पापामैन’ निखिल सचान की चौथी किताब है, जिसकी कहानी बॉलीवुड में लोगों को इतनी पसंद आई कि किताब की रिलीज़ के पहले से ही इस कहानी पर फ़िल्म बनाने का काम शुरू हो चुका है। कहानी छुटकी और उसके पापामैन चंद्रप्रकाश गुप्ता की है, जो रेलवे में टिकट बनाते हैं। छुटकी IIT कानपुर में पढ़ती है, इनोवेटर है और आगे की पढ़ाई के लिए MIT, USA जाना चाहती है।

वह बचपन से ही अतरंगी सपने देखती थी। उसे कभी एस्ट्रोनॉट बनना होता था, तो कभी मिस इंडिया तो कभी इंदिरा गाँधी। सब कुछ तो बन नहीं सकती थी, लेकिन चंद्रप्रकाश ने उसके सपनों को कभी बचकाना नहीं कहा। उन्होंने छुटकी को यह कभी नहीं बताया कि एक सपना ख़ुद चंद्रप्रकाश ने भी देखा था- बंबई जाकर सिंगर बनने का सपना, जिसे वह अपनी बेटी छुटकी के सपनों को पूरा करने की ज़िद में छिपा गए। चंद्रप्रकाश ने न जाने कितने लोगों को टिकट बनाकर रेल से अनके गंतव्य तक भेजा लेकिन अपने सपनों के शहर बंबई का टिकट कभी ख़ुद नहीं काट पाए।

यह कहानी उन्हीं भूले-बिसरे सपनों को पूरा करने की कहानी है। यह कहानी एक पिता की है, एक पापामैन की है, जो अंदर से कोमल-सी माँ ही होते हैं, लेकिन पिता होने की ज़िम्मेदारी के चलते यह बात अपने बच्चों से छिपा जाते हैं। कहानी में कानपुर की ख़ालिस भौकाली है, कटियाबाजी और बकैती है, पिंटू और छुटकी की लवस्टोरी भी है। पिंटू ITI में पढ़ता है लेकिन IIT में पढ़ने वाली छुटकी से प्यार कर बैठा है। उसका दोस्त अन्नू अवस्थी उसे कानपुर का रणवीर सिंह बताता है और अपने पिंटू भैया की लवस्टोरी को सफल मक़ाम तक पहुँचाना चाहता है।.

About the author

It might sound convenient to call Nikhil an engineer from IIT BHU or perhaps a management - graduate from IIM - Kozhikode. However, these days he is the Head of Marketing of a firm by 'Occupation' and a writer by 'Choice'. His childhood was spent in Kanpur and presently he lives in Gurgaon (Call it an occupational hazard). He has lived a few chapters of his life in the city of lights and God's own country too.

Nikhil's first book, 'Namak Swadanusar' was widely appreciated by both critics and readers. Rated as 'Remarkable Hindi Book of 2013' by BBC and 'Best Literary Minds' by Infibeam, Namak Swadanusar has been the talk of the town since its release in August 2013. Sachan has been interviewed by nearly every newspaper for the success of his book and has also been on National Television, he has also been regularly sought after to represent Hindi literature at lit-fests, which is quite rare for a young Hindi author.

Currently, Nikhil is ready with his next book, 'Zindagi Aais Pais', another short story collection. Even before it hits the shelves, it has been ranked as one of the most anticipated Hindi books of this year.

This is the first Hindi book I’ve read after many years, and it felt refreshing. The story beautifully portrays a realistic and lovable family while highlighting a father’s sacrifices for his children. It also reminds us that there is no age limit to pursuing one’s dreams if the desire is strong enough. The bond between parents and their children is shown so beautifully, and the sweet banter between the father and daughters makes the story even more heartwarming.

The story follows a family living in Kanpur — Chandra Prakash, his wife Sulekha, and their two daughters, Mithu and Chutki, who adore their father. For Chutki, her father is like Batman and she is Robin, which is why she lovingly calls him “Papaman.” The novel perfectly blends family emotions from every perspective, especially showing how parents sacrifice their own dreams. Chandra Prakash ji works at a job he doesn’t truly enjoy, while his real passion has always been singing. A die-hard fan of Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi, he keeps their photos in his room and often feels as if he can talk to them and draw strength from their presence.

As the story unfolds, we see his struggles in pursuing singing at an age when society feels dreams should already be settled. He faces a lack of support and disappointment, especially when his own daughter initially does not support his dream. However, things eventually take a positive turn when his family realizes the extent of his sacrifices. This is especially touching through Chutki’s character, who shares a deep bond with him while preparing to leave for America for further studies in engineering.

This novel is perfect when you want to read something light, funny, and emotionally rich at the same time. It is not boring at all and offers a full package of emotions, sacrifice, and the beautiful relationship between a father and his daughters.


यह कई वर्षों बाद पढ़ी गई मेरी पहली हिंदी पुस्तक थी, और इसे पढ़ना सच में एक ताज़गी भरा अनुभव रहा। कहानी एक बेहद प्यारे और वास्तविक परिवार को दर्शाती है और साथ ही एक पिता के अपने बच्चों के लिए किए गए त्याग को खूबसूरती से सामने लाती है। यह भी दिखाती है कि अपने सपनों को पूरा करने की कोई उम्र नहीं होती, अगर इंसान के अंदर सच्ची चाहत हो। माता-पिता और बच्चों के बीच का रिश्ता बहुत सुंदर ढंग से प्रस्तुत किया गया है, और पिता और बेटियों के बीच की प्यारी नोकझोंक कहानी को और भी दिल छू लेने वाली बनाती है।

पापा मैं' सिर्फ एक किताब नहीं, बल्कि पिता और बेटी के उस अनकहे और सबसे मजबूत रिश्ते का एक सजीव चित्रण है जिसे समझना हर किसी के बस की बात नहीं। यह कहानी है चंद्रप्रकाश जी की, जो एक शानदार सिंगर थे और मुंबई जाकर अपनी आवाज़ को मुकाम देने का सपना देख रहे थे। लेकिन जब उन्होंने इस जुनून को जीना चाहा, तो समाज ने उन्हें 'उम्र' का हवाला देकर पीछे धकेल दिया। निखिल सचान की जादुई लेखनी हमें उस बेबसी और प्यार का गहरा अहसास कराती है, जो एक बेटी अपने पिता के मौन संघर्षों को देखकर महसूस करती है।
किताब का सबसे भावुक हिस्सा वह कशमकश है, जहाँ एक तरफ चंद्रप्रकाश जी का बरसों पुराना सपना था और दूसरी तरफ उनकी बेटियों का भविष्य और उनकी फिक्र। जब दुनिया ने उम्र का मज़ाक उड़ाया और बेटियों के मन में उन्हें अकेले भेजने का डर बैठा, तब उस पिता ने बिना कुछ कहे हार मान ली। उन्होंने अपनी गायकी के जुनून और अपने माइक को सिर्फ इसलिए पीछे छोड़ दिया ताकि उनकी बेटियों के सपनों को उड़ान मिल सके। लेखक ने खूबसूरती से दिखाया है कि पापा कभी 'महान' दिखने की कोशिश नहीं करते, वे बस ज़रूरत पड़ने पर खुद को छोटा कर लेते हैं ताकि उनके बच्चों का कद बड़ा हो सके।
इस किताब को पढ़ते हुए मेरी आँखें कई बार नम हुईं और दिल में एक अजीब सी कसक महसूस हुई। यह कहानी हमें सिखाती है कि सपनों की कोई 'एक्सपायरी डेट' नहीं होती, फिर भी एक पिता अपनी बेटियों की एक मुस्कान के लिए अपने हर अरमान का बलिदान खुशी-खुशी दे देता है। यह मास्टरपीस हमें उस 'मौन बलिदान' की कीमत समझाता है जिसे हम अक्सर पिता का बुढ़ापा समझकर नज़रअंदाज़ कर देते हैं। हर उस इंसान को यह किताब ज़रूर पढ़नी चाहिए जो रिश्तों की गहराई और एक पिता के छिपे हुए आंसुओं को पहचानना चाहता है।

ये किताब मैंने दो दिनों में ही पढ़कर ख़तम कर दिया । वजह यह है कि लेखक ने बड़े ही सहज तरीके से ज़िन्दगी जीने का तरीका बता दिया है ।

हम सब जिंदगी की आपाधापी में यह भूल जाते हैं कि हमने अपने किसी डायरी में अपने सपनों को लिखा भी था । लेकिन दाल रोटी कमाने के चक्कर में वो डायरी धूल खाने लगती है और हम भी एक रोबोट की भांति जीवन जीने लगते हैं ।

ये कहानी भी ऐसे ही व्यक्ति चंद्रप्रकाश गुप्ता की है जो संगीत को भगवान समझता है लेकिन वो अपने लक्ष्मी और सस्वती के सपनों को पूरा करने के चक्कर में अपने ही भगवान की पूजा करना भूल जाता है ।

लेकिन किसी अघोरी बाबा से ' जीवन नश्वर है ' सुन उसके अंदर भी अपने सपनों को पूरा करने की हिम्मत बढ़ती है । ऐसा नहीं है कि यह किताब सिर्फ़ सपनों को पूरा करने के जद्दोजहद में भी ख़तम हो जाती है ।

बल्कि इस किताब में बाप और बेटियों के रिश्तों को भी बड़े ही खूबसूरती से दिखाया गया है । इसी वजह से इस किताब का नाम भी पूरी तरह सार्थक हो जाता है ।

अगर आपको रिश्ते निभाना सीखना है तो यह किताब पढ़े । अगर आपको सपनों के लिए जीना है तो यह किताब पढ़े । अगर सिर्फ़ मनोरंजन चाहिए तो भी यह किताब पढ़े।

बहुत दिनों बाद ऐसी अनोखी किताब पढ़ी ।

Just finished Reading this Beautiful Story... A story of the father-daughter relationship, A story of the Wishes, the desires that every father has but never prioritises... And a story of Pursuing your Passion regardless of Constraints...

The Story Revolves around "Chandraprakash Gupta" and His Daughter, Both of them are more friends to each other than being father daughter... There lives take a turn when Mr. Gupta Who is an amazing singer decides to pursue his passion... And the Rest You will know when you Read the story...

The Characters are So Relatable, The Language used Plane and Simple. The Length Just Perfect for 2 seatings so even if you are not a voracious reader you will most definately read it till the very end...

The Story continuously brought one or the other emotions to my heart and eyes with every page, be it Joy or Sadness...

A must read if you are looking for a Simple yet Loveable story... The story is Full of Positivity... Do Read it Once...

Disappointing !

Had picked up the book with so much hope but it failed like anything . The story is incoherent and illogical at places and not even a cent percent close to reality.
Atleast if a city is being presented in a story at least the city culture should be fully described , at least the non kanpur people should knoe more about the place except gutkha.
The author has also repeated word to word few paragraphs which is jarring.
The innovation challenge at iit kanpur is so poorly described and the winning of pintu and Co. Is not at all convincing .
The love story between pintu and chutki is not organic at all and never as a reader was rooting for there love.
The birthday part of chandrapraksah ji where concert was organized and the in laws of mithu were there to apologize , without having any precedent or eye opening event was a rush affair.

निखिल सचान का उपन्यास पापा मैन आज ही ख़तम किया | पढ़ के अच्छा लगा के लेखक ने कहानी को उस मोड पे ख़तम किया की पाठक कहानी में जीत और हार न तलाशे |

लेखक का कथन सच है हैं की जिंदगी की आपाधापी में हम भूल ही गए हैं की हम क्या सपने देखते थे | सच कहु तो मैं भूल ही गया हूँ की मेरे सपने कौनसे थे |

UP ६५ के कथानक से ये काफी जुदा था ये प्रयास और बड़े होते बच्चों के पिता होने के नाते मुझे इसमें ज्यादा अपनापन लगा |

अच्छा लगता हैं हैं जब कुछ अच्छा अपनी भाषा में पढ़ते हैं क्योंकि दिन भर तो हम तकनीकी चीजें ही पढ़े रहते हैं | कुछ अपनी भाषा , कुछ बोली , कुछ विचार , कुछ खाना सब हमको फिर से उसी और ले जाता हैं जहा हम जाना चाहते हैं |

पापामैन के आधे हिस्से में हमें कानपुर की एक कहानी बताई गई है, जिसे पढ़ने में काफी मज़ा आता है। लेकिन उसके बाद इसमें काफी overdrama और बिना मतलब के emotional scenes है, जो कहानी को थोड़ा बोरिंग बना देती है। बाकी इसमें एक अच्छा मैसेज है, जिसके कारण आप इसे टाइम पास करने के लिए एक बार पढ़ सकते हैं।

यह कहानी मुख्य रूप से एक परिवार और उनके पड़ोसियों के इर्द-गिर्द घूमती है, खासकर एक पिता और बेटी की कहानी, पित�� और बेटी के बीच रिश्ते ऐसे की आपके आंखों से आंसू रुकेंगे नहीं , एक पिता के द्वारा किया संघर्ष उनकी बेटी के लिए और वो संघर्ष और भी कष्टदाई तब हो जाता है जब किसी से आप उसे साझा नहीं करते और साझा करना भी चाहे तो नही कर सकते, पिता अपनी बेटी की हर इच्छा को पूरा करने के लिए अपने आप को हर वह पीड़ा देता है जो वो दे सकता है लेकिन वही चीज जब पिता अपने सपनों को हासिल करने के लिए बॉम्बे जाना चाहते हैं , अपने पुराने बिसरे अरमान पूरा करने तो कैसे उनकी ही बेटियों के द्वारा उनके सपने का खंडन कर दिया जाता है और यह बात कैसे उनके दिल को तोड़ देती है , यह कहानी पिता बेटी के रिश्ते बिगड़ने से सुधरने तक की कहानी है , यह कहानी अत्यंत भावुक है।

मैं हिंदी की ज्य़ादा किताबें नहीं पढ़ता, लेकिन मैंने यह किताब टीवी पर निखिल सचान (लेखक) के साथ देखे गए एक साक्षात्कार के कारण चुनी, वह आईआईटी से स्नातक हैं और पहले लेखक भी हैं जिन्होंने आईआईटी से स्नातक की डिग्री हासिल की और अपनी पहली किताब हिंदी भाषा में लिखीं यह मुझे प्रेरणादायक लगीं और फिर मैंने पढ़ने के लिए इस पुस्तक को चुना और जब मैं यह कहता हूं तो मुझे विश्वास होता है कि मैंने इस पूरी पुस्तक को एक बार में पढ़ा और यह हर किसी को अवश्य पढ़नी चाहिए।
