I don’t usually suffer from a fear of small spaces but after being locked inside a box in the attic along with my fellow cats, I must confess the experience wasn’t exactly a barrel of laughs. Especially when the person doing the locking up also decided to set the box on fire. So did we escape this harrowing adventure with our lives? And if so, how? I’d love to tell you, but then I’d be breaking the first rule of fiction: never give away the ending! So you’ll just have to read on to find out more.
And in so doing you’ll also discover all about Tex’s secret son, Gran’s latest neighborhood watch gambit, the suspicious death of one of Charlene Butterwick’s relatives, the new shopping mall a group of developers plan to build in Hampton Cove, the huge windfall Tex and Marge might receive soon, and the addition to the team of our very own bodyguard as well as a watchdog—not to mention a watchcat! As you can see, things are never boring in this small town of ours!
Nic has a background in political science and before being struck by the writing bug worked odd jobs around the world (including but not limited to massage therapist in Mexico, gardener in Italy, restaurant manager in India, and Berlitz teacher in Belgium).
When he’s not writing he enjoys curling up with a good (comic) book, watching British crime dramas, French comedies or Nancy Meyers movies, sampling pastry (apple cake!), pasta and chocolate (preferably the dark variety), twisting himself into a pretzel doing morning yoga, going for a run, and spoiling his big red tomcat Tommy.
He lives with his wife (and aforementioned cat) in a small village smack dab in the middle of absolutely nowhere and is probably writing his next ‘Mysteries of Max’ book right now.
Another wonderful book about Max and friends and family. Max and the other cats get locked in a trunk then it is set on fire. After their narrow escape Odelia tries to protect her babies. Meanwhile a young man shows up claiming to be Tex son and all bets are off. Share the journey to find the truth about the son and the fires and all of the accidents in the family.
Little disappointed . You would think with 2 cops , a reporter and 4 smart cats they wouldn't have just accepted an unknown man who claims to have been Tex's son from a different woman ,one he'd at least should have known he slept with. Good thing Alex had the foresight to check after all the mishaps . Strangest one I've read yet . As much as I love these stories I'm not sure I like a dumb Doctor. So I gave it a 4 star instead of 5 .
You just can't put these books down when you start!!!!!
This was a fantastic Max mystery! I totally enjoyed the story line. So many laugh out loud moments. Dooley is such a sweet little soul. I love that lil' cat!! These are phenomenal mysteries and they always hold my attention throughout the entire book. Brilliant author!! I hope Max mysteries never end!!!!!!!
Cats can talk-however very few people understand what they are saying. The woman in this family (and only the women) can!! There are 4 cats all living with these humans-they are well loved!! When someone breaks into their home (humans all out somewhere or another)--all 4 cats decide to find out what is going on. Their curiosity gets them in a heap of trouble!
The saying, "Phoned it in," is besically what I felt about this one. I really can't even classify it as a mystery - cozy or otherwise - because it was far too predictable. And the father, Tex, who is a doctor, was far too gullible.
Absolutely wonderful. Very funny I laughed and laughed. There are some serious parts but mostly the Kitties are funny I read the book in one night.I couldn't put it down..
Just when I think I may have figured out the path to the murderer… I need to restart my thinking. Max and his cat family and now enter Rambo… a dog… and you have another Max mystery that keeps you guessing.
I love this series. I'm getting a little tired of Gran and Scarlett, but the plots are terrific, and the relationship between the cats is heartwarming to anyone with four cats!
All the cat talk of cat pee. Ugh! One of the worse smells ever. Still turned out to be a fun story even if the conclusion wasn't A bit - okay, a lot - obvious.
If you've been reading the Mysteries of Max series, you'll know the characters. For the rest, Max, Dooley, Harriet and Brutus are the crime-solving cat team.
In this story, an unexpected person shows up claiming to be Tex's son. As you might expect, this causes chaos in the Poole family. Odelia, the reporter, is investigating a possible murder which could turn out to be an accident, and the Poole family, including the cats, are experiencing a series of accidents themselves. And what about the rumors that Hampton Cove might get its own mall?
