Jack is pretty sure that's the way the saying goes. That's a good thing too, for the war in Ter’nodril which he’d hoped would spell the beginning of the end for the DIR, instead left him corrupted, body and soul.
The good news is that the Fallen had used the Blight that now fills his veins as a weapon in their war against the gods themselves. So he’s sure that he can find a way to use it to destroy Valia Online, once and for all.
He even knows exactly who he'll test its power against first: Manhart.
As he must answer a question he’s wanted to ask since they first met: what sound will the lich make when he’s dying?
I always loved games, but as time went on, I started to feel that gaming lacked something. There was too much grinding, weak stories, repetitive mechanics and other annoyances, like the dreaded microtransactions.
I had always loved reading, but eventually the novels I found began to feel stale, they were too cliche to keep me excited to turn the pages.
Then the stars aligned and I found GameLit; it was the perfect blend of my interests, it recaptured the way I had felt when gaming and the fantasy genre. I could follow the story of a character in a world that ran on game rules, whether it be in a parallel universe or full-immersion VR. I could vicariously enjoy all the parts of a game I’d loved, without being subjected to the interminable grind. I was drawn in by the notion of hyperrealistic worlds and NPCs controlled by advanced AIs, where magic required actual understanding to cast and actions had tangible consequences. The genre ticked all the right boxes for me, I’d found a new love.
Yet, the stories were so few, I’d read everything available and still, I wanted to read something nobody had written. So, I started writing myself.
Today, I write full time and am best known as the author of the Unbound Deathlord series.
The ending nerfed the entire series. Really disappointing. The book is told in a nonlinear, and ultimately pointless style. , so much so that I'm going to go back and rework my previous positive reviews about this series. The only reason to wade through this dark and ugly world, the protagonist's conceit, and, his asshattery is the possibility of his redemption. This possibility is removed by the end of the book. Blech.
This isn't doing it for me, I want to read something else. It seems I'm really over these "in a game" novels.
That was a slog. The book wasn't bad, it just deals with aspects I have no interests in, and some I seem to have fallen out with.
I will not continue this series in the future. If you care about the human psyche and the lengths we humans go to lie to ourselves about its health, go ahead.
I loved this book, and enjoyed how it continued the series though by the end I have to say WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? I mean the Sam only chapters seemed to be discussing events that occurred after Jack got captured. Then the chapters with Jack seemed to be doing the same. Then the last two chapters seemed to have been the first. Then the ending just seems to indicate that everything that happened was just the AI playing. This book was so confusing. Especially when Jack starts talking about how Sam helped him get better once he was released. This book although good made me scratch my head.

Absolutely amazing continuation of the story, and so involved in many different aspects that I can understand how it went over a lot of heads. The way the time is moved about so as to give a surprise ending that honestly caught me off guard was very well done. I can't wait to continue the series if it is continued, and it is definitely worth listening to if you can get the audio book. The narrator is perfect.
So, as with the previous works, I loved it. But the ending was quite frustrating, leading me to wonder if I will continue the series (assuming that wasn’t the end of it, which would be just as annoying).
A little to much of the mechanics explanations at time, but otherwise a good read for the most part.
The entire story was great and insane. I confused by some of it but in the end it all came together and finally I understood. I have so many questions now i dont know where to begin.
Didn’t totally love the ending… Gave 5 stars for the previous books and wanted to see where the story takes our characters next. The nonlinear format of this book is really jarring vs. the previous books.

Man, really can't talk about this one without giving out major spoilers. I'm intensely interested in reading the next one and seeing where this all goes.
Everything up til last chapter: 5+ stars Last chapter: 1 star
I enjoyed this story immensely, up til the very last chapter. I won’t give spoilers, but it clarifies why certain things happened throughout the story. And I hated it! I’d say that last chapter ruined the story for me. I give overall 4 stars because the story was a fun read up til then.
