Gale B'nelan tried a relationship once, and it completely ruined his life. Three little words, and Gale had to flee his homeland, leaving behind everything he knew. He barely escaped with his body intact. Now, battling loneliness and adjusting to life in a different country, all he wants to do is play with the pretties at the kink club, but no one will let him.

Then Rick Ludlow comes along and makes that happen.

Rick knows Gale is all wrong for his lifestyle--Gale is hardly boy material--but Rick can't resist taking care of Gale and giving him what he wants.

Until three little words threaten to ruin everything all over again.

G.R. Lyons

G.R. Lyons stumbled into writing as a form of trauma recovery when traditional therapy wasn't working.

Then the story ideas just kept on coming.

Pulling from a vivid imagination as well as real-life experience as a trans man, a sexual assault survivor, and a person living with mental illness, Lyons has written multiple, interconnected series set within his fictional world of the Shifting Isles.

When not writing, Lyons can be found belly dancing around the house, studying anarcho-capitalist philosophy, buried in his never-ending TBR pile, or working out at the local CrossFit gym.

The first half is messy and the second half is cute. **2.5 Stars**

Firstly, while I am fascinated by this author's universe, this story requires a lot more background understanding of the differences between some of the Isles (specifically Agoran and Erostil) before really understanding half of the commentary. Otherwise, these portions are simply confusing.

Secondly, the unique struggle of writing a neurodivergent character is in making them more than just their neurodivergence. Gale came off as more spastic than empathetic, and barely develops in this short read. As I reader, I could tell that there is more to him with his hedonistic outlook and varied talents, but I feel that we as the reader never get to see it from Gale's perspective of how he sees the world. In fact, the vast majority of Gale's POV seems to focus on his exterior mannerisms than his internal processes. The few times we tap into his brain are either short and cut off or during major meltdowns.

Not only Gale, but Rick's POV also felt messy as well as distracting since he takes over this book. Rick is our confused yet invested protagonist with the role of leading dialogue that explains the cultural differences and strange happenings to us the reader. While he serves that purpose quite effectively by being the only person that really asks Gale's opinion on anything (not even the brother Ethan or his parents really try and see Gale's perspective), I'm not particularly attached to Rick otherwise.

Apart from that, the world is interesting, the sex is hot, and the instalove is cute. My curiosity for Gale's story kept me going, but I came away from this addition slightly disappointed.

Loved it. Was excited to finally read this one. These two were so sweet together and I was happy to see Gale got his happy ending. I found his whole background story interesting and heartbreaking. There are things that bothered me at first about how Gale was but I feel like his character got better in this book and he found just the right guy he needed to help keep him grounded and happy. I always enjoy this Author's writing and how real he makes his characters feel when you read them.

So amazing!

This world is so complex. And there is such a diverse mix of characters. My heart went out to Gale and I’m so glad we got his story. Rick and him are perfect for each other. Especially after what they both have been through. What is really moving about this series is how understanding and forgiving the characters are.

A change in sex is always good but Daddy likes it better with his boy inside him. Whatever works for them And a HEA is always a bonus...
