The Beach House Hotel, the seaside mansion Ann Rutherford and Rhonda DelMonte converted to an upscale boutique hotel, continues to be a success. Not only is it the spot for breakfast and lunch, it’s become the “IN place” for dinner. However, they still face many challenges. With the sudden death of Robert and Kandie, Ann and Vaughn decide to raise their son, Robbie, to help relieve Ann’s daughter, Liz, of the responsibility she thought she’d never have. And Rhonda becomes both a mother and grandmother. But the hotel is their baby—their pride and joy—even as they recognize the need to hire a general manager when their own families grow in ways they never expected. Then, Vaughn’s plane is lost on a fishing trip in Alaska, and Ann is devastated to think she might lose him. When investors want to buy the hotel, Ann and Rhonda are faced with even bigger decisions. But they know, no matter what they choose, their love and friendship will endure.
Judith Keim, A USA Today Best Selling Author, is a hybrid author who both has a publisher and self-publishes. Ms. Keim writes heart-warming novels about women who face unexpected challenges, meet them with strength, and find love and happiness along the way, stories with heart. Her best-selling books are based, in part, on many of the places she's lived or visited and on the interesting people that she's met, creating believable characters and realistic settings her many loyal readers love.
She enjoyed her childhood and young-adult years in Elmira, New York, and now makes her home in Boise, Idaho, with her husband and their two dachshunds, Kacy and Wally, and other members of her family.
While growing up, she was drawn to the idea of writing stories from a young age. Books were always present, being read, ready to go back to the library, or about to be discovered. All in her family shared information from the books in general conversation, giving them a wealth of knowledge and vivid imaginations.
Ms. Keim loves to hear from her readers and appreciates their enthusiasm for her stories.
Book 3 and we finally get the wedding. I enjoyed the addition of Robbie and Bernie. I will say one part of the book really angered me and that was when Bernie gave away Trudy. You just don’t do that and as a dog lover I really struggled with that part of the story line. Ann could have just as easily gotten her own dachshund and it could have been great friend with Trudy. As you can see I had a hard time getting past that part.
I am sorry to see this series end, but I enjoyed reading all three books. Each stands alone but supporting characters reappear in each book. Judith Keim makes all the characters and situations very believable.
Judith Keim writes a really good story and it endured over 3 books.
The problem I have with Dinner at The Beach House Hotel and the two preceding it is that they are just too repetitive. It's like they told her she must have a certain number of words and she fills the story with the same words over and over and over from book one and how lost Ann was all the way to this book with how much Robbie needed her and how in love she is with Vaughn. It's not that it's over the top mushy, although it sometimes is, it's just too much of the same mush that became nauseating. I almost suspect she wrote one book which was then expanded to three with repetitive filler words. In any case, her editor and her publisher did not serve her ability to tell a good story very well.
That said, I enjoyed the story of the three book series. They are 3 hour books- yes, you can read them in 3 hours, however I haven't decided if I'm going to give the "Salty Key Inn" series a try.
3.5 stars for Dinner at The Beach House Hotel ZERO stars for her publisher and her terrible editor.
Rhonda and Ann own the The Beach House Hotel. It is an upscale hotel boutique. It has a French chef, some private suites, and is known for privacy. Ann is divorced. Her ex ran the business they started into the ground, and used money put aside for their daughter Liz's college education to build a house for his new wife. Rhonda has recently married, and now realizes she's pregnant. And, Ann has met Vaughn, an actor in a soap opera show who is widowed, and very attracted to her. As they all are working, and thinking about their futures, Ann''s daughter Liz calls from Boston very upset. Ann's ex-husband and his young wife were killed in an auto accident, leaving their 2 year old son an orphan. And, Robert had talked Liz into signing papers that she would raise little Robbie if they were killed. Liz is in her junior year of college. She brings Robbie to Florida, asking her mother for help. How can she go to college and care for a two year old? What will Ann's boyfriend think about this child? Interesting story.
This series works well as a light read. Each conflict is resolved quickly, reducing the suspense, but then another mini-conflict will arise to keep the reader going. So far, the first book was the only one that had ongoing dilemmas with the ex-husband and jealous neighbor playing the part of villains, but I feel like I really know the characters now and want to keep on reading about them and their lives. I'm not sure how I feel about the main premise of the book, with the ex-husband's son, Robbie, and what develops there (no spoilers!), but as often happens in fiction, characters don't necessarily do what the reader wants them to do!
At this point, having read the first three books of this series, I would put Judith Keim in the same category as Debbie Macomber, as a go-to author for enjoyable, light reads.
One book left, the Christmas installment, and I'm looking forward to reading it next. It'll be Christmas in July!
Story is a continuation of “Lunch at….” Highlights are: Rhonda has a baby; Bernie is hired as hotel manager; Ann’s ex-husband, Robert and new wife Candy are killed in an auto accident and leave little Robbie to Liz, his 20-yr. old daughter who is still in college; Ann & Vaughn adopt Robbie and Bernie’s dachshund, Trudy; Vaughn goes on a fishing trip to Alaska and the plane goes down. He survives, but the other two friends do not; a big company wants to buy the Hotel and Ann and Rhonda are contemplating it; Rhonda gets pregnant again; and Ann & Vaugn get married at the Hotel. Either I’m getting tired of everything and everyone being perfect or this book didn’t grab me as much as the first two did.

Life is moving along for Ann and Rhonda and the staff at the Beach House Hotel in this third book in the series. The characters are well developed with strong personalities.
Their lives become hectic after the birth of Rhonda’s baby and the death of Ann’s ex husband. Suddenly Ann’s daughter Liz becomes Mom to two year old Robbie.
The duo decide they need a general manager to give them more time with their families. Each woman struggles to balance working with family.
Out of the blue comes an offer to purchase the hotel. Ann and Rhonda struggle with the decide to part with their ‘baby’ the hotel.
This is the second in a series of the Beach House Hotel books. I wanted to read it because I enjoyed the first book a lot. Rhonda was pregnant at the end of that book and I wanted to see if the baby was a boy or girl. As I kept reading, the book just got a little too "Pollyanna" and sappy for me. Everyone was so happy, all the children of Vaughn and Ann got along so well, they were all engaged at the same time, and Vaughn was in a plane crash that, of course, he was the only one to survive. And every time Ann mentioned her fiancé Vaughn, she had to note how in love they were. It was just a little too much for me. I think this is the last book in the series for me.

How many times can I say I love this series? I love how the characters developed over time. I even love how the few characters I didn't like evolved as well. These characters have come to be like friends. The ones that really impact me are: Annie, Rhonda, Liz, Robbie, Vaughn, Bernie and Trudy. I keep thinking I am going to be good and then my eyes tear up. I have been entertaining a thought regarding Annie's ex husband. I want to see if I am wrong by the end of the series. Well, on to Christmas at the Beach House Hotel!
It is so hard to give a review about a book that doesn't ruin it for the next reader. There is so much I want to say about certain parts of the book but can't really reveal without revealing the plot twists. The mark of a good writer is making the characters seem real. During one upsetting part I actually felt sick. I had to remind myself they were characters in a book and not real. Please give this series a try. Good writing and likeable characters. Remember to start with book one so all makes sense to you.
Dinner At The Beach House Hotel by Judith Keim can be summed up in a few words - it was a fantastic easy to read summer beach story that I absolutely loved. Ann and Rhonda are back and in addition to being swamped with day to day activities of the hotel, their lives are flooded with tragedy, babies, a plane crash, weddings, love and romance. Through it all, this is a heartwarming, delightful story and, in my opinion, I can’t recommend reading it highly enough. I rated it a five.
This series about two women approaching middle age who pool their knowledge and finances to build and run the perfect boutique hotel. Small with an exclusive clientele, they prove that women can do anything. In this installment Ann adopts her exes toddler and just about everyone is pregnant, has a baby, gets engaged, etc., so lots of happy endings. A perfect book to keep me entertained.
I have really loved this series. I worked in the hotel industry and it has a soft spot in my heart, but everything is fun about this book, with the character development and the setting and she always keeps you engaged until the end. I found her through Amazon and have downloaded a few from my library, hope to ready more soon!
I loved this book. I honestly didn't expect much from this series when I first started it but I have grown to love the characters and I took a break before reading this book and couldn't wait to get back to it to find out what happens with Ann and Rhonda. This book I think has been my favorite of the series with all that happened.
Once again, the twist and turns are there. The story is interesting and I’m excited to read the last in the series. I didn’t realize I had read another series by this author and in my notes I wrote excellent. So happy to be enjoying another series by her. I look forward to reading other series by her since she’s a very interesting writer.
The third installment in this series brings high drama. What I equal parts love and hate about these stories is how fast they move. The storylines aren't taken very far, and things are resolved quickly. I do enjoy the fast pace, but wish they were more developed. Easy quick read, and I did enjoy furthering Ann's story line.
I have read all of the Beach House house Hotel books and this one was my favorite! It left me on the edge of my seat waiting for to see what WA going to happen next and I couldn't put it down! I think k I finished this one in record time because of the excellent writing.
This is my PERSONAL opinion. We chose NOT to have kids and there was just too much about babies in this one. I also felt that what happened with Vaughn was predictable. That's why I brought the rating down on this book in the series, but it isn't fair to go under 4 stars because of my opinion of kids. I do plan to continue the series as I have very much enjoyed the other books.
Ann and her friend Rhonda run a hotel that fast proves popular for both tourists and locals. Ann meets one of the guests, a television soap star and they hit it off. Her ex and his new wife die in a car crash so she is left to raise baby Robbie as her daughter needs to finish her schooling. Romances plenty and lots of weddings planned. Enjoyable read
Judith Keim “Beach House hotel” series is one that I just stumbled on through Audible. It has been l like watching a series! Where you can’t wait for the next episode. Really enjoyed the story line and can’t help getting into the next book. Currently on Book 5. It’s an easy and enjoyable story of two women who are determined and positively impact lives of many around them. Love. Life. Humanity.
"Dinner at the Beach House Hotel" so far is my favorite. Ms. Keim really knows how to write a story. This was so good that I did not want to put it down. Her storytelling is by far one of the best I have ever read. I hope everyone that reads this review will pick up these books by her and really enjoy them. I know I have. Linda S.
i am so sorry to see this series end - but all good things must come to an end and in this 3rd book of the series all ends were tied up so that the reader was not left dangling. LOVED all three books - Thank you so much Judith Keim for three great books!
I recommend the whole series at "The Beach House Hotel" for its thread of friendships, enduring love, romance, and running an exquisite hotel with all its challenges and struggles.
Shoot me now! I couldn’t stop myself from reading the first three of these even though the writing was execrable. Being a big fan of Wendy Wax’s “Ten Beach Road” series, I was hoping this series would be similar. The premise was; the writing, not even close!
You have to read the whole series! I couldn't stop once I started! I'm impressed with the whole series and I hope you will be too. It is a great read for anyone looking for something to get lost in!
I really enjoyed the first 2 books but I think unfortunately it’s just more of the same and the stories are quite flat. I enjoy the light heartedness of the books, but just too predictable. I’ll stop at this one
Loved every minute of this book. Couldn't put it down except to grab another tissue. There was so many sad tears and happy tears that I could hardly wait to turn the pages. Looking forward to the next book.
This is such a thought provoking series that I cannot get enough. Great characters and believable situations abound! One should not miss this series from a great author. Get it now!
Changes, family growth, trauma of various types, keeps one rapidly turning pages to sed what happens next. Read Dinner at The Beach House Hotel for an experience you won't regret.
