American Homemaker has a reigning spot on my Favorites List, so I knew I had to try another by this author.

The Good Husband began on a high note with this first sentence:

“Zoey Finch was cheating on her husband because he didn’t deserve her loyalty. She crossed the lobby of the Herbert Hotel reassuring herself that her blouse was buttoned properly, her skirt wasn’t unzipped, and that she’d fixed her makeup.”

Now, I’m thinking, how is that a way to treat a good husband like the title says?

I’d been hooked and reeled in... I needed to find out.

The plot involves many different roles and subplots that began unraveling quickly. The collisions were inevitable but how they all develop was pure reading pleasure as I’m one who likes intricacies.

Because of the many characters and situations introduced early, I wrote a cheat sheet to track and assist me in seeing the connections between people. I mention it because while I loved this aspect, it may not be everyone’s preference.

For those who like bold, hard hitting stories, I recommend!

My rating: ⭐️½🗽🙄

My thoughts: 🔖Page 57 of 417 [Chapter] 14 - I'm going to look at this author I'm guessing they are British or not a parent. Vocabulary isn't American and they are not teaching sex ed to 11-year-olds, they have to get your permission to teach puberty, so a parent would not be unaware and the school already went over that. I don't know anyone worried about their 11-year-old having sex when they don't even have a boyfriend/girlfriend, but okay.
🔖69 [Chapter] 17 - Vice Mayor? I've heard of Deputy Mayor and now I'm not going to be able to get that abnormality out of my head. I guess 11 is the new 15.
🔖161 [Chapter] 37 - 🙄 This is unfortunately dull. I'm going to bed.

"On holiday" was used then vacation the rest of the book. I let it go but no one refers to NYC as New York especially if you live in Long Island it would just be the city, and New York City for everywhere else, New York is the state, so you don't say someone who lives in Sag Harbor went to New York. 😒 These little nuances like this took me out of the story because it felt inauthentic, I struggle when non-Americans write stories about Americans and vice versa but 11-year-olds acting like older teenagers annoyed the heck out of me as well. The Minnie Mouse rocker that functions like a carrier/car seat but "rocker" isn't that in US or UK English, what are you describing here? The blood pressure medication conversation - unneeded and crazy. There are hundreds of blood pressure medications I don't know of any that cause a chronic cough as a side effect but if there was one why would your co-worker be on the same medication your Grandma took when you were a child? That is not how medicines work in the US, they have new medicines all the freaking time no one is taking the same medication they had 30 years ago unless it's insulin. That's not how short selling works, seriously WRITE WHAT YOU KNOW! My other issue with this story was there were too many storylines they were trying to do way too much in a short amount of time so none of the stories were developed enough, lots of fragments. So the vocabulary and characteristics of the character were super annoying and then the story wasn't even good and made little sense. I started on a 3 and was below 2 by the end. Aside from all of the poor writing, incorrect vocabulary, and lack of knowledge in areas the characters navigate, the plot and conclusion once revealed were redonkulous. I thought it couldn't get any worse but it kept doing so and the reason wasn't explained. I don't get why this title was chosen at all, the husband isn't even the MC.

Recommend to others: No, no, NO! Just don't.

"Zoey walked faster, and now her underwear was riding higher, getting stuck between—"

Yeah, no. Poorly written with a lot of abrupt telling instead of descriptions. For example, the very next line has the character, Zoey, thinking,

"Goddamn you, don’t panic. Why am I worried? Because she knows me, and she’ll know I did …something."

That "...something." really cements the authors writing skills.

This started out as interesting enough and was readable until about 75% of the way through, when it became very strange and people were being murdered or committing suicide, even children. Lots of gore and unstable persons who were smart enough to know how to murder with extreme pain and horror and got away with it.
The ending I'm still trying to figure out.

WHAT??????????

It will take me quite a while to figure this one out! The end completely threw me. It was such a long book and I usually have a pretty good idea now a story ends, but not this one. I can't decide if I liked the end of this book, certainly not the Lizzy part!

Ugh this book was frustrating. I thought it started a bit slow, and then I got more into it because all of the characters are a little bit psycho, but then everyone just kept getting more psycho?? And then the plot twist at the end just didn’t make sense. Like it was a big plot twist but had nothing backing it/no reasoning.

First book I have read by John Caine. I LOVED IT. I did get a bit lost with all the characters and their role. Also why some did what they did so I might have to go back and read it again. I'm off my feet with foot injuries after falling out of our patio door so perfect excuse to do nothing but lay down and read. Will be reading more from John kaine.

This story is one heck of a ride!! You don’t know who to trust, so you’ll be sitting on the edge of your seat trying to get to the end to figure it out. What a twist at the end!!
Grab this book and hang on tight!!

Stayed up all night to read this book and it was worth it. Did not need coffee to stay awake. Great plot and short chapters never boring. Would make a great Netflix movie. Very good writer and will be reading his others. Well worth pulling an all nighter.

I won this eBook in a Goodreads giveaway.

As other reviewers have mentioned, there are a TON of characters and sub-plots. I would have loved to read them all separately in different books, but it was a lot for me to digest all in one.

I definately recommend reading this book. In the beginning I was a little confused, there were charachters and their own stories thrown in. But once I figured it out, I couldn't put it down. So many twists and turns, It had me guessing until the end.

Outstanding

I was totally surprised as the story unfolds into something competently different from what I expected. Characters are very complex and the reader must pay attention to their back stories. As usual I would have liked a better glimpse into the characters future.

What a twisted, diabolical, and dark story. The build-up to the epic finish was fun to read. It was nice to see all of the different story lines come together with an unforgettable finish...one I did not see coming.

I loved this book! Yes, there were a number of characters introduced at the beginning, as some reviewers mentioned, but it was necessary and they all tie together. I enjoyed the build up of suspense and I couldn’t stop reading. It didn’t end like i thought it, which I loved as it surprised me.

This kept me interested but dragged on quite a bit. The climax and ending felt rushed.
