Zorby Visits The Zoo is delightful and entertaining. A curious little alien enjoys visiting the zoo and observes the habitat of different animals. As a teacher, I am confident that the choice of words in Zorby Visits The Zoo is not only appropriate for elementary students, but it provides an opportunity to build vocabulary. The book is definitely intriguing to kids and opens a whole new avenue of imagination for them. The numbers are an added element for learning, and elevate the rhyme of the book, enhancing its charm.
The book is lacking in the quality as far as the illustrations are concerned. Colorful illustrations is an important element for the books of children and I hope the publisher would consider changing them in the next edition. At this age most of the children are very visual and their minds not only register vocabulary easily with the help of colorful illustration, but the imagination opens up new avenues to visualize and access new vocabulary.
Absolutely love this book for my littles! We read it to them before and after our trip to the Zoo and it was a great reference point to explain to them where we were going and what we were going to do. The kids really enjoy the rhythm of the Dr. Suess-like rhyming and I like that it’s a funny and quirky book. I also love that when I buy a book, they give books back to the community, what a great business model! I highly recommend Zorby Visits The Zoo to add to your Littles library!
The first toddler book in a long time that legitimately made me laugh! A delight from page 1. The illustrations are simple, but unique and captivating. And I appreciated the dual nature of the volume, covering basic numbers as well as animals... To be honest, as a dad, I sometimes get tired of the asinine text and stock imagery in your standard toddler books. Zorby adds just a dollop of joyful irreverence to the genre, which had me chuckling. (Although, I suppose I should mention for those more sensitive readers, if you're put off by the thought of coming across a farting fox, this may not be the book for your nightly bedtime read.) As for me, I actually look forward to reading this one with the *next* toddler!
A humorous tale about a little alien that visits the zoo. You can read this to your kids over and over and they will never tire of it!
Full disclosure: All the illustrations are in black and white. That's the point, it's stripped down and makes the reader focus on the words.
The rhyme scheme is simple and profound. One line leads into the next and keeps the reader engaged throughout the entire journey.
When you think about it, the whole idea of adults rating children's fiction is a bit silly. As such, I went straight to the experts, my kids. Each had something special to say "I love Zorby!" "My favorite part was the farting fox." and "Again!"
The last statement from my 2 year old was the most profound of all. We read Zorby 6 times in one day! Do you dare try and beat our record?
This is a cute little book for kids. Given its playful rhyme, animals in the zoo (especially the farting fox!), and a cute little one-eyed alien named Zorby, kids are sure to love this little book.
It's the kind of book that you'll be able to read to your kids in just a few minutes, as I did, and one that they will likely ask you to read over and over and over again, as did mine.
The illustrations in the book are all black and white, and I feel like it'd benefit more from bright splashes of color in order to grab kids attention. Nonetheless, the book itself is sure to keep kids' attention, so I'd recommend you buying it!
And this isn't just my opinion, either. When I read it to my own kids -- a two, three, and a five year old -- they all enjoyed it. The five-year-old was good after the third reading and wanted to go play, but the two- and three-year-old were happy to have it read to them repeatedly.
This is a fun book with a cute alien character visiting the zoo. While the general idea is cool and many of the rhymes are clever, some are kind of clunky and the black and white art looks less like the work of an illustrator and more like clip art and modified photographs. Not bad, but not great either.
