Tess Thompson Romance...hometowns and heartstrings.

Tess Thompson is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of contemporary and historical Romantic Women’s Fiction with over 60 published titles. When asked to describe her books, she could never figure out what to say that would perfectly sum them up until she landed on, Hometowns and Heartstrings.

She’s married to her prince, Best Husband Ever, and is the mother of their blended family of four kids and five cats. Best Husband Ever is seventeen months younger, which qualifies Tess as a Cougar, a title she wears proudly. Her Bonus Sons are young adults with pretty hair and big brains like their dad. Daughters, better known as Princess One and Two, are teenagers who make their mama proud because they’re kind. They’re also smart, but a mother shouldn’t brag.

Tess loves lazy afternoons watching football, hanging out on the back patio with Best Husband Ever, reading in bed, binge-watching television series, red wine, strong coffee and walks on crisp autumn days. She laughs a little too loudly, never knows what to make for dinner, looks ridiculous kickboxing in an attempt to combat her muffin top, and always complains about the
rain even though she chose to live in Seattle.

She’s proud to have grown up in a small town like the ones in her novels. After graduating from the University of Southern California Drama School, she had hopes of becoming an actress but was called instead to writing fiction. She’s grateful to spend most days in her office matchmaking her characters while her favorite cat Mittens (shhh…don’t tell the others) sleeps on the desk.

She adores hearing from readers, so don’t hesitate to say hello or sign up for her newsletter:
http://tesswrites.com/. You’ll receive an ebook copy of her novella, The Santa Trial, for your
efforts.

Much to her father’s horror, you can find her everywhere on social media.

A must read book of 2020! Luci almost lost her life when she was 12 and she was forced to grow up overnight. Her days were not easy and for many years she struggled with her abusive father, while hoping to escape. In walks the boy who saved her life once again she is reminded that happiness is something she too can have like others do. Wesley has always remembered the girl he saved years ago and he himself had his own struggles. Will the beauty and love of Christmas shine over this couple? Well you’ll have to read it to find out! This book was the most heart stopping books by this author yet for me! Not only did I read in a sitting but I couldn’t help but cry at times with the masterpiece I was reading. A beautiful historical novel I promise you won’t soon forget. A gem I highly recommend everyone reads and gives as a gift! Thank you to the publisher for my ARC at my request. All thoughts are mine and mine alone.

I found this book beautifully written. I quickly fell in love with all the characters. I liked how the writer shared each characters background story. She didn’t go into great depth of the stories for each character, however she used her writing to fill in the gaps to answer the questions. The sharing of the story of two families from the different side of the tracks was written with a gentle hand.
The deep understanding of times for families back then. At times While reading I was sure some tragic event would happen, but the joy of learning from the book kept me intrigued with how things would turn out for the family next. Through all the turmoil the readers will learn that the love will always be there from your family. Your true family. I recommend this book for all the readers to take the time to read. This is a very touching book for the human soul.
I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

"To love someone as much as they love each other is a great gift. Even when parted, the love remains." This is such a profound quote from Come Tomorrow that perfectly describes true love in the story. Tess Thompson has brought another heartwarming, tear jerking, all over the emotional spectrum novel in my favorite genre, historical fiction. She has such a talent to draw the reader right into the story from the first paragraph and doesn't let them go until the touching last page. Come Tomorrow is such a feel-good story and what an amazing beginning to a Christmas holiday series.

I love Tess Thompson's characters. Wesley, Luci and Sadie were so easy to connect to and become a part of the story with them. At the beginning of the story my emotions were pulled to tears and my heart broke for them. Ms. Thompson's main characters are so endearing and they wrapped themselves around my heart in ways that made me feel the emotions they were going through. Even Atlas/Gus, the faithful and loyal dog, pulled my heartstrings. She creates word stories in her books. Stories that draw you in and make you feel. She puts the reader into the lives of her characters in such a deep and involved way that you fall in love with them completely.

The story of Luci and Wesley brings with it unexpected surprises, drama, heartbreak and doubts. It's also filled with hope, love, and forgiveness. Ms. Thompson's writing brings all these things together with her storytelling talent in a book I couldn't put down. Her stories are from her heart, filled with scenes that are written with details that create perfect images in my mind. I was 100% into this book and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I can't wait to read the next book in this exciting new Castaway series. What an excellent beginning novel.

I loved going to the little town of Castaway with these characters and spending time there. The magic of the snow globe and meaning was so touching. I highly recommend shaking the "snow globe" of the pages in this novel and be mesmerized by the story that settles into your heart.

I want to thank Ms. Thompson for the privilege and honor of reading another superb book. I loved it! All thoughts and opinions in this review are my heartfelt own.

This book is a sweet historical small town romance. Wesley, whose family is rich, and Luci, whose family is poor, both grow up without the love of parents. They have to fend for themselves and also help their younger siblings. That’s what they have in common. This story spans years from when we first meet Wesley and Luci to years later when they reunite and eventually start their life together. This was a quick, sweet read and I really enjoyed it. It’s a nice change of pace to have these innocent characters. I also loved the supporting characters, Dax and Mollie and Roland and Lillian. There are also some surprises placed throughout that will warm your heart. This is a classic Tess Thompson story that’s a can’t miss!

Wow. I am a huge fan of Tess Thompson’s books, and Come Tomorrow might be my favorite so far. I read this book in three hours - I couldn’t put it down. It grabbed me with the very first line, and didn’t release me until I had finished the very last. Come Tomorrow punched me right in the feels. The first third of the book was spent ugly crying, the middle was spent angry, and then the last third was full of smiles and relief.

As usual, the author’s characters are incredible. The three main characters are so strong. Each one had to go through so much in their childhoods - things that might have made other kids give up, or take a bad turn in life. The supporting characters are all very diverse and well thought out, from an alcoholic father to an innocent child and many more. My favorite supporting character was definitely the dog. I am a huge dog lover, so I was very happy that dogs had a place in this book.

The story is told from two points of view - Wesley and Luci. They lead very different lives, and I loved reading from both of their perspectives. It follows their lives from the time they are children through young adult, with a time jump in the middle. It is historical fiction, which is always really interesting because everything is so different from modern times. There are very tragic times along with crazy highs. There was a plot twist that I did not see coming, and definitely was not expecting! I really liked the ending - it left me with no answered questions.

Come Tomorrow is one of Tess Thompson’s greatest books so far - I look forward to seeing what she does in the future.

Tess Thompson writes a wide variety of genres: contemporary to historical fiction but I have to say that this series may be my favorite.
Set in 1904, Luci lives with an infant sibling and her alcoholic father. Due to her mothers' death; she has total care of her sibling. As food becomes scarce, a helping hand is offered by Wesley, whose family is as rich as Luci's is poor.
Though children, the two feel that kindred spirit that true soul mates form.
Will time, distance and circumstance be kind to them? Both have issues within their families. Is it possible to overcome them?
Tess has created characters that are endearing who you come to care about. I highly recommend this one! @tessthompson

Poignant and heartwarming

This story of Wesley and Luci tugged on my heartstrings, leaving me wistful and hopeful. They met one Christmas when Wesley was just a teenager, and Luci was poor, desperate and struggling to take care of her newborn sister. Although Wesley came from a wealthy family, his childhood was also unhappy. Wesley and Luci are wonderful characters, resilient and hard-working, and somehow always optimistic. This book is brimming with warmth and heart and goodness that overcome the hardships that Luci and Wesley endure—a truly lovely and uplifting story.

I really enjoyed this book and it made me cry because dog?! It was a nice story and story of had a modern kinda fairy tale feel to it, there are bad things that happen but everything seems to work out and the main characters seem to just be really lucky, I kept waiting for something like *really* bad to happen because of all the foreshadowing but it never really comes to it.

What a wonderful story and such great characters. Love the way that Luci never gave up, no matter what life threw at her. Wesley was one of the most generous and giving people, especially given the way he was raised. I loved this book.

A sweet and mostly light-hearted love story. I loved the grit Luci displayed and also how quickly and easily she fell in love with Wesley. There were a few parts that felt rushed and I would have liked to slow them down a bit, but overall this is a lovely holiday cozy read.

After 12 year old Luci's mother dies in childbirth, she must care for her newborn sister, Sadie, because all her worthless father cares about is drinking and gambling. Set in 1904 in rural Maine, Luci's chances for survival are slim to none but yet, she is determined to eek out an existence for her sister's sake. As luck would have it, 14 year old Wesley stumbles across her one day in the woods and offers an act of kindness that will change her life forever.

"Without the sour, I could not savor the sweet. Pain and struggle had made the good as vivid as the blue sky above me."

What follows is a sweet, feel good, romantic read with a few surprises along the way. Oh and if you love dogs, then you'll definitely fall in love with fun-loving Atlas and Gus. If you're looking for a comfort read during the holidays, then this could be it!

I received an advance copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Book Review: Come Tomorrow (Castaway Christmas Book 1) by author, Tess Thompson
Expected Release: December 2020
ARC

Author, Tess Thompson has created a most unique Family Tree~ with its fractured leaves holding on by a thread from the fear, abuse and pain in weathering the storms of life, and how with a shift in the wind~ a small but meaningful act of kindness, new leaves begin to emerge from it's branches through the warmth of hope, light, and love.

Come Tomorrow is a moving historical fiction narrative that will take its reader from heartbreak to happiness with its compelling elements that deliver a superbly crafted plotline, characters whose thoughts and feelings become your own, and a look into the whirlwind of family secrets, as it drops you head and heart-first into the life-changing connections that tie three young children together in ways not even they realize until secrets of the past begin to stir.

Poverty, wealth, weakness, and strength all come together in this haunting yet beautiful love story as Wesley and Luci, two broken souls from different worlds, take you on their journey that spans every corner of their hearts with the hope that one day their lives will bring them peace and belonging against the harshness of their past haunts...

Ms. Thompson has completely captivated me with her most heartfelt, engaging story, that could not be higher on my list of recommended reading for those who enjoy the unexpected, dramatic, the rags-to-riches, magical realism, and the tenderness of a 'wishes can come true' type novel. This, in my opinion, is well deserving of more than 5 Stars.

Thank you Tess Thompson for my advanced copy of Come Tomorrow~ a continuing journey I more than look forward to...

I’m struggling for words to describe this beautifully written book. The story is one of becoming and living and following your heart. Come Tomorrow begins in 1904 and follows Wesley for six years as he becomes a man, and Luci as she raises her infant sister after the death of her mother. This is a book to savor. It is so full of beautiful prose I wanted to drink it in slowly. The end blew me away. I never in a hundred years could have imagined the ending! Tess Thompson has written a page turner that will amaze and engross you. And then when you think it can’t get any better, it does! I wish I could give it more than five stars. Thank you to the author for an ARC, all opinions are my own.

I am definitely in the minority here, but I couldn't even finish the first chapter.

The author's writing is very flowery. Whether you like that is up to personal taste. Personally, I found a simile/metaphor every other sentence way too much.

The story (as little as I got) was super dramatic and unrealistic.

The male lead takes a walk into a forest and stumbles upon a girl carrying a baby. Literally 2 sentences of conversation later, their eyes meet for what seems like years, he gets weak in the knees at her polite smile, the sky literally opens, and he is pulling out a version of the "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven" line and declaring his love and conviction that his life's purpose has been found in her.

A. That's called love bombing and putting someone on a pedestal and is not a sign of a healthy relationship. In fact, it's a sign of manipulation/obsession/someone needing therapy.
B. We're supposed to believe this boy is 14 and pulling lines like that?

The author could perhaps explain these thoughts as the very immature and inexperienced "romanticism" of a tween later in the story, but there was nothing in the narrative so far to indicate that would happen. In fact, with all the flowerly language and dark backstory already mentioned in the first few pages, it seemed like the author was setting up this tween male lead as very smart and sympathetic.

This book seems like it is written for tweens who base their view of romance on Twilight. Maybe those who finished the book can report if those first few pages are representative of the rest.

Oof. I wanted to like this book. I have been waiting to read it at Christmas-time since it was published last year. The childhood sweethearts trope is usually a favorite of mine so I was ready to really fall for this book but the characters felt sooooo one dimensional. I'm usually open to insta-love but since the characters were so flat the reasoning for the insta-love also felt totally flat and unconvincing. Also, I was expecting a sappy storyline where everything wraps up with a big bow at the end and while while I was not surprised in that expectation I still found the wrap-up hard to buy into. Overall it was just not well-written and I don't feel I'll be continuing the series.

Amazing story!

This was a relatively quick read story (if I didn’t have work). I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t stop reading. While the story had some predictable moments, the author didn’t beat around a bush and drag it out. There were a couple plot twists I didn’t see coming and loved it. Seriously read this book, you won’t regret it.

This new series from Tess Thompson is definitely a hit. I absolutely loved this book and didn’t want the story to end. We start in a small town set in 1904. The wealthy Ford family has two children who are not happy children, two parents who are horrible, and many servants that do all they can for the children while not angering the parents. The beyond poor Quick family has a drunk father and two little girls trying to survive after the death of their mother.
Wesley Ford is a young boy with a heart of gold. His life consists of beatings from his father and coldness from his mother. His sister is so riddled with anxiety that she is skin and bones barely surviving. Thankfully he has the love and companionship of his dog to keep him company and the love and kindness from the servants to keep him going. One day while out exploring their vast property he comes across a young girl close to his age taking care of a newborn baby. He doesn’t know this girl but everything inside him is telling him to help her.
Lucy Quick is twelve years old and grieving the loss of her mother who died during childbirth to her baby sister. The strength Lucy has to keep moving forward after learning horrible truths about her parents is amazing. With her mother dead and her father a gambling drunk who says the baby isn’t his she knows that the only chance her baby sister has is her. The day she saw Wesley standing by a tree, her life changed.
Wesley and his sister were sent off to boarding school. It crushed Wesley to leave his dog behind and he worried about his sister but most of all worried about what would happen to Lucy. He asked one of his trusted servants to please help her by bringing her and her sister food and keeping an eye on them. Dax agreed to keep his eye on Lucy and help any way he could.
Lucy always wondered what happened to the boy she was drawn to but so very thankful he sent Dax to help her. Dax brought her food and milk when needed and then taught her how to grow a garden so she could provide for herself and he baby sister.
Wesley knew some day, some how he would come back to rescue Lucy. Some day he would marry the girl he had only seen once. He and his sister thrived at boarding school being away from the beatings and hostility around the house. When Wesley was done with school, he and his best friend moved to a small beach town called Castaway. They built themselves cottages by the sea and had a plan to use Wesley’s money to start a business and some day bring their wives to this beautiful place. Upon hearing of his Father’s death, Wesley and his beast friend went back to his childhood home. The best friend and his sister had been corespondents for years and Wesley just knew there was more to their relationship. He was over the moon when Roland asked If he could marry Lillian. He then knew he had to find Lucy and make her his wife too.
As we get towards the end of the book we are swept up in the love story and how kindness and love wins out. The plot twist at the end throws us for quite the loop and I for one didn’t want the story to end. I will be counting down the days until book two comes out. I just have to know what happens next. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story about kindness and perseverance. I feel young readers as well as adults will love this series. I am very thankful the author and publisher gave me an ARC of this book to read allowing me to tell everyone in my own words what my thoughts are. I will most definitely be purchasing this book for myself and for a few gifts as well.

After all the emotions I have to say this is my all time favorite book by the fabulous Tess Thompson.
It has all the feels. From laughter, sadness, tears, love and much hope. This book is just wonderful from start to finish.

My favorite quotes from this one:
Without love, what good would money be? What would be the reason for anything? Everyone needs someone to fight for. A reason to be. (No words were ever more true)
A pairing of souls could not be kept apart. No matter how hard the world, love would find its way. Even to a girl like me. One simply had to keep living, breathing, carrying on until tomorrow came.(such beauty if these words. So much hope.)

This is a book about being so poor you don't know of anyway you can make it. No way you can survive. Taking care of yourself and a newborn baby. When Luci's mother dies, she has to take care of her baby sister. She has to take care of the shack they live in. Luci is a very hard working child of twelve. She's not afraid of hard work. She's not afraid of much really. Except of losing her baby sister. She has no idea how she is going to get food and milk to keep herself and her Sadie alive. She's prayed for help and it seems she may be getting that.

Wesley is from a very rich family. Never wanting for anything. Except the love that is suppose to come with a family. His father is a very mean man who loves to take a strap to Wesley's back. Wesley is fifteen years old and just wants to be happy. He wants for himself and his sister to be ok. He goes into the woods with his dog, Atlas, where he sees Luci. He's smitten from the very first. He promises her that he will help her and her baby sister.

There is so much going on in this book. So many things to keep you turning the pages and believe me you will. You will not want to put this one down at all. From the abuse to the love. From the hunger to the finding ways to survive. From family to friends. This book has so much. There is even a dog. Two dogs actually.. It's going to be so hard to beat this one in my humble opinion. It's told from Wesley's point and then from Luci's point. Things they each go through. Things that happen in their lives. Can they possibly find their way back to each other. Can they make things work if they do find that way. Will someone stop them.

This book has such likable characters. Wesley, his sister Lillian, Luci and her sister Sadie, Roland, Mollie and Dax and then a surprise for all in Rose. I loved these characters very much. They felt like family in so many ways. I did not like Wesley's parents. I didn't like either of them. I felt a bit sad for their mother, but didn't really like her. I truly hated Luci's dad. He was a drunk and totally useless. But all the others you will love.

This book was so refreshing. Uplifting in so many ways. Even through the tears you can almost see a silver lining. You will feel the things these characters feel. No doubt about that. The scenes are so perfect. Snow, rain, forest, lakes and the ocean. It's all beautiful and told to perfection. Tess Thompson always leaves me feeling much better after reading any of her books.. But this one... It was just beautiful. It was a feel good historical fiction book with a love story too. So much to read and love. A quick read!

Thank you to Tess Thompson and Tessers Review Crewsters for this wonderful ARC. I loved it so so much.

5/5 stars and a very high recommend. Just have plenty of tissues handy as you will definitely need them.

I've said it a hundred times, but Tess Thompson's historical romances are some of the only ones I will ever read. It has never been my favorite genre, but her books suck me in every time. And she has a special talent for bringing the magic to those Christmas ones. The Castaway Christmas series is one that I have reread every single year since this first book came out. Few books carry that distinction.

Wesley is fortunate enough to have grown up in a wealthy home, but his home life leaves a lot to be desired with an abusive father and rather absent mother. Somehow the young man still has maintained a heart of gold. So when he comes upon Luci in the woods, living with her own abusive father and a newborn sister for whom she cares since their mother died at childbirth, it's no surprise that he wants to do whatever he can to help them. Plus there's just something about Luci that draws him in. Soulmates of sorts?

Luci is an amazing young woman who has been dealt a terrible hand of cards. Her mother has just passed away shortly after giving birth to her younger sister. Her father is a raging alcoholic who is addicted to gambling and really couldn't care less about the family he has at home. And yet she strives to overcome the odds and learn how to be the adult in charge of her family. She also feels a connection to the young man who has figured out that they exist in the woods and wants to help. Few others who know of their existence want to help.

So many secrets and so much undue prejudice being foisted upon the teenagers forces them apart for a long time. True angels on earth become unofficial parts of their families and help pave the way for these fated partners to find their way back to each other again. It's a beautiful rags to riches story that somehow is even more beautiful than that phrase implies. And there are so many twists with all of the secrets in their pasts.

Their love story isn't the only one that unfolds in this novel, either. As often happens with Tess's holiday books, I needed a couple of tissues for this one.

And I have to give a special shoutout to the dog, Atlas. He needs his own tissue.

I just love this heartwarming series and also love the second book in it. I have dreams of there maybe being a third installment one day.

"Sometimes, when I was feeling sorry for myself, I would think that if I only had a book to read, a story to fall into and escape my problems and worries, then I could bear all this." Luci Quick
Readers everywhere can relate to Luci's sentiment during these anxious days of the pandemic and political stress. Come Tomorrow is a "rags to riches" story of a young girl, Luci, left with her new born sister and drunken father, living in poverty at the edge of the forest surrounding the grounds of the enormous manor of the Ford family. Fourteen- year-old Wesley Ford, and his faithful yellow lab, Atlas, are the answer to Luci's prayers when Luci and Wesley's paths cross one fateful Christmas Eve. When Wesley is confronted with the desperate, stark living conditions Luci and her baby sister must survive; he makes a promise to Come Tomorrow- with a basket of food. Readers will come to love Molly, the housekeeper, and her husband, Dax, the groundskeeper, as the couple becomes an integral link in the survival of Luci and Wesley. Will Luci learn to fend for herself and baby Sadie and what will happen to Wesley and his sister, Lily, as they are whisked away to boarding schools? Secrets and lies are slowly uncovered as this story of new- found love, soul mates, best friends, and the true meaning of giving unfolds over the years.
The "perfect cottage setting" in the snow globe on the cover will draw readers into Wesley's world; one that looks so perfect from the outside and is his solace and hope for the future. Readers will want their own snow globe to shake, swirl and stare into-dreaming of a peace-filled, quiet life. The genuine love and devotion of Wesley's lab, Atlas, is an additional warm hearted, loving gift for readers.
Add Tess Thompson's Come Tomorrow to your reading stocking on December 1st. Five "stocking stuffer stars!"
