The Return is book 2 in the new series called Secrets of Mackinac Island by Katie Winters.
The continuing story of Elise Darby, what we know so far...her mother dies, Elise finds her diaries which sends Elise on a journey to Michigan to find out about her mother’s life before she was born, who her father is/was...but more questions arise. Guess we will have to wait for the next book...Winds of Change to find the answers or will more questions arise on her quest to finding her father??
Elise is a day dreamer. She spends too much time in her head rather than reality. Her mother obviously had an affair with a married man or soon to be married. What ever the case Allison became aware that he was not available and never involved him in their lives. That said Elise should have been more discrete in giving his name than drunkenly belting it out in a crowded bar. This really was her mother’s and Dean’s story to tell although she was the product of the relationship she did not have right to put out her parents private business. As a screenwriter she should have known to researched who this man was and made a private attempt to meet him. Let’s see what direction she takes to resolve the mess she stepped into. I’d say, get out of her head day dreaming and tune into reality.
Katie draws the reader in with this story. You know that there is going to be more as Elise heads off to Michigan to look for her father. along the way she meets Wayne and some sparks fly. but there is a mystery there too. She learns the name of her father and that there might be some things that she doesn't like about him and some people who may not like her for it. Great 2nd story and can't wait for the 3rd installment!
Elise is searching for meaning in her life, newly divorced and now her mother, who’s also her best friend, have passed away. In her mourning some of her mother’s secrets and possibly Elise’s fathers identity will be revealed in her mother’s diaries!
I’m so enthralled with this story! Katie has once again created believable characters & life circumstances. My only problem with the book is , that I don’t have book 3 to see how the remainder of the story plays out!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I enjoyed what there was if it. The author needs to drop the word “Ha” from being used so much. Also, towards the end, which was way too abrupt, it said “it was way more grand than any of the other horses on the island”; when it should , of course been houses. Elise also ‘yanked’ on too many things. Sorry to be so picky, but the book was so short I didn’t have time to forget what annoyed me. Maybe it’s still being edited.
This book was awesome! Now I can’t wait until Book 3 is released. 😊 Katie Winters really knows how to spin a story. The storyline is unbelievably good; the characters are something else; and the twists and turns are really something else again. I couldn’t put my Kindle down!! Book 3 is bound to be even better. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and can’t wait for the next one!) ❤️❤️
We've now made it to Mackinac Island and are having a great time ... I probably like this series so much because I love Mackinac Island ... looking forward to reading more of Elise's story.
4 stars for The Return (Secrets of Mackinac Island Book 2). Elise has finally found a picture and name of her father. However, she soon learns that she is not wanted on the island.
Another set of books that could have been included in one book. Silly to write such short books in their own volume. There are two remaining books that I’m not sure I will try to read. Previous books were OK.
