Obey and submit. That seemed to be all he wanted from me. He expected so little, and yet, so much. Hervé: I rule this planet. I will settle for nothing less than absolute control. And my tastes are dark. She is my pet. My plaything. I will train her for my use. I want her to desire the pain I will inflict. She only exists for my pleasure. Until she gets taken from me. Without her, my world is shattered. But make no mistake. I'm coming for her. I am a pet kitten. I have no name. From birth we are kept in captivity and prepared to be sold. My owner does whatever he wants with me. His rules? Obey and submit. When we are forced apart, I realize I need him. I crave his complete mastery. His pain. His pleasure. No one else can take the place of my owner.
Publisher’s This is a dark, steamy sci-fi romance. It features total power exchange with some potentially triggering scenes, along with an HEA. If any of these offend you, please do not purchase.
Aria is an author of dark erotic romance. Her heroes are not always immediately obvious, and neither are the villains. Her books often have elements of horror, and the characters at the end of a story are forever changed by the events that befell them. But she always makes sure there's a happy ending, even if the characters have to work for it.
Aria also writes the warm fuzzy romance stuff as Katie Douglas.
“Alpha’s Kitty” caught me entirely off guard and is not even close to what I envisioned. Unlike the typical pet play novel, the author took the narrative in an entirely different and innovative direction. The story-line is genuinely dark (please heed the publishers warning!), strikingly creative and totally unique. Additionally, there are several moments in the book that had me asking myself… wtf!? Professionally written, totally riveting and extremely fast-paced… at times, I could not determine if I was simply appalled by certain aspects of the story-line or transfixed by a macabre curiosity to find out what happens next. The inhumane and oppressive treatment suffered by the hybrid-humans is reinforced through fundamental Marxist ideology, giving it an Animal Farm ambience but in no way is the novel a political manifesto or assertion. The story-line is simply a dark, erotic romance utilizing the theme of the untenable subjugation of differing species and the ultimate outcome.
Set in a distant (arguably dystopian) future some humans have evolved, through experimental DNA splicing, into various species… part human, part animal and purportedly non-bipedal. Due to the human-hybrid genetic disposition, unadulterated bipedal humans throughout the galaxy have enslaved the crossbreeds, considering the hybrids to be of inferior intelligence and emotional intellect. The heroine, Kitty, is one of those individuals, part human and part feline, living with other litter-mates in a kitten breeding facility. At maturity, the kittens are processed for marketing, those deemed unacceptable are callously destroyed and the suitable kittens sold as pets on various planets throughout the star system.
The narrative follows Kitty’s journey from the feline breeding planet, to her purchase by the hero and planet leader Hervé, though her training as simply an object procured to satisfy his carnal desires. Initially, Hervé appears comfortable with the slave culture embedded within his society and views his pet as nothing more than a possession. As events unfold his mindset undergoes a transformation, further developing the positive aspects of his character and emphasizing the qualities that render Hervé redeemable. Kitty’s portrayal as a sympathetic character is established early on and strengthened through her thoughts as well as experiences at the breeding facility, to the inhumane practices on Hervé’s planet. The story-line is compelling, imbued with mystery, suspense, deception and intrigue. Told from dual perspectives “Alpha’s Kitty” is a deeply unsettling read but also a remarkably rewarding experience as well.

So I have to be honest and say this is my first real pet story. I have read some BDSM stories were the men like to treat their subs as pets but NOTHING like this. And I have to say it took a bit of getting used to, but it did not make me want to stop reading it. If anything, it was really an exciting book. Aria brings this book to life with a sexy story and mystery that keeps you guessing on the who, what, and why. I did enjoy this story much.
So I really liked this story. I liked that this is the future and in order for humans to survive on other planets that have had to change there DNA. Which created humanoids with animal features.
Kitty is literally a humanoid with cat features. And she is also one of the most coveted species out there as a "pet". She also is protective of her sisters. And in order to save one of her sisters from punishment she takes the blame for something her sister does. This ends up getting her sent to a specific planet that alters her for her future owner. One of the things they do is cut off her tail. This makes her really sad and so she is the last one sold at the "pet shop". She ends up getting sold to the leader of the planet Herve. Herve has always wanted a kitty for himself. Usually they are sold out quickly, but this time Kitty gets bought by Herve's servant and he gets to bring her home and train her.
I enjoyed how different this book was from others in its genre. It was HAWT and steamy, but also had great world building and an awesome storyline. I loved the ending. And I would totally read another book in this world if the author wrote another one.
Well this was definitly a first time for me reading a book like this. At first it threw me but as I read along I started enjoying it. This book was full of entrigue , some sexy scenes and love in a twisted way. If you like to read fantasy then this book is for you and recommended by me
—>>> Sold at a pet store when she reached eighteen years of age, Kitty was taken from her safe litter and shipped in space to a pet store, where she was purchased for a master, Hervé Founder, who has been wanting such a humanoid pet species for so long. While he was a master who was patient and caring enough, the rest of the privileged masters on the planet treated their own humanoid pets with utter savagery and with depraved and sometimes detrimental intentions. Such acts are amongst the darkest of inhumane treatment, but when Kitty is separated from her master and given a chance at freedom, will she take it, without Hervé in this new possible future? Change is coming in their unbalanced society, and Kitty and her master experience it firsthand.
Very good erotic 'pet' sci-fi dark romance. I found this one to be much more than a typical 'sexy/erotic' sci-fi dark romance. Although it predominantly focuses on 'Herve' (anti-H), the ruling Alpha Commander of an entire planet & his new acquisition, Kitty (h) a DNA-modified feline-humanoid 'pet' species from another planet, there's much more involved in this story. Kitty only knows her 'mama' & littermates & that they are all destined to be purchased 'pets' of future owners. Kitty cannot read or write & cannot walk upright. She has a tail, feline ears & nose & fur. She is happy with her mama & sisters. But then comes the day she & her sisters are removed from the breeding facility to be sent out for sale. And that is when the horror begins . . . . Herve is Alpha for an entire planet, he's a mildly sexual sadist with a healthy sexual appetite but tired of the parade of one time encounters he's experienced throughout his life. He's lonely but doesn't have the time or inclination to have a long term monogamous partner & decides a pet 'kitten', known for their submission, sexual desires & responsiveness, would be perfect. But they are an extremely rare commodity & difficult to acquire . . . . But Herve does manage to purchase Kitty. He then begins, in an emotionally cold & firm manner, to 'train' the innocent female for his specific pleasure needs. And while he isn't cruel nor does he harm her, he does include pain as well as pleasure in Kitty's training. But the training as well as the close & extended contact with her 'Master' begins to bring forth emotions & questions inside Kitty she's never before had or experienced. The author presents alternating POV's for Herve & Kitty so the reader understands just how both of them are impacting the other emotionally even though the main characters don't realize it. The plot includes a slave resistance movement, government politics, danger, suspense, death as well as graphic & violent sex with enslave species. Overall, this is a very good, exciting, intensely erotic sci-fi story; but be aware, it contains some dark, triggering & violent scenarios.
It Grabbed My attention and focus so strong I could not put it down. A word of advice when you get your copy. Grab a snack, a comfy seat, kick back and relax. You will not be moving until you finish this bad boy here. Remarkable job. Thanks for sharing. "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review.
When I signed up for this book review I thought I was getting a book about traditional pet play. No. I was wrong. This is a sci-fi alien romance featuring humanoid-like kitten females. Fur, ears, tails, walk on their knees and forearms kittens.
I like Aria Adams books. I like her world-building and characters. I like the BDSM elements as well.
This particular story I had problems with the content mostly but also the storyline. I’m cool with humanoid-like kitten females. I’m cool with aliens. I’m down with alien sex acts. What I’m not ok with in any book I read is torture. And torture games for others entertainment. This book had all of that and a messy middle. Around the 40% mark I was bored and thought about DNF’ing the book. I stuck with it but skimmed a lot. The third act was disconnected and rushed.
I feel like the plot-twist was put in to create the breaking apart of the couple and for only that beat completion. Was there a purpose beyond that, in the end Kitty went back with her Master.
The more I think about this book the more I’m bothered by it and feel nauseous. It’s a miss for me from Aria Adams and that makes me sad because I really like her writing.
FYI-
Sexual content: manual, vaginal, anal sex. Anal play. Submissive training. Sexual torture. Refusal of medical care (not main characters). Weird alien submissive games. Forced large amounts of semen in anal cavity, rape for entertainment.
Violence/ Torture/ Gore: claws removed, tail cut off while awake, off-page fights to the death between subs.

Alpha's Kitty contains some very powerful themes of indoctrination, oppression, ignorance and greed, though they are touched on only lightly. It is also quite a dark read at times, with some very cruel treatment of those considered slaves and therefore 'less'.
Overall Herve's treatment of Kitty isn't too bad, though he does consider her more a 'thing' than a person at first. However even he has been subject to social conditioning, believing that his care of and regard for his kitten is a weakness in his character. There is a part of me that would have loved the author going into more depth on these issues and exploring the dynamic of the planet more. However Alpha's Kitty isn't that book, instead it is a well written, very hot, dark erotic sci-fi romance.
Whilst Kitty's dependency on, and feelings for, Master might be more Stockholm Syndrome and brainwashing, I simply don't care. She cares for him deeply and needs his dominance to find her own happiness and that's all that matters. I really liked how Kitty's character developed in the story, allowing her to establish a more consensual relationship with her Master.
I also really enjoyed the 'slave resistance' sub-plot. It added greatly to the story and allowed both Kitty and Herve to grow as individuals, learning some truths about how the planet Corellia needed to change. The connection between them was nicely portrayed and it was easy to believe in their feelings for the other.
Overall this was a very pleasant and engaging afternoon read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy erotic sci-fi and don't mind a dark edge to it.
This story is really not for everyone ! It’s a dystopian novella with human hybrids mix with animal it’s very disturbing. (Alien)
Virgin heroine Pet play Human- hybrid trafficking Animal modification / alteration ( kitten become more human) Non con body modification ( clit piercing) Removal of body part ( tail) Groping Collar / Leashed Spanking Anal play / sex Use of Speculum in ass Putting liquid in ass Control orgasm SA / Rape (not by MMC and it’s not the FMC who is assaulted) Separation ( five weeks and faithful) No sharing No cheating HEA
So, we're in a science fiction dystopia where the human race no longer lives on Earth; they travel around the galaxy. However, they have now become hybrids with animals. Each planet has its own specific hybrid species. Our heroine, Kitty, comes from the Felynes planet. She is a kitten hybrid who walks on all fours and eats and drinks like an animal. On her planet, her species is controlled by bipedal hybrid human who manipulate them into thinking they're not intelligent and can't do anything on their own. This is reinforced because they've been trained since birth to act like real animals. When they reach adulthood at eighteen, they are sold to the highest bidder, killed if flawed, or sent to a barbaric planet if they are disobedient.
Kitty is sent to a barbaric planet called Corellia, where our hero, Hervé, is the alpha. He wants a Felynes to be his sex slave. On this planet, sex slaves are treated horribly, constantly assaulted, and all the bipedal human hybrids love to hurt and share them. However, Hervé doesn't want to share his kitten, except when it comes to punishment if she misbehaves. Overall, he treats her relatively well compared to the other masters. One day, they attend a party where slaves are forced to compete, tortured, assaulted, and subjected to every imaginable horror. The heroine feels deeply disturbed by this, and Hervé tries to comfort her. However, as part of the event, Hervé has to share her with a female hybrid for an hour. This woman loves to torture but has agreed not to penetrate or break Kitty-only minor tortures like electrocution or physical punishment. Hervé watches to ensure his boundaries for Kitty are respected.
Hervé agrees to this because he want to kill the leader of a group of rebels who want to overthrow the system on the planet, stop the abuse of sex slaves, and teach them that they can walk upright and that they are, in fact, intelligent. That night, the rebels rescue several sex slaves, including Kitty. Now safe, she tries to understand everything that's happening but finds herself missing her master, Hervé, even though he allowed the woman to torture her but cannot cuz she was rescue by the rebels group.
Hervé believed that Kitty was killed during the rebels’ rescue, and it deeply disturbed him because he had begun to develop feelings for her. Determined to uncover the truth about the rebel group, Hervé devises a plan to infiltrate them and find his missing Kitty. Eventually, they are reunited, and we learn that Sergue, one of Hervé’s commanders and a supposed ally, is actually the villain. Sergue has been secretly allowing the rebel group to escape, but only so he can capture some of the slaves for his own twisted purposes. He enjoys torturing them for personal gain and is deeply involved in the darker side of the system Hervé is beginning to turn against.
Overall I love this book but feel the end was rushed want more of them and the sisters and everything !

Kitty Momma had told her Kitties of the wonderful lives they would have …. Kitty would never forget the day she had been removed from her mother along with her two sisters to be taken away to a new owner, someone that would love them and consider them a prized possession if only this had been the truth. Loaded into a pet carrier she had stepped in to accept the damage her sister had done to the conveyor belt and the for this she had been shipped to Corella to a new master but in preparation she had undergone such terrible pain and had lost both her tail ad her nails everything that had made her a Kitty, she had thought she would die from the pain and separation from her sisters however, it’s amazing what a Felyne can endure when they have to an inner strength they were unaware of even existing within their inner psyche and inner physical ability when needed. Alpha Herve had always wanted a Kitty all of his own however they were hard to acquire and the last batch that had arrived on Corellia had all been snatched up before he even had a chance to view those available so he had asked his assistant to chose one he believed would fulfil his preferences and his choice had been more than he could have even envisioned. When his girl is snatched away from him believed dead he realises that he can still feel her and that he has to self out there in an effort to discover if she is dead or still alive, he knows that there are those on the inside working against the federation and he is determined to discover what the action is even if it cists either his or his assistant Bertrand help. This is a wonderful book that I am sure you will be very happy to read; I know that you will be captivated by this wonderful tale. I voluntarily received and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
How in the heck did this lady manage to get so many freaking 5 star reviews come on people leave legit reviews or don't bother period! I don't care if authors give you free copies of their books don't let that sway your review! When I first started this book I thought it was going to be one of those kinds where humans dress up as animals...ummm...no these aliens are actually half breed of animals and humans. This was some seriously weird crap for me but that only got worse when the alpha took kitty to a party. I can't even describe to you what went on at that party because Amazon would remove my review. Let's just say some troll like alien with a bazooka size thang thang attacks these alien girls that were competing for their masters. Also the troll alien his ummm essence yes I guess that's the best word to use when he reaches completion his essence burns like fire for the women. So not only are they getting ripped apart they have to try and endure until he comes to his climaxing end then they get to endure the burn for their sick masters...but that's not even the worse part before the troll is released upon them these women had just got done receiving something you have to take when ur stomach is constipated (hint hint starts with an E) they all got Troll Essance E*namas and then had to waddle to a huge plug and try and insert without spilling!!! Neither of the women managed and we literally had to read about these women's explosive releases and where the previous slave that had competed prior got exploded on and in her mouth oh and they actually made her swallow! I'm sorry I've read dark plenty of dark romance novels but this was just freaking disgusting and twisted!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH FAKE REVIEWS THIS IS NOT A GOOD READ!!
Alpha’s Kitty is a stand-alone dark sci-fi romance (please read the publisher’s note). Kitty has been raised knowing she will find a master, and if she’s good, maybe her master will be loving. When she has to save her sister, Kitty is sent to a harsh world, where masters subjugate their slaves and pets, and her master is Alpha of them all. Hervé has always wanted a kitty of his own, and will do anything to keep her his and safe. But when Kitty dreams of love, how can they be happy?
Oh my goodness, please don’t forget to read the publisher’s note! Kitty and Hervé definitely have an interesting story to tell, especially as the book progresses. The beginning was honestly really rough for me to get through. I felt all of the negative emotions for this book in the beginning and I wanted nothing more than to give Kitty a huge hug and walk away from the book. I had no idea how Ms. Adams was going to pull a HEA out of this book, so I was determined to keep reading. But, it turns slightly political, slightly cultish, oddly sweet, and both Kitty and Hervé get to kind of see what freedom/being a slave feels like for a bit to understand their world isn’t perfect. Kitty definitely finds strength, courage, and a bit of who she wants to be while Hervé realizes that just because he’s Alpha might not always make him right. I loved what he was willing to do to find answers, though. This book has an interesting ending, and Kitty and Hervé have a unique connection. It would be a cool story, but it just felt unnecessarily dark for me.
Ms Adams' books always make quite tough reading but this one is also a little bit disturbing in places, if that is the kind of future the human race drags itself into, thank goodness I won't be around to see it. However, as always the writing is excellent. Kitty lives on a planet about a thousand years in the future when the Earth has been totally consumed and abandoned. Humans now living on many other planets have been experimenting with introducing animal DNA into their systems thereby creating hybrids part human part animal. Kitty is in fact a Phelyne and is treated as no more than a pet kitten, brought into a world where she has no name or expectations and isn't even aware that she can in fact walk on two legs. Expecting to be taken and given to a master who will love and cherish her, she is shocked and devastated when the first thing to happen is she is violated by having her tail chopped off and her claws ripped out, then she is dumped into a pet store. Eventually she is purchased for Herve the Alpha of the planet she has been brought to his home to commence her training to be his sex slave. Parts of this very dark tale are quite disturbing and parts are quite uplifting and there are some eye wateringly violent scenes, however there is a message of positivity throughout. I read this book in one sitting as it was quite a quick read but it wasn't my favourite read by Ms Adams.
Let me start by saying I was a bit confused about the stories beginning. When I read that Kitty was from the planet Felyna. I didn’t think much of it. Till she and her sisters were taken to be placed and she experienced the worst of it. Having her fur and claws removed. That is when I was like oooooooooook so she was sort of a cat. I thought she was more human and was wearing a tail and ears. NOPE. Just wanted to clear that up first.
Now once all that is done, Kitty is taken to Corellia where she has no say. You either obey and submit or get punished. Herve’ always wanted a kitty and finally got one. But he also has to train her and instruct her on everything. For a man that was supposed to be hard and dark, he sure is not as dark as I thought. He has compassion and cares a great deal for Kitty. Then things take a turn. Kitty starts to learn she is more than a pet. She can be free. She still misses Herve’ but he made her lose hope when he lent her to someone else. I felt for Herve’ but at times you realize that regardless pet or no, everyone has a right to be free and not treated like a thing. It took him time to realize how Kitty truly felt about the whole slave thing. It was an eye opening read. I will warn those that there is pet/slave play, enemas, and pet fighting. If you can’t stomach some of the dark parts, this may not be a book for you.
A well-written Sci-fi fantasy with a GREAT ending! While Sci-fi fantasy is something I have enjoyed reading, even when the consent is dubious and the resulting tale dark, I have to say that at its beginning, “ALPHA’S KITTY” is not one of my favorites. However, I kept reading and loved the rest of this romance! “ALPHA’S KITTY” has earned a 5/5 because it is well-written, has some far-out and fantastical characters that were well-developed and in the fantasy sense totally believable and loveable. Even the storyline was developed well and by the book’s end was in retrospect, something I truly enjoyed! So, to clarify my seemingly contradictory statement, once past the set-up and first part of the book that I personally found so painful (as a cat lover), I loved “ALPHA’S KITTY.” My sensitive cat-related hang-ups have been mentioned only to encourage other cat-sensitive readers to KEEP reading! “ALPHA’S KITTY” is a STEAMY romance, and if you like Sci-fi romantic fantasy, then “ALPHA’S KITTY” should be your next purchase! Romance readers will love the way it ends! I voluntarily read an advanced copy of “ALPHA’S KITTY” and this is my honest, voluntary review! “ALPHA’S KITTY” by Aria Adams has earned a 5/5-STAR recommendation because it is a fun read. Get your copy today. Happy pages! 😉
This author has created a complex, deviously dark Sci-Fi alien “Pet” romance. It definitely caught my attention & I was completely captivated until the last page was turned. It has a well-paced, descriptive story-line & a plot filled with excellent scene descriptions, combined with unexpected occurrences & events. The characters are unique with complex personalities, some of the characters displayed compliance with existing laws & determination combined with some deviousness to get their goals, while another character continues to struggle with acceptance in a new & unfamiliar world. There is: a female felyne (half human & half feline) is sent to a “Pet Shop” in space to be purchased (Kitty aka Kitrina), the planet leader & purchaser of “Kitty” (Hervé Founder), indoctrination, government politics, political intrigue, a slave resistance organization, slavery, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, mystery, danger, extreme violence, torture, death, BDSM, sexual torture, dubious/non-consensual scenes, humiliation, inhumane treatment, betrayal, explosions, liberation, devious plans, confrontations, defiance, discovery, conflict, choices, compromises, happiness, love, explicit steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion. I look forward to future books from this author & would recommend this dark Sci-Fi alien “Pet” romance to people who enjoy reading this genre.
I was given an ARC of this book, so I won't include spelling/grammar errors in my review since I hope they'll be fixed before publication.
This is a futuristic, scifi, darkish romance about a woman who is half-human/ half-feline and the man who buys her.
The reader is thrust straight into the world with no explanations of its mythology. It took me awhile to completely get a picture of Kitty, the heroine. Due to that, the book started a little slow for me and is reflected in my rating. Once I got further in, I understood the world and characters better.
Through no fault of her own, Kitty is sent to a bad planet. She is bought for Hervé, the hero. Hervé calls himself a sadist, but he treats Kitty very well and their romance isn't really dark; the darkness comes from what happens on the planet. Kitty and Hervé both grow and learn about each other as the story progresses. It ended up being a sweeter story than I expected.
There is explicit language and sex, so be warned if you are offended by either. This is actually a safe read, with no OW/OM drama and no cheating.
As noted before, I received an ARC of the book in exchange for my unbiased review.
Kitty believed her future was in the hands of someone who would care for her, treasure her. That is where all good kittens go or so she has been told In a snap decision meant to protect someone, she loved Kitty abandoned any chance of happiness and instead was sent to where the bad pets go. Poor Kitty to never know love.
Herve has always wanted his own pet, a feline, one he could tame and train. One that would complement his own desires, after all, they were merely possessions. When the chance finally presents itself he jumps on it - almost literally I might say
Can a lifetime of ingrained beliefs and suppressed desires be set free?
I wasn't sure how this story was going to play out. I have to admit I was impressed as this story concluded that despite the missing pieces I still felt a connection to the two main characters. I truly wish it has been a bit longer. IMO a lot of things are left unanswered. There are a few holes in the plot but the overall tone and story line present strongly. Again I wish the author had completed many of the secondary and supporting scenes. Yes, I want answers!
This is a graphic tale that does not hold back - if a dark romance with touches of horror is not your usual genre I suggest you skip this one
"A Kitty, declawed. A Felyne, de-tailed. Where is PETA when you need them?"
This story was a step into the unknown for me, and while I don't regret it, I found the book darker than I'm generally desirous of. And yes, it does have a HEA, but there are some very disturbing themes here. I'm not going to spoil anything for readers other than to say there are intense scenes of sexual harm & humiliation.
It is well-written though, that I can't question. After the immediate shocking themes I started to get serious wrapped up into the suspense of the story. The last 3rd of the novel lightened up somewhat on the disturbing scale (thankfully, imo) but the storyline seemed to wrap itself up to quickly, perhaps? There were enough threads left here to be pulled I'm wondering if the author will return to either Hervé & Kitty's story with a sequel or at least this alternate universe she's set up?
I was joking that my tagline was going to be: "I have my limits, author! Particularly in regard to penile circumference." I won't, because I don't wanna trip any review censoring too soon, but...yeah, this is a dark 'un. It's a good read though, as long as you understand what you're in for.
This was a little weird for me all in all. I was a lot confused about the species of Kitty until i figured out that she was actually human taught throughout life she was a kitty. |confused already..yeah well
I think i would have done better if this was an alien/human story because then i have no preconceptions about the specie and i just check out and let the story tells itself. Here , once kitty is chosen to leave the litter as such for sale and gets taken to another planet, it becomes weird as the handlers remove her tail to make her more human like.
This is a story that a majority of people will not like. It's very close to some people boundaries and although we know Kitty is just a modified human, the way the story reads and Herve's mind towards the other subspecies it is very close call. This is a brutal story as the humanity that rules( pure un-spliced DNA types) are cruel and consider everyone else fodder.
Whilst the writing was okay and the story flowed, i was once again reminded that sometime the storytelling is too staid and very robotic by this author and i am not sure if i will be getting another of her books.
Unique and original in all facets of the story - the development and shaping of the world, the social imprinting of living beings and their worldview and the fundamental development of characters.
The whole composition is disturbing and at the same time interesting to share, sweet and extremely captivating. The urge to know how things will go on and whether everything will work out, doesn't let you rest.
The characters are well drawn and capture you from the beginning. Their actions and behaviors are comprehensible and understandable.
I wish there was something more to read from the first 1-2 months of building and shaping the relationship and bond between pet owner and pet and a little more at the end including a little preview of how the HEA is shaping up. It would have helped to endure the corruption, the sadism and the deep darkness of the ruling class.
Refreshingly unusual and interesting is the integration of class struggle, Marxist ideology and the associated abuse by the "enemy". This was fascinating and exciting.
Above all a great setting and great written in execution and in connection with SciFi I can only say: on to new worlds and galaxies
Humans have spread throughout space and done some genetic engineering as well. And they're also into slavery and weird, kinky sex parties in this Playground where their pets could easily end up either fighting to the death or taking whatever pain or pleasure their owners want them to have.
So, this isn't a real cat. The prologue explains about the deception and conditioning these future slaves endure. They don't know it's window dressing and some genetic manipulation. They think they're cats or llamas or whatever these greedy perverts dream up. For Kitty, it's very real. She feels her 'fur' and thinks she needs to crawl on four legs. Her owner is the leader of this slavery-friendly planet and he knows that he's sitting on a powder keg.
Are they 'freedom fighters,' terrorists or useful idiots? Or maybe all three? They approvingly quote Orwell, not realizing he wasn't complimenting communism in Animal Farm. This weird little book had me turning pages and genuinely surprised me several times. Best of all, somehow in this horrible world with these horrible, horrible slavers, there's a sweet little love story.
** 3 1/2 star rating I’ve never read a book like this. Very original, very unique. I’ve read many sci-fi but nothing with beings like this. They are animals with some human DNA. The humans of the planets buy them as pets. But treated as slaves in this specific planet. Herve is the Alpha of his planet and is responsible for making it run smoothly. Their technology is evolved and amazing. But the inhabitants are barbarians. They way they treat their pets is pure savagery. Alpha’s life falls into a routine. Looking for something new. He buys a pet kitten. Naming her Kitty. There is political intrigue going on in his planet along with unrest. I thought Alpha was a bit of a contradiction. He has a strong domineering presence. But he was passive when it came to the people of his planet. His relationship with Kitty is complicated because of who he is and how he wants people to perceive him. I thought the storyline and plot were very interesting. But for me there are a few unresolved issues that were not explained nor had a conclusion. I enjoyed reading this twist on sci-fi.
This book is very dark and quite unique. I feel that I am safe in saying that readers of this book will fall into three categories. The ones that love it, those that loath it and those that have a complicated relationship with it. I find myself included in the last category. I am a fan of dark romances but there was just something about this book that left me uncomfortable and to be honest I'm not 100% sure of what it was. Maybe it was the brutal treatment of the feline/humanoid pets. Maybe it was because you were suppose to consider them pets that it added a level of cruelty and force that I just didn't like the feel of. I don't know and I wish I did because some parts I did like. I liked Kitty but felt terrible for her. I thought that Herve had a softer side and was a somewhat sympathetic character. I liked the emotions that thy brought out in each other. I think that if you have one single doubt about this book you would be best to find a different one because this is no easy read. This is my candid, voluntary review.
A Dark Romance Sci-fi which Aria writes a lot of this genre. From her birth Kitty's race was raised to be submissive and to please their master. Kitty and her sister's are taken from their mother to be sold, but on their journey Kitty takes the blame for being bad and is being sent to Corellia a planet known for treating slaves badly. Meanwhile Hervé the ruler of Corellia sends his servant to buy a Kitten from the new batch and the only one left is Kitty. Naïve Kitty is then trained by Hervé to please him. To show his new kitten off he takes her to a party and gives her away to get information about a slave who's revolting about the cruelty of the treatment of slaves. Kitty doesn't like to be shared and she escapes and joins the revolution. Can Hervé show he's a change man and win his Kitten heart? Like her previous books this is heavy on BDSM and cruelty that's quite descriptive but the story plot is well written, the romantic scenes are sizzling and the characters believable for a Sci-fi romance. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.
