Hello and welcome to my Goodreads page! I’m the author of the murder mystery thrillers The Midnight Feast, The Paris Apartment, The Guest List and The Hunting Party — as well as the historical novels The Book of Lost and Found, The Invitation and Last Letter from Istanbul.
I came to writing through a love of reading — I previously worked with books as a fiction editor, a literary agent’s assistant, a bookseller and a literary scout!
Inspired by trips to the West Country and local folklore I began plotting my latest novel, The Midnight Feast. A midsummer heatwave, a setting with a past, a reunion that takes a dark turn. And so The Midnight Feast came to life.
Thanks to brilliant readers around the world, my novels have sold over five million copies, and been translated into multiple languages. I’m also a No 1 New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller. A life-long Agatha Christie fan, I also contributed to Marple, a collection of short stories featuring the legendary detective.
Chosen as a holiday read, I couldn't put this down. I was immersed in the story. I liked how the characters became real, telling their stories in different chapters. Each chapter saw past secrets unfolding.
I just had to find out who was killed and by whom - no spoilers here, but I can say there are plenty of suspects. I am likening it to the latest series of Traitors as the lies and deciepts help to not give anything away. This is the first book I have read by Lucy and her use of Irish folklore, music, and tales of the dead buried on the island all add to the mystery. The wild conditions make it dangerous to venture out alone, the darkness, the howling winds, the peat bogs where if your not careful will pull you under, the dangerous cliff edges should you veer away from the path. The guests are welcomed to an island with no other means of escape unless by boat, where the thrill of a wedding soon turns to horror and someone found murdered. Guessing who the killer is and what happens next?
Wow!! This was fab from start to finish! (I have just read the guest list not the hinting party)
This book is all set at a wedding venue in Northern Ireland. When there is a murder discovered. The book is fantastic. I love that each chapter is a characters point of view and all the twists and turns were amazing! Kept me wanting to read. I hope there is another one to this
I read this book in my ever-increasing search for empty escapism.
This book did not take my mind off of much though. The horror was real - but it was mostly centered on the alcoholism and narcissism of nearly all the characters who attend the wedding of two additionally unlikeable people. Like most thrillers, the plot kept me turning the page but I felt nothing while reading.
I couldn’t find just the guest list on here but that’s the only one I’ve read. Was pretty good, love how it came together and I realised things towards the end. But before the end it was slightly anti-climactic
I absolutely loved both these books. Hunting Party was the better of the two but both kept me guessing until the end. I love the way Lucy Foley writes. Brilliant!!!
The hunting Party -- Listened to this after enjoying several other stories by this Author. It was enjoyable but I knew what was coming and could see through the character development.
