Survival is not guaranteed, as the survivors of the flood are quickly discovering while they try to make their way to each other - and to dry ground - in Deluge Book 2.

Put in place to try and fix the the melting ice caps, the Exobot project was supposed to be our salvation.
It became our destruction instead.
In the space of a few hours, most of the world's land masses - including over 95% of the United States - have been covered with water. Billions are dead, governments are in chaos, and the few survivors left are literally treading water, trying to find the few bits of dry land left.
In the midst of the chaos, family ties, determination and the sheer will to live will be the only protection against the complete annihilation of mankind.
I write post apocalyptic science fiction both on my own account and with Mike Kraus, as well as space opera and fantasy. And one or two other bits and bobs.
Based in the south of England, I've been writing since my teens, alternating between funny and serious. In the mid 1990s, I became a regular columnist for PC Pro magazine and have written a number of business and craft books over the years.
Fiction is my first love, however - I hope you enjoy my voyages into an uncertain future.
Deluge series' Book 2, PHAGE, by the great team of Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus, continues the life story of three sets of protagonists and their fight to survive and reunite with their families after the devastating weather events in Book 1.
Scientist "Buzz" Baxter has tried to make reparations for his part in triggering the apocalyptic world-wide devastation and is playing somewhat reluctant host to 14 survivors who have reached his remote mountain hideout.
Tom and Ellie, Patrick and Jodie face an immediate fear when one of their number gets sick. What is the mysterious infection and whom will it strike down next? What other perils will they face before reaching dry land and getting shelter and provisions?
How can Bobby persuade his friends to leave the imagined safety of the army camp to find the trail which will lead him to his precious Maria?
With a misguided scientist, castaways at the mercy of tide, weather and more, a vampire doctor, deadly disease following the rising tsunami and resultant world-wide devastation, Kevin Partner and Mike Kraus sure know how to get you on the edge of your seat and keep you there, nervously biting your nails down to the quick, with the almost unbearable tension of the riveting all-action, 5-star novel that is PHAGE, Book 2 in the outstanding new Deluge series. Grab a copy while you can - they'll be selling like hot cakes!
The story line and the writing is much improved over the first book of the series. There seems to be less cliches and overused adjectives. I would have liked a little more description and background of the characters so I could keep in mind who was who. The action has not been so predictable and that is a plus when you've read so many PA books. I also would have liked a little more Sci-fi explanation as to exactly how the Antarctic melted so fast. At least I'm still interested enough to read the next book.
I am still struggling to connect with the characters. Max, Tom and Hank comes the closest to being palatable, but none of them are the first tier/main characters. We have not just one but two women who have no problem abandoning their children, and the father that is looking for his gets distracted at the drop of a hat. The scientific explanation as to how the melting point of water can be changed is still lacking, not that I think there is a plausible one. I will still continue the series to see if it improves in the next book.
Those who have survived the flooding and the hardships in surviving in a world that seems to have become mostly lawless, need to decide what they will do next. Some are merely struggling to survive while others are searching for missing family members.
But there is a new difficulty that must be faced, a mysterious illness is hitting almost everyone, some more strongly than others, and if they can't figure out what is causing it as well as finding a cure, very few may wind up surviving.
Like the first book in this series, I enjoyed reading this one. The authors have done a fantastic job of creating and drawing us into a world where almost everything that can has gone wrong, and yet there are still hopes for survival and hope for the future.
The book was well written & kept me wanting to find out what would happen next. Be warned though, like the last book, this one ends with a good number of questions still needing answers. And for that, the reader will need to continue on to book 3…. as I intend to do. (Yes, I am hooked and feel a need to see what happens next.)
If you enjoyed Book 1, I think you will also enjoy this one. I'd recommend giving it a try as well.
Secrets, threads and water everywhere! More bad guys are popping up. Human nature at its least pleasant. The good guys are still helping where they can whilst on a search for their loved ones. There’s excitement, gun and fist fights and pirates on land and water. And of course starvation and a lack of clean water. The apocalypse continues!
I love that the plot of this book focuses on a relatively small group of characters. Mimicking the reduction of the Earth's population due to the meltdown of the Arctic ice sheet, the author richly develops each character's motivations and flaws.
I've whizzed through the first two books, be warned, they are highly addictive!
The apocalypse continues with a well written storyline and well developed flawed characters. Contains lots of action and several twists. A very entertaining read that was hard to put down. Highly recommended series. What are the next challenges the characters will meet in this post-apocalyptic world?
Each group has had journeyed long and hard to protect each other. Can they survive the next Challenges that they must face. Will they be able to find their missing loved ones? Only time will tell.
Well Mike never fails to deliver an interesting and suspense Filled book ! I can't stop reading them and look forward to starting each new exciting adventures of his characters
Had me rereading sentences wondering if I missed something. Words seemed thrown in randomly and had to stop to think for a moment. I read a lot of this But wasn’t sure I would even finish this book.I don’t want to sound too negative but maybe with some practice?
Wonderful just like book one. Can't put this series down. Really have to see what happens. Ellie and Bobby are determined to find their daughter with whatever help comes their way. A great series
Water, water everywhere, Don’t drink it, or swim in it. Burn your clothes if you have. One man knows the answer, and both the good guys and the bad are after him.
Do you choose the safety of land or to just stay long enough to restock supplies? Scene 2: what will it take to find your daughter? Who do choose to believe? Where do you choose to be next? Don't worry there are more questions looking for answers.
This second episode to the Deluge series not only introduces a few new characters, it begins to reveal secrets that those keeping them will do what they can to keep them from coming out. Along with plenty of action, this new world becomes clearer geographically as well as politically. This is an entertaining read that will keep you settled into your chair until the final page. I received an Advance Reader Copy and chose to provide this review.
