy appearance and love for reptiles. She's forced to attend all of the sorority parties and one night she finds a stranger in her bed. Loren (football star, farm boy) shows up at the sorority party hoping to get in the pants of Riley (Bex's cousin), but he gets so trashed he can't stand up. He crashes in what he thinks is Riley's bed, but he's given a VERY rude awakening. It's absolutely HILARIOUS. I cried from laughing so hard.

"You’re beautiful," I say as she’s climbing into her car. She stops, and turns her head, her expression unbelieving. "I’m serious, Bex. You’re the most beautiful, smartest, funniest girl I’ve ever met."

Loren starts to realize that maybe Riley isn't the kind of girl he's interested in after all (fyi, Loren and Riley aren't really bf/gf, they've barely even kissed, so there's no cheating). Eventually, Loren makes a decision and he and Bex start a very slow courtship . In the end, of course they get their HEA/HFN.

Side note: Bex ends up becoming BFF's with Emery and Rowan, and this trio of girls is AWESOME.

Why this didn't get 5 stars??? They don't have sex until the 91% mark, and it's quick and anticlimactic. The title is "On The Sidelines" and that's exactly what the relationship between Bex and Loren is. They are on the backburner of the whole "don't upset Riley" storyline. We don't get to see ANYTHING of them being a couple. Which is really upsetting because the entire book is good other than that part. I love Loren and Bex and they deserve happiness. They're a couple your heart cheers for.

OH - another thing that didn't make sense. All signs indicated that Bex was a virgin. I was shocked to discover she wasn't. She hasn't dated, she's shy, etc, etc. It just didn't fit with her character.

The book/series is really funny and fluffy. I still love it.

4.5 stars!

What a great read! A fun, flirty, funny and swoony NA enemies-to-lovers romance that sucked me in from start to finish. I loved these characters, and their story was so entertaining, this was such a fun read, and I loved it!

This is the third book in the BSU Football series, which tells the stories of a group of jocks all living together, each of them finding love one at a time. You could read this one as a standalone, but be aware that the characters from previous books all appear, and there are spoilers for the earlier books.

Bex and Loren don’t have a great first meeting. Firstly, he mistakenly wakes up drunk in her bed, secondly, he is pursuing her cousin (who is the president of her sorority), and thirdly, he’s a jock. So, she immediately dismisses him, wanting nothing to do with him. Loren’s first impressions aren’t that great either, seeing as Bex is a little bit quirky and confronts him with one of her pet snakes, and she’s totally the opposite of the types of girls he usually goes for.

But they keep popping up in each other’s lives, and the more they get to know each other, the more there is to like. It’s a fun friendship that very quickly turns flirty when Loren declares his feelings, creating a chemistry-filled dynamic with a twist, because Bex has some trouble accepting his attraction, and literally has no clue what to do with it. It’s a situation that had me bouncing up and down with excitement as the sexual tension builds, and I was so excited to see how it was all going to play out.

“You’re telling me you don’t feel it?”
Feel it? I feel a lot of things.
“When we’re together?” He slides his hand toward me on the bench stopping just shy of my hand. “Do you feel it?”
I suck in a shuddered breath and press my thighs together.
“You feel it.” The deep timber of his voice is like liquid sex.
“You’re a good looking guy.” I hate the shaky weakness in my voice. “Every girl feels something around you.”
“But I only feel something around you.”

This is such a cute romance. It’s fast moving, but has the feel of a slow build, and this sense of desperation and the forbidden as they navigate the tricky situation with Bex’s cousin and their sorority. There is drama and emotion, but most of all there’s just swoon as Loren goes all out to prove to his girl that she is the one he wants.

“Guys like you don’t fall for guys like me.”
He sits up and turns more fully to me. “Says who?”
“Society.”
“Fuck society. I think you’re gorgeous, Bex. Your presence charges the air in a room so that I can feel you before I even see you. What is that?”
I pluck the front of my shirt and bring it to my nose. “Tide Clean Breeze?”
“No, Brat” … “It’s you.”

I admit, I didn’t always agree with Bex and all of the decisions that she made, but it was just so much fun watching their story unfold. I was glued to my kindle and could not get enough of these two characters who are so entertaining and witty – their conversations, text messages, and private perspectives had me giggling all the way through.

And oh, holy swoon, Loren completely stole my heart as a devoted romantic hero fighting hard for his girl. He’s honest and open about what he’s feeling, and he is not shy about demonstrating that, and I just adored him.

“You’re not going to regret letting me love you.”

I had so much fun reading this book. I love the characters and their story, I loved catching up with the previous couples (and I’m so excited at the possibility of more stories from this series, with two boys still to go), and wow, what a romance.

“I’m going to be so good to you, you’re never going to let me go.”

Such a great read – 4.5 stars.

It was alright. The hero turned out to be pretty sweet but I’m tired of reading about this type of heroine. The type who’s pretty but doesn’t know it. The type who doesn’t care what she wears and has glasses and weird hobbies and that makes her special..

I just wish those type of heroines would disappear and that writers would stop writing them thinking that they are doing something great. It’s okay for a woman to like to dress up. It’s okay for her to dye her hair whatever freaking colour, it’s okay for her to diet and eat only certain things because everyone has a different metabolism. I just wish this idea of the “perfect” casual, isn’t very into herself, type of girl would stop being described as the ideal. It’s insulting.

description

On the Sideline is the third book in the BSU Football series and the main characters are Bexley and Loren. I was looking forward to this book when I finished Hail Mary, and couldn't wait to see how Bex and Loren would get together. The first scene with them alone together was hilarious. It was original and so much fun, and it hooked me to the story. Loren is kind of seeing Bex's cousin (and sorority sister), but after seeing more and getting to know Bex he quickly tries to convince her to give him a chance.

This was a fast-paced new adult romance, and even though it wasn't super long the author was still able to tell a whole story. This is why JB Salsbury is one of my favorite authors. I can always depend on her to give me a great story with awesome and original characters. New Adult isn't my favorite subgenre but I'll read anything this author writes. I highly recommend this series if you are looking for a light and fun New Adult romance. PS: I really need Kaipo to get his own book!

He wakes up in her bed. Says some rude things off the cuff. Then he can't stop thinking about her. Yet he is supposedly dating/interested in her cousin. Now he sees her everywhere he goes. She is even great friends with his friend's girlfriends.

Bex can't stand him. Sure he is hot and sexy but the things he said....just no!

Loren is pushing his way into her life. She just dodges every advance because she knows for a fact she can't trust him or his motives, and she won't be used to get closer to her cousin, who is a bitch to the N-th degree to her.

When she lets her guard down, they grow closer, much closer and then the proverbial shit hits the fan. Will he run? Will she? Will they fight to be together or was she right from the beginning that jocks suck!

This was a super cute, quick, light, flirty read. The H and h were adorable together. I’ve been really enjoying this whole series. The j/p scenes are fun. I loved how verbal the H is with his feelings, complimented and adorations. His POVs and inner thoughts about her were so stinking cute. He was seriously adorable and his elation that she is his was palpable.

My only complaint was that I wanted more comeuppance for the sorority and for Riley.

This isn’t a complaint but I was confused on the hs character. I don’t remember her from the other books, if there were references to her sexual history there, but the sexual experience she seems to have didn’t match the way I felt like her character was being portrayed. It didn’t change the way I enjoyed the book especially since this is just a quick, fun read but I did take pause. I read their first sex scene twice because I was like did I miss the mention of her being a virgin? I assumed she was or at the least inexperienced and she wasn’t.

I fell SO HARD for the BRAT and the Jock.
(It'll all make sense once you dive in).

Book 3 in the BSU series by JB Salsbury keeps the momentum up like a freight train.

We now get to spend some time with sweetheart Loren, and our fearless Bexley. (Yeah... she's a snake lover)

Bex popped up for a quick second in Hail Mary, but she made a HUGE impression right out of the gate in On The Sideline. I fell head over heals for this unique girl and her outlook on life.

She's faced with the attention of a sexy football star and has literally no idea what to do about it.

But every time she's looking over her shoulder to see who Loren is after, he reminds her that it's her.

Watching these two build a friendship along side their attraction for one another is so genuine, and often missing in a lot of romance. It makes the end game that much sweeter, and the slow burn turns into an inferno you absolutely won't want to miss.

This is a total five star read dedicated to all the never expected couples out there.

4.5 On the Sideline Stars🌟

I really enjoyed the start to this story with Bex and Loren😂 The storyline itself was great and I really liked the characters.

Loren is dating Bex’s cousin on and off, when he realises the attraction he has to Bex is off the charts and approaches Bex about his feelings. Bex fearing the fallout from her cousin, convinces Loren to keep “dating” her cousin, until a certain formal has passed😳

I’m hoping that we will get a story for Kaipo and Levi down the track as well😁 A very enjoyable series and totally recommend❣️

I was really looking forward to reading this one, but I didn't like it as much as the others. I just didn't believe the relationship between Loren and Bex. I felt like Loren's feelings came out of nowhere for her, and I feel like Bex just suddenly liked Loren even though she said he wasn't her type. I did enjoy the book, and it was well written. I just feel like the other two books in the series had more of an emotional impact on me than this one. I am super excited to see the next few books in this series when they come out.

I'm devouring this series at lightning speed, and this third book was just as good as the first two. I kind of had a problem with Loren kind of dating Riley - yes, the heroine's cousin - but I got over it, he and Bex were just too cute together.

They were seemingly polar opposites but they were great together.

Hero - Loren
Heroine - Bex
Other woman; heroine's cousin - Riley

Excerpts:
"I'm dating Riley."

“You’re dating my cousin.”
“We’re not dating.”
“You made out with her, multiple times.”
He recoils, but doesn’t deny it.
“And you’re her date for the Valentine’s Day formal.”

Love this series. A few spoilers below clearly marked

No cliffhanger
Standalone though part of a larger series
Told from both POVs
Unexpected attraction romance

I loved this entire series, and this book was no exception. It was the perfect blend of banter, hilarity, drama, and chemistry.

Loren is the football jock. Bex is the nerd obsessed with reptiles. While their pairing was unexpected the chemistry was off the charts. Loren was technically seeing Bec’s cousin before he met her but accidentally ended up in her bed after a drunken night. After almost being attacked by a snake he hightailed it out of there but not before he gets hit with an unexpected attraction to her.

Bex is used to being the nerd that no guy gives a second look. She immediately thinks Loren only wants to get to know her to try and get closer to her cousin but she couldn’t be more wrong.

The biggest issue is Bex knows her cousin hates to lose and when she finds out that Loren is more interested in Bex than her, she knows she’s going to lose it. And boy is she not wrong. Her cousin is vicious!

I don’t want to give too much away but if you’re looking for a book filled with chemistry and a knight in shining armor this is the book for you.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Lol.

The only issue I had with this book was that Bex’s family drama didn’t seem to have any closure and I hated the apology from her cousin after what she did to her. It seemed rushed and not within the cousins character. I would have liked to see her cousin get in real trouble for what she did, not just get to go on with her life after making her life hell.

Other than that the book was super hot and I absolutely loved Loren. He was such a gentleman and I loved how his feelings developed and he tried to fight them or write them off.

Awww this one's so sweet! Whereas Hail Mary had darker edges this ones sweet as candy!

Poor Bex! I knew she'd be my girl. The poop she took off those sorority B's made my blood boil. She's so inoffensive that her jelly cousin walked all over her. She'd been put down her whole life she just got on with it. It was only made better when she got the right people behind her. First with her girls Ro and Emery who just accepted her how she came then when Loren realised what a catch she was she started to shine! I loved seeing her grow in confidence it was one of those *fist pump* "you go girl!" moments! It was kind of a Cinderella story and it made my secret "i love a good fairytale" heart happy.

Loren was 100% Prince Charming. His southern manners were sweet but his Footballer dirty mouth made him swoonsome! Such a great guy, i loved how he saw Bex beneath the baggy clothed armour. He wanted to shout it from the rooftops she was his and it was just wonderful and heartwarming. He's great i loved him loads.

Fabulous fairytale romance that brought all the warm fuzzies. Great to see Carey and Ro happy still and Spider and Emery, who, made me laugh lots, still crazy and in love. I can't wait to see who's next! Hoping it's the big guy!

Funny, smart, loveable, book you don't want it to end

Bex is the witty, beautiful, reptile Loving rich girl that doesn't fit into her family or her ETA Pi sorority, Loren is the college football player, blue collar guy that thought he wanted a relationship with Riley, Bex beautiful cousin, that was before he accidentally ends up in Bex's bed along with one of her snakes! I laughed out loud and smiled the whole way while reading this story. Such a feel good story with characters you fall in love with the main characters as well as their friends. The writing is witty, realistic ,just plain fun. This book is the thing that will bring you out of stay at home, six feet apart feelings that are happening today. Wonderful book!

Great read

I really liked this. Bex is the proverbial square peg in a round hole in her family and with her sorority sisters. Loren is a football player, but not a manwhore which was a nice break. The two meet in a very unorthodox situation and start to deceive feelings for each other. Pretty safe. No virgins no real discussing sexual history. They have met before but start to like each other when he is hanging out with her cousin. I didn’t consider it cheating because abs the cousin have only kissed, abs weren’t together when he met Bex. He stops anything with her immediately, although he agrees to take her to a formal because Bex didn’t was to the the reason her cousin didn’t have a date.

Loren is dating Bex's cousin who also happens to be the president of their sorority. One night at a party Loren has a bit too much to drink and passes out in Bex's bed thinking it was her cousins room. Oops. He was not so pleasantly woken up by Bex and her pet snake. Yup. But after that he can't seem to stay away from her. He realizes that he can't stand Bex's cousin and who he really wants is Bex. But Bex doesn't trust him because he is a jock and jocks don't fall for the plain nerdy girl.

This one was fun and cute but wasn't my favorite. I found somethings a bit far fetched and Bex irritated me with all her pushing of Loren to her cousin. Just take what you want girl. You deserve it. But it was still a fun and enjoyable read that I would recommend.

As romances go, this was cute. I love a quirky girl with weird hobbies. Pet snakes? I’ll pass but somehow Bex makes it work. I also like the fact that she’s not a size 0 and blonde and perfect. I love that she’s strong in who she is but still vulnerable.

Loren, gotta love a guy who knows what he wants. No games. No confusion. He wanted Bex and he did everything to make her see that. I also really love that he truly embraced her weirdness and loved her more for her authentic passion.

Seriously cute.

And I think when it came to the Bex’s family, a lot of people can relate to being the “black sheep” of the family. Not the favourite, misunderstood. But I love the family she found for herself amongst her friends.

Oh Bex & Loren

At first Loren and Bex do not like one another but after a night of sleeping in the wrong bed Lorens feelings about Bex change. There’s a bit of a complication in the form of Riley, Bex cousin, who Loren originally liked but realizes they weren’t true feelings not like what he feels for Bex.
Bex of course is comfier because she never saw herself as pretty or how anyone especially a jock like her over her cousin.
Something crazy happens, I’m not going to tell you so go read the book. But oh man does Loren step in like the gentleman he is and saves the day. Loren just makes me swoon. 😍 such a gentleman and so nice unless you upset him or his friends and family

Awesome Story!!

I absolutely loved this book! The relationship between Loren and Bex is sensational. There complete opposites , but that doesn’t stop the attraction between them. The journey they take to be together is not easy , but in the end there amazing together. JB Salsbury brilliantly brings this storyline to life. Believe me she does not disappoint. I always love all the other characters from the past books. This is an amazing series so far and I can’t wait for the next in line. An absolute must read ❤️

"Brat"

I absolutely loved this story! Loren is just such a charmer but also a true gentleman, I loved his response to the incident at the Eta Pi event. Everyone should be so lucky to have someone like Loren on their side. I just adored Bex, this girl always seems to be the odd man out, nothing she does seems to be good enough for her family but she just keeps on keeping on. I will admit that Monty and Bex's other two friends, while I wasn't expecting their appearance, it was a nice touch.

Quick romcom sport romance, light on the sport and steam

What I liked:
- j/p H
- funny nerdy h
- a little angst and OW drama

What I didn’t like:
- I found it odd that the h was portrayed as an innocent nerdy girl that no one had ever noticed and with no social life to speak of, but when they finally get together for sex, she comes off as super experienced. She was the aggressor. I found it jarring.
- once again the athlete H is neutered and the h runs circles around him. I’m so tired of this.
