Content wise, it did what I expected it to. I wanted to get a feel for what I would be getting myself into if I purchased a 3D printer, and this seems to give a good summary and gives some good pointers and some initial suggestions for a potential newbie. I am not sure how often this is updated. Based on the Printer size suggestions, they seem smaller than what I have seen as suggested printers for new users. the initial print date is about five years ago, so new technologies may have made larger printer spaces more feasable. So, this book may be a little outdated. But, again, it makes good points that are probably still relevant and useful.
The Many of the images (figures) in the book are of low enough quality/contrast that they don't provide the clarification they intend. But, these books are printed by amazon and are probably not quality controlled, as the author clarifies. He does offer a PDF version after purchasing the print version, which may have much clearer images. I did not request the PDF, since the information that I received was sufficient for my needs.
This is a good book form someone curious about 3D printers, and wants to get a summary of requirements before diving in.
This is an excellent book. In researching 3d printing prior to buying a printer, I have read several other books that claim to offer guidance for the beginner. This is by far the best, with clear descriptions of what is involved, practical examples and detailed instructions for a first print. In addition, common problems that the novice may/will encounter are described with their causes and suggestions for overcoming them.
