Lou Prophet proves he is a man of few words and doesn't take anyone's guff, as he pulls no punches when it comes to following the enforcement of the letter of the law!
This amazing series of unending exciting, and definitely heartwarming, western folklore adventures is certainly overwhelmingly worthy of five stars and more, if they were permissible! Prophet is worthy of being in the category of The Walking Tall fame, to those who recall that outstanding movie! There are no slow downs throughout this compelling series of unending adventures of realistic old American western adventures, and the compassionate camaraderie throughout this compelling western masterpiece is unsurpassed! The Author's successful selection of storylines were successfully descriptive renditions of how I perceived our old American West was finally conquered and settled! Too, his outstanding selection of characters were unsurpassed in their commanding assignments from beginning to end, as they continuously fulfilled their goals with exceptionally entertaining revelations of unending excitement! Definitely recommend this compassionate storytelling series of unending adventures to all readers, but especially to you died in the wool western folklore lovers, as your undivided attention is guaranteed from beginning to end. Even you non-western fanatics will definitely be appeased with this descriptively detailed extravaganza, with the gunfights, and the quick witted responsiveness of the characters! Really! These compelling stories are "most definitely" worthy of your reading pleasure, and your loss if you fail to follow Prophet, and the other characters, and the cost is only a buck!!!😃
Not a really clean read as the title character had sold his soul to Satan when he finished fighting for the South in the Civil War so he does his share of carousing with illicit women and any others that catch his eye but the author is short on the details of those trysts. He does some some swearing but that's very mild compared to the villains he's chasing. The villains are despicable and having them get caught or killed is a relief. Most of the deaths in the book are not described in detail, which I have appreciated. With a name like "Prophet" I wasn't sure if this was going to be a Christian novel, but it isn't. The first 2 books in this volume actually had a scripture quote and twice he's had characters quote scripture, but its in character. He certainly held my attention throughout each of the books, especially when he introduces Louisa! What a firebrand! I enjoyed this first volume enough to have bought 2 more in the series so it will be interesting to see how Lou evolves and if he reneges on his deal with the devil!
I have read some of the Peter Brandvold books before, and have always enjoyed the stories -- but there are some parts that are just a little too graphic for my taste. I recognize that my taste is not the same as others, so I will not elaborate any further than that. There are really no good guys in this story (I don't think Lou Prophet would qualify as good), there are just some that are not as bad as the bad guys. The bad guys are really bad, and some are worse than others. If you enjoy the story, and can tolerate the ancillary episodes - you will like these books.
I really liked this action packed, rip roaring Western. The story of bounty hunters who rid the West of murdering bandits, who have robbed, raped and murdered innocent people trying to live a quiet and productive life. Many of the Marshalls and Sheriffs do not have the courage to bring these evil men to justice. The bounty hunters get the job done, and live the good life with the rewards.
Outstanding writing of western stories. The series is great reading.
You could not ask for any more for your money. All this reading for only 99¢ you can't beat that. The stories are interesting and will keep you reading for hours. Already bought the next series and can't wait to start it.
The author has been successful in holding my interest in his “ LOU PROPHET “ series. I have been an avid reader since a small child living on an Iowa farm, this September is my 90th birthday, that is a lot of books since Erskine Caldwell’s “ GOD’s LITTLE ACRE. “
This was an outstanding book! It was really a group of five distinct stories in one book. I was very impressed with the character development and the well written nature of each story. Each was action packed and full of intrigue. I would strongly recommend it!
My main problem with Brand old is that he needs to make up his mind whether he is writing Westerns or soft porn. Far too much carnal content for my taste; I prefer my protagonists in the John Wayne mode. Storylines etc are all fine but for a slight lack of historical detail but I much prefer Prophet in company with Mean and Ugly than with hot and sexy.
This was one of the best collections i have read in a long time. The story was a great action packed adventure that keeps you interested and doesn't let up with action till the end.
Just finished this book or books it was good ,rough at times but blood and guts is what this character is all about especially with his highly sexed partner I’m looking forward to volume 2
Lou Prophet can get into and out of more trouble than three ordinary heroes. Even with horses tied tail to tail ( snicker) you're sure to have fun reading Mr. Branvolt's stories.
Lou was into everything in this book one. Taking care of business without stopping. If you want a fun ride with a true adventure. Ride along with Lou Prophet....
The storyline, particularly regarding the protagonist, may be somewhat over the top. But this series is just pure fun. Totally entertaining which is why I read. I will be reading the next Series!
