Knowing Where to Look: 108 Daily Doses of Inspiration

Rate this book
A collection of stories, essays, and exercises to spark your creative instincts, activate your inner guidance, and enliven your dreams

Have you been called to express yourself with a level of courage and honesty that surprised even you? Did an image or moment cause you such joy that you needed to share it with the world? If so, you know what it means to be inspired .

World-renowned spiritual teacher Light Watkins has spent most of his life learning how to seek out and tap into sources of inspiration. “Inspiration is part inner guidance, part blind faith in a greater possibility, and part inner voice,” he writes, “nudging you to take an action that helps you grow and expand your awareness.” In Knowing Where to Look , Light presents a trove of compelling inspirational material to catalyze positive change and give you fuel to push through self-limiting beliefs.

Through 108 diverse essays, anecdotes, and parables, Light provides doorways to inspired thinking and imagination. Prompts offer reflection questions and action steps for further bringing your inspiration to life. Here you will also

• Recognizing the opposite of the inner critic and its demands for safety
• The joys and challenges of living minimally in a consumer society
• How to listen for the intuitive whisper of true inspiration
• Why the best action you can take when you’re creatively lost is to keep moving
• How to grapple with fear when it stands in the way of your dreams
• Why following your inspiration will often remove you from your comfort zone
• Questions to ask yourself in order to recognize your blind spots
• How to reorient your attitudes toward the concept of success
• Embracing whimsy and small moments of chaos as allies
• Why the process of achieving mastery is far from straightforward

Rather than being a linear set of exercises, Knowing Where to Look is meant to provide the spark you need just as you need it. Open to any page at random, and discover an unexpected source of inspiration.

I saw Light Watkins on an Instagram live with Adriene of Yoga with Adriene (who I love) and was intrigued by the title of this book. I felt somewhat underwhelmed by this one, but when I went back and re-read lines I had underlined, I decided that it was overall a worthwhile read. It’s a lot of the same self-help stuff you can get anywhere: follow your intuition, start before you’re ready, don’t worry about what others think, etc. I like to copy my favorites of what I underline while reading into my journal, but I’m not sure if any of this is journal-worthy.

This is a delightful book full of short tidbits of very big wisdom we can all benefit from. Light has a way of sharing both his own and other people's stories in an effort to help his readers to listen to life's nudges, follow our inner guidance, take the path of least resistance, and overall how to not fight life so hard but instead to go with the flow.

You can read the book cover-to-cover, or you could pick up the book daily and read only a page, digesting information in daily devotional style. However you read this book, you will come away feeling wiser, and understanding that everything we need we already posses inside of us. How very comforting!

Thank you to NetGalley and Sounds True for the advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Very good. It uses layout and text in very clever ways, which seems potentially gimmicky, it worked for me. The content is the most important thing, of course, and that is a lot of things -- advice, thought provoking, funny, entertaining, etc. Recommended for some inspiration and entertainment.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

This book takes an empathetic approach and gives bite size approaches and allows you to have kindness and patience with yourself when dealing with life. This is so necessary for everyone to read in life. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
