Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. Subtitle: Doin' It For Science!

Commander Roark is a lonely Shadow Twin, who I guess has not been let in on the scuttlebutt that the Goddess has promised that all worthy Kindred males with the tiniest sliver of a soul can have a mate, even the so-called "Unbondales" like a single Twin or a half demon or other randomly infertile males*. So he's given up on ever having a mate or biological children, and instead decides to pursue a highly specialized area of infertility treatment: Kindred/human infertility.

Through initial experiments he's determined that plain old IUI or IVF doesn't work. He theorizes there needs to be "female pleasure" to simulate "bonding sex" and initiate a Kindred/human pregnancy. But, he's also kinky, so he thinks there needs to be some Dom/sub and leather play.

Enter the lab assistant, who has only ever had lackluster sex with boring vanilla human men, and is currently in hiding from a mystery stalker. She gets to be the sexual Guinea pig (For Science!) and try out the equipment and system for simulated bonding sex, and she likes it. Likes it a lot. But he makes one little change to the breeding simulation, without telling Sammie.

The rest goes pretty much as all other "Unbondales" Kindredverse books go. Oops, he's not actually infertile, he just hadn't met his fated mate yet.

If you liked the last 26 Kindred books, or the other 20-something Kindred bride books, why haven't you already ordered this one?

*Has he considered "Unbondales" are infertile only until they meet their Goddess approved mate in order to avoid bonding in desperation to a terrible person that comes from a family of bigots? No, no he has NOT!

Poor Roark a Shadow twin burying himself in his lab work. Samantha new hire. I loved her first day on the job. Lol. You have to read it to know what I’m talking about. They build an awesome working relationship. I couldn’t put it down. It had me curious to see what Roark would next. Awesome read!

Desperation is the crux of this Kindred Tale. Samantha Grey (Sammi) is desperately seeking to escape the man who has stalked her from California to Florida. Commander Roark desperately wants Sammi, but a previous encounter with a female from Earth has left him cold. This Tales of the Kindred novel is unlike any of the others. Evangeline Anderson has done such an excellent job developing these two characters that their story just bursts to life.

Roark became so real to me that there were times I wanted to give him a good shake, telling him to wake up. Samantha needed a good talking to because of her unwillingness to voice her emotions. At times I was so caught up in their story I just wanted to yell at them both, probably the same way you’d want to tell the movie victim that the monster was waiting downstairs and not to go down there. It is very easy to get wrapped up in their story.

Knowing Evangeline Anderson wrote this novel, I found the angst and steamy scenes she does so well. The plot is well set up and delivers that big punch. The experience of reading Submitting to the Shadow is close to the feeling of eating a delicious meal. It takes a while to digest.

I am in love with this series. The books are fast paced and the story is very steamy. Gotta say I was impressed with both characters in this book. Warning there is Dom/Sub play so if you are6in to that read with caution because even if dom/sub isn't your think this story will still get you hot and bothered. My main criticism is once the story climaxes it's a quick decent down the mountain and then it's over. But it is a really good book and the next promises to be a bit better. Seriously if you read the series it will leave you wishing for your own Kindred

A wonderful addition in this wonderful
This is a tale that is filled with desperation of Samantha Grey who desperately wants to escape the man stalking her, he is persistent having followed her from coast to coast seemingly never giving up.
Commander Roark desperately wants Sammi however a previous encounter with a human female has made him very wary, and as the story of these two characters come to life you cannot help but be drawn into the story, the plot and the characters are simply wonderful.
This was an enjoyable read and I am sure that you will find yourself like me unable to put the book down until you reach the final page and discover the final outcome.

Sammi and Roark are so different yet are just what the other need. I wanted to shake them both and yell at them to stop acting like a fool but they needed to develop into the strong confident people they grew to at the end. The really were perfect for each other and this story had me on the edge of my seat from the first page!

Samantha a human female and Roark Kindred warrior connection and chemistry was explosive I was drawn into this story I had to know how things was going to unfold. I wasn't disappointed at all.I love the devotion and care the kindred warrior shows there mates. Hot steamy love scenes I come to enjoy reading with all of the kindred books . I can't wait for the next book to be released.

This is one of Ms. Anderson’s shorter stories and I always think they are her best. The long drawn out and sometimes agonizing path to the end of the story can really interfere with my enjoyment and so these stories, which tend to be less wordy and better paced, are more to my taste. Samantha and Roark’s story is definitely kinkier but the suspense and the love between the characters makes up for it. I ended up enjoying it quite a lot.

A highly erotic but emotional Kindred Tale of how Samantha comes to work for Commander Roark on the Mother Ship.
Very strong feelings are felt shortly thereafter and they rarely spend time apart.
Past traumas and fears cause them to abruptly separate which puts Sammi in a life threatening situation.
Can Roark work through his misconceptions in time to rescue her?
This wonderful book makes you hot, cold, anxious, sad and angry while turning those pages to get all of the answers!

This is bit tame compared to other kindred books but just as lovable. These two work together, but him being a shadow twin he doesn’t believe he can form a bond. He just hadn’t met her yet. Things get a bit steamy between them, but when he thinks she’s lying to him, he’s mean and dismissive. She runs and ends up in a fight for her life.

Another very entertaining and totally over the top installment in the Kindred World. Samantha has the danger of a stalker in her life and her only escape seems to be off planet. Roark has emotional baggage and not looking for love. These two working together have wonderful chemistry. He's so in denial until circumstances and danger change their lives.
I love this series, a total escape from reality.

This book had me from the start. It was an emotional rollercoaster. Sammi and Roark are two characters that you don't think would work well together but they absolutely grab you and have your feelings all over the place. I love this book and I highly recommend you take the time to enjoy this.

It was ok

This is not the best of author book. The edging in the experiment I thought was cruel. Toooo much. Of course it had a happy ending, but I wouldn't recommend this one

Submitting to the Shadow: Kindred Tales 27

Sammi is a human female running away from a dangerous stalker on earth. Her best hope is to snag a job on the Kindred mothership and put her biology background to good use. While interviewing she stays with her somewhat boisterous but well meaning friend Meg, who is mated to a beast kindred.
Sammi interviews with a Commander Roark who is conducting experiments (somewhat non-conventional) to help improve fertility in undated human women who might just happen to want a kindred baby daddy.

Captain Roark is a Shadow kindred. He was a third baby from a twin kindred pregnancy and so he thinks he is supposedly unbondable. He had once been hurt when involved with a human female who he was unable to bond and believes he is infertile. He has quite a disagreeable (gruff) personality and manipulates poor Sammi to not just assist but also submit to his experiments. He isn’t aware she is desperate for this job to save her life.
Sammi is a very likable main character if not weak in the assertive department.
Shocked by the Commanders demands she has no choice but to take the position so she can stay on the mothership. Surprisingly as well, Sammi finds herself feeling aroused by her boss’s “disciplinarian” treatment ass well as the unconventional experiments he is testing.

Somehow Roark gets into Sammi’s heart (and other more private areas) despite his bipolar personality. As always “the heart wants what it wants” which is also thankfully what The Goddess wants.
This was a very enjoyable read with an original storyline. I was not able to predict many of the outcomes and it takes Roark quite lot for him to become the male he had to be.
Lots of emotions, excitement , tension and suspense, danger, crazy steamy scenes ( not even sure if they were vanilla but they were consensual), and another read all night long Kindred Tale.

Pretty typical of her series to date. Female with some trouble and a poor sex life meets Kindred who doesn't think he can bond. Improbable, highly sexualized scenarios they they just go along with and of course enjoy and then find justifications to go farther with them. They connect but he refuses to try and bond since he doesn't think he can. There is a misunderstanding so he sends her away for her own good. Danger to heroine ensures and he rescues her at the last minute. This pretty much sums up every kindred novel to date. However the details vary and this one had a slightly different take than most of them.

The thing that actually bugged me most about this book was the best friend who I found kind of pushy judgy and meddling. I really wished someone would tell her to shut up a few times. Like when she refuses to tell our hero where the heroine is. She's so mad at him and blames him for what goes wrong but things would have gone less wrong if she hadn't decided to "protect" her friend from him she'd refuse to relay her whereabouts sooner or allow him to contact her. Her speaking on behalf of the heroine later almost resulted in the couple splitting for good. Just shut up and butt out already.

Im excited about each new book that is released from Evangeline Anderson and Submitting to the Shadow was no exception.
Commander Roark is a Shadow Twin Kindred, which means he has lost his other twin that he believes allows him to have what he genuinely wants, a mate. Commander Roark is a Scientist on the Mothership and requires the services of a trustworthy assistant. Samantha is the assistant he chooses. There is an instant attraction, a chemistry that wont allow them to escape each other and this is where things become heated and deadly.
Sammi didn’t board the Mothership for the job alone, her life depended on it. She had a crazy stalker following her and successfully scaring her out of her mind. Roark has had disappointing experiences in the past and he doesn’t trust easily. Through a course of miscommunications, unknown facts and the craziness of love the true question is whether Roark can see through all it in time to save his only chance for love.

Never give up on love
Like all books in the Kindred World, I found myself falling in love with these characters. They could both start a lonely-hearts club, but fate and the Goddess is on their side. I love how the author has really continued to expand on her Unbondables and the way that only a female who is Goddess selected will bring out the fertility and bonding of the Kindred males. I enjoyed the added bit of danger and excitement in this book and the way it made Roark open his eyes to what was right in front of him. This author continues to impress me with her ever growing world and her amazing imagination. I look forward to the next book in the series and to see where the Goddess takes her Kindred next.

This was truly a great story. I actually like seeing a story on a Shadow Twin. It is not the first time we have seen a story on a Shadow Twin and I hope to see more. They are truly an interesting Kindred.

Roark was truly hard-headed but that is something we see often in Kindred. I love his passion for his work and his creativity to find ways to be close to Sammi.

Sammi was one that was determined and so right for Roark. She was so willing to go above and beyond in her work.

This story had so much in it. From dealing with a cold personality all the way to passion and there were some steamy parts as well.

A book I truly enjoyed and would recommend.

Our couple comes together through an unconventional approach in this Kindred tale. Roark is a unique Shadow Twin who feels he will never find a mate until Samantha arrives to apply to be his assistant. However, he doesn't believe the signs that it could be true. Samantha is drawn to this mysterious doctor while helping him with his fertility experiments. His approach to the science was definitely out of the box and unconventional to say the least. This tale is a change of pace from the traditional Kindred stories. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This one gets hot and then turns the heat up even more. Sammi was looking for a job on the Mother Ship but it will be the oddest starting with an interview that will shock her. But if she wants to stay on the ship she needs the job. Things will only get more interesting and involve some very interesting items. Plenty of hotness all around. Danger will take an insane twist that will need the help of a goddess.

Submitting to the Shadow

Wow! This book was amazing and hot!! Samantha is a scientist from Earth who is hiding from an unknown stalker who followed her from California to Florida. She flees to her friend on the Kindred Mother Ship and is hired as an assistant to Roarke who is a Kindred Scientist and working on a cure for infertility for women who have a hard time conceiving. When Samantha becomes part of the testing, things get way out of control. Absolutely loved it.

3.5 to 4

The story was mostly good. I liked it until Roark did something that was awfully close to rape. He somewhat redeems himself but I don't think I could have easily forgiven him. Especially how he reacted when he was first confronted by Sammi.

Usually I like these stories. The medical play wasn't too bad up until that certain point. The spankings weren't a bad touch. Just that one thing that Roark did kind of ruined it for me.

They should have mixed up the insemination machine, maybe the breeding chair, or a swing, something to make it different since it is Kindred tech. Wouldn't it be great to find out that she has a shadow twin as well. We found out a little about the stalker, but did he target Sammi? Hopefully time in jail will help him think about the 20 he got maybe wasnt so bad lol. What happened when Sammi took Roark to meet her family for the first time? So fun I bet.

On to the next.......
