OMG! Sorry, I rarely say that but seriously. OMG! This is just a prequel to a new duet and it did its job. I am 100% hooked. I want, no, I need more. Laurelin Paige did such a good job of starting this duet out with so much sizzle between this couple. I can't wait to read the rest!

Prequel but part of book 1

Tess and Scott Sebastian have a very unconventional, kind-of uncomfortable first encounter. She catches him pleasuring another woman. She went to a function, an invitation-only one (she used her rich friend’s invitation behind her back), and went to a better location since her phone had almost no reception. While there, she hears a cat meowing. Except, upon further investigation, it’s not a cat. It’s a woman. A woman with a man... a very hot, blue-eyed handsome man. When she “finishes,” he dismisses her. Tess waits until the coast is clear, and comes face-to-face with the hot man. Oh man, was the air sizzling with chemistry!

At the party, she’s drinking and happens to start talking to a Sebastian- and the Sebastians have a lot of clout/power in this town. He agrees to hear her pitch for a charity meeting and, as he’s leaving, the man from the roof top appears. But this time, he’s not going to let her leave alone. They have an explosive, unforgettable drive in his limo and she wakes up the next day unsure of what happened since she was THAT drunk, and then she goes home (well, home is actually her rich friend’s house whom she works for). Fast forward to a week ish later- she’s at the Sebastians’ building, ready to pitch her proposal, and she meets the green-eyed Sebastian, except this Sebastian’s name isn’t Scott, and he’s not one of the more powerful Sebastians; he’s only a cousin. But… Lo and behold- the blue-eyed sexy man, the man she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about since the limo drive is actually THE Sebastian that she needs to do business with-Scott- and wow was the eye-contact to die for here ...
(2023 Sonia 🙄🙄🙄. Tess needed to ask some more questions!!! You saw this man finger another woman and then you allowed him to please YOU as well 🙄🙄🙄 have some standards girl!! 🤦🏻♀️ at least make sure he gets a full panel STD!!! Sheeesh! If it wasn’t cause I’m all about women receiving pleasure from men and also experience pleasure from sex, then I would’ve been irritated. But hey, I appreciated that you’re not a virgin and know what it means to feel pleasure with a man 🤷🏻♀️💁🏻♀️. It’s not just men that get head! You do you boo. Just, next time (well, considering I’m going to be reading their HEA so there won’t BE a next time) maybe consider waiting to get with a manwhore 🤣 let his fingers be thoroughly sanitized 😬🤣🤣🤣. )

4.5 A Fine Line Stars

A prequel has a very specific job. It has to stimulate the mind and cause curiosity. It needs to introduce characters, give us enough backstory or insight so that we will connect, yet also lead us to a place where we are dying for more.
The tricky part is while all this is happening, the first encounter of this couple will be special. It can be special in any number of ways, sometimes funny, sometimes annoyed, or sometimes with chemistry so strong, it cannot be ignored.
Laurelin Paige took the intense chemistry avenue. Really intense chemistry with a side of mystery and a dollop of us knowing deep in our gut where all of this was going.
The fine line is making us not care. Because when you read a prequel, you are prepared to know this is only a taste...
Thank you for the yummy taste, Ms. Paige, I will be waiting patiently for my first course, Man In Charge.

What an amazing start to the Man in Charge Duet! Man on Top certainly left me wanting more! This is a short prequel to the upcoming duet and it introduces us to Tess and the Sebastian heir. The story is reminiscent of the movie Working Woman but with lots of added heat as you would expect from Laurelin Paige. Despite is being quite a short read, it's quite naughty and give and intriguing intro to the main characters! I can't wait for Man in Charge!

Slow.. too slow.
The way it was started, I found it going good. Considering the predicament I had earlier with this genre, this seemed good initially but post half it went too slow. The content that was expected came yet again. Unnecessarily thing added on to stretch the matter. Nothing much on that part to bound the readers.
Good thing is there is no vulgarity, be it in language or in actions which make me go for 3* rating. Though that was not enough when it comes to get something out of book, one pick in hands. Not impressed with the plot, so weak it was, even when it was put impeccably in regard to language.

This prequel may be short, but it’s so loaded with sexappeal that you'll want more right away! Man on Top is the perfect introduction to the new world from Laurelin Paige, and I cannot wait to read the continuation of Tess and Scott’s story! These two, even though they barely met each other, have electrifying chemistry and they ooze sensuality and intensity. I'm so ready for The Man in Charge Duet!

This introductory novella to this exciting new duet from Laurelin Paige was just enough to whet my appetite and leave me wanting more!
The steam level is there right from the beginning and the anticipation of something amazing happening between this couple is enough to have my complete attention.
Looking forward to reading more in Man in Charge and getting to know Scott Sebastian even more :)

5 Star Review of Man On Top by Laurelin Paige
It may be a novella but Laurelin Paige packs so much into it that you cannot help but become invested. This was a fun prequel and has me excited for the Man In Charge Duet coming soon. Tess Turani is out of her comfort zone, attending a party and trying to network but feeling uncomfortable.
Across the room she connects with Scott Sebastian, their chemistry is scorching. There was plenty of heat and witty banter and all in all it made for a short but highly entertaining read.
Man On Top is the perfect has set the scene and I cannot wait to see what happens in Man In Charge.

RECYCLED CINDERELLA MEETS WORKING GIRL … PREDICTABLE AND UNORIGINAL
For the only two people on Earth who may not have seen the film WORKING GIRL, this prequel to LP’s new Man In Charge series may seem like the fresh setup that it ISN’T. Normally, I’d be gushing all over her latest release – I mean she authored one of my top two fave series of all time -- THE FIXED TRILOGY -- and can basically do no wrong in my eyes with a string of really good books. Except this time. And to make it worse, there’s a good smattering of Cinderella thrown in and illogical, nonsensical, and unexplained things that can’t be overlooked.
Despite a master’s degree from Georgetown no less, Tess (27) comes off as a clueless girl from the wrong side of the tracks – like some high school grad clawing her up the ladder in a small company run by her wealthy bestie Kendra. She’s basically a glorified assistant/gofer, so why all that that education from such a prestigious university? What’s the point? Listen up, Tess. The REAL world doesn’t work that way. She’d have us believe that she and her medically disabled other bestie Tey are practically charity cases without options, not educated women dumped on by boss Kendra. Tess could write her own ticket almost anywhere with her academic credentials (what’s her degree in anyway?), but she stays stuck under mean girl Kendra’s thumb. Why? And poor Tey somehow doesn’t qualify for disability? How’s that? Wicked Kendra is the evil stepmother/boss from Working Girl and Cinderella combined who washes her hands of Tey … yet all three were besties at Georgetown?????
Parts of the setup made no sense. Kendra’s habit of just taking off to find herself for months at a time is the contrivance that leaves Tess on her own in their 2-man (?) office. How does the business run with her gone so often? Anyway, the opening scene was terrible as Tess sets out to land a business coup at renowned Sebastian Corp party and prove herself, without Kendra’s permission. Sound familiar? She “Working Girled” it step by step -- crashing the party posing as somone she isn’t, stumbling on a hot mystery man, ending up in a drunken hookup, and escaping without exchanging names only to face him again at her important presentation. Working Girl all the way down to every detail in pretty much a carbon copy rundown of that film’s plot. RIGHT DOWN TO HER NAME.
The recycled idea didn’t impress me. A surprise is meant to be a surprise, not an obvious rehash of a fairytale and well-known popular film. The opening scene wasn’t even engaging with stilted dialogue, and we only witness the tease of the foreplay, not the actual hookup. The rest was a Working Girl imitation. That said, LP is important enough for me to check out the duet because the end finally piqued interest in MC Scott Sebastian, but not the recycled plot.
For the only two people on Earth who may not have seen the film WORKING GIRL, this prequel to LP’s new Man In Charge series may seem like the fresh setup that it ISN’T. Normally, I’d be gushing all over her latest release – I mean she authored one of my top two fave series of all time -- THE FIXED TRILOGY -- and can basically do no wrong in my eyes with a string of really good books. Except this time. And to make it worse, there’s a good smattering of Cinderella thrown in and illogical, nonsensical, and unexplained things that can’t be overlooked.
Despite a master’s degree from Georgetown no less, Tess (27) comes off as a clueless girl from the wrong side of the tracks – like some high school grad clawing her up the ladder in a small company run by her wealthy bestie Kendra. She’s basically a glorified assistant/gofer, so why all that that education from such a prestigious university? What’s the point? Listen up, Tess. The REAL world doesn’t work that way. She’d have us believe that she and her medically disabled other bestie Tey are practically charity cases without options, not educated women dumped on by boss Kendra. Tess could write her own ticket almost anywhere with her academic credentials (what’s her degree in anyway?), but she stays stuck under mean girl Kendra’s thumb. Why? And poor Tey somehow doesn’t qualify for disability? How’s that? Wicked Kendra is the evil stepmother/boss from Working Girl and Cinderella combined who washes her hands of Tey … yet all three were besties at Georgetown?????
Parts of the setup made no sense. Kendra’s habit of just taking off to find herself for months at a time is the contrivance that leaves Tess on her own in their 2-man (?) office. How does the business run with her gone so often? Anyway, the opening scene was terrible as Tess sets out to land a business coup at renowned Sebastian Corp party and prove herself, without Kendra’s permission. Sound familiar? She “Working Girled” it step by step -- crashing the party posing as somone she isn’t, stumbling on a hot mystery man, ending up in a drunken hookup, and escaping without exchanging names only to face him again at her important presentation. Working Girl all the way down to every detail in pretty much a carbon copy rundown of that film’s plot. RIGHT DOWN TO HER NAME.
The recycled idea didn’t impress me. A surprise is meant to be a surprise, not an obvious rehash of a fairytale and well-known popular film. The opening scene wasn’t even engaging with stilted dialogue, and we only witness the tease of the foreplay, not the actual hookup. The rest was a Working Girl imitation. Get ready for Laurelin Paige's upcoming Man in Charge duet, starting with this prequel, Man on Top. Tess Turani has hit a bit of an impasse with her life and job at the moment. She's stuck in the middle, unable to go up and unwilling to go down. Although she prefers to blend in with the crowd, she's at a prestigious party to try to branch out of her bubble and to network even if it's under false pretenses. This is where she meets a very sexy and confident man who hits all the right checkboxes for her, including trouble. Unable to ignore the attraction, Tess gives in to his company. This guy is full of surprises and heat while Tess is enjoying the moment. The chemistry is undeniable and their conversation is both funny and flirty. This novella packs a punch and has my undivided attention as far as where this story will be going between Tess and this particular man because she might be in over her head when she sees him again. Looking forward to reading Man in Charge to find out more.

This is fun short read. Don't think for a minute that just because it's a short story that it doesn't bring the heat because let me tell you this, it does. I really enjoyed this hot little read and I can't wait for the next book.

Good prequel, very short steamy read that will tease you to read the new Man in Charge Duet. We get to meet Tess and how her story starts. Definately looking good and I need to read the next one now.

I have to say it’s not often a short novella gets a 5 star rating but Man on Top is the perfect prequel to the Man in Charge Duet coming out soon. It left me excited and wanting more.
Tess Turani is talked into attending a party by her best friend, they were meant to go together but her friend gets sick she is left totally out of her comfort zone by attending alone. It’s not long before she connects with a handsome stranger who she later finds out is Scott Sebastian, the attraction is instant, the chemistry is sizzling and the banter is witty but what happens when this couple meet on another day in another situation.....
Man on Top does everything a prequel is meant to do, it leaves you wanting more and it sets the scene for Man in Charge. I’m so excited to see what Ms Paige has in store for Tess and Scott.

I always look forward to new releases from Laurelin Paige. After reading this tantalizing teaser from her upcoming book “Man in Charge”, I can’t wait to see what happens next between this intriguing couple.
Tess may have met Scott under false pretenses but that doesn’t mean she won’t do all she can to form a successful business relationship. She already knows they have crazy chemistry, but lust is fleeting and Scott seems way out of her league. I sense that whatever time Scott can spend with Tess will be fine by him. He can charm her with his sexy blue eyes and hypnotic personality. Will Tess fall under his spell or will the truth ruin any happiness that could have had?

Gosh, does this whet your appetite for Laurelin Paige’s upcoming duet! Fun, surprising, intriguing and sensually charged, Man On Top sets the stage for a most scintillating story in Man In Charge. You find that while there’s plenty of story to be had, Man On Top serves to have more than one meaning; and is chock full of fascinating characters. This was yet another Paige story that I desperately wanted to continue. Nonetheless, anticipation has set itself in, and I am very excited for what waits in the wings.
