In the Justice Club, you're either all in, or you're dead.
Pianist Landon Jeffers has been hiding in Georgia’s woods to keep his loved ones safe from the Justice Club, the cybercrime network seeking to control him through his brain implant. But when his means of blocking their controlling signals is compromised and he receives word that a family member may be in danger, he is forced out of hiding.
Now Landon covertly works with unexpected allies including the FBI to help shut the Justice Club down from the inside. But when he is prepped during his concert tour for a high-profile hit targeting the highest levels of the US government, the stakes have never been higher. Can he and his allies thwart the Justice Club’s mission of violence in time? Even if that means placing the woman he loves in danger?
The deadline is coming. And death is certain if he fails.
Adam Blumer fixes other people’s books to pay the bills. He writes his own to explore creepy lighthouses and crime scenes. He is the author of four clean Christian thrillers: Fatal Illusions, The Tenth Plague, Kill Order, and the upcoming Termination Zone. He also wrote the upcoming novella Death the Halls, to be released in a Christmas suspense collection in October. A print journalism major in college, he works full-time from home as a book editor after serving in editorial roles for more than twenty-five years. He lives in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with his wife, Kim, and his daughters, Laura and Julia. When he’s not working on his next thriller, he’s hiking in the woods or learning new chords on his guitar.
Landon Jeffers is back again…and on the run again. In this sequel to Kill Order, Adam Blumer has his protagonist trying to escape the clutches of the Justice Club. They long for complete control over him through the implant in his brain. But Landon has become a believer and realizes that in the end he has the power of choice – he doesn’t have to do evil. (At times God intervenes.) I see in this a parallel to the Christian life, where the world, the flesh and the devil entice us to sin, but “there is a way of escape.” This book has more unexpected twists of plot than the first book. And I expect even more in the next book in the series. (reviewed by my husband)
Before you read this book, I highly, highly suggest that you read the first book in the series, The Kill Order, first. I had read and greatly enjoyed that book, so I requested to read this one. I was provided with a copy to read before the book was released because I wanted to review it right away. All opinions in the below review are my own.
This book does not start slowly. Within page one, the main character is on the run. Much of the action takes place under the cover of darkness. If you are one who scares easily, I think you would still enjoy this book but maybe not at nighttime. There are quite a few parts that are rather intense. And the author definitely keeps the reader guessing throughout the story.
This is a classic theme of good vs. evil, but the approach is very original. The premise is around people who are unknowingly given brain implements that cause them to be under the control of an organization. While they are sleeping, they do evil deeds, then they wake up not remembering that they were pawns. (I do not feel like this is a spoiler since I am not providing specific details of either the organization or of the characters involved AND this plot point is definitely introduced in book 1.) With today's science, this could happen to a point. That is probably what makes the book more suspenseful - the fact that this could be reality before we know it.
What I appreciate about this book is the fact that there are two sides. Scripture is quoted to counteract the evil, but it is not overused where it feels like preaching. Trust is another important element. Who can be trusted? Who can be followed? The main character in this book is still Landon Jeffers, but the reader is provided insight into other characters as well.
This book does have some resolution, but it definitely implies that there will be another sequel. I definitely will read that. If you enjoy intense suspense books, I highly recommend that you read this book.
An exciting addition to the Kill Order series, Termination Zone will have you flipping pages to the very end. The quality of writing is excellent, the storyline intriguing, and the characters well developed. This book is action packed for any like myself who enjoy thrillers. On a negative note, I did feel the effect of certain situations on a couple characters seemed to me a little unrealistic at times. PTSD is a very real and painful thing, and it may not disappear in a week or even months. If not dealt with in a godly fashion, PTSD can last a lifetime, but with one character in particular, there doesn’t seem to be much difficulty even shortly after a traumatic incident. Again, this is my opinion, and others may feel differently. As for the spiritual content of the book, the Gospel is referenced throughout. The outlook of the main character, Landon Jeffers, who trusted in Christ as his Savior in the previous book, has changed. It is clear he desires to serve the Lord but is oppressed sorely by the Justice Club. I appreciate how the author reveals that regardless of what happens, God has enabled His children to resist the control of the enemy by giving us His Spirit, allowing us to choose who we serve. I also appreciate that the Bible is used and referenced (unlike in many books that are called “Christian”), although the version quoted is not KJV. The book does not uphold drinking or smoking. There is no cursing, besides the general indication of "he/she cursed." There is some killing (no more than the first book) and blood, but no excessive gore. Towards the end of the book, the two main characters do get a little close, but there is no inappropriate exchange besides a kiss or hug. Overall, Termination Zone is an enjoyable read that will probably keep you up reading late at night.
Termination Zone is the sequel to Adam Blumer‘s thriller, Kill Order (linked to my review).
In the first book, pianist Landon Jeffers had surgery for a brain tumor. After he recovered, he began waking up with partial memories of things he wouldn’t normally do. He found out an organization had implanted a chip in his head in order to control him and have him do their bidding. And he discovered he was not the only one.
Landon has been in hiding in the months since the last book, but he is discovered. His method of jamming his implant’s signals is no longer working. He’s on the run again. But an unexpected help directs him home: his mother is in danger.
Landon learns the organization behind the implants is called the Justice Club. He’s also told that a covert group is trying to thwart and disable the organization. His contact tells Landon they want him to work from inside the club. It’s a dangerous prospect, and Landon is not sure whom to trust. But he decides to work with the Justice Club’s hidden opponents. Landon tries to discern what the Justice Club is up to, but their aim is bigger than he imagined. Will he find out in time? Can he do anything about it? Will it endanger the woman he loves?
This sequel starts off with a bang and grabbed me from the first page. Fast-paced action and mystery kept me riveted.
Landon had become a Christian in the last book, and he struggles realistically in this book to learn to yield to God, to pray, to seek God for discernment and guidance.
Adam has pledged to readers to keep his novels clean. There are no sexual scenes, bad language, or gore. He proves that an excellent, thrilling novel can be written without all that. There are bad guys who are out for people’s lives, but there’s nothing gratuitous.
Once again, Adam has done a superb job. The fact that thrillers aren’t my usual reading fare, yet I eagerly await Adam’s every new book, should tell you something about his writing.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat and was a great sequel to the first book, Kill Order. The suspenseful and exciting story involving control via a brain implant was really intriguing. The story was started off with a bang and kept me reading right to the end with a number of surprises along the way. The settings were interesting, including an abandoned amusement park and a grand concert hall. I got to know some characters better and meet some new ones. Monty was definitely a fast favorite, and Landon's father was certainly intriguing. I appreciate a book that is clean in its content and written from a Christian worldview while sticking to great storytelling. The ending was satisfying, but also has me looking forward to a third entry in this series.
Termination Zone will keep you turning pages into the night! Landon is still plagued with the implant in his brain that sometimes controls his actions. Jade & Monty come to his rescue. And it's much more complicated than that! Moreover, they are left on a dark road in desert country on their way to Sonora Texas, with an escaped mental patient (who happens to be Landon's dad) giving directions. I really was tied up in this story & was highly distressed to be left hanging. It will be a year before I can find out what happens in Sonora! My only "complaint" (other than the cliffhanger) is that the characters do a lot of ambling & sauntering when they ought to be running or scrambling. This book is Z a must read, but you MUST read Kill Order first.
Wow! Blumer does not disappoint. I read Kill Order and was so impressed with the author's creativity as he explored a what-if moment of mind-control. Termination continues Landon Jeffers journey of fighting the organization that implanted a tracker in his brain. And what a journey it is. When I thought I'd figured out what could happen next Blumer surprised me. The romance element between Landon and Jade is understated but still part of the story. Landon's newfound faith continues to grow but is not preached at the reader. It seamlessly flows through the story. The ending leaves the reader's satisfied but leaves enough loose plot threads to set up book three in the series. Can"t await to read that one.
What a wild, mysterious story. I loved it. I stayed up much too late in order to finish! What can I say, it is a riveting masterpiece of mystery writing! I am assuming there will be more of the Landon Jeffers saga to come, there are some loose ends to be tied up and I can't wait to see what happens next. The books in this series will be more enjoyable if read in order.
I highly recommend this book as well as all of Mr. Blumer's books. Best of all they are clean and include an inspirational side that is woven through the characters lives in a way that is natural and never preachy. If you are a mystery fan you really should get these books.
Termination Zone was an interesting continuation in the Landon Jeffers Thriller series. The story picks up where book #1 left off, and the action picks up right away. The plot itself is interesting, and overall the characters are interesting as well, though I was a little put off with some of the actions of one of the characters. Like the first book, it feels as if it could have a little more depth, but overall, it is a fun, fast-paced read. I'll probably continue the series when book #3 releases, as the premise offers a fascinating angle, and I am curious to see how the story will be wrapped up.
This book had so many twists and turns and so much suspense!! A great plot with characters that I fell in love with. It was a real page turner where parts I found myself holding my breath. I loved the scripture references and trust in God no matter how bad things got. I would definitely recommend it and anything else that Adam Blumer writes.
Sweaty palm suspense. Want to yell RUN suspense but of course they won't here you. Too many implanted zombies to count and twists galore! I highly recommend this book!!
Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Lots of suspense making it hard to know who to trust. I had not read the first book in this series yet. I will be looking for it and definitely the next book in this series.
