DEEP ENOUGH TO SAVOR, GOOD ENOUGH TO BINGE

If you could choose from a thousand worlds to visit through one door, which would it be? The dystopian future where peanut butter is illegal? The alien invasion where beer saves the day? The dry flats of open plain where creatures hunt humans for their salty flesh?

Enter the forest of fear with a mother seeking to save her infant son. Launch weaponized pineapples and fire grape gatlings during the foodpocalypse. Destroy the Earth with a single flower. Try to hide your cyborg superpowers during a blind date. Protect innocent lives by sacrificing the legacy of generations of librarians.

Forty-six Bingeworthy tales written for fans of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, thriller, and comedy, this collection of bite-sized brilliance is designed to keep you turning pages long past your bedtime.

4.5 stars!

There are some stories in this that I still think about and go, “GAH, I wish *I’d* written that!” XD

Some of my favourites include...

“Patch” by Elizabeth Liberty Lewis
“The Last Gateway” by Cassandra Hamm
“The Incendiary” by Abigail Falanga
“Flowers” by Hannah Robinson
“Name That Planet” by Alex Mellen
“The Potion Maker” by Rachel Ann Michael Harris
“She-Borg Goes On a Blind Date” by Andrew Swearingen

... and I could probably go on but then the list would be reallyyyy long. So basically you need to read this anthology and find YOUR favourites! I hope you will check out this anthology, as well as the other two anthologies Havok has released. They are well worth the time! :-D

Authorial Note:

Yes, I’ve got two stories in this collection, and I'm honoured to be a part of it. I’m still a bit in shock.

1.) "Revolutionary Fire":

Avatar: The Last Airbender x The Scarlet Pimpernel

When revolution breaks out in her homeland, Sabelle must make a dangerous decision on whether or not to use her magic to save thousands of innocent lives--while destroying the very things she loves.

2.) "Unexpected Encounters of a Draconic Kind":

Raya and the The Last Dragon x The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

While gathering dragon scales in the mountainous wilds, Elmira encounters a dangerous creature... and learns a new truth about herself.

Finally got around to reading this one! It’s full of adventure and action and tropes and is a very good time. I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites, but here they are:

“Revolutionary Fire” (Beka Gremikova), “She-Borg Goes on a Blind Date” (Andrew Swearingen), “Certified Allergen Free” (Lisa Godfrees), “The Art of Taming a Dragon” (Hannah/Ro Robinson), “Patch” (Elizabeth Liberty Lewis), “The Spark” (Julie Hall), “A Healing Touch” (R. F. Gammon), and “The Inheritance” (Carrie Anne Noble). I could’ve named more, but I limited myself.

I am a contributor in this anthology (“The Last Gateway”).

I really enjoyed this anthology. It was a great introduction to so many authors. There were a few that I was familiar with, but most of them were new to me and quite a few are going on my watchlist. I'm excited to check out more from them. It's amazing how they packed so much story into so few words!

The Spark by Julie Hall was my favorite. My goodness, she can do no wrong! This was such a powerful, fierce, and emotional story. It goes along with her Fallen Legacy series and is a bit of a prequel. It explains an integral part of the history behind it and is so, so good!

Some of my other favorites were The Hero of Parker City by Emily Grant, The Last Gateway by Cassandra Ham, The Boy with the Crows by Hope Ann, The Ways of War by Madison Brown, The Inheritance by Carrie Ann Noble, Name that Planet by Alex Mellen, and both stories from R.F. Gammon, To Catch a Killer and A Healing Touch. But really the list could go on and on. This was such an awesome anthology. There's something here for every fan of speculative fiction. I highly recommend it!

Once again, Andrew Winch has gathered the best flash fiction writers around for a powerful collection of science fiction and fantasy stories. This is easily his best collection yet, and that’s truly saying a mouthful, considering his first two volumes, Rebirth, and Stories That Sing! Here are a few of my favorites.

Certified Allergen Free by Lisa Godfrees
It’s the allergen police, armed with a whole new list of illegal items to search out! This one could very well be our future. What will they ban next?

A Fur-Off Place by Brianna Suazo
Ms. Suazo reminds us that childhood adventures are very real, but not for the nostalgic adults. Some things just have to be left to the children.

The Run by Savannah Grace
What a delightful tale! Two children, each chosen by their tribes to live solitary lives, find one another and broker a life-changing deal.

The Spark by Julie Hall
In this story, Ms. Hall demonstrates how to write an awesome fight scene as the rule of fallen angels is challenged by those they try to subdue.

Why God Made Beer by A.C. Williams
A touch of science fiction with a big dollop of ironic humor! An alien invasion marks the end of the world – or does it?

She-Borg Goes on a Blind Date by Andrew Swearingen
The story goes exactly as the title predicts – until a bank robbery across the street livens up the evening. Delightful fun!

The Inheritance by Carrie Ann Noble
Visiting Grandma, a familiar joy to so many people, meant so much more to a young girl with a happy life ahead of her. But when death robs her of all she hoped for, will she find a way to regain what she’s lost?

These were my favorites, but the entire collection is filled with stories to make you laugh, to make you cry, to make you think. Dive in!

Havok’s third anthology is based on themes that have been proven to make the world binge read story after story. A majority of the entries fall into the genres of science fiction or fantasy.

My son and I read these together, and we discussed a score, from one to ten, for each after we finished. We had a long list of high scoring entries. We liked the action and the premise of “Seven Canisters of Dark,” the creativity of “Tower of 1000 Doors,” and the poignancy of “The Light Smuggler.” The setting of “The Last Gateway,” the pulse-pounding narrative of “What Comes Next,” the revelation of “Raiders of Magic,” and fresh take on fairy tales in “Flowers” made these four winners. Finally, “Unexpected Encounters of a Draconic Kind” exemplified the best of how fantasy connects to the human condition.

At the top of the scale were “Why God Made Beer,” “Santa’s Little Foes,” “The Incendiary,” and “A Healing Touch.” But our favorites were “The Fountain” by Teddi Deppner and “Flew” by Pamela Love. Both entries packed a lot of emotion into flash fiction.

Full disclosure: I am an author and have been published in Havok, however, I did not submit during the Bingeworthy run. My stories do not appear in this collection.

5 ⭐ Review for The Sparks by Julie Hall
This is such a pivotal part of the first book of Stealing Embers (Fallen Legacies Book 1) and seeing it from this view point is a phenomenal surprise! It's such a sad part of the book and it pulls you instantly into the scene and doesn't let you go! I absolutely love this series and this author is a must one click now for me lady. I can't wait for more!!

I read Julie Hall's "The Spark" from this collection. It shows an important moment linked to her Stealing Embers (Fallen Legacies Book 1), which I absolutely loved. Within only 1,000 words, she quickly pulled me in "The Spark" and I wanted more.

So... before reading, THE SPARK, by Julie Hall in this little anthology, I didn't really realize what flash fiction was and that it was so short and to the point. Authors who can pack that much information into such a small amount of words gets a million stars from me. I can't wait to read the rest of the stories in this book, and I'll be searching for more flash fiction in the future because of these authors!

The Spark was a quick little jaunt into the nephilim world of Stealing Embers, Fallen Legacies, Book 1. It gave us some backstory that packed a punch! It's a pretty pivotal scene and I'm so glad I had the chance to read it before reading Stealing Embers!

As much as I'm sure the other stories are great and/or fabulous, my review here is for "The Spark" by Julie Hall.

"The smallest spark can start a fire..."

What a read!! I'm always impressed by the authors' ability to write a 1K story that packs a punch and Julie is no exception. This is the perfect prequel story to her upcoming Fallen Legacies series, sharing a bit more of the history of that world while also making the reader care for the characters and their plight. It has action, it's bittersweet, it's raw, and I definitely wouldn't be opposed if this were to be turned into a novella ;) Completely recommended! ~ 5 stars!

This review is for Julie Hall's The Spark.

I'm such a big fan of Julie Hall's writing and characters that I had to jump in and review her story. It's a quick read (only 1000 words) that leaves you screaming for the rest of the story! Whet your appetite and be introduced to the exciting characters and a world that must be explored. I highly recommend her books.

My thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

These are flash fiction. So short 5 min reads. I read The Spark by Julie Hall. Its a back story to STEALING EMBERS in her new Fallen Legacies series. It was really good. Super surprising how much story you can pack in such a small package. She must a #wordwitch. 💕

‘The Spark’ by Julie Hall

A great way to show the oppression of the Nephilim in the past and the beginning of the changes that would be brought to them.

My only problem is that it was too short and now I want this characters backstory in detail - I have questions!

Love it and would recommend reading for the historical slant.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and volunteered to review it.

It is always so much fun to read a compilation of several authors, although it almost always leaves you longing for more! As a Julie Hall fan, I could wait to read her story, and of course, The Spark was great! It gives a glimpse into a world that you just want to learn more about! I loved this, and I know Julie will most definitely be a 1-click for me from now on!

Until reading Julie Hall’s The Spark, I had no idea what flash fiction was. I’m amazed how much can be packed into such a tiny space and how instantly I was hooked. If I didn’t already own Stealing Embers I would be picking it up immediately. Everyone should take a few minutes and read it.

Not bad.

There were definitely some stories that I enjoyed more than others. A few I found to be rather boring, but other few were memorable. And I have to say, the very last sorry felt like the best one that could have been put there. Parts of it felt very personal, and there was something final about that story. An end, with a promise of a beginning. That might not make sense, but it was a very good choice.
