Ascend is the second gripping instalment in this bestselling paranormal romance murder mystery series. It's a modern-day love story that's more Grimm than Disney. If singing mice and dancing crabs are what you were looking for, this is not the series for you. Seances, time travel and torture however, if that's your thing, you just might fit right in. Twilight vibes with a splash of horror and some ghost hunting. Perfect for your next young adult low-fantasy read.

After loving the first book, I was truly delighted to win an audio version of the second book in this series. It didn’t disappoint either! I thought I might miss the physical turning of pages, however, this book is written so effectively, with rich language that paints a detailed scene in your mind, and enticing characters that you easily invest in, combined with humorous parts, that I was soon fully lost within the story. It starts where we have been left off - Grace is done with school and enters the working world after reuniting with Beau. Beau's abilities and follow him from time to time in the story and how he interacts with spirits. The love between Grace and Beau appears unbreakable .. Through the paranormal , Grave navigates her way, but stumbles upon an unknown investigation A particular spirit haunts her, beckoning for help. Seeking help from Gwen, the two uncover more about the evil Glen from Awoken. Is there more to his killing spree? This series is addictive I need to read the final book of this series! If you like paranormal with romance- this book is a must read. It’s Fantastic!
Grace had been beaten and left for dead. That was what it took, along with a warning from the beyond, to get Beau back into her life. But even the sweetest reunions are haunted by secrets. Unsure if she can trust him to stay, especially knowing what she does, she resolves her self to silence, but she should have learnt her lesson. Silence can be damning, especially when there are those who want to be heard. Can Grace do what must be done and find a way to hold on to the one person who completes her, or will this new challenge tear them and her sanity apart?
Ascend by Billie Jade Kermack is the second instalment in the Shadowed Veil series. This paranormal Romance will have you on the edge of your seats as you try to uncover the mystery and danger haunting Grace. Her life with Beau is a blessing, he is the only thing that feels right with her world, especially when dark forces from beyond the grave are intent on torturing her as they bend her to their will. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Grace and Beau, it is both bitter and sweet at times. Smoothly written with interesting twists and a healthy dose of intrigue you'll be whisked along on a journey of danger, discovery, and intrigue.
This books picks up where it left off! Grace is done with school and enters the working world after reuniting with Beau. We get a little more insight into Beau’s abilities and follow him from time to time in the story. It’s really cool to see how he interacts with spirits. The love between Grace and Beau is unbreakable this time. Or is it?
Grace navigates through the paranormal as she stumbles upon an investigation that she eventually learns she is connected to. A particular spirit haunts her, beckoning for help. Seeking help from Gwen, the two uncover more about the evil Glen from Awoken. Is there more to his killing spree?
This series is just bloody fantastic! Billie Jade Kermack is an amazing writer and I cannot wait to read the final book of this series! If you like paranormal investigations, this book is for you! It reminds me of The Sixth Sense but with romance. I have yet to change my personal perspective on ghosts, however, as I cannot help but to see them as disembodied freeloaders who bully the living.
I raved over book one, ignored my TBR pile and got book 2, Ascend, straight away. I was not disappointed.
Difficult to give a synopsis without spoilers but I was pleased that there were more characters, we got to know about those characters and the feelings of the main characters were drawn so well that you end this novel knowing them a whole lot better.
Towards the end of this novel I had memories of the Dennis Wheatley books I read as a teenager. I think it fair to say that the last quarter of the book was written so well that it took me in with all its troubles and I believed I was Grace and felt her every emotion, fear and anxiety.
A powerful ending that makes you have to get book three. I can't recommend this trilogy enough. Well done Billie Jade.
Ascend I was so excited to read this book, and after reading Awoken I was prepared for beautifully descriptive writing. I was transported into the book, the author has a way of captivating you and creates wonderful new twists and turns. I feel very invested in the MC and her relationship, I want her to be happy. This book is exciting and emotional, relatable and entertaining. In this book we follow the MC journey and rollercoaster of a life, with new problems popping up left, right and centre. The story is so detailed and well planned, you can’t help but feel part of it. I am invested, I need to know what happens next!!!!! I can’t wait for the next book in this series, I am going to ponder what I have read for a long while.
Ascend was a great read, with a strong paranormal theme it is good to follow The trials and tribulations Grace has to face she thought she had lost Beau. He returns to her life as do many spirits. She asks herself questions and keeps being drawn to Beau. Grace wants to break from her mundane life and perhaps the wish will haunt her, as she finds herself having to piece together a murder case with Beau, one thing they have in common outside their love is the ability to communicate with the dead. A really well written book, I have read the books out of order but I will certainly look for the prequel
Another fantastic book was written by this author! I love how it has a paranormal romance genre to this series. It is what got me hooked! Something that has always gotten me is when books have many twists that you are on the edge of your seat. On wanting to know what will happen next. This book is so what made me do that for sure. The formatting was perfect, and make it easy to read without no problem at all. Book 1 was awesome, and this one is better! I do hope there will be the 3rd book. I will so read it to have read all of them!
I read the first book, and dove into the second desperate to know what is next for Grace and Beau, and man was I in for a ride. I loved the character arcs, the world building, the bits and pieces shared that allowed us to know more about both the characters and the challenges they face. I was hooked and ended up reading it all in one sitting. The ending almost killed me, and so I’m going to have to read book three because I have a need to know what happens next. Very much enjoyed and loved, and recommended to those who love paranormal fiction.
A very talented writer. This book had excellent character development, especially of the main character Grace. The story kept me interested throughout, wanting to know why a tortured spirit who had been murdered many years before was visiting Grace, and what her story was. The ending was surprising and unpredictable. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This is Part 2 of Grace’s story. It continues to keep you in the edge of your seat. The characters continue to grow from Book 1 and leaves you hanging for the 3rd segment in the series, I love the way the author ignites this story to the point where you feel as if you are experiencing it firsthand. Very emotional romance and excellent writing, the story stays with you as you wait for the final chapter of the story….
Ascend was suggested to me as a terrific paranormal romance. It had enough twists and turns to keep me on my toes and was a thumping great read. I didn’t realise it was book 2 in a series as the story was gripped me from the beginning but now that I know Im going to have to grab the first one for the back story. Waiting impatiently for book 3.
ASCEND (SHADOWED VEIL by BILLIE JADE KERMACK) is an exceptionally enjoyable read. The characters are dominant and real; dynamic and credible. The narrative is on par and the plot has a rich texture and is well thought out with enough twists to keep things interesting and the reader turning pages. And no, I’m not giving anything away to spoil the read. A great read worth 5 stars and more.
Reunited with her soulmate Beau, Grace discovered her ability to communicate with tortured spirit as she embarked on a quest to solve a murder case.
The author moved the story along with emotion-filled narratives. I enjoy the healthy dose of twist and turns with some very well done steamy scenes in the mix.
WOW!!! I haven’t read a book this quick in quiet awhile. I love Grace and Beau together, they are such a great match. My heart broke for Grace with Beau gone. There were so many twists in this book I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next. I CAN NOT wait for the 3rd book. Billie does not disappoint!
This book was as good or better that the first one!! Grace and Beau keep having encounters with spirits, but this time Grace might have outdone herself. The cliffhanger was really good!! Diving in book #3 ASAP
I am absolutely loving this series so much. I cannot wait to read the next part and discover what happens next. This book kept me interested the whole time and I am enjoying the storyline so much.
4.25 stars. As with Awoken, there is a quite unique and interesting blend of sweet, young romance with the backdrop of dark, ominous foreboding. As the mystery of the spirit Gracie continues to be haunted by unfolds, the foreboding deepens, culminating into an ending that leaves you on the edge of your seat. What you think might predictably happen throughout is tossed on its ear and keeps you on your toes. There’s a quite interesting and unexpected switch up of POV at one point, which brings even more questions to the surface, and I’m on pins and needles wondering what it means, and with that heartbreaking ending, where do we go from here.
The narration is very well done, full of nuance and emotion, pulling you even deeper into the story. You can hear every smile, as well as all the terror and sadness, being pulled from the words.
