In the summer of 2017, I read A Vampire's Seduction by Fleur Camacho. I gave it 4 stars. There were parts of it that were very good (and memorable), despite some plot holes. When I started reading this book, I wondered why it felt so familiar to me. The more I read A Vampire Obsession, the more convinced I became that this was the same story. I really like Ava Mason’s writing so I was having trouble wrapping my head around the possibility of plagiarism. I couldn’t imagine it, and this was compounded by the fact that this book was almost identical to the one I had already read. Surely, a plagiarist would go to greater efforts to conceal her actions. The only thing to do was to email Ava to ask, and I was relieved to find out that she wrote A Vampire’s Seduction under the name of Fleur Camacho. That helped to explain why I haven’t seen any follow up books in the series since reading A Vampire’s Possession (book 2).
I don’t know whether my standards have changed (it would make sense that they have), but I was disappointed in this rewrite. I didn’t like Detrand at all and I found the instant connection between him and Adelade a little hard to fathom. The dominant-submissive twist to their story was a turn-off for me. I understand that the strigoi are a sensual/sexual species, but the ease with which a virginal young woman (a human in, I’m guessing, the 1800s) adjusted and reveled in Detrand’s over-the-top sexual proclivities made it impossible for me to suspend my disbelief. I found myself slogging through the sex scenes, which I did not find vaguely erotic. I don’t think I’m a prude, but as I read this book, I found myself questioning whether I need to be more open-minded.
No, I don’t think that’s it. I think the problem is that Ava tried to heat things up without putting in the work to build the relationship between Detrand and Adelaide. I definitely understood and believed the obsession aspect of the relationship, but I was asked to believe in the love between them, and that was a bridge too far. By the end of the book, the love was more believable, but I was weary of reading about them having sex.
There were some good things about this book. Notably, the world-building was effective and many of the questions I had after reading the original were answered. Characters were well-developed, although there were so many supporting characters, it was sometimes difficult to keep them straight (particularly in the beginning). I think there should have been more exploration of Elena’s character and her relationships with Detrand and with Adelade. Descriptions were vivid and scenes were easy to visualize. Unfortunately, in the end, I didn’t identify with or like any of the characters enough that I would have been sad had any of them died. I’ll still be happy to read anything from Ava Mason, but assuming any followup books would be similarly written (with a heavier emphasis on graphic sex than on plot), I feel I’ve had enough of this series.
I honestly do not know how I feel about this book. I wanted to LOVE it. I did, in some parts. In others, hmmm....again, just not sure. There were several menage scenes and although not a prude (I mean, bring me some hot sex in my books), I generally like just my main 2 going at it. But then again, I got to the end and there are more books, and I need to see what happens. So, there is that. The title says it all, Detrand is ABSOLUTELY obsessed with her. But again, too dominant, and with her "acting" submissive and all that goes into that (bondage, slapping, etc.), not really my thing. So, I could only give it 3 stars. I did not end it thinking, wow, what a ride. More like, wow, what the heck did I just read. The author tells a great story, these are just personal plots that bother me. You may love the heck out of them.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "A VAMPIRE'S OBSESSION" (A DARK BEAST BOOK 1) There is plenty of intrigue, suspense, angst, stubbornness, emotions, hot steamy scenes, danger, twists that make for a very addicting on the edge of you seat book. Detrand is a very powerful Vampire he rules in the city of London he wants revenge on the killer of his maker what he didn't expect was to see his beautiful mate Adelade she's his weakness he has to have her. I definitely recommend to get this extremely well written creative book by Ava Mason her characters always bring her stories to life so much happens you can't put this book down until finished your hooked from beginning to end so well worth the read I can't wait for next book in this excellent series.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
I so need a fan after reading this steamy new vampire novel by Mason! Detrand is a very powerful vampire that has to return to the U.S. after his maker was killed. During his hunt for his killer he runs into Adelade who sets off all of his instincts as well as his blood lust. Thinking he would never see her again was one thing but when he finds out that she is his payment for an old debt with a friend of his puts her right in his home. Let the sparks fly as the steam build between the two of them. Makes for a fantastic read that you won't want to put down. Perfect for fans of vampire romances. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
No spoilers of any kind included. So this is what I’m going to say about A Vampire’s Obsession and that is I thought it was pretty good! It pulled me in by the second chapter and wouldn’t release me until I got to the end of the story. There was plenty of twists and turns that kept me sitting on the edge of my seat and wondering what was going to happen next. So yeah I am going to recommend this book because I enjoyed reading it and I think you will too.

While the storyline was interesting, the story itself dragged and the overall plot rambled in and out of focus. I struggled to finish the book. There were some minor editing errors, but the big issue I had was the pace. The same story would have been better cut in half.
The elaborate details about the raven never really came to fruition. The interactions with Vera were extensive, but really minor in the overall plot. The soul of Elena in ghost form was creepy, but she didn't contribute much either. Good ideas, just not necessary.

It’s alright. Parts of it just dragged on and on ... and on. The potential for a good book is here, but an opportunity missed IMO.
Who killed Agosto was clear from the beginning. Detrand wasn’t bad but AM had him droning in quite a few times which took away, for me. Lula was a good add.
If your looking for a sexy vampire book look no further. Ava Mason hit it out of the park with this story. I'm craving the next book! The story is good and the delicious steam between the main characters will make you blush. I'm personally following this author because she understands what a paranormal romance book is suppose to be like. Amazing job Ava!!
This is a gritty tale laced with harshness, sexual appetite and love. Well written characters and a strong storyline though I did find I struggled to get into it at the start. But other all an enjoyable read.
Mystery, Drama, Suspense, and some intense next-level steamy scenes, but no penetration. LOL But it is a great story and read it in one sitting! On to the next! #HappyReading ❤
Definitely need more star's! Detrand is one HOT vampire! He knew the Firewitch ,as he called her, was his! And she knew it too! What a great storyline! Loved it from the first page! This Author does it EVERYTIME! This is another awesome story from Ava Mason!
When the story opens up with the male lead having different sex partners, it just dampens the whole mood....and the fact that the heroine seemed...strong but yet weak, I question how this will end.
Yummy vampires! Hot and sexual. The love story is epic and I enjoyed reading it. The FMC comes off timid but I love her inner fire 🔥. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
This was a good read and the characters were interesting. There was a nice backstory that brought everything together in the end. It was a slow burn romance, not bad, but not my favorite. Again the storyline and leads were good. Read On!
Once in a will try something that is different and boy was this different. The two main characters are perfect for each other. Can't wait to meet more from this author.
I absolutely love Ava Mason as an author and she is really able to write a book that is well developed, unique and creative. I am a little on the fence with this book to be honest, there is so much to love...heaps of intrigue, suspense, danger, emotions all over the place, steamy scenes, and twits and turns that have you flicking through the pages! The characters are well developed and I admit I am intrigued to see where Ava Mason takes us next. I would for sure recommend this book and I am excited to read more from this unique work by the very talented Ava Mason, however, I also do hope that the story picks up a bit more in the next book. I know that Ava Mason is just going to make this series better and better with each book!
