Introduces kids to the concept of mixing two colors to make a new color as a blue spot travels along the pages of this interactive picture book with simple text and bold illustrations.
This book has a simple premise but it’s a very unique and creative effort. The educational aspect exists (blue and yellow make green) but mostly it’s just entertaining. It’s an interactive spot that the reader helps on its quest. The illustrations and story are cute and inspired. The author/illustrator studied art at a university, and the author blurb says he works as an illustrator and designer but wants to write & illustrate children’s picture books full time. I hope that he gets his wish.
Wonderful; nothing really groundbreaking in its interactive aspect, but the mix between this playfulness and the pretty, simple rhyming text is very strong. Mr Holwitz is a lovely poet.
I liked the different and unique perspective of interacting with a book. The illustration is key to telling the story. And it makes you think about reading a book differently by having you move it while the illustrations follow along with your movement (i.e. tipping the book slightly to the right so the blue dot drips). Good use of colors. Talk about mixing colors (blue and yellow make green).
I enjoyed the book most certainly, but I don't think it is one that I want to have in my classroom simply because it is kind of dull. I agree that the book is interactive, and there is great rhyming, but I don't think I would be the one presenting this in my class based on the "dullness" I feel about it.
The Big Blue Spot is a silly book about a blue spot who is tired of being all alone in a book. The illustrations are watercolors and show the spot moving throughout the pages. This story touches on topics of friendship and perseverance and could be used to discuss those topics in a classroom.
This is a super cute book. It will allow the student reading it to get involved and very curious. I haven't read a book like this before. I would read this to younger children.
