It was a nice and cute read. The first part is more like a young adult novel, but the second part has more steam. It deals with racism, domestic violence (heroine's mother abuses her both physically and emotionally), and illness (a secondary character has cancer) so be aware before you pick it.

It was an okay read and even though it’s not what I’m used to reading lately I had a good time reading it. 3 ⭐

Steamy, modern, thought-provoking romance. If that piques your interest, you will love this book! At the core, this book is about love, but it is much richer than that. Mica Rae explores systemic racism, biracial identity, complicated family dynamics, self-acceptance, and different types of love. Lily and JJ are a couple you root for from their first encounter. But, life gets complicated by race and fear. Does love really conquer all? It's well worth it to find out.

“Do you think maybe you didn’t fit because you were meant to do more than just fit."

This book blew me away. I could not put it down! In addition to an addictive story, the author covers some heavy topics like racism, abuse, and the cowardly act of standing by instead of standing up. Inevitable is an angsty, slow-burn romance and social drama. There's a lot to love here: small-town, sports, friends-to-lovers, and second-chances.

This book is told from the perspective of Lily Gates and JJ Washington. Both couldn't appear more different. Lily is small, shy, and basically unnoticeable. JJ is the handsome, popular quarterback next-door. However, each of them are dealing with issues they carry alone. When this unlikely pair strike up a friendship, the burden they bear feels lighter. But the town is determined to run an 'outsider' like JJ out, especially when he points out the injustice he faces everyday.

"The only time I feel like I’m enough is when I’m with you.”

The foundation of friendship between Lily and JJ made everything so much sweeter. These two truly saw one another, including the parts they let dim that have been waiting to shine. At its heart, Inevitable is a story about integrity, forgiveness, and love.

This book was so good! I fell in love with the characters. It was full of plot twists, scandal, and social issues that need attention. There’s a lot of steamy romance as well!

Brilliant

This was a brilliant story from start to finish. Shy girl next door going through a brutal childhood of neglect and physical abuse, whilst her neighbour has his own issues. He's mixed race, in a town that only likes him when he's winning medals for the team on their football field. The rest of the time he's not good enough, an outcast. Not being American I had to find out more regarding the bending of the knee, and fathom why it was met with such hostility. What gets me most in this book is the total lack of regard for their own actions and how they were to blame for him taking such a stand in the first place. Wonderful story.

Highest praise for Mica Rae's debut fiction novel, Inevitable! I was up until midnight because I could not put this book down! I was quickly taken away by Lily & JJ and their tumultuous entry into adulthood. Their journey to find acceptance and love with the odds stacked against them made characters you wanted to protect. I am sad that my time with them is over! I cannot wait for Mica Rae's next novel! BRING IT ON!

Love comes in all colors.

Falling for each other as teens only to separate for years due to lack of diversity in their little town. JJ and Lily try to find their way again.

This book changed how I looked at the world. JJ is biracial and the things he has to face are heartbreaking, disgusting, and just downright wrong. No person should have to feel like they don't belong because of the color of their skin, sadly however this is the way it is. Then Mica adds Lilly and her more than dysfunctional family and the story becomes so much more. The problems these two characters face will have you bring out so many feelings. When they finally get a second chance at love, an entirely new set of problems arise. This is another book I believe every older teenager and young adult should read. It is one my daughter will be handed when she is old enough to appreciate the love story and learn from the social issues.
I highly recommend this book. A grand slam and to think this was her first romance novel, just wow.

Mica Rae is to be celebrated for exploring a topic that has often been too taboo to talk about. Talking about race is crucial to the healing of our nation. As a biracial man, I am glad to have a book that gives a voice to my American story. Representation is key, it makes people feel like they’re not alone in this world. Thanks for writing a story that I can relate to!

I loved this story! Mica did an amazing job dealing with some incredibly emotional subjects. Lily and JJ are two perfectly broken halves that bring each other together as one perfect for each other whole.

I love that this difficult battles took years and years to remedy. JJ and Lily had to go through their own healing and growth before they were ready for each other. It was a beautiful HEA

Not bad

Told from POVs of Lily and JJ, the story line focuses on racism, physical, emotional and verbal abuse, with friendship, love and forgiveness winning out. The story felt rushed, despite the timeline, and the interaction between Lily, JJ and some of the other characters could have been explored more.

Love prevails over adversity!

I loved this story of adversity and love that prevails in the end. JJ and Lily’s story is complicated in so many levels and can be relatable to so many people today. I was hesitant at first but I was glad I read it.
