In a colorful world populated with people who can bring to life drawings and make them their companions, there is a young man who struggles to find his element. Having reached adulthood, he is on a trip to the Ukiyo Kingdom on recommendation of his mentor. In a land far apart in culture and distance from his hometown of Aquarelle in the Quill Kingdom, this young man will soon realize the impact of this trip that will forever change his life. This man is Benjamin Huldigen. In this world, there are people who have companion creatures born from their drawings. These people are known as Penaé. The Penaé and his companion creature are one. While these creatures are unable to speak on their own, they are able to communicate with their Penaé through nonverbal gestures. Penaé are held in high regard all around the world. In the Quill Kingdom, there is a specialized division known as Quill Knights. These Quill Knights, though a military division, are the most influential during peacetime, where they travel the kingdom to assist the citizenry. These Quill Knights, as they ascend in rank, form the backbone of the Quill Kingdom in their political influence and their impact on society.
I specialize in teaching high school mathematics and have been employed as a teacher since 2008. In a way, Algebra is my backyard. (You know, with factor trees above ground and square roots below ground. *ba-dum tsh!*) But what I love to teach more than math is confidence and value based on the Word of God.
I have been writing stories since 2006. It began as a way of escape in a few ways, but after finishing my first story, I continued writing. I got involved with working with story characters both original and borrowed and began to create stories for them. In 2013, I looked back on one of my works and, after reading the page count, I came to the realization that I ought to try my hand at doing stories to publish. I wanted to write about all the story characters I had created up to that point. However, I wanted to put in a common thread. Thus, The Story Guardian was born. Of course, this is not the only work I am doing. There are many more, and I will talk about them in my blogs.
Some of you may ask about the unusual third title. Well, this ties into my faith. I did the salvation prayer in 3rd grade, and I did have some measure of faith leading up to my adulthood. At 2012, I suffered from serious depression for various reasons. The most problematic issue of that year, though, was my bitterness with God. By the end of 2012, I was almost at the point where I wanted nothing to do with Him. But I made a most critical decision to wipe the slate clean. I Recommitted my life to Christ (yes, capital "R") on December 3rd, 2012. That was the day my life changed forever. So, how does this tie in to being a spirit warrior? Well, I adopted the title from my first story. I define a spirit warrior as a Christian who utilizes the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the weapons of the enemy. I might not wear the armor, hold the sword, or fly around, but I am still a spirit warrior. And part of my passion is to go out and find more spirit warriors who will stand above their circumstances and become more than overcomers.
A very imaginative world for an honorable hero’s journey. While I found the plot lacking high stakes or major difficulty to overcome resulting in relatability issues, I enjoyed the Japanese customs mapped over this fictional setting.
