കഥാകൃത്ത്, നോവലിസ്റ്റ്, തിരക്കഥാകൃത്ത്, ചലച്ചിത്ര സംവിധായകന്‍. 1933 ജൂലൈ 15-ന് പൊന്നാനിക്കടുത്ത് കൂടല്ലൂരില്‍ ജനിച്ചു. അദ്ധ്യാപകനായിരുന്നു. മാതൃഭൂമി ആഴ്ചപ്പതിപ്പിന്റെ സഹപത്രാധിപര്‍, പിന്നീട് പത്രാധിപര്‍ (1956-'81). മാതൃഭൂമി പീരിയോഡിക്കല്‍സ് എഡിറ്റര്‍ (1988-'99). കേന്ദ്ര സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ് (കാലം), കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ് (നാലുകെട്ട്), വയലാര്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ് (രണ്ടാമൂഴം), ഓടക്കുഴല്‍ അവാര്‍ഡ് (വാനപ്രസ്ഥം), ജ്ഞാനപീഠ പുരസ്‌കാരം എന്നിവ ലഭിച്ചു. തിരക്കഥയ്ക്കുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന, ദേശീയ അവാര്‍ഡുകള്‍ പലതവണ കിട്ടി. നിര്‍മ്മാല്യത്തിന് മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രത്തിനുള്ള 1974-ലെ ദേശീയ അവാര്‍ഡും. കാലിക്കറ്റ് സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയുടെയും മഹാത്മാഗാന്ധി സര്‍വ്വകലാശാലയുടെയും ഡി.ലിറ്റ് ബഹുമതി. 2004-ല്‍ പത്മഭൂഷണ്‍ ലഭിച്ചു.

Madath Thekkepaattu Vasudevan Nair, popularly known as M. T., was an Indian author, screenplay writer and film director. He was a prolific and versatile writer in modern Malayalam literature, and was one of the masters of post-Independence Indian literature. Randamoozham, which retells the story of the Mahabharata from the point of view of Bhimasena, is widely credited as his masterpiece.
At the age of 20, as a chemistry undergraduate, he won the prize for the best short story in Malayalam for Valarthumrigangal at World Short Story Competition jointly conducted by New York Herald Tribune, Hindustan Times, and Mathrubhumi. His first major novel, Naalukettu (The Legacy), written at the age of 23, won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1958. His other novels include Manju (Mist), Kaalam (Time), Asuravithu (The Demon Seed), and Randamoozham (The Second Turn). The emotional experiences of his early days went into his novels, and most of his works are oriented towards the basic Malayalam family structure and culture. His three novels set in traditional tharavads in Kerala are Naalukettu, Asuravithu, and Kaalam.
Nair was a screenwriter and director of Malayalam films. He directed seven films and wrote the screenplay for around 54 films. He won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay four times, for: Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Kadavu (1991), Sadayam (1992), and Parinayam (1994), which is the most by anyone in the screenplay category. In 1995 he was awarded the highest literary award in India, Jnanpith, for his overall contribution to Malayalam literature. In 2005, India's third highest civilian honour, Padma Bhushan, was awarded to him.

M.T. tries to dissect them through the memories of the children of a dead father. The family dynamics and relationship of parents towards children are well discussed by the author in this book.

ഉറ്റവരുടെ മൃതശരീരത്തിൽ അന്ത്യോപചാരം അർപ്പിക്കുമ്പോൾ മനസ്സിലേക്ക് ഓടിയെത്തുന്നത് ഒരുപിടി ഓർമ്മകൾ ആയിരിക്കും. ഇരച്ചെത്തുന്ന ഓർമ്മകൾക്ക്‌ പങ്കുവെക്കാൻ വേദനകൾ ഉണ്ടാവും സന്തോഷങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടാവും കണ്ണീർ ഉണ്ടാവും ഇനിയും ബാക്കിയായ കൂടിക്കാഴ്ചകൾ ഉണ്ടാവും, ചെയ്തു തരാത്ത കർമ്മങ്ങൾ ഓർത്തുള്ള പരാതികൾ ഉണ്ടാവും അതിനോടൊപ്പം മനസ്സും ശരീരവും വേദനിപ്പിച്ച നിമിഷങ്ങളെ ഓർത്തുള്ള പശ്ചാത്താപവും വേദനയും. മരണം സത്യവും, ഓർമ്മകൾ മിഥ്യയും ആകുന്ന നിമിഷം. സങ്കീർണമായ അവസ്ഥ.

വിലാപയാത്ര ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് മരണത്തോടെയാണ്, അച്ഛൻറെ മരണം. കുട്ടേട്ടന്റെയും രാജന്റെയും അപ്പുവിന്റെയും ഉണ്ണിയുടെയും അച്ഛൻ. അച്ഛനെ കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഓർമ്മകൾ, അച്ഛനോടുള്ള പരാതികൾ, വേദന, അമർഷം, അത്രയുമാണ് വിലാപയാത്ര. അന്ത്യശ്വാസം മുതൽ ഒരുപിടി ചാരമായി കത്തിത്തീരുന്നത് വരെയുള്ള യാത്ര. വിലാപങ്ങളെ കൂട്ടുപിടിച്ചുള്ള യാത്ര.

എത്ര വായിച്ചാലും മതിയാകാതെ വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ആർത്തിയോടെ വായിക്കാൻ പ്രേരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന എംടിയുടെ എഴുത്ത്, അതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഞാനെന്തു പറയാനാണ്! വർത്തമാനത്തിൽ തുടങ്ങി ഭൂതകാലത്തിലേക്ക് സഞ്ചരിച്ച് വീണ്ടും വർത്തമാനകാലത്ത് എത്തി നിൽക്കുന്ന പതിവ് അവതരണ രീതിയും ശൈലിയും. എംടി വീണ്ടുമൊരു അത്ഭുതമായി വിലാപയാത്രയിലൂടെ.

"ഞാനൊന്നും കാണുന്നില്ലെന്ന മട്ടിൽ കേൾക്കുന്നില്ലെന്ന മട്ടിൽ മന്ത്രം ചൊല്ലും പോലെ സംസാരിച്ചു. ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ശബ്ദങ്ങൾ പെരുകിയപ്പോൾ അത് മുക്കിക്കളയണമെന്ന വാശിയോടെ കൂടുതൽ ഉറക്കെ സംസാരിച്ചു. അർത്ഥമില്ലാത്ത തുടർച്ചയില്ലാത്ത വാചകങ്ങൾ. ഒാട്ടപ്പാത്രം പോലെ ഞാൻ വെറുതെ ഒച്ചയുണ്ടാക്കുന്നു. എന്നിട്ടും തോറ്റുപോയി. കൂടാരങ്ങൾ പോളിച്ചുപോയ ഉത്സവപ്പറമ്പിൽ അടഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്ന ബലൂൺതുണ്ടുകളും കടലാസുകഷണങ്ങളും പോലെ എന്റെ വാക്കുകൾ ചുറ്റും ചിതറിക്കിടന്നു."

എം.ടി യുടെ കഥയിലെ സാധാരണ കാണുന്ന എല്ലാ കഥാപാത്രങ്ങും കഥാ സന്ദർഭങ്ങളും ഇതിൽ നിറഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ആ യാത്രകൾ മനസ്സിലുടെ യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നു.

ഹൈസ്കൂളിൽ മലയാളം രണ്ടാം ഭാഗത്തിൽ പഠിച്ച 'നിന്റെ ഓർമയ്ക്ക്' എന്ന ഒരു കഥയുണ്ട്. സിലോണിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു സിംഹളപെൺകുട്ടിയുമായി വരുന്ന അച്ഛൻ. വിളറിയ വട്ടമുഖവും വിടര്‍ന്ന കണ്ണുകളും കഴുത്തുവരെ വളര്‍ന്നു ചുരുണ്ട ചെമ്പന്‍മുടിയുമുള്ള ഒരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടി... അവൾ അച്ഛന് മറ്റൊരു സ്ത്രീയിൽ ഉണ്ടായ മകളായിരുന്നു.

ആ കഥയുടെ അവസാന ഭാഗമാണ് വിലാപയാത്ര എന്ന ഈ ചെറുനോവൽ.
അച്ഛന്റെ മരണമറിഞ്ഞ് ആ നാല് ആണ്മക്കളും നാട്ടിൽ എത്തി. അച്ഛന്റെ സ്നേഹമോ കരുതലോ അവർ ഒരിക്കലും അനുഭവിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. മധുരിക്കുന്ന ഓർമകളൊന്നും അച്ഛൻ നൽകിയിട്ടുമില്ല. എങ്കിലും പട്ടടയിലേക്ക് എടുക്കുന്ന അച്ഛന്റെ ശവ ശരീരത്തിന് പുത്രന്മാരെന്ന നിലയിൽ ചെയ്യണ്ട ചില കടമകൾ സമൂഹത്തിനു വേണ്ടി മാത്രം അവർ ചെയുന്നു. ഒരു നാടകത്തിലെ നടന്മാരെന്ന പോലെ ആ വിലാപയാത്രയിൽ അവർ അഭിനയിക്കുന്നു. കുടുംബത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാത്ത അച്ഛനോടുള്ള അമർഷവും, പറയാതെ പോയ പരാതികളും വേദനകളും പ്രകടിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഭയന്ന് ഒളിച്ചു വെച്ച സ്നേഹവും നിസ്സഹായതയുമൊക്കെ ഇതിലുണ്ട്.
അവസാനം അച്ഛനെയൊന്നു കാണാൻ ആ സിംഹള പെൺകുട്ടി വരുമോ എന്ന കാത്തിരിപ്പും..

ജീവിതത്തെ സമഗ്രമായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന എം ടിയുടെ എഴുത്ത് . ഒരു പനിച്ചൂടിൽ ഒറ്റയിരിപ്പിനു വായിച്ചങ്ങു തീർത്തു.

A man passes away, and as his sons reflect on him, their memories trigger various flashbacks. When it was mentioned that the book would detail how different sons perceive their deceased father, I anticipated a deep dive into diverse perspectives regarding both their relationships and the father's character. However, the book lacked that depth, which was a significant letdown for me. What I expected to be a compelling read turned out to be just an "okay" book.

If you have ever been part of a bereaved household and participated closely in the funeral ceremonies, this book will offer nothing new to you. If you haven't experienced such an event, it might serve as an insightful look into those traditions. Since this is a subject few authors choose to tackle, I give a big applause to the writer for choosing this theme. Ultimately, what could have been a classic missed the mark because it merely skimmed the surface instead of exploring the emotional depths.

മരണത്തിന്റെ മണമുള്ള ഈ നോവൽ എനിക്ക് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. അച്ഛന്റെ മരണത്തിന് തറവാട്ടിൽ ഒത്തുകൂടിയ 4 ആൺമക്കൾ - ഉണ്ണിയും രാജനും അപ്പുവും കുട്ടേട്ടനും. അവരുടെ പഴമയിലേക്കുള്ള ഒരു യാത്രയാണ് ഈ നോവൽ. എം ടിയുടെ എഴുത്തിന്റെ ഭംഗി ശരിക്കും ആസ്വാദ്യകരമാണ്.

പണ്ട് സ്കൂളിൽ പഠിച്ച ( നിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയ്ക്ക്... 'റബർ മൂങ്ങ') സിലോണിൽ നിന്ന് സിംഹള പെൺകുട്ടിയുമായി വന്ന അച്ഛന്റെ അവസാന ഭാഗമാണിത്... രാജന്റെ അച്ഛന്റെ മരണം. കുടുംബത്തിന് വേണ്ടി ഒന്നും ചെയ്യാത്ത അച്ഛന്  മക്കൾ അന്ത്യകർമം ചെയ്യുകയാണ്. ഒരു കടമ തീർക്കൽ പോലെയാണ് നാലു മക്കളും അച്ഛന്റെ കർമ്മങ്ങളിൽ പങ്കുചേരുന്നത്. അവസാന ഭാഗത്ത് രാജൻ സിലോണിൽ അച്ഛന്റെ കൂടെ താമസിച്ചതും അവിടുത്തെ അനുഭവങ്ങളും ഹൃദയസ്പർശിയായി ആണ് വിവരിക്കുന്നത്.📚🌺
