To say I’m killing it at my job is an understatement… Literally. Monsters. I hunt them. I kill them. And I enjoy it, ridding the world of the vicious supernatural killers who stalk innocents and destroy lives. Like mine. Like my family’s. That was years ago. But I’m strong now. I’m not the victim anymore. I’ve fought hard to become the thing they should fear—a vampire slayer. When I’m called in to investigate a chain of suspicious deaths across Alaska, I meet three of the hottest, and most dangerous, monsters I’ve ever seen. Just one problem. They’re the things that go bump in the night—a vampire, a fallen angel, and a demon. Enemies I must trust with my life if I’m to solve the dark trail of mysteries before more lives are lost. But just as hard as solving the murders is denying my attraction to them all. And as things heat up in more ways than one, I know I’ll never be the same again… That is, if I survive the evil I’m sworn to kill... and the ones I’ve let into my heart.
Night Kissed is the first book in the Chosen Vampire Slayer series.
This is your kind of book if you love kick-ass heroines with sass to match, scorching hot monsters who take what they want, and is perfect for devours of enemies to lovers books. Expect steam, action, and a supernatural world filled with vampires, demons, shifters, angels... and unhinged alphas that will do anything to protect their woman. Lovers of Anita Blake and True Blood, this is your next addiction.
Mila Young tackles everything with the zeal and bravado of the fairytale heroes she grew up reading about. She slays monsters, real and imaginary, like there's no tomorrow. By day she rocks a keyboard as a marketing extraordinaire. At night she battles with her mighty pen-sword, creating fairytale retellings, and sexy ever after tales.
3.75 stars Yeah I know that’s an odd rating but here’s my thoughts.
World build seems a little lacking. There was something missing but I frustratingly can not seem to put my finger on it. Something else needed to be there.
Storyline great! Action action action! Lot of twists and turns, unanswered questions, and secrets yet revealed.
FMC, Veronica, wasn’t quite the character I had hoped for. Didn’t find her to be sassy and she gave in too quickly considering her backstory. It shouldn’t have been so easy for the MCs and I bed her. IMO
With most RH the males have a sort of bond or connection. Orion, Seth and Logan have no bond at all. They have been brought together by circumstances. A means to an end if you will. There were times I didn’t like there being a lack of a bond but in the end I’ve come to appreciate this decision as the story progressed.
Left on a good cliff hanger to make a reader rush for book 2 !
I don't know what it is with me and Mila Young. This is the second book I read from this author and for some reason it doesn't click, but I have a really hard time to pinpoint why. When I saw the cover it was almost love at first sight and when I read the synopsis it sounded like a book for and then I started reading. And reading. And reading. And even when I closed the book I just felt this sort of emptiness in me. I just don't feel it.
And it can't be because of the lack of action. There's a lot of action in this book. We have a few extremely dangerous clans having some really epic fights. We have a fierce slayer who really knows what she's doing and knows how to win a fight. We have an unlikely alliance of three very different supernatural creatures who wreak a lot of havoc and each come with their own plans, wishes, longings and needs.
On top of that we have loads of politics. There is a vampire gang war going on, there is some mystery killer who has who knows what kind of motive. There is a shifter faction who all of a sudden came to a certain place for who knows what. And of course we have the humans and their worries because more and more people end up dead without anyone knowing why. It really sounds like an interesting mix that will keep every reader on the tip of their toes.
But like I already said, I just don't feel it. Maybe it's the writing, maybe it's because there's physical interaction between the characters without an emotional bond to explain why they're so attracted to each other in the first place. Maybe it's because I'm not a fan of giving a girl a stake and some weapons and making her awesome, but not really giving her emotional depth. Maybe it's the fact that there's too much action and not much else. I really don't know.
It actually sounds like a severe case of "I'm simply the wrong reader for a book that will be the perfect fit for someone else."
Yeah I was really disappointed with this book, it had a lot of potential, but it left me bored, way to much irrelevant word play between the characters, and honestly I was left feeling really involved, they didn't pull me in like they should have. Sorry this was my first Mila Young book, and I was not impressed.
This is one of the worst books I have read this year. The FMC lost her parents in a violent vampire attack (happens at the beginning of the book). Another person she was close to is killed by a vampire. Yet she falls in love with a vampire master along with 2 other men. The same master who was supposedly in charge of the vampires that killed her parents. This struck me as wrong, insultingly wrong.
The vampire master doesn't even live with the vampires yet he is the master because he proclaims it so. The other vampires barely acknowledge him and definitely don't treat him like he is the boss. The vampire master is supposedly old but behaves like a 3 year old in a full meltdown.
The interactions between the FMC and the love interests seem toxic to me. I don't like most of the characters in the book and downright hate several of them.
The FMC's best friend pays for the FMC to come back to her hometown of Anchorage and fix the supernatural problem. The best friend doesn't seem to be bothered that a single woman is going to fix a turf war and could be killed or severely injured. The FMC of course is worried about the best friend getting injured and tries to blocks any attempts at help and feels super guilty about any help.
She is utterly, unbelievably, jaw-droppingly pathetic and TSTL. I stuck it out longer than I should have, waiting to see all her badass talk pay off. But she traipses into deadly situations with no plan and just raw dumbassery over and over - at least three times I can think off of the top of my head, just in the first half.
And the guys are cardboard cutout tough guys, with repetitive and narcissistic internal monologues that made me roll my eyes so hard I got a headache. They were total asshats.
Fun and intense read that flows well and is full of all things vamp and undeniable chemistry
This was quite the reading ride and a great series intro. We get clear world building and an introduction to all the main players in this romance - but lots of details about them have yet to be revealed ;) I liked the gritty vampire war aspects and how sassy V was. She surprised the lot of them with her skills, determination, bravery and talent when it comes to dealing with supernatural bad guys. A fallen angel, a demon and an ancient vampire are an intriguing array of men to fall for and I am looking forward to what comes next. Good fun!
What a good introduction into this series Night Kissed was. If you are looking for a good paranormal book to read to take your mind off things, I think I found it for you.
Night Kissed is about Veronica a college student with a weird job. So what happens when you are rescued by three mega hot supernatural guys? You try not to drool, that's what. After all Orion, Logan and Seth are sexy, dark and have secrets. Intriguing I know. I am just like Veronica, they hooked me quickly. Plus side too is that they do not like each other. I so enjoy them having to work together.
So be warned there is a cliffy but to me that just makes me need book two that much faster. So give Night Kissed a try, there is plenty of romance, action, and mystery.
Yeah. This story just didn’t really do much for me - especially after being likened to Anita Blake - so when Veronica hauls butt to help her friend I thought there would be some action. Instead there was some mild snark, jealous guys, a vampire coup in progress (with almost no backstory), and a protagonist who I thought... assumed?… would be powerful and potentially magical after the prologue, but ended up being pretty average.
I didn’t like Seth or Orion a whole lot. They seem to have a problem with boundaries and consent. And the dysfunctional relationship between the guys isn’t sexy at all. They just come off as a$$hats. Plus the whole bear shifter plot just fizzled out. I think it’s one and done for me.
A Vampire, A demon and A fallen angel all go to a bar... that didn't actually happen but if it did - it would be just as good as this book! possesive Characters and a MC who just couldn't figure out who to kill. It sucks you in from the very start. A definite must read if you love mila's books!
Whoa! Action packed perfectly written deeply developed characters and story lines... loved every minute and am very much looking forward to the next book in the series... Well done!
This Heroine is sassy and fiesty and kick butt i love it. Mila is a fantastic writer and i will look for more by Jordan also. i cant wait to read the next book to this series
Loved this book. Veronica moves to Alaska to help a friend out. She never expects to meet three very different males who turn her world upside down. This was a thrilling ride.
Vampire Slayer - Veronica (FMC) is right in the middle of a Vampire Hostile Takeover/War when shes asked to come to Anchorage to help a friend. Unexplained deaths, Warring clans, A Vampire Clanmaster - Orion, A Demon - Seth and A Fallen Angel - Logan. Oh boy do these guys steam up this book and my kindle!! Veronica is one hell of a character. Quick- witted, Kick*** and full of confidence. The dynamic between her and the guys is a brilliant read. Ill be on tenterhooks waiting for the next book now
The plotline is basically a territory dispute between elders, which... okay. Boring. Not much to it at all. The FMC is Veronica, who hunts vamps after watching her parents get murdered as a kid. Okay. I've read probably 3 dozen series like that, with better magic systems. Then there's the insta-lust bullshit between her and the monsters, they know nothing about each other except everybody is pretty. It's just boring and unimaginative.🤷🏻♀️
Night Kissed by Mila Young and Jordan Crow is the first book in the Chosen Vampire Slayer series. The authors work together to introduce readers to a young woman by the name of Veronica and the job she takes on in Anchorage, Alaska, a place that used to be her home. Tragedy struck Veronica at a young age, and it forever changed her into something more than human. Now, a war is brewing in Anchorage and a friend has called her in to ascertain what is exactly going on as humans are being impacted as well. What Veronica finds isn’t exactly what she was expecting…or prepared for. Night Kissed is an engaging novel that I enjoyed from beginning to end. I do enjoy a feisty character, but there were moments of where I wanted Veronica to have more sense. She’s a bit too flippant for me and doesn’t always seem to really think things through. The authors make comparisons to another famous character, by another famous author, but for me…it doesn’t really play out like that. Veronica is her own character, but for someone who is a slayer I found that I had higher expectations of her. I like that she drops everything to go help her friend out. She has a lot of skills, and I like the abilities that she uses, but I can’t help but wonder if there is more under the surface than the authors are showing us at this time. The men in this book – Seth, Logan, and Orion all pique my interest, but especially Logan. He’s the strong silent type and the authors really pique my interest at his story. We get bits and pieces of the guys stories throughout, but I want to know more. I love that Seth is so obvious as to what he is. I love that the authors don’t hide what he truly is. Is it wrong that I like it when the Seth and Logan have darker thoughts toward just about everyone around them? LOL! I like and appreciate that their first thought when they see Veronica isn’t about “how beautiful she is” or how “captivated they are by her” on some random level. Instead it’s immediately, she’s a nuisance, let’s take care of her and be done with it. This book is packed with drama. I love it. The guys can’t step anywhere without having to deal with something in some form or another. My disappointment with this book comes in the form of Veronica. I was really hoping that we’d get to see more of her process. Her learning information piece by piece from the paranormals around her, the humans even, and the various death sites that she finds. I’m disappointed that these elements and scenes are glossed over so heavily when it is the whole reason why she is even back in Anchorage. While we see the fighting between the groups, I feel that there is more going on than just the obvious power play at work. I like and appreciate that there isn’t any “insta” romance or lust with this book. There is a slight build to it all, but things do get hot and steamy between the characters. I like that things seem to be a slow build a this point between the characters as they dance around each other, and this intrigues me and pulls me along eager for more to come. I am choosing to rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m choosing to take away half a star, because I feel that 1) the story is unfulfilled in certain aspects – Veronica not really coming up with much in her investigation and 2) I don’t mind sassy characters, but she’s a bit too flippant just to be flippant. This book being so engaging and packed with interesting characters is what kept me page-turning and eager for the next book in this series. If you have read and enjoyed books previously written especially by Mila Young then I encourage you to pick this book up and dive in.
To preface, I’m not really into RH or Why-choose romances.
Honestly, dating ONE person was stressful enough for me. The vision of multiple, while sexy, is confounding and anxiety-inducing.
That being said, this was a pretty good book. Veronica (one of my favorite names ever, thanks Veronica Mars) is an interesting enough heroine, with some vampire baggage that compels her story. She’s mysterious as well, and there’s clearly more to come with her. She’s called back to her hometown of Anchorage to deal with a vampire/shifter/vampire war that has broken out into the community, and finds herself reluctantly allied to a vampire, a fallen angel, and a demon.
Sizzle: Definitely sexy. There’s a lot happening here.
Ship factor: Meh. I can’t quite tell if this is WC or RH (I should probably read the description for the next book) but she has a connection with all 3 male leads, so that’s nice.
Feminism fails: Two things stood out to me; one, I’m just not in love with the whole “I’m-a-powerful-female-who-likes-to-be-dominated” situation. It’s not explicitly anti-feminist, but it’s a little eyebrow-raising, especially given the age difference of the characters. Second, there were some weird descriptions that again, were not feminism fails, but were perplexing. For example, who would have thought that white socks made an outfit sexy? And, at some point, Veronica trades sex for information, which is her idea, but not my favorite. Overall, the classic alphahole fail applies, but the female characters were not weak, simpering, or at each other’s throats, so that is good.
I Voluntarily reviewed a copy of "NIGHT KISSED" This story starts off with a bang pulls you right in from beginning to end with suspense, intrigue, angst, murder, danger, mystery, survival, hot stemy scenes, twists that make fir an addicting read. Veronica is a Vampire Slayer with a twist she hunts monsters, kills them riding the world of evil supernaturals after surviving the murder of her parents and almost her as well but the Vampire that tried to drain her suffered pain not being able to kill her. Veronica is requested by her BF to return to Alaska to investigate a strong of suspicious deaths upon arrival she meets three of the hottest most dangerous supernaturals she's ever seen their the things that hunt in the night a Vampire Clan Leader, A Fallen Angel & a Demon they all want her. I definitely recommend to get this book the journey Veronica, Orion, Seth & Logan take her on them beibeing her enemies she has to trust them to follow the mysterious dark path before more lives are taken. Things become more difficult as Veronica can't deny the attraction her three hotties having on her they want her as much as wants them can she survive the evil she'd sworn to kill, can she keep her heart out of it as things start to heat up you have to get this well written book to see what happens so well worth the read the ending makes you want the next book ASAP to see how they grow & become more involved.
After witnessing the murders of her parents and later her boyfriend, Veronica's decision to become a Vampire Slayer looks completely natural and understandable. When she is called by her friend Lian back to Anchorage to help investigate the increased murder rate, she does not hesitate for a second. Only, arriving to the city suffering from Vampire clans war and the intervention of bear shifters, she meets three men - monsters, in her usual comprehension - she never expected to have a pull on her. And the odd trio of vampire, fallen angel, and demon, has their hands full with the delicate situation in the region. Interesting vampire/supernatural story full of action, drama, clashing emotions, and unwelcome attraction. Veronica is definitely an intriguing characters, not only because of her skills and attitude, but also due to the hint of her being more than just your regular mortal woman. What exactly remains a mystery. Her three "romantic interests" (it's more of lust, passion, or desire, than romance) each have their own allure, hard edges, aura of danger, and the promise of something "more" yet to be revealed. The story developed fast, and with the ending there is definitely the promise to deliver more action, more drama, more emotional turmoil, and more steam in the next installment, so I am looking forward to it.
Veronica is a monster slayer, and she's very good at her job. Her best friend calls her to come back to Alaska to investigate some suspicious deaths, and Veronica takes the next flight up north to a city which is no longer like she remembers. There's a war going on between the supernatural creatures, and she finds herself suddenly in the middle of it. Of course, it might have something to do with a trio of gorgeous monsters she finds she can't resist. Things keep getting worse, and Veronica will have to decide which monsters she wants to fight and hope her heart lets her choose the right path.
This is a fantastic start to this reverse harem paranormal romance series. Veronica kicks butt, but oh, the three amazing men. I don't even know where to start! Orion is a vampire older than most and the world has gotten sort of boring until Veronica comes into it. I love his cool head and cold rage. Seth is a demon that is smoking hot! And Logan, the fallen angel, is the biggest sexy mystery of all. The men have a long standing complicated relationship which I can't wait to learn more about. There are many layers to the plot, and I am eager to see where this series takes us.
Veronica survived through a trauma in her childhood involving vampires and is now studying at college while also a vampire slayer. She really enjoys the chase and the chance to save people from the trauma that she went through. When she is called in to investigate a chain of unexplained deaths in Alaska she meets three of the hottest and most dangerous monsters she has ever seen - a demon (Seth), a fallen angel (Logan) and a vampire (Orion). She has to learn to trust these monsters with her life in order to solve the murders while trying to deny her attraction to them all. As things heat up (in many ways) she knows that things will never be the same again for her. Can she survive the evil she is sworn to kill as well as the ones she has let into her heart?
This was a good start to the series and it was great to meet Veronica and the three guys that were fundamental to her ability to solve the murders but also became a part of her private life too. I enjoyed the plot with the clan and the workers who had an unusual payment for their work. Full of mysteries to be solved and drama plus danger. Easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.
DNF'd it. Just another super special pink haired girl under the age of 21 who is uber super awesome at killing the super bad guys despite how young she is and the fact it seems like she has absolutely zero training. Also a lot of talk about how badass she is without actually showing shes badass.
Like normally if you continually tell me someone is badass Im automatically gunna assume they aren't because you could be showing me they are instead of talking about it. Like how about having her be in a battle that she wins before being like shit! I have that assignment due as she runs back to her dorm to slam it out. Or perhaps have her describe her training because I felt like someone just handed this teenager a knife and was like have at 'er! And let them loose on the general populace.
Also the main male leads were contrived and so cookie cutter it wasn't even funny. You realize you can have male leads be badass while also being softies to those around them right? Like they dont all have to be snarky, sarcastic, and possessive assholes. You can have them have more depth than just lusty asshole who treat women like property and objects to own.
First off, I will say I am a big fan of Mila's. I have loved everything I have read and this book is no exception.
There is an underlying mystery that continues to expand. No pretty bows to tie things up at the end of book one - we get to the edge of the rabbit hole and are shoved in. I am dying to get my hands on book 2! No book hangover. I felt the story was complete. All I feel is excitment knowing there is more to come.
All 3 guys know there is something special and different about Veronica. We don't quite get to know what that is yet. I am so excited to learn more about her and her special abilities.
If you are already a fan - this is a great story. I will be bingeing as each new story comes out. Definite reread potential.
If you are new to Mila, welcome! This story offers shifters, vampires, angels, reverse harem, all with an underlying mystery of what is really going on in Anchorage besides a clan war.
I received a free copy of this story and am voluntarily leaving a honest review.
This had a slow start but it was definitely a very good read. It took a bit for me to get into it and become invested in the story and characters but once I was invested I was very invested and wanted more from these characters. Veronica is something unique and can’t be killed by vampires. We don’t get a lot of information about her in the beginning and most of what we learn is in flashbacks which was interesting. She splits her time between school and vampire hunting with her strange and special talent. But then she got a phone call from her best friend back home and she had to go back and try to help. She gets thrown into things she had no idea about and winds up being attracted to some very different men. I am definitely excited for the next book and think it’ll get even better as this story continues. Each guy brings something unique to the table and has something different for Veronica. Now she has to figure out what is going on and how she has these strange powers.
3.5 stars It took me a while to get into this story but I did enjoy it. I also struggled with the world building, I needed more explanation as I had no idea who knew what or what might or might not exist. Veronica is a vampire slayer who travels to Anchorage at the request of her friend to help out with the vampire problem. I enjoyed the overall story, I liked the dynamics between Orion, Seth and Logan, it was interesting to see how they interacted with each other. But I didn't quite get the initial attraction between Veronica and the guys. I couldn't make my mind up with Veronica, she had an interesting background and I'm intrigued to know more about how that has affected her abilities but I can't say I warmed to her straight away. There was lots of action in the book but still lots to be revealed in the next one.
Night Kissed is an intriguing start to a new series.
Veronica and her parents are brutally attacked by vampires when she was a young girl. Veronica’s parents die. Veronica survives, but something in her is changed. Veronica is now a college student and a vampire slayer. Using the “gifts” she got in the attack, Veronica splits time as a college student by day and bad mamma jamma slayer by night.
A phone call from her best friend brings Veronica back to Anchorage and throws her deep into a conflict she was unprepared for. And doesn’t count the three men she finds herself attracted to.
Orion, Anchorage vampire clan master, knows he needs reinforcements to keep his city under his control. An old enemy has enlisted bear shifter and infiltrated Anchorage with eyes on taking over. Logan and Seth made deals with Orion because he could deliver something they wanted. Nobody expected a fiesta, human, vampire slayer tone a prize they all wanted.
Night Kissed sets readers up and deliciously knocks them over with action and heat. Moon Kissed promises to deliver even more!
A stunning hidden reality for readers to get lost in
Veronica, a college student with an unusual job, is rescued and detained by three supernatural beings, Seth a demon, Logan a fallen angel, and Orion a vampire, after a bar fight erupts. As the story progresses the past still haunts her, a lack of knowledge may hinder, and getting to the root of the problem is not as easy as she thought. Mila Young and Jordan Crow crafted a stunning hidden reality for readers to get lost in. Veronica is on a mission of justice that leans heavily toward revenge and her “protectors” are on a voyage of discovery they didn’t realize they needed. I can’t wait for Moon Kissed to come out to see where this group goes.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
I have to admit that I love pretty much everything that Mila writes so I knew I had to read this new start to a series. I was totally blown away. We get a hunter that found out her odd skills through accident and then honed her skills. Her BFF invites her back to her hometown when lots of deaths start happening in the supernatural world. Veronica is totally awesome and can take care of herself while throwing out plenty of sass. Ready for anything she is totally surprised when she meets the vampire in charge of the area as well as a demon and an angel. Makes for some interesting interactions to say the least as they all try to figure out what is going on. Makes for a great read that fans of the genre are sure to enjoy. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This is definitely different from what Mila normally writes, but it’s special because she wrote it with her husband. Even though Night Kissed started off slow, it had great character building and backstory for the Veronica and the guys. This book was filled with action, supernaturals, and a slow burn romance that kept me turning the pages. I’m not exactly sure how I felt about Veronica. She was strong willed, good at hunting vampires, and curious- I guess I just didn’t really connect with her. I don’t have a favorite of the guys, but I definitely prefer Logan and Seth over Orion. I thought it was unique that a vampire clanmaster chose a fallen angel and demon as his right and left hand men. As someone who dreams of going to Alaska, I loved that this book was set there. In a way, this book had The Originals vibes, but in reverse and besides being a hunter, I want to know what Veronica actually is since I think there’s more to it. I’m very interested to see what Mila and Jordan come up with next in the series! *I received a free copy from the Black Cat ARC Team in exchange for an honest review
