Michael Chatfield is a Canadian Army veteran and international bestselling author who writes the kind of books he always wanted to read—character-driven, gritty, tactical, and grounded in reality.

He doesn’t write one-dimensional killers wrapped in plot armor, charging toward an objective without thought. His stories are built for readers who want earned progression, tight, understandable logic, and realistic strategy. Every stat system has structure. Every decision is deliberate (except when there is Jaeger involved).

And the pacing? It's locked at two hundred percent. From alleyway brawls to starship armadas clashing over galactic sovereignty, from tactical dungeon assaults to city-states warring over a continent’s fate—Chatfield commits to every battle like it’s his last.

With millions of books and audiobooks sold, and tens of thousands of reviews his work spans LitRPG, military sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apocalyptic survival. He writes for readers who value systems that make sense, loyalty that lasts, and power that’s earned, not handed out.

Whether you're listening on a long drive, grinding through a shift, or up past midnight planning the next in-game raid—this is where you’ll find sagas to binge. Where strength is earned, logic rules, and camaraderie is forged in fire.

This is kind of a big disappointment. The series was previously getting bogged down in too many side characters and pointless storylines and the last book ended on the note that the two MC's would get back to their roots and go out on their own. That did not happen. We have more side-characters than ever and we are back in boardroom meetings and looking in on the lives of people that we could do without. At least 80% of this book could be summed up by the characters with a passing line: "Oh, did you hear about Aditya? He got elected to the position he created and then got all his friends on the voting council for." We literally don't need to follow the events of the first realm at all; it's pointless. Neither MC progressed in any type of cultivation (although it can be argued that Rugrat did when he took the fire pill, but that is a really cheap cop-out.) He takes a pill and then a nap. Random dude's in their changing rooms literally got more screen time than that. Even when the MC's decide to go to the Sixth realm they are accompanied by baby sitters and spend most of the time as background characters providing covering fire. The last 20% of the book was one long, boring fight scene against some poor, mutated and enslaved orcs. That portion easily could be skipped and the reader misses nothing as long as they read the last 4 or 5 pages. Nothing that made the first couple of books good was here.

Welcome to the two week curse

Welcome to the two week curse whereby over time the excessive number of supporting characters have more details and chapters than the mains. Not worth reading. Time to give up on this series.

Lost it's Way

I feel like this book has veered away from my favorite parts of this series. It has way to many side characters that are taking up a huge portion of the book. I would really prefer if at least 75% of the book was Erik and Rugrat (and for them not to be in combat almost constantly). I miss the days of them focusing on body and mana cultivation and there crafts as much as exploration and combat. It is just too "grand" trying to spilt the story across 4 realms, at this point just make the Adventurers guild and Willful Institute a side novel...

A bit all over the place

Francly I expected more after the long wait. The action is all over the place, one moment they use storage items , the other they forget they exist. They have guns but when they jam instead of storing it and taking out another they seel to forget they can. A lot of the fighting is pointless, there is very little story progression, the MC's keep opening their character sheets just to fill more pages ,not because there is something that's changed, side plots are being opened bit not followed up upon. It's a mess. Unfortunately this little saga seems to go the same way as Emerilia : getting lost in details and clishees.

Not much I can say that I haven't already said in my previous reviews. The battles are way too long and the reason behind the battles aren't that interesting. Alva attempts to clear the water level of the dungeon in this one. That fight took way to long. Eric and Rugrat take a small team to the 6th realm to get stronger. I am expected the next book to be more about wars again which isn't my favorite. I still like the other stuff in the book, so I am planning to continue. It might be awhile before the next book comes out since this book just came out last month.

An Okay Read

It was okay. Could use some more editing. Maybe it's series fatigue, but I'm not very excited by the prospect of a next book. I'll read it for some conclusions to some storylines. There are just so many characters on rotation that it feels bloated.

Nice continuation

Been waiting for this for a while.
Heres the quick and dirty:
Story 9/10
Editing 6/10 (thats... really good for our author, hes making an effort here)
Plot 7/10 (engaging and excellent, no real moments of total confusion)
Progression 8/10 (good flow, good readability, didn’t feel slow or rushed)

Well done sir. Ive always enjoyed your books, but if you have a weakness is in the editing phase. Looks like you are working on it though and it does show. Ill be impatiently waiting for part two and the seventh realm :). Keep em coming!

Another great book in the series. I love that the supporting characters are so important to Erik and Rugrat. They are not just lowly foot soldiers, these are people they depend on. The author makes their actions important to things that happen down the line. Egbert is definitely one of my favorite characters. I hope to see more of him in part 2. Can't get enough of the "bag of bones!" I love a well rounded book and this book (and series does that). It is not one dimensional. Yes, Erik & Rugrat are the key characters but other characters matter to the story as well. They help move it along and it isn't one dimensional. The orc mission was an eye opener. That little revelation was surprising and I am looking forward to where that information leads us in part 2. I definitely can't wait until it comes out.

I've been listening to the audiobooks of this series. And I've been really liking the series, but they changed the narrator on the Sixth Realm Part 1, and it essentially has ruined the experience. The new narrator doesn't differentiate his voice for each character enough, nor does he change his voice for the system/character stats messages, so it all just gets muddled and somehow loses its engagement.

If you enjoyed the last one, you'll enjoy this... more of the same. I do feel Chatfield could spend more time detailing the clash with the Willful Institute and less on battles to retake their main base's dungeon levels. A battle of man versus non-sapient dungeon creates almost no emotional impact.

20.9.2020 - 4*
I love this series.
Reading The Sixth Realm was like going to friend's home and crash there for a while - relaxing, nice, familiar and fun. This whole world is one kick-ass work with incredible characters and awesome magic-thing.
Yes, it has its shortcomings and has weak spots (personally I like them because I am sucker for descriptions and behind-the-curtains workings of things, but I can see where this can drive others up the wall) but taken as a whole, it's great. .))

Fantastic addition

I can defiantly see why he made it a two part book. This book filled with lovely stories that give the reader a wonderful look at the Empire that Alva has become with still giving an advancement of Erik and Rugrat. Can’t wait for the release of part 2!! Absolutely love this series.

This book was really long. I like the descriptions and details of things that they create or do in this series, but there was just a too much extra and boring information in this one which I skipped. I truley enjoy this series and will continue reading it, but I hope we can read more about the MCs in the next books.

Still good

Still good, but less interesting and entertaining than the first few books in the series. It seems rambling and aimless at times, the stories, plural, are still good, but there are multiple ones going on all at the same time and we the reader are left with too little of too many different storylines so they all feel a bit unfocused. Would be much better if there was one storyline with one group of characters to follow along with.

So this is the new audiobook by Mr Chatfield with the new narrator Mr Hellegers. overall fantastic book, narration while different still gives life to Mr Michael's words.
the only nick pick is Rugrat's accent, not as strong as the previous narrator but did improve over the book as he settled in to the story. the over the top asian accents have been dulled down which is an improvement.

I would highly recommend this book

5 Get Away With Your Sobering Hands! Stars

Sixth Realm Part 1 is the sixth book in The Ten Realms LitRPG series by Michael Chatfield.

Okaaayyy.... so everything gets so much more real and ultra convoluted in these pages. We finally get to experience Erik and Rugrat’s full cumulated strength up to this point, and it is spectacular.

From: The inner workings of Vuzgal, with the first official competition in the Battle Arena. Showcasing the huge growth from the newly trained army, Special Teams, and the Adventure’s Guild.
To: Yui leading the charge against the Water Floor and bringing the entire dungeon under their power at long last.
As well, the Adventure’s Guild and Elian’s secretive advances against the Willful Institute we first saw attacking and conniving against our MCs in the beginning.
Then there’s Aditya and his endeavor to pull the Beast Mountain Range under Alva’s control and it’s continued evolution. I honestly can’t wait for the moment these accumulated outpost lords first meet Erik and Rugrat, as his hidden backer. Or even see the power and force of the Alvan masses in any form or fashion.

With how the Sixth Realm is shaping up, I’m looking forward to how they will leave their mark on another realm. As well as how they will face off against Lord Vinter, and is this mysterious teacher they are set to meet will be their toehold into building another extension of their reach.

One must not forget dear Davin and his continued antics with Egbert. I truly hoped for another dungeon construct of powerful, albeit eccentric, inhabitant to show up and fill out their weird little group. Oh wells.

I wonder how the next part of this realm will evolve, and how long until they run into the Sha; if we will have to wait until the book after to see the outcome of this test.

A good read

This series is really involved and complex. There are two traditional main characters but there are quite a number of additional characters that play an important and main role. It makes sense for the story overall but it makes it harder to invest in Eric and Rugrat. It seems like they don't use their time well for development of there physical selves, trades and abilities. They complain about bottlenecks they come to then don't do the work to get through them. There are obvious options them seem to over look. Like the other character from earth who is studying mana itself. Her students have made some incredible headway in breaking things down and relearning how to do stuff more efficiently and effectively with a better effect with a lower cost. Given the importance of all these people counting on Eric and Digest why wouldn't they utilize all the available resources. Like all the fighting techniques. Or finish opening mana cultivation. It would just take setting some time aside each day to process it. Or taking the next body cultivation step. AT they're levels they'd be getting better experience gains from these things. I get why they didn't do it while setting up the military, an governing bodies, but they're all self sufficient and completely counting on Eric and Rugrat to be strong enough to handle what's coming. But no lets go spend months taking care of some sock people and destroying created orcs. Because that made so much sense. Had they prepared better, then done those things, they would have been more successful with lower risk.
I do like the books, but parts are getting hard to read because the main characters are suppose to develop, learn from mistakes, do better...

Alert

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”

Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.

I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.

If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.

Cheers

One of the Best LitRPG Series

I don’t often write reviews. As someone who read’s 100’s of books per year for over 40 years, so much of what is out there is blasé and shallow. Very few series or even one offs stand out these days. These days I enjoy reading LitRPG because it is still somewhat in its infancy and I enjoy watching a genre develop and most importantly I read looking for those diamonds in the rough. I have enjoyed watching Michael grow as a writer over the years and I feel this series he really created something special..Normally in LitRPGs I find that as they advance the storylines and progress of the characters becomes bogged down or to complex to truly follow but this series is wonderful in a way that I rarely see. You see Michael has found a balance between game progress and story progress that is believable and maintains your interest. I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading more about Eric and Rugrat. Thank you for a wonderful Journey Michael.

Good series so far

So I just bing read the whole series up until now. This review is based on the series up to now. Great series but with so many characters it gets tough to follow sometimes. My only real qualm is that in the first book it said that the major difference between the lower levels and the higher is that the stats inc per level from 5 to 10. This only happens at lvl 10. Besides that it seems like the mcs as are both op and learn quickly but dont learn things they should. Why did it take so long for them to develop techniques and any better spells than mana bullet and mana blast. The cultivation was confusing at first with the gates. It seemed at first that the gates and core were connected and they are and they were explained to my satisfaction and explained the decrepency with their lack of knowledge. Very interesting story line just kind of wish there was some more love interest action going on.

I’m not sure if I’ve become more demanding, or if this series is getting a little bit worse with each volume, but I’ve reached the point now where reading them is more of a slog than a journey.

Erik is really the only character with any depth or interest, but we spend a lot of time in this one following secondary stuff that’s just not really doing it for me.

I’m also disappointed with the artificial level-cap that’s been implemented as well as the “anything goes” rules of might and magic in the ten realms. Literally any powers necessary for the plot are allowed at this point, and more often than not it’s justified by some inconsistent meta-magical nonsense completely unhinged from what we think we understand.

Ultimately I’ll read/skim all of them given how much time I’ve invested, and there are still glimpses of what drew me to the series originally. I’m holding out hope that they’ll become more fun and less work.

I love the series, and the book manages to be fun and a fast read, maybe too fast compared to the previous books.
The MCs have managed to build something great, and I loved some of the side chapters, they make the book feel alive, eventhough some of the filler chapters are not really important.
The world moves at a good pace, with stuff going in several realms, but the MC's are completely irrelevant now, and the worst part of the book was what was devoted to them. Their experience in the sixth realm was really boring, with some useless and inconsistent fights (sometimes the orcs are really hard, other times they drop like flies).
In summary, we have too many characters, the plot moves very little and honestly, the MC's are the least interesting of them in this book. Lets hope the second part is better.

It's decent. Nice to have some more fighting with the MCs, but would be cool if they took control more instead of pushing themselves into the background so much.

What pissed me off from time to time was the constant lack of continuity that the author struggles with in all his books.

The fights with the orcs got annoying with the discrepancy in the numbers. For instance, they would say there were a 100 of them, then they spend chapters killing droves of them off, and then there would be 60 left. And then they would take out dozens of them in a few seconds in other scenes. It made me sight a bunch of times. I get that they're tough, but come on.

Other than that it was nice not to have to spend the entire book with the other characters, only half of it. Although, I think that the time spent on the fighting competition could have been cut down a lot.

This was an effing FanTastic litRPG. And actually even better than The Fifth Realm, but don’t skip around in this series or you'll be absodamnlutely lost and lose the continuity of the storyline, so much happens as you progress through the books. Erik gains Expert level in both Healing and Alchemy, while Rugrat Rodriguez is trying to work through his bottleneck to get Expert level in Smithing... while both have made there bodies a lot stronger, able to take on stronger foes... It's been a while since I mentioned George Rugrat's beast companion and he's also leveling. But just wait 'til you meet up with Gilly, Erik's companion, with her dragon bloodline!!!
So yeah grab the audiobook and experience the pure pulse-pounding joy!

I'll leave you with a quote from Rugrat:

“Cause I’m irresistible, like a tattooed teddy bear.”

Nefarious plans are afoot as our favorite pair tackle the 6th Realm

Pushing into the 6th Realm our heroic team plus their Alvan special team support explore the linked dungeons of the 6th Realm, stumbling into a horrific magical experiment that’s part of a greater threat to the people or the realm.
It’s almost as if the Realms themselves reward the nosey and curious with quests to challenge them and their ideals while laying a karmic smack down on the Realms own targets. Quests are a powerful motivator in the Realm as everyone wants to grow stronger, however not everyone wants to do it through the chaos of combat. To each their own but our heroes are all about putting down the smack down with military precision!
So uh, where’s part two?

The Sixth Book In The Series

Other than some missing text (mostly prepositions) and commas (mostly before coordinating conjunctions), which most readers would likely not notice anyway (These things only seem to bother Grammar Nazis -- which would argue that I am one), this is an excellent read.

Eric and Digest finally get to go adventuring again -- with only a modicum of supervision (Becoming (somewhat) responsible adults has been hard on them) and stumble upon a situation which could permanently change the balance of power throughout all of the upper Realms. Naturally, chaos ensues.

This novel, and the series of which it is a part, may be of interest to fans of the wider Fantasy genre as well as some fans of Military fiction and those who enjoy RPGs.
