An orphaned boy, uncontrollable magic, and a destiny to recover a nation’s honor.
Ren survived life at an orphanage, but the world taught him some hash lessons.
His aspiration to become a sorcerer looked brighter, until he found himself in a crate. With his magic unreliable, Ren must learn to rely on others.
But, in a world of thieves and cutthroats, how will he see the truth behind their masks?
Will Ren learn to master his mind, control his magic, and follow his destiny?
Or will his naivety doom him and the world? _______________________
Ocean’s Dagger is the second book in the Chronicles of the Seventh Realm, an epic fantasy series comprised of bite sized epics. Ren may be the “chosen one”, but Chronicles of the Seventh Realm is a sprawling series of characters with many tales to explore. This is the second book of Ren’s Tale. You can start at the beginning with Orphan’s Price.
Nicholi (N A K Baldron) is the international best-selling author of the Chronicles of the Seventh Realm, where Science, Magic, and Two Worlds Collide.
He lives in a small town outside of Austin, Texas with his life partner Sabetha Danes and their daughter whom they homeschool. After years of living in the city with the big house, they chose to downsize to their tiny house and dedicate their lives to art. Their long-term goal is to live on a sailboat and see the world.
Really enjoying following Ren as he tries to make his way in the world. I read the tale in a 3 book set but I'm pretty sure we meet Shaya in book 2 and she is just the best! She and Akio totally deserve their own set of books! It was incredibly interesting to get to learn about Sapphire Nation through the different stories of the characters. Every one of them has such a unique perspective!
We find Ren in the Sapphire Nation awaiting his examination to see if he'll be accepted into the Amethyst Nation. He becomes curious about the new country and culture around he finds himself, and ends up getting into so r trouble while sightseeing. Lucky for him he meets Shaya who senses his sorcery abilities, and is hoping they can work together. Shaya and her first sworn Akio place him under their honor to be sure no harm comes to him. Even with that he finds himself in an impossible position. I'm also loving the way Brandon is working back in the Pearl Nation to help right some wrongs that have recently transpired. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series. I would recommend this book
I love Nak Baldron's characters and storytelling! The second book introduces two new people, a girl who must become the new clan leader and her young champion. I got so caught up in Shaya and Akio's characters that I went on to read Salt and Steel that tells Akio's story!
Ren is totally out of his element in the Sapphire Nation, but I'm looking forward to watching him grow and become a formidable force. In this book his magic doesn't get used. Perhaps he should have had some time to practice, even if only in his room. Brandon, on the other hand, gets to shine in his own way back in the Pearl Nation. I can't wait to find out what happens in Book 3!
This book needs to go through another proofread to catch those little typos, but otherwise, it was another well constructed story.
Extremely entertaining sequel. I found myself immersed in the story and can’t wait for the next book. This is a new author to me and I found the book very engaging. Even if I hadn’t liked the book ( which I did) I learnt a valuable lesson. NOT to play poker!! You’ll have to read the book to find out what I mean. Not a lot of magic in this one but , as I say, a very enjoyable book indeed.
Interesting continuation of Rens story. We also have a bit of extra knowledge on Brandon who is still on Pearl Nation attempting to help Rens current predicament from the previous story. While Ren has travels the seas and is on Emerald Nation shores learning he’s very far from home and nothing is the same as it is at home.
Further building upon Ren's Tale, Ocean's Dagger expands on existing characters and introduces many more exciting ones and their perspectives on the Tale. Ren finds himself in the Sapphire Nation, which is built upon clans, honor and a completely different perspective of life than he is used to.
Ren makes his way to the Sapphire nation to be tested and once he arrives tries to get settled. Brandon is up to something back in the Pearl Nation. Shaya helps Ren out of one sticky situation and possibly into another. I really enjoyed this one, and love what Brandon does! I can't wait to see what Ren and the others get up to in the next book.
very good Ren sets sail to the Sapphire Nation to see the Amethyst Examiners and take the test to become a sorcerer. When he arrives he finds a very different culture than that of Pearl Nation. He meets up with "Kaito-Tanken Shaya, a leader of one of the seven Thief Lord clans and joins their group.. Meanwhile, Brandon, his magic instructor, is planning to increase his fortune by buying stock in Pearl Power whose prototype is missing and the price of its shares are falling rapidly. He is successful finding the prototype and succeeds in having the CEO removed from the company.
Ren gets an up close and personal encounter with the Bloody Square. Betrayal, honor, and debts surround him. While Ten is away his mentor raises the stakes.
Ren's Tale drew me in from the first sentence. I love the use of prologues. The characters are well thought out and the action is not forced anywhere. Emotions are spot on for everyone in each scenario. I truly can't wait for the next installment of Ren's Tale. Off to read Akio's!
DNF 29%, just way too weird, juvenile and not very interesting. There was so much promise from the first book too. Maybe this would work for preteens? Definitely not worth my time or money.
