Welcome to Witch Hazel Lane!Famous illusionist and secret witch Birdie Devaine is forced to flee from the Vegas spotlight when the world learns witches and magic are real. She heads to the one place she thought she'd never see again - Nella, Mississippi, the hometown she left over a century ago. Birdie expects to lay low and renovate the old Hampton House, but instead what she gets is... - a cemetery in her backyard, complete with a ghost dog that won't leave her alone. - being accused of murder. - her ex Lucifer (yes, that Lucifer) dropping in unannounced. - magic going haywire. - delicious beignets that are to die for. But most important of all, Birdie didn't expect to be welcomed with open arms into the tight circle of women living on Witch Hazel Lane... If you enjoy magic, mystery, and some sassy women who've seen and done it all, then you'll love Witch Hazel Lane Mysteries! "If you are interested in a book with a good amount of sass and written in a southern accent that you can actually hear, this is the book for you. I bought this book 30 minutes into a boring Sunday night shift and could not put it down! I finished reading it with only 10 minutes left in my shift and I regret nothing!" - * * * * * rating "I accidentally found this book in on Amazon when I couldn't sleep. I am now in love with another author. The book was funny and so sassy. I love that it shows a strong southern woman. I highly recommend." - * * * * * rating "A refreshing new series about witches, or at least one witch and witchcraft, that is unlike the many that are already out there. It isn't about a young woman who suddenly came into her powers. In fact, [...there's] nothing young about Birdie Devine, who is 133. When Birdie is almost caught up in a witch hunt in Las Vegas, she returns to the small Mississippi town she lived in over a century ago. For the first time she has friends, a house (work in progress), and hope for the future. A murder in her backyard changes everything. And when her friends are in danger, she uses her magic, exposing herself." - * * * * * rating "This is a different take on the witch cozy mystery and I liked it. I can't say too much about things, because I want you to be surprised. The mystery was really believable. The characters were very likable as well. Don't miss this one!" - * * * * * ratingAvailable to buy or read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Come for the southern comfort, stay for the magic!

Great stories, poor editing. Recommend a good grammar program. It is so irritating to read a good story and have to stop reading to figure out what word is missing or wrong tense or just the wrong word and what the correct word should be. I will not read more of her work until there is an update listed.

Grits in the Graveyard
Birdie Devaine leaves her exclusive show in Las Vegas and returns to the small town of her birth in Mississippi after the council of witches announce their existence. Birdie is a witch who fears being outed. She buys the house of her dreams when she was young which is now a run-down mansion. The street is filled with women who want to be her friends causing concerns about keeping her witch abilities secret. When her older, taciturn neighbor is killed, Birdie feels the need to find the murderer. Enjoy this first in a series mystery with great characters and a surprise ending. I loved this book!

Devil On My Doorstep
Birdie returns in her 2nd installment of her new life on Witch Hazel Lane. Christmas is coming and all the ladies are shopping, working at the fair, and planning for more festivities. When an old flame of Birdie’s better known as Lucifer shows up, memories of her past life surface. While working at the fair, Santa turns up dead. Now the ladies have one more thing to do – solve a possible murder. I love Hazel and her friends.

Monsters Under The Magnolia
Birdie and her group of Witch Hazel Lane friends are off on their cruise. Surprisingly the group is upgraded to an expensive suite at the top of the ship. Only Birdie notices that things are odd. When a guest on the ship ends up overboard, everyone realizes something is different. Birdie and her crew have a new murder to solve while still trying to enjoy the crew. I really enjoy this group of women.

Tea on The Tombstone
Birdie has finally finished the inside of her house and has her old personal assistant coming for a visit. It’s unfortunate that her ghost dog Grifter has decided to make in person visits at this time. But nothing else could go wrong, could it? Fortunately, Corinne isn’t murdered, she just loses her soul. Now can Birdie, her friends, and Lucifer find it in time. I love this series and this little Mississippi town.

Ok

It's not out there with the magic.. Birdie Devaine flees from Vegas after the witches and warlocks Higher Order decides without warning to announce that they truly do exist. As Birdie performs the strips big magic extravaganza she's booed and chased by the crowd watching her show.

She flees back to Nella, Mississippi and buys, sight unseen, Hamilton House the house she dreamed of living in as a poor young girl 120 or so years ago.. yes, Birdie is 133 years old!

Renovating the house, making friends with the other ladies of Witch Hazel Lane and solving, very loosely solving, a couple of murders and a magical problem that almost kills her old assistant Corinne.

These aren't full of magic and there's really very little interaction with other magical people. There's a couple of glaring errors that need fixing.. Willa-Mae's house was the bingo house.. she never went on a cruise ship but how did she get to Britain before the Great War? Or the Second World War? Not like you could just hop on a long haul flight..

Sometimes the accent is written phonetically, sometimes it's not.. so we find ourselves switching from darlin' to darling and they don't both fit.. come on y'all.. fix it!!

These books are OK. Just ok. I love a supernatural cozy mystery from authors like Danielle Garrett, Annabel Chase and Amanda M. Lee. But in comparison to the funny, sharp and clever books of those authors, these books just fell, and felt, flat. They seemed to lack any real depth and everything, including the characters, was a bit light and superficial. I found it hard to get invested in the main character as she was fairly bland, and all the supporting characters were pretty one dimensional. The stories were OK but there was no real sense of danger or drama at any point so they just kind of pottered along until the ending. I finished the books because it was a super cheap box set but I wouldn't rush back to read any more of this series.

Such a fun series about a witch (Birdie) who leaves the glamour of Vegas and returns to her roots. She buys the home she wants and renovates it the old fashioned way---by hard work. Along the way she becomes friends with some special ladies in the neighborhood, and tries to keep her magic under wraps. Circumstances change, and little by little she lets her new friends into her "real" life.

Each book has it's own "problems" and Birdie does some impressive magic. The real surprise is the support, friendship, and invaluable help she gets from her friends.

A great series that has friendship, magic, and romance---oh, and a sweet dog!

Wonderful Mystery Boxset Books 1-4

I LOVED this box set 1-4 ... Can't wait to read the next in series. Centers around a witch moving back to her childhood home town and making friends with a group of non magic women on her street and dragging them along in solving murders in town... Fun, CLEAN read that I would recommend to anyone loving a good murder mystery and friendship... Great characters, location and stories... You might find yourself reading with a southern accent or laughing out loud... My only negative is these 4 books need to be seriously proofread again... 5 Stars from me 😄

Good value, good series

This boxed set contains the first four in the Witch Hazel Lane paracozy mysteries, and each book is a solid four-star read. The main character is Birdie, who leaves her showbiz career in Vegas to return to her southern roots after witches are outed to the world. She finds friendship and hijinks back among non-magical humans. This is an entertaining series.

Very engaging

Birdie is a very intriguing character. She has a lot of history that gives her a mysterious air. That always keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. I love her relationship with her friends. This gives her the family she would have liked to have when she was growing up. But her life is hunted by her past. There is still more of Birdies story to learn. Looking forward to reading the rest....... Until then Birdie!

The characters were well thought out and likeable. Just a fun, fantasy read. I would not hesitate to recommend to Family and friends, especially those who want a little fantasy in their lives.

Grits in the Graveyard Review: J. L. Collins grabbed my attention in chapter one and kept it through out. This kind of reminded me of an updated Bewitched, except for the murder. Teehee!!! Birdie is a little self-conscience about letting people in on her secret. When things go crazy she finds out who is on her side. I loved getting to know Birdie, Geena and Ruby. I look forward to getting to know them more. In my opinion this is fun and a little on the sweet side. In my opinion the ending was a little strung out, but it was a fun start to a new series.

Devil on My Doorstep Review: I did not find this story as good as Grits in the Graveyard Book 1. J. L. Collins spent more time on giving you Birdie's love life history than on the mystery. Don't get me wrong I don't mind getting Birdie's history but I felt the mystery part of the story was an after thought. I really love the mystery part. I got the feeling this is a set up for the next book

Tea on the Tombstone Review: Birdie and her crew are back. I loved this book, in my opinion it's the best one so far in the Witch Hazel Lane Series. This is a little different than the last 3 books, think that's the reason I liked it so much. Tea on the Tombstone is story of friendship and what friends do for each other. Birdie's past and present meet in this book. I loved how Birdie's new friends rallied around her to help make things right. I found Tea on the Tombstone fun and entertaining. J.L. Collins did not disappoint me with Tea on the Tombstone.

In my opinion if you like paranormal mysteries this is worth taking a look at. I read on Kindle Unlimited but the box set is only $0.99 I believe it's worth the price.

Monsters Under the Magnolia Review: In my opinion J. L. Collins did a really good job at hiding who was doing what. I never did figure out who was behind the murder and mayhem. So that get's a big WELL DONE! I really enjoyed the story and was very entertained. My biggest complaint was it was a little slow moving and it took to long to get to the mystery part of the story. There was some going back over the friends background, that was repetitive for me, but I get why J. L. Collins did it, I think it's to make it a story you don't have to read previous stories. I really enjoy the dynamic of Birdie and her friends I find it a lot of fun.

In my opinion if you like paranormal mysteries it's worth taking a look at. I read on Kindle Unlimited but it's worth $0.99.

Sort of interesting but more aggravating, and if it had not been 4 book collection would not have read 4 books. Too scattered, words and phrases oddly formed, an parts throughout that made no or little sense, 4 book set that together and alone had no real cohesion, characters with similar name who I had no reason to care about, etcetera.

Great book

I started reading these books and couldn't put it down. The author captured the classic mystery novel with a touch of humor thrown in. The characters were believable and she described the southern ladies to a T. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wa to to be transported to
another era.

I love the Witch Hazel Lane mysteries. A southern witch who's left her Vegas magic act career and returned to her small Mississippi home town when witches were outed as real. She makes friends and solves mysteries. Fun series and here are the first four in a convenient boxset.

A fun witty story, to let your imagination soar.

I loved the interaction between the characters, the little type foray into racism, without being crude. Was a good book, to relax my mind and have fun with it.
