I sacrificed myself to save my sister’s ship. Now the raider warlord owns me.

It was my own fault. I was the navigator of our ship, and I’m the one who led us straight into Vandar territory.

We’d heard rumors about the Vandar raiders—everyone in the galaxy had. Terrifying and ruthless, they were a scourge on the Zagrath empire and destroyed everything in their path.

Few had actually laid eyes on the Vandar or the notorious warlords who led their fleets of warships—and survived to talk about it. So, when the ruthless aliens boarded our ship intent on destroying it and killing the crew, I did the only thing I could do.

I gave myself to the dark and menacing warlord. In exchange for allowing my sister’s ship passage out of the Vandar territory, I must share his bed and travel with his crew of deadly raiders. Even though the sight of the huge, battle-scarred alien terrifies me.

But as I adjust to my new life on a savage warship, I discover that the dominant alien warrior wants more than just my body. He wants to possess my soul. And he’ll make a new deal with me to get it.

"Possessed" is a full-length sci-fi romance novel with a HEA and no cheating. It features steamy scenes on a raider warship, alien horde space battles, and some serious enemies-to-lovers heat.

If you like dominant and dangerous alien warriors, alien abduction to seduction romance, and hot scenes with a happily ever after, you’ll love "Possessed", the first book in Tana Stone’s sci-fi romance
Raider Warlords of the Vandar series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

I love sexy aliens and independent heroines. I grew up on Star Trek: Next Generation and Star Wars (and I adore them equally). My favorite superhero is Thor (with Aquaman a close second because, well, Jason Momoa), my favorite dessert is key lime pie (okay, fine, all pie), and I still lament the loss of Firefly.

I live in North Carolina in the US and have one husband, two teenagers, and two neurotic cats. I sometimes wish I could teleport to a holographic space station like the one in my tribute brides series (or maybe vacation at the oasis with the sand planet barbarians). :-) When I'm not writing, I love to paddleboard, dive, travel, and read obsessively!

Hot Aliens in battle kilts with tails!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜🖤💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤

The setting: Space

The Hero: Raas Kratos – A Vandar Warlord and the head of a horde of warships that fight against the Zagrath empire. The Zagrath are humanoid invaders who are trying to take over the universe. The Zagrath pushed the Vandar off of their own world and now the Vandar strike back whenever possible. The Vandar have stealth technology that make their ships invisible which the Zagrath and other ships don’t have so it gives them an advantage.

The heroine: Astrid – She was the navigator on a ship that her sister won in a card game. They used it to bring Zagrath supplies from one world to another, but they are human not Zagrath. When the ship is caught in Vandar territory due to a navigational error of Astrid’s, her sister was about to be killed by the Vandar leader. Astrid steps up to take her sister’s place since she was at fault.

The Love Story: The ruthless Vandar leader decides to take Astrid instead of putting her to death. So she ends up a prisoner on his ship.

I thought this would be a good break from all the mafia romances I have been reading lately an I was right. It has been a long time since I read an alien captive romance and I really enjoyed this book. It had a terrific back story of the war between the Vandar and the Zagrath as well as a great love story between Kratos and Astrid. One thing I like about alien romance is that they can have different bodies than humans (the Vandar have very sensitive tails).

Another thing I like about these books is that they can have different technology than we have. They can have baths with four colors of water that are different heat levels and other fun things like that. They can have different food and medical technology. It is just fun to read in different ways than your standard romance novel. I really enjoyed this book and I will be reading more alien & sci-fi romance in the future.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Re-read via Audiobook

The book was told in dual POV with narration by Addison Barnes and Marcia Cata and I loved it. It was done in what I recently learned is called “duet narration” where one voice actor narrates all the male-sounding characters in all chapters, and another voice actor reads all the female-sounding characters. This is my favorite type of narration so props for that.

I found myself wondering how the battle Kilts work with the tails. Do they have a bare backside? Is there a tail hole? Or is there a slit down the backside which gives peeks of their butts as they walk? Just something I was thinking about.

My Review

3.5 STARS.
This was a new author for me and I enjoyed this one it was an easy read that I got through in one sitting.

So genre-wise this is a Sci-Fi and it had a very barbarian warrior space vibe to it.
The Vandar are a nomad horde tribe of humanoid alien warriors with tails who use space as there personal playground.
These highly advanced Viking like warriors have been at war with the Zagrath Empire for many cycles.
Anyone who stands or associates with them they class as an enemy.

Enter Astrid who manages to navigate her sister's freighter into Enemy territory placing them all in danger.
Striking a deal with the warlord boarding there ship and to also save her sister seems her best option.

The warlord Kratos feels instantly a pull to the pretty little human hence why he goes against protocol and takes Astrid as a willing hostage In return for sparing her sister and her crew she will be his personal property.

So this one had plenty of heat and though I found Astrid a bit irritating initially she did grow on me and she was harmless.
I think she has been mostly sheltered by her older sister who made all the hard choices for them and this has left her a bit naive and I think going with Kratos has given her the chance to step out of her sister's shadow and be her own person.

Kratos well, he fights a constant battle between duty and his own personal wants I liked him but I couldn’t help but still feel slightly miffed at the way he eventually accepts his feelings and life with Astrid.

Instead of defying tradition and saying proudly to hell with it, this is my woman, Kratos was actually willing to walk away from Astrid until fate sealed the deal for him.
She doesn’t really question this as she should have in fact Astrid doesn’t question a lot of things she totally should have
Astrid is always to accepting and willing to forgive and I just felt Kratos was doing her a huge disservice like she was only just now worth it when fate took a hand and stepped in.
It just left a bit of a sour taste that’s all.
I just wanted him to except Astrid in her entirety just because he cared and tell her that.

This did leave me with questions just why those mercenaries were hired and just why whoever was pulling there strings wanted Astrid dead hopefully we will learn this at a later date.
There’s obviously more to the story than first appears.
I also thought it cold that Astrid never gives her sister another thought especially when unbeknown to her this said sister has been scouring space looking for her.

The finish here I found highly Intriguing with the brother and all and first impressions he seems delicious hard and very vicious.
I’m looking forward to that one a lot.

So yeh I definitely think there’s more to be said and some questions that need clearing up
Overall I enjoyed this it was well written and I’m interested in seeing what happens going forward.

This is a well written entertaining read and if you like steamy sci-fi warrior romance this will be a fit.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Possessed.

A merciless warlord takes a human woman captive.... 4.5 stars!

What a great start to a new series by Tana Stone! POSSESSED was a sexy story of love and acceptance found in space, and I absolutely loved it. I got such Star Wars vibes from the combat scenes and even the communication between ships, which was fun for my nerdy side.

Kratos is a Raas of Vandar, a brutal warlord of a raider horde whose sole mission is to fight the regime of the Zagrath. After Astrid agrees to board Kratos' ship in order for her sister and crew to be spared, she is forced to follow Kratos as he continues to battle the Zagrath who seem intent on kidnapping Astrid away from him. However, Kratos is not going to let Astrid go that easily while Astrid begins to see a new side of the wild Vandar horde. This story was super steamy and the action of the story was great. I loved the strength and individuality of the characters and look forward to the next book!

I know, I know.

I swear, I'm not addicted to alien erotica. I don't have a problem, okay? Get off my back about it!

description

Honestly, this was kind of a let down. It sort of felt like one of those Star Wars porn parody movies, or something. Plus, it was eerily similar to Captive of the Horde King, but not nearly as good.

We get some space action, which is fun. I, like every other stupidly nerdy child of the 80's, wanted to be a fighter pilot when I grew up. If only my inner Starbuck knew that I'd end up helping people pay their taxes. LOL.

This wasn't a bad read, it just lacked anything to really grip me. I think I can say that about almost everything I've read this month. Lé sigh.

What a disaster. I should have checked if I already attempted a book by this author before hand, it would have spared me. Because I did and all were rated with a single star!!!

The author uses stereotypical, one dimensional characters, that are not even thought through because they change their characteristics according to the plot, to simply make it fit. Which is not the work of a good author in my opinion. Especially when the world building is sparse, the plot generic and the ending preprogrammed. You need to focus on interesting characters to make the book and the story good.

I didn’t like that the author put so much negative weight on the character having curves. It feels falsely used by the author only serving a purpose to connect with some targeted audience than showing some respect or real understanding.
And on a side note, someone who really has a problem with their weight doesn’t call them curves. They would not even think about, let alone ending up not 5 minutes after their own abduction naked by their own choice, taking a bath in a bathroom without a door. In the quarters of her abductor, while the ship she is on is still in the process of being attacked and she was thrown around injuring herself not 3 minutes earlier.
It is ridiculously idiotic to think a woman would act and behave that way. One no less I would be interested to read anything about.
The character of the main female lead isn’t thought through and realistic. It is not a good work in my opinion, the behaviour is irrational and doesn’t follow a real characterisation and authenticity.
Besides the fact that she is annoying and immature with narcissistic tendencies. Shown by her thought process early on based on her major screw up, endangering other people, she only can think of the annoyance of getting reprimanded later, or how it is a common occurrence of hers, screwing up constantly in everything she does. Does the author want pity now? Because you won’t get any for someone who complains but doesn’t change. And it isn’t an endearing quality either. And it seems like she doesn’t take anything serious or responsibility for it or has even the slightest inkling of the consequences others have to carry.
And then the author wants to sell me that for once she takes responsibility she is seen as a strong woman? A martyr saving others?
I just even can’t, for such a stupid psychological thinking.

But not only that, the badass warriors are gearing up, war cries and adrenaline rising, tension building...big words thrown around, for what? To realise there is no enemy, there will be no fight, which the reader already knew but apparently the warriors didn’t. It was ridiculous to read actually.
The writing style took away the fun and the action and showed a lack in skill of writing. To summarise everything afterwards takes all the suspense and the participation of the reader out of the story.
And the book goes on in that matter it was silly to read.

Raas Kratos is a fierce Vandor warlord of a raider horde whose sole mission is to fight the regime of the Zagrath, any who work for the Zagrath in any capacity are deemed enemies. When Astrid makes a navigation error leading to her sister's ship entering Vandor space, in order to save her sister and crew she begs for her life to be taken and the rest spared. Drawn to her, Kratos rather than take her life, goes against protocol and takes Astrid to be his.

The heat between to the two is clear from the get go, I did want a smidge more fire from Astrid, but can understand why it didn't happen, always protected/sheltered by her sister Astrid slowly starts to grow in this book once she is taken/kidnapped by Kratos.

Kratos fights a constant battle between duty and his own personal feelings for Astrid, I liked him but I do wish that there had been a moment when he fiercely went

One key issue I had, that still has me wrinkling my nose, was that Kratos goes to . Also still unclear on why the Zagrath wanted Astrid dead.

I'll be keeping an eye out for book 2.

I HATED Kratos. He threatened to kill Astrid's sister. Then when Astrid says to kill her instead, he decides to take her and force her to have sex with him. Yuck! Rapists anyone? Aaaand Astrid is turned on by him... Nothing like a man who attacks your ship, threatens to kill your sister, and then is going to force you to have sex with him?!? Not to mention, he bosses her around like slave and leaves her locked in his room. When she is not as compliant as he wants, he threatens to track down her sister.

To make me dislike him even more, he plans on sleeping with whores and Astrid. He even admits it when she confronts him. He talks badly about her to his crew- stating she is just on the ship so he can screw her and nothing more. He goes to a whorehouse to prove to his crew Astrid means nothing to him. He lets the whore give him a bj. Then tells his crewmate she was sufficient and has no more loyalty to Astrid then he does a whore. DISRESPECTFUL ASSHOLE. This is not an honorable guy! Great pick for Astrid the virgin. 33% DNF. Can't force myself to read anymore. I think I will skip the series

Style: Sci-Fi Romance
Story: 4/5
Enjoyment: 4/5
Dark Level: 1/5
Sexual Level: GOOD
Triggers: No
Violence: Yes
Male: Leader & Sexy
Series: book 1
Pages: 276
Audio: GOOD (f/m)
Kindle Unlimited: Yes

STORY:

First, I have to start by saying the male narrator did such an amazing job. He is 50% of why I fell in love with this story. I think the audio made a big difference.

I found myself enjoying this book. So much so that I can’t wait to dive into book 2 in the series. I like the way the author gave us a build up between Astrid and Kratos. Yes, Kratos was always worried if his crew would think he has gone soft , but that’s what I love, the battle within himself and seeing him slowly gave into his wants. Astrid was the unlikely hero. I liked the way Kratos involve her and that she didn’t feel like she was in the back ground anymore.

I think it went over my head, but I wasn’t sure who was originally trying to kill Astrid on the first attempt.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Their sex scenes were good, and a big part of that was their already there chemistry.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
There were so many characters that brought this book together and I was here for them all, even the bad guys. I am dying to read Astrid’s sister’s story which involves Krato’s brother.

OVERALL:
A good listen for me and I enjoyed it immensely.

✰✰TRIGGERS:

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Well, well, well....that was pretty freaking hot!

Hot, violent, and demanding, Kratos is all that and more. Very impressive MC.

Stone did a great job on the world build. Loved that it is a different (a little) than most alien related romances. Secondary characters are not influential in the series which usually doesn't set well with me. However, the way Stone relays her story I did not feel the need for the secondary character connection.

FMC, Astrid, is not a fav of mine. I am super big on strong female leads. Did not get that from Astrid. Leading to the 4 star rating.

Very hot and spicy! Definitely will continue this series!

Happy reading,

FUEGGGGOOOO❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Wowwwzzzaa!! This one was smokin hot! When warlord Kratos raids an enemy ship, he orders the execution of the captain and is struck by a little human who throws herself in his way and offers her life in exchange. Despite her terror, her bravery shines thru willingness to sacrifice herself impresses him, but there’s something else, some confusing pull that transfixes him and even tho his people NEVER take prisoners, he can’t help himself and claims her for himself.

I loved the way the romance built between the two, and while he does try to resist her, perplexed by the barrage of unknown and new feelings she evokes in him, it’s a futile effort. The hero was raw and barbaric and untamed—and its for this reason I was able to overlook a “yuck” moment (see below for SPOILERS!!!) and it was awesome to see his growth and redemption.

The heroine was AMAZING and I absolutely freakin adored her—she was strong and smart, but had to grow into her strengths and it didn’t come at the expense of being an obnoxious heifer. I also LOOOVED that she was innocent, that she hadn’t spread her legs for losers to slime between and was able to give the hero the primal satisfaction in claiming her for himself, taking her innocence for himself and in doing so, forging a bond that can never be duplicated with another. We need more heroines like this in sci-fi romance.

SPOILERS BELOW, read at your own risk:

This book isn’t a safe, “total swoon” read. The hero is a manwhore and we are told and SHOWN ad nauseum to the point of being nauseated of his visits to prostitutes. He goes to the prostitute planet and engages the service of a whore, she sucks him for money BUT that’s as far as he can go with her, his burgeoning, new-found feelings for the heroine stops him before he does more. STILL, even tho he didn’t actually stick his overused, damaged goods appendage into the nasty skank, the scene was putrid. And besides the obvious grossness of diseases and reducing women as objects for men to relieve themselves into, there’s the sociopathy of engaging in sexual intimacy with no emotional connection and degrading it to nothing more than a sordid exchange of bodily fluids. It was the worse scene in the book and the only redeeming quality of it was that it showed the hero unable to go any further with the whore. Also, the hero didn’t yet realize how important the heroine was to him. I’m tempted to remove stars just for this scene but it’s so rare to get a sweet, innocent heroine who is 100% the hero’s in sci-fi romance that I’m giving it 5 stars for that alone ❤️

Thankfully, that’s the only scene with ow/om and the hero is completely faithful to heroine from that point onwards. There was no abuse and there’s an HEA with a few months in the future. Unfortunately no real epilogue.

'twas entertaining 🤷

Let your brains take a back seat and enjoy the ride in this spaceship of stupid through the stars✨🛸✨

Can't possibly fathom how to give this a star rating. Know this: I will be continuing with this series. Make of that what you will 👁️👄👁️

Note:
There is smut, but it's not a lot 😢
What is character development as a concept in life you ask? ..What is a character?
Let's not ask important questions like how these dumbasses were even capable of interstellar travel.

❗❗Medium Spoiler and a sort of TW:❗❗
There IS an element of cheating, just because the human woman doesn't give it all up for the alien dude immediately-right-this-second despite telling her he will give her time to come to him willingly doesn't mean the alien dude deep throating someone and THEN deciding that wait this is weird, I think I only want my ✨captive✨ isn't cheating when she clearly has feelings for him that she's sorting through AS ONE DOES WHEN ONE IS A *CAPTIVE*, and he ALSO CLEARLY HAS FEELINGS.
Also a mild case of non-consent, we got lucky that the woman was willing on the inside when the alien turned into a brute and dragged her down the bed saying I fuck u now woomin.

**3.5/5 stars**

I've read this book a while ago and had given it a 4 stars rating. Now that I've re-read, I adjusted it to 3.5 stars. It wasn't as good as I remembered but it had some moments that I enjoyed.

Astrid mistakenly leads her sister's ship into perilous Vandar territory. The Vandar raiders, infamous for their brutality, instill fear throughout the galaxy. When they board the ship, threatening the crew’s lives, Astrid makes a desperate choice to protect them, to correct her mistake: she surrenders to the warlord, Raas Kratos, in exchange for safe passage for her sister and the crew. As she adjusts to life aboard the warship, Astrid realizes that Kratos desires more than her body; he seeks to claim her soul and is ready to negotiate a new deal to do so.

“I didn’t know a Raas of the Vandar could be gentle,” I said before I could think better of it.
He nodded, his eyes drifting to my lips. “You make me want to be gentle.”
He dropped my hands and captured my jaw in one palm.
“You also make me want to tear the clothes off your body and fuck you right here on this table.”

Astrid was a relatable and likable heroine. She starts off as a bit of a klutz, who always relied on her sister for protection in the past, but as the story unfolds, she discovers her own identity and builds her confidence. It was nice to see her sweet nature evolve into genuine strength and bravery, making her journey all the more satisfying. I really liked that she was perceptive and gave sound advices to Kratos.

“If I don’t f*ck you soon I might have to kill someone.”-Kratos

As for Kratos, he initially comes off as an arrogant jerk, but it’ was nice to watch him soften around Astrid. He tried to keep his distance, thinking it will help him maintain control on his focus, but it’s clear he couldn't help but become obsessed with Astrid.

Overall, Astrid and Kratos share a lovely chemistry, filled with both sweet and passionate moments, as well as some teasing. While the pacing occasionally dragged and the plot felt quite simplistic, the characters were engaging and well-developed. I'm intrigued by a few side characters and am curious to see if they'll be getting their own book, so definitely looking forward to that.

3.5*

This book was an okay read. I was looking for something different and this book caught my attention but sadly it wasn't for me.

I liked the premise of the book and I really so wanted to like Raas Kratos but I felt let down by him.

He was supposed to be this feared warlord that scares everyone, yet he came out 2nd best twice and by the Zagrath no less! He also was questioned too many times by his cousin for me to take him seriously.

Astrid wasn't any better as I found her to be a bit irritating. I kept wondering what is up with this girl humming and talking to herself. She came across as a bit naïve.

There was a lot of questions that left me wondering if I missed something in this book like :

Who hired those mercenaries and why did they want her dead.

Also how come the Zagrath came to rescue her, Astrid came across as a nobody, yet the Zagrath was willing to go to war for her, why???????????

The ending with the mating symbols was a bit too convenient for me.

Vandar Raiders are amazing and I’m officially obsessed with this series. Hot Viking Space Aliens… Couldn’t read this fast enough!
Kratos was a Vandar Warlord and leader of a raider horde, Vandar raiders mission is to fight the Zagrath Empire. Vandars are very advanced technologically, they are ruthless warriors and they take no prisoners. Kratos was on his ship when he was informed that there was a ship that had entered Vandars’ space. He didn’t hesitate to pursue the ship and board it. Astrid made a navigation error that put her and everyone in her sister’s ship in danger. When they’re boarded by huge, ruthless, bare chested Vandars, she sacrifices her freedom to their leader and becomes his captive. Vandars aren’t exactly known for taking prisoners, but Kratos feels a strong pull to this short, curvy female human…
Kratos and Astrid were great characters, it was funny to see their relationship evolving in the Vandars’ warship. At first, Kratos didn’t knew how to handle a female human, he only wanted her in his bed. Astrid didn’t make it easy on Kratos but their attraction was insane and she just couldn’t resist him. I absolutely loved Astrid’s relationship with the young apprentice warrior that Kratos ordered to stay with her, their bond was sweet and I enjoyed how Astrid shared some human culture details with the kid.
I enjoyed the world building, it wasn’t fully developed but it definitely made me picture how the Zagrath empire, the Vandars, the humans functioned. I love SciFi so I wouldn’t exactly mind if the world was more explored but I get that the focus is the romance between the main characters and I enjoyed that. There were a few events mainly related to Kratos actions or words that I would like that happened in a different way, but I also understand that his actions made sense considering he was a Vandar.
Overall, Possessed was a engaging, fast paced, steamy, fated mates story and I’ll definitely continue with this series.

4 stars
Astrid makes the mistake of letting the ship she's helping to navigate go into Vandar territory—raider territory where no one wants to go, especially from the Zagrath empire—and Raas Kratos, the Vandar raider who comes across it, boards the freighter and decides to exchange the crew's life for her own, when she offers it. But contrary to the offer of her life, he wants something far more from her—her body and soul!

And you have no idea what will happen, I'm sure! Lol! In all seriousness, this was a very decent alien romance read, hence the 4 stars. I enjoyed Astrid and Kratos and the developing relationship between them, and that there wasn't too much avoidance or misunderstandings on either side. Some good world-building completed the book, though it's unclear to me what the longterm plan for Astrid and Kratos is, given that women, even Raisas, don't seem to stay on raider ships ...? Stone did a good job of setting up the evil Zagrath empire for us and showing us who we should clearly be allying ourselves with ... also interesting setup for the next book, because we know it's going to be Astrid's sister and Kratos's brother, which should be an interesting pairing, and a real enemies to lovers, from what we've seen independently of the two so far.

Off to read it ...

Possessed is my first Tana Stone novel. Its been awhile since I've read a Sci-Fi romance and this one did not disappoint. Sexy, alpha aliens, hott steamy scenes, action and adventure, romance, a little suspense and excellent world building all came together to make this novel an enjoyable read. The storyline was compelling and engrossing and I was hooked until the end.
I liked the main characters Raas Kratos and Astrid and I loved seeing how the relationship develops between these two. They had intense chemistry and their bedroom scenes were scorching hott. There was a cast of secondary characters who played a major role in providing balance and support to the main characters. There was a lot of action that kept you on your toes and had me turning to pages to see what happens next. In addition the author sets us up for the next book in the series. I really enjoyed this novel and can't wait for the second book to see what happens next. This was a fantastic read and I would highly recommend it to all lover of alien sci-fi romances.

I must say I enjoyed this book so much. It was a wonderful start to a new series. I truly liked that backstory of the war between the Vandar and the Zagrath was included. However, it didn't take large chunks of the story. We got information about the history of these two races in small bits when we needed it.

Astrid is the navigator for her sister's ship and she is possibly the worst in the galaxy at it.
She tries but it just isn't something she is good at. Which is how she puts them in Vandar territory while bringing Zagrath supplies from one world to another. With her sister's head on the chopping block (literally) she steps up and takes the punishment instead. After all it is her mistake that got them there.

Raas Kratos is the Vandar Warlord ready to give punishment to the human who are aiding the Zagrath. Instead of killing Astrid he makes a deal with her that she will come with him and live on his ship forever in exchange for the lives of her sister and shipmates.

Astrid and Raas Kratos are explosive together! It takes a while for the pair to find their place with one another. Astrid is the only female on a ship full of male warriors. She has to learn to live with the aliens around her and find her place. All the while they are being hunted and chased.

The Krin the young apprentice warrior assigned to keep Astrid company is one of my favorite characters. He believes in his horde and warlord without a moment of doubt. As I said I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This review was originally posted on Wickedly Romance >

Astrid is just about the unluckiest woman alive! Her sister is an ace Captain but the rest of her crew look at Astrid as a cling-on, she's been given the navigator position and she is the worst! When she inadvertently enters Vandar space, her ship gets boarded and the crew is about to face death - literally. She does the only thing she can think of - she ransoms herself to Raas Kratos – the Vandar Warlord in charge.

The Vandar are in an eternal struggle against the Zagrath empire. They are fighting to save enslaved worlds, they should be the good guys but their methods are a bit...extreme. They're the "chop off the leg to get rid of the wound" type!

Astrid really should grate on the nerves. She's a disaster waiting to happen. But she is really just naive and very sheltered by her capable big sister. She soon finds she has untapped talents where Kratos is concerned! Kratos is brutal, bullish and a hardass but when it comes to the fragile human he is downright tender - well as ender as a Vandar can get!

A great escape from reality. The naive heroine is well able to take the big, bad warrior in hand. I loved meeting the other Vandar and Astrid's sister. I really am looking forward to book 2!
