Ashleigh could use a little Christmas magic. She's still living in Brighton with her Nan - who could give the Grinch lessons in how to be miserable - her acting career has been reduced to playing one of Santa's elves, and not even the prospect of a friend's winter wedding can cheer her up...
That is until Olivier, the gorgeous French chef, reappears in her life. Or more accurately, next door.
When they were teenagers, Olivier would spend every Christmas with his mother, who just happens to be Ash's neighbour and owner of the best chocolate shop in England.
If anyone can bring a little sparkle back to Ash's life, it's Olivier. All she needs is one kiss before Christmas...
A devoted bookworm and secret-story-scribbler since she was 6 years old, Emma joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association on their New Writers’ Scheme at the beginning of 2019, determined to focus on her writing. She has been overwhelmed by the encouragement given by the published authors and fellow NWS members who are part of the RNA and highly recommends joining to any romance writers looking for support and friendly guidance (there are some bursaries available).
When she’s not running around after her two daughters and trying to complete her current work-in-progress, Emma loves to read, bake, catch up on binge-watching TV programmes with her partner and plan lots of craft projects that will inevitably end up unfinished. A MISTLETOE MIRACLE was her bestselling debut novel, published by Orion Dash, followed by SUMMER IN THE CITY and ONE KISS BEFORE CHRISTMAS will be released this November 2nd.
Also writes fantasy under Emma S. Jackson. THE DEVIL'S BRIDE was published by DarkStroke in February 2020.
I will start this review with saying what I liked, and then follow with what I think that could have been better.
The main strong point of this story is the festive atmosphere that is present through the whole book. Traditions, fairy lights, chocolate and food, Grinch type of character (because what Christmas book these days doesn't have one), they are all in this novel.
Also, the trope of second chance romance is done solid, with friends who were interesting characters with their own side stories and problems, and not just there to fill the space.
The books reads pretty quickly (tbh, I don't know if it's the writing or maybe I finally started to read at some decent pace).
Also, I have to mention that the cover is adorable.
As for the things that could have been better, I wish Ash's relationship with her mother could have been explored more. I also wish it had some sort of conclusion, or that it left Ash with bigger scar, as one would have in real life.
I also wish the romance delivered more, because now this books stands between general fiction where real problems were outshined by romance, that in the end wasn't swoony or smut enough to steal the show.
However, it was cute, entertaining story that I would recommend in this time of the year.
It is also 0,99$ on Amazon right now, and I think it is worth to give it a go for that price.
Christmas, chocolate and charm. This book was a scrumptious heartwarming holiday treat. Ashley is feeling a little bah humbug this Christmas. Her struggling acting career has landed her a part as an elf at the local Christmas farm, she still living with her Nan who has a heart the same size as the Grinch, and all her friends seem to be coupled up. Olivier has come to England to spend Christmas with his mother a local chocolatier. He is delighted to have a break from the high pressure job as a chef at his father’s French restaurant, but he has an offer of a promotion looming over him. Ashley and Olivier have known one another since they were kids there’s always been a little spark between them but the timing has never been good. Will this Christmas bring these two together with a little mistletoe magic.
This was such a sweet romance with the perfect sprinkling of festive cheer. Both Ashley and Olivier were tremendously likable characters who I was definitely routing four. Loved all the secondary characters in the story and was thrilled to see a few characters from previous books make an appearance. This was a wonderful well done will they won’t they romance. The perfect little afternoon escape. And can I just say the things that they could do with chocolate was amazing I would love to see the window display that Olivier designed.

*** Big thank you to Orion for my gifted copy of this book. All opinions are my own. ***
What a fabulous Christmassy romance. I absolutely loved the will-they-won't-they plot & as well as 2 endearing MCs in Ashleigh & Olivier, the author treats us to a chorusline of lovable supporting act characters. Nan was ACE! Ro & James's story kept me intrigued until the final page too & it was a lovely touch to see some familiar faces from previous books. That worked really well. The chocolatey aspect added another fascinating (and delicious) layer to the book and the elf scenes (and puns!) were great. With Jackson's signature wit woven throughout, it really was a highly entertaining escapism read!
I'm taking part in the #winterwarmerreadalong at ChicLit and Prosecco, and I was so lucky to get Emma Jacksons One Kiss Before Christmas, a beautiful Christmas story that I have enjoyed so much. Sometimes there's too much stress going on, even good stress, and everywhere you look, there seems to be no relief from what's going on in your life. And you think 'if I could only I could have a break, something where I don't have to think about the worries or the deadlines, or whatever is causing the stress'. And sometimes all you need is the right book to carry you away to a place that's filled with love and warmth and all the good things in life. I took mini-breaks to read One More Kiss Before Christmas, and that was all I needed to cheer me up. Following the story of Olivier the Chef and Ashleigh the Elf, as they try to handle their, at times, difficult lives, was so lovely. Ashleighs mother left her for Hollywood and rarely comes back to Brighton. She grew up with her Nan and feels bad about the burden she is sure she must have been. She tries to be an actor like her mother, but her heart isn't really in it. And she starts to realise that she has to find out for herself what she wants from her life. For starters she wants Olivier, who she has known since they were kids. The attraction has always been there, but she thinks it's only her. Olivier comes home to Brighton to spend Christmas with his mother, who runs a chocolate shop. Olivier grew up in Paris, he's a trained Chef and works in his fathers restaurant. His father has offered him a promotion, but Olivier is not sure it's what he wants. The tension between Olivier and Ashleigh was there right from the start, but the story took it's time to show who they were and how they both had to understand some truths about themselves before they could see the other. There's pleny of delightful characters taking part in the story, from Asheleighs best friends Ro and James, and their struggle to be parents, Oliviers lovely mother – how can you not be lovely when you're a chocolatier, Ashleighs Nan who at first comes across as a bit of a cynic and almost a grinch, but she is full of surprises, that one. I fell in love with all of them. Oh, and the ending ...
If there’s one thing I like doing, it’s discovering new authors. Emma Jackson is certainly a new author for me. I read the synopsis for ‘One Kiss Before Christmas’ and it certainly sounded like the sort of read I so desperately needed. My back had flared up and every movement was agony so I needed something to distract me from the pain for a few hours. Well this book certainly did that and more. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘One Kiss Before Christmas’ but more about that in a bit. It didn’t take me long at all to get into this book. In fact the synopsis and the colourful cover were enough to grab my attention. The story within the book’s covers just sealed the deal as it were. I had taken so well to the characters that they felt as though they had become friends of mine and I had to find out how the story panned out for the different characters. At times I just couldn’t turn the pages quick enough in my desperation to find out how the story concluded. This was one of those delightful reads that cheered me up and made me feel all warm and cosy inside. ‘One Kiss Before Christmas’ is extremely well written. Emma has one of those writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact, reading Emma’s book felt like I was having a chat with friends rather than actually reading a book. I hope that makes sense. I love the warm way in which Emma talks about her characters. She describes them so realistically and vividly that they literally seemed to jump off the page and they were just as real as you and I. Emma immediately drew me into the story from the start and I did feel as though I was part of the story itself, which is thanks to Emma’s very vivid storytelling. In short I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘One Kiss Before Christmas’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more from Emma Jackson in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 4* out of 5*.
*I was given an advanced reading copy of this book by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*
One Kiss Before Kiss was a heartwarming read which was a classic ‘will they won’t they’ romance novel. I do not read romance novels often as I’m really not a fan of cheesy, cliche characters and plot lines. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this book.
Firstly it is set in Brighton, where I have been living for the past three years, this made One Kiss Before Christmas that little bit more special for me. It was so nice reading about some of my favourite places in the city and being able to actually see them in my mind and having the ability to relate them to my own memories. Whenever somewhere like the pier or The Lanes was mentioned I had a huge smile on my face. More books set in Brighton, please!
Secondly, you can’t help but fall in love with Ash and Olivier and find their constant ‘will they won’t they’ bit charming. I genuinely thought that after a while I would get sick of this but I found that from the very beginning I was rooting for them. After fifteen years of both of them pining for the other, you can’t help but feel like a hopeless romantic yourself who wants to step into the book to tell them how they both feel and to get on with it already!
You also get to meet a lot of charming side characters, Romesh: Ash’s best friend who tries to play matchmaker between her and Olivier, Beth; Primary school friend of Ash who is getting married right before Christmas, and you, of course, cannot forget nan. A blunt retired nurse who has taken care of Ash since she was a child.
This was an extremely quick read for me, it has been less than 24 hours since I started the book. I found that I was so invested in Ash and Olivier and finding out whether they would get together that I did not want to put it down.
Although Christmas in the title of this book it isn’t a constant in your face theme. Yes, Christmas is mentioned quite often however it is not the main point of the book. I wouldn’t say I am feeling very Christmassy after finishing it, however, it is a very cosy read which is perfect for this time of year.
I would very much like to see a sequel to One Kiss Before Christmas!
This is a feel-good romance between two characters who have both come to crossroads in their lives. Ashleigh is at a standstill between dead-end jobs, the latest one working as an elf at a Christmas village. Olivier, working as a patissier chef in his father’s restaurant, is wondering whether he wants to accept the promotion he has just been offered and indeed whether he even still wants to work in a restaurant at all.
The two have known each other for years as Olivier’s mother lives next door to Ashleigh and her grandmother in Brighton. Olivier has mostly only spent Christmases there and Ash has nursed a crush on him for years but never done anything about it. This year, though, things are different as both of them are doing some introspective examining of their lives. They’re also aided and abetted by a fun side cast of friends and family (Ash’s best friend Romesh and his husband James are particularly delightful) who are well aware Ash and Olivier have been pining over each other in silence for years.
One thing I loved about this is that Olivier is a beta hero. He’s gentle and in touch with his feelings; he’s actually pushed around by his bossy father and has to make the decision to stand up to him and take charge of his own life. Ash is in a slightly different situation but also has to renegotiate boundaries in family relationships as the story progresses.
This is something of a coming of age story for both Olivier and Ash as they both reach significant turning points in their lives and make the decision to move forward together. There was a lot to like about it and I didn’t have any significant nitpicks to make (except Ash making a wedding dress the bride didn’t try on until the day before the wedding, which, yikes for no backup plan). It’s a fun and charming read with some very relatable characters and I’m happy to give it five stars.
Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this title via NetGalley.
Oh this book, such a delight. I am so honored to have gotten to do the cover reveal for you back in September, and now I get to tell you all about it on the official blog tour. I adore Emma Jackson, and I know you will love this one too.
This is your typical “god I need a change in my hum-drum life romance.” We have Ashleigh who lives with her Nan, acting career nonexistent, stuck working as one of Santa’s elves just for a gig, and nothing exciting to look forward to. Then there is Oliver, recently divorced, at a crossroads on deciding whether or not to accept a different job, staying next door with his mother for Christmas. When the two of them meet up, old sparks start to fly and this sweet little romance might just bring them both a the holiday season they never expected.
Who doesn’t love a bit of romance around the Christmas season? This quirky and fun book is just the perfect read to get you ready to start your holiday movie binging. Ashleigh is an extremely relatable character, and is easy to fall in love with, I totally loved her Nan who is also a retired nurse like myself and just made me chuckle. You can’t help but route for Ashleigh and Oliver to finally get together, and this heartwarming and quick read is just perfect for any sweet cozy evening when you are looking for a feel good book. Emma Jackson never disappoints. If you are familiar with some of her other books, don’t be shocked to see some familiar names pop up in this one too! So fun. A great read.
Thank you so much to Emma Jackson, Orion Dash Publishing, and Rachel Gilbey from Rachels Random Resources for my gifted copy of this book for my honest and unbiased opinion.
This is a lively, fun, uplifting festive novel that’ll get you in a lovely Christmassy mood. Just look at that super cover!
Ashleigh is a super character, down to earth and very aware that life is somewhat disappointing but still determined to make the best of things. Playing an elf is better than no job at all, and as challenging as her Nan is, she’s lucky to have family.
Olivier is equally genuine and likeable, and a bit more successful workwise, but perhaps not successful enough as far as his father is concerned. He’s much happier with his chocolatier mum.
We get Ashleigh and Olivier in the same place for this Christmas, and what follows is a thoroughly enjoyable will-they won’t-they with a super seasonal background, lots of fascinating secondary characters and some wonderful chocolatey goodness. It’s all very Christmassy and heart-warming.
This was a cute story with the perfect Christmas vibe that is completely over-the-top but also somehow doesn't feel like it, too. Loved the characterization in this one - the author wrote all her characters so well, they all stood apart and shone in their own way. Loved the level of life detail throughout. Wouldn't have minded more romance in there, but as things stand, it is a beautiful story that is perfect for the holiday season and/or a cold afternoon in front of the fire
This book is just a wonderful Christmas romance. I loved it.
Ash is approaching 30, lives with her Nan (who is not a fan of Christmas) and longs to be an actress. She is currently working at the Christmas Grotto as an elf. She's a fab hand with a needle and thread and has taken on the task of making her best friends wedding dress.
Olivier works in Paris in his father's restaurant and is a Patissier. He is home for Christmas and his mum is neighbours with Ash and her Nan. Olivier was recently divorced and old feelings for Ash begin to surface.
All their mutual friends can see the attraction building but they cant.
This book made my heart swell and skip a beat. It's a beautiful will they wont they story, perfect festive read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
As festive as a mince pie and a glass of eggnog, readers are sure to fall in love with Emma Jackson’s enchanting new novel, One Kiss Before Christmas.
Poor Ashleigh could do with a Christmas miracle at the moment. Life isn’t exactly a bed of roses for her. She had once yearned to tread the boards and wow the world with her talent, but all of her hopes and acting dreams have withered with the only starring role she will be playing in the foreseeable future being one of Santa’s elves. Her living situation isn’t much better as she is still living with her grouchy grandmother who is so miserable she would make Scrooge and the Grinch cry! Ashleigh fears she will be spending the rest of her days trapped in a cycle of misery and unhappiness – until a face from her past unexpectedly comes back in her life.
Ashleigh still has fond memories of summers spent in the company of French boy, Olivier. Only when he comes back into her life, he is not a boy any longer. Olivier is now a handsome French hunk and Ashleigh cannot help but find herself charmed and attracted to the charismatic Frenchman – and it certainly helps that he happens to be the son of the owner of the best chocolate shop in England. Pretty soon, it isn’t just Olivier’s delicious recipes that have turned her head as the more time she spends with him, the more she realises that she is falling head over heels in love with him…
Ashleigh hasn’t felt this alive in years. Olivier has made her realise that there is more to life than worrying about the future and that if she wants to make her heart’s desire a reality, she needs to take a leap of faith and a chance on love. Will a Christmas kiss with Olivier lead to something more? Or is she getting ahead of herself and will end up going back to a dull and boring life on the second of January?
Emma Jackson’s One Kiss Before Christmas is an irresistible romantic comedy that sparkles with humour, charm and holiday magic. A book that will make readers giggle on plenty of occasions, One Kiss Before Christmas delights with characters that leap off the pages, delicious wit, emotional drama and heart-warming romance. Ashleigh is such a lovely heroine and despite the fact that life isn’t exactly going according to plan, readers will relate to her, fall in love with her and cheer her on to get her happy ending. Add some mouth-watering descriptions of chocolate, a gorgeous French hero and plenty of Christmas mischief and it’s the perfect recipe for an irresistible Yuletide romantic comedy.
Fans of Zara Stoneley and Jane Linfoot will not want to miss Emma Jackson’s latest novel, One Kiss Before Christmas.
It might seem a bit late (or a lot early) to be reading a Christmas book in January but since where I live has been fully lacking in snow but full of gloomy, rainy weather, I thought it was the perfect time to tuck into a festive feel-good read and One Kiss Before Christmas by Emma Jackson fit the bill perfectly.
Ashleigh is spending her winter months working as an elf at a local Christmas farm. You can tell straight away she is a little lost in life. She’s struggling for money, struggling in her relationship with her mum and living with her Nan is more stressful than she’d like. Olivier is also at a crossroads in his life. He loves to cook, and working at a restaurant in Paris with his dad should be everything he wants from his career but he never gets to cook the food he likes and ends up spending his time following his dad’s orders whilst sacrificing the things he would actually like to do.
When he returns to Brighton for Christmas, everything changes for Ashleigh. There is history between them, and attraction. I loved getting to know both Ash and Olivier. The story is told in alternating chapters between the two of them and they are both interesting characters who have room to grow throughout the pages of this book and it was really enjoyable to read. I loved the blossoming feelings between the two of them and the will-they-won’t-they feel to the romance. There were so many unspoken words and this kept me reading on eager to see if we could get a happily ever after.
There was plenty of other things to like about this book such as exploring the backdrop of Brighton. The author made this seaside resort seem so enticing. I wanted a walk on the pier. Also enticing was the sound of the chocolate shop ran by Olivier’s mum. This is not a book to be read with an empty stomach. There was a lovely Christmassy feel to this book all the way through. The author built up such a vivid picture of the season with all the lights and decorations. The story isn’t massively festive but just enough to deliver a warm and uplifting atmosphere for the reader.
One of my favourite parts of this book was all the supporting characters and their side stories. There was a good amount of depth to them and seeing their stories explored was almost as entertaining as the main story. As there were a lot of characters, not everything was going to be tied up perfectly, but at the same time, it didn’t need to be either.
One Kiss Before Christmas was a lovely escapist read, a sweet book ideal for a lazy afternoon’s reading curled up in front of the fire.
“One Kiss Before Christmas” is one of those books that makes you look forward to Christmas and also warms your heart with its wonderful romance.
The author has a beautiful knack for romance, and the chemistry between the two characters stands out in the story. Ashleigh is charming, and I thought the author wrote her nicely. It was adorable to see how she interacted with Olivier even though her Nan mistreats her. As the story continues, you see her conflicting feeling for Olivier and the risk she takes even though she knows how her Nan will react. Similarly, even Olivier is dynamic in the role as he tries to find magic in his life again. Olivier goes through a lot of emotions and wonders what the right decision to take is. I liked the scenes that he shares with his friend Bertrand. Even the supporting characters like Romesh and James were adorable.
The author writes the chemistry between Ashleigh and Olivier beautifully. Some of the scenes that stood out for me were when Ashleigh inquires him about his love for cooking or when she helps him out in the chocolate shop display. It was adorable seeing them getting ready for their date and spending time with each other. I also enjoyed the backstory between Ashleigh and Olivier as he remembers wanting to kiss her even early on. Moreover, the author also mentions classic Christmas references like Bing Crosby, the Andrew Sisters, and movie references like Elvis films and “it’s a wonderful life” that gears you for the Christmas mood.
Overall, “One Kiss Before Christmas” is a lovely story that makes you optimistic about romance and also makes you look forward to the Winter Season.
A good festive romance needs protagonists the reader cares about, a highly visual and atmospheric location, food to make your tastebuds tingle and depth beyond the will they/won’t they scenario. This book has all these elements and more.
I connected with Ashleigh at the mention of her elf socks jingling as being an elf was always on my list of dream jobs. If I could not do it in reality, I was going to enjoy it through her, but the more I discovered about her backstory and her usual festive routine, the more I cared and longed for this year to be different. Likewise, I liked Olivier instantly, but the more I learnt about his complex relationship with his family, the more I wanted him to have a happy ever after too. The observations on the effects of family dynamics on someone’s self-worth gave the story depth as did their friendship with Romesh, and Ash’s bond with her Nan. All the characters felt real, adding to the emotional attachment.
The food element came in the form of chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Olivier may have been a French chef but his talent with chocolate and the descriptions of his mother’s chocolate shop made all my senses come to life, and I longed to taste the flavours they discussed. The stash of chocolate I put away for Christmas was raided early because I needed chocolate before I could continue reading.
Brighton is a location that has everything: quirky shops, unique character, the sea and atmosphere in the bucket load. I used to have day trips there as a teenager and longed to return so was in my element visiting The Lanes and seeing the sea without leaving my duvet. It was an ideal setting, but besides the chocolate shop, Ash’s street and their light display will always stand out for me.
There were scenes that made me chuckle, especially involving the transportation of the Christmas tree, and others were pure magic. I could easily see this playing on a screen as an enjoyable, festive favourite.
I participated in a cover reveal for this book a month or so ago, and was so excited to read it. I'm happy to report: Emma Jackson did not disappoint. While it was less Christmassy than the title might reflect, this book was a lovely romance set around the holidays.
From the first moment we encounter Ashleigh at the Baxters' Christmas Farm, where she's working as an elf (baggy leggings, interactive socks, and all) for the fourth year in a row, I was hooked on her story. I found her to be engaging and completely sympathized with her stalled acting career, especially since I'm a performer myself. I confess, a part of me wanted to work at that farm, but that's a digression.
Then there's Olivier, the French chef whose mother just happens to live next door to Ashleigh and her Nan. Olivier is the perfect romance novel specimen, and not only because he can do incredible things with chocolate.
What I loved about this novel was that Jackson's characters are very much ordinary people, They're not millionaires or playboys or models, and their flaws are as compelling as their good points. Ash is a little bit bitter about her life, for example, but in a very plausible and organic way that takes real talent to convey.
I haven't read a lot of Emma Jackson's other works, but I recognized a few characters from other books she's written, and I always find it charming when an author interweaves her stories even if the actual novels can be read as stand-alone pieces.
One "character" that must be mentioned is the setting: Brighton. I've never been there, but thanks to Jackson, I feel as if I've visited, and I really enjoyed the escape.
One Kiss Before Christmas is one book that is the perfect before-Christmas read.
Goes well with: espresso and chocolate croissants.
An advance reading copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley, in return for my honest review.
Written in a dual narrative, One Kiss Before Christmas by Emma Jackson is such a sweet little love story, set in the heart of Brighton at the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas.
Recently divorced, Oliver has travelled from Paris to England to spend Christmas with his mother and decide whether to accept a promotion at his father's restaurant. On arriving back in Brighton he bumps into Ashleigh, the girl next door whom he has wanted to be with since they were teenagers.
Ashleigh is at a turning point in her life, her acting is going nowhere, her only role is playing an elf each year on a farm. Being dumped on her Nan's doorstep at age 11 has left Ashleigh feeling unwanted, even making friends at work seems pointless, they all leave and move on. She has decided to break the news to her celebrity actress mother, she is giving up acting for good, that is when her mother eventually turns up or calls. And she has no idea what she will do next. Arriving home from work, dressed as an elf, Ashleigh comes face to face with a blast from the past, Olivier who hasn't seen in years, not since they had that moment and Ashleigh didn't call.
I really enjoyed this heartwarming story, I particularly loved Ashleigh's Nan, not afraid to speak her mind and be frank with everyone, she reminds me of my own Nana who also had a pair of binoculars.
I have given One Kiss before Christmas 4+ Stars and would definitely recommend it.
One Kiss Before Christmas by Emma Jackson is a sweet holiday read. It follows Ashleigh (Ash) who lives with her Nan in Brighton. Oliver, a French chef, has come home to Brighton to spend the holidays with his mom, a local chocolatier. The two characters have known each other for years, but the timing was never right to take the next step. Since this is a holiday novel, the festive atmosphere takes over a lot of the novel and adds a sweet layer to the story. There is a will-they-won’t-they factor to the romance as each try to navigate their feelings plus everything else going on in their lives.
Ashleigh had a tough family life when she was left to live with her Nan. Not only does she struggle with her relationship with her mom, but she also struggles with money. For the holiday season, she works as an elf at the Christmas Grotto located at a local farm. As her best friend prepares to get married, Ash is tasked with helping to make the wedding dress. As for Oliver, he is recently divorced. Since he works at his dad’s restaurant, he doesn’t get to spread his creativity in the kitchen as much as he wants. The attraction between them is obvious and it is enjoyable reading the two of them transition to the romantic stage. There are a lot of issues for the characters to work through, so it adds to the will-they-won’t-they. It was an interesting story and it played out well on the page. Overall, the story was interesting, and the writing style was great. I look forward to reading more from Jackson in the future.
This is a very sweets romance for this festive season, set to a backdrop of Brighton.
It's not the most Christmassy of books, but its a lovely romance none the less, a real will they, won't they ever get together sort of a thing!
For fans of Emma Jackson's previous books, there are some recurring characters that you will be delighted to see, but if you are new to her don't worry this definitely works as a standalone book.
This is the story of Ashleigh who is currently working as an Elf, at a fabulous sounding Christmas farm, that I would have loved to visit, and her next door neighbour (well when he's visiting his mum), Olivier.
Olivier on this visit home this Christmas, has the opportunity to design the window in his mother's chocolate shop and wow what they can do from chocolate sounds so impressive and tasty.
This was just such a relaxing book to curl up with, and lose yourself within the pages. There are various incredibly amusing moments, and I loved Ashleigh's best friends and just what Romesh was going through.
All in all a really enjoyable story that I had a good time reading.
Thank you to Orion Dash and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This is a light and heart-warming read which follows Ash and Olivier's friendship after Olivier has returned to England for Christmas. There are lots of lovely festive touches as Brighton celebrates and it conjures up a time of family celebrations. Both Ash and Olivier's families have difficult histories and a degree of misunderstanding and estrangement. Olivier's family has been separated in different countries following divorce and Ash's mother has always put her own needs first. They both have to come to terms with their relationships with their parents now they are adults themselves and have to learn to accept the self-centred behaviour of some and acknowledge the love of other family members and friends. Friendship is a major part of the story. Both Ash and Olivier also have to decide what they want their futures to be like and what will actually make them happy. Ash in particular has to learn to put aside the barriers she has put up around her feelings to avoid being let down. This is an ideal read to kick off the festive season. In short: Second chance at love? Thanks to the author for a copy of the book
One Kiss Before Christmas is a feel-good, Christmas romcom that will melt even Scrooge. Ashleigh has been in love with her neighbours son since he first visited his mum 15 years ago, with miles and an ocean between them though she has never dared hope for more than his holiday friendship. Olivier has been visiting his maman in Brighton for 15years, wishing for more with the girl next door. Will these two finally get their Christmas wish? I love a Christmas story, no matter the time of year, there is just something so special about them that makes you feel good and never fails to cheer me up. There was some really funny moments in this book, some moments that had me in tears but most of all it made me happy. Yes some may say that books of this genre are predictable or easy reads but I don't think that gives them enough credit. These types of books are meant to bring a smile to your face when there might not be much reason to elsewhere. They certainly do that and for that reason I think books like this are the best books of all.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review thanks to Orion Books and Netgalley.
This book alternates between Olivier and Ashleigh. Whilst it is set at Christmas, the Christmas theme is light so this book could be read at any time of year.
I found this to be a relaxing read to curl up with after a tough day at work. There are amusing moments throughout this story; usually because Ashleigh’s nan is speaking her mind.
I would like to see a sequel to this book.
Rating: 4/5
A feel-good Christmas novel, great for curling up with.
Who doesn't love a Christmas book. I read them throughout the year just to try and bring back that feeling of Christmas cheer. This book was perfect for that, it is a lovely heartwarming read.
Not only does this book centre around Christmas but it is also a book about second chances, friendship and hope. Ashley and Olivier are both at cross roads in their lives for different reasons. Ashley dreams of becoming an actress but at the moment is making money as one of Santas elves and living with her Nan, as far away from her dream as she can get. Olivier has just returned from Paris where he works in his Father restaurant as a Patissier. After a divorce he has come to spend Christmas was his Mum. As the season to be joyous comes around the pair start to remember the old long forgotten feelings they had for each other and love begins to blossom.
An advance reading copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley, in return for my honest review.
Cute romance novel with Ashleigh, who's most recent job is being an elf at a Christmas farm, trying to avoid embarrassing herself and giving away that she's always had a crush since teenage years on gorgeous french Olivier whose mum lives next door and is back for Christmas.
Olivier's trying to decide whether he wants promotion in Paris, to continue working with his dad, while enjoying Christmas events and making memories with Ashleigh and her friends, and making chocolate displays for his mum's shop.
Ashleigh's trying to work out where she stands with her nan who she lives with, how to get away with celebrating Christmas more openly at home, and whether she wants to risk breaking her heart when Olivier goes back to Paris.
A lovely Christmas themed love story, with all the pretty descriptions of Brighton's Christmas events and displays. I loved all the characters in this book, and it's a good read in the run up to Christmas.
I would firstly like to thank Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.
This book make a refreshing, festive change from my usual crime reads. After a very depressingly difficult year, a Christmas love story is exactly what I want to read right now. And I definitely wasn't disappointed. Like all soppy festive romances, I've guessed the ending before I've finished the first page, but I don't care, I enjoyed it! Ash and Olivier were two characters I instantly rooted for, a pairing that was destined to be. And I just loved Ash's nan! We can't have a Christmas story without a Grinch! With plenty of fascinating elements to the story - I.e: the chocolate shop, and the elfy puns, a believable romance, brilliant characters and enough warmth to get me through this holiday season; this book is definitely a must-read!
When Emma Jackson set up her Winter Warmer challenge to read Christmas books over November, with a read along of sorts on the 29th, I thought what better book to start with?!
From the start I was very much taken with this book, where we follow Ash, who has been working as an elf in a santa’s grotto, also meeting Olivier, who has returned from France, from a thankless job as a chef with his tough – love delivering father.
Ash and Olivier have a past together and I loved unfurling their story. The romance here is beautiful, and has everything a Christmas story should have, with so much sparkle and twinkle. The side stories and side characters, Ash’s man, and Oliver’s maman, were lovely, as were the resolutions.
All in all, I loved this book and can’t wait for more winter Warmers!
Easy to read romance with likeable characters. Ashleigh lives with her gran in Brighton, while being ignored by her actress mother living in the US. Olivier grew up living next door till he moved to Paris to work in his dads Michelin star restaurant only visiting his mother every christmas.
Ashleigh hes been in love with Olivier since childhood without telling him, on his recent visit does she declare her love to him, scared of being rejected and having a long distance relationship, will it work and will she get that one kiss before christmas. Olivier has been in love with Ashleigh since childhood will he finally tell her! Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Set against the backdrop of Paris and the wonderful seaside town of Brighton I loved this book!
The detail to the places visited was amazing and really bought the location to life, we love visiting Brighton and it homes our favourite Sealife Centre which is affectionately referred to in this story.
Olivier has returned to see his Maman for Christmas and is expecting to actually get a few days rest. Whilst Ashleigh is donning her elf costume again as she works in the lead up to Christmas.
A romantic festive read full of laughter and fun with some tears sprinkled like confetti amongst the pages. I loved this story from beginning to end and was so disappointed when real life got in the way and I had to put my book down.
One Kiss Before Christmas made a refreshing, festive change from my usual thriller reads.
