Wrong time, wrong place, definitely wrong person... Sammie Troy just can't deal with her life anymore, so she sells all she's got, leaves her fiancé, and buys an RV. But when the runaway bride parks her truck in front of a small town bar the last thing she's expecting is Leo Bonham. Butch, sexy, and older, Leo is everything that Sammie has never wanted. Not least because she's female. And Leo isn't too pleased about meeting Sammie either. She's off relationships for good, and anyway, that huge RV is deterring customers. Sammie's too straight, too young, and too beautiful for Leo's taste. And Leo's too broken, too stubborn, and too old for Sammie's games. And yet the bubbling excitement between them can't be denied. It should have been just a stop on the road, just another customer, but somehow their lives got tangled together. Right up until one cuts the other free. An escape story turned into a romance, which turned into a tragedy. And the only way to get a happy ending is to leave the past behind... One For The Road is a new stand-alone lesbian romance from Sienna Waters, author of the Oakview and Monday's Child lesfic series.
I honestly don’t know if I just like finding tropes or if Sienna Waters just likes writing them, but ‘One for the Road’ is full of them. Delightfully so. This has: age-gap (13 years), workplace-boss/employee, friends-to-lovers, small town, and lastly, it’s a toaster oven romance. Sammie (27), feeling suffocated by her life and fiancée, sells most of her personal things and buys an RV to set out on her own. Leo (40) is the owner of the bar that Sammie happens to park her RV in front of one night. Sammie needs money to pay for the RV park and Leo is talked into giving her a trial run, against her better judgement. I really liked both of these characters. They’re both flawed and carrying some baggage and insecurities. I felt that they spent more time worried about what they didn’t need or want that they couldn’t see what they had or did want. Sammie has just come out of a long-term relationship and is wanting her independence. She’s spent her life doing what her father and then fiancée wanted. She’s trying to figure out what she wants in life and once she meets Leo, though she’s never been with a woman before, she quickly accepts her attraction to her. She isn’t too interested in getting tied down and is only looking for something to get through the winter and then plans to get back on the road. Leo, for her part, has been hurt from a past relationship and is not interested in making the same mistake again. She’s content living a solitary life with her bar and the bar patrons as her friends. She’s kind of in a rut in her life, but she’s very resistant to change. Leo is cold and standoffish to Sammie at first because she’s trying to fight her attraction that she believes she has no business having for the younger woman. Sammie coming along also brings change to her life that she isn’t ready to accept. She starts by bringing in changes to the bar and then to Leo’s personal life. They start a friends-with-benefits type relationship as neither are looking for or wanting more. There is a black moment, and though I’m usually opposed, for me this worked and was beneficial to their relationship. Once they were apart, they were finally able to see that even though they weren’t looking for a real relationship and were pretty actively opposed to being in one, they had each developed feelings for the other. They needed to be apart to see that they had finally found in each other was what they eventually wanted and needed. For most of the book this felt more like a happy for now which I was actually okay with. They were both seemingly unhappy with their lives and I liked seeing them start to enjoy things again even if it wasn’t what they originally envisioned for themselves or each other. The epilogue brought the feeling of the happily ever after that I usually like to see in my romances.

I really enjoyed this one and am happy to say I feel like Waters is back on form with this story.
Leo runs the local bar in a small town. She lives her life stuck in the past - serving only beer and a few spirits, just making do to make rent on the bar. On the surface she’s a loveable grump, with a heart of gold.
We meet Sammie after she’s run away from everything she knows, purchased a luxury RV and decided to park it in Leo’s lot. She’s drawn to Leo in a way she’s never experienced before, doesn’t know what she wants from life and just wants to earn enough so she can move on again.
Both main characters had plenty about that them I could identify with and I liked their chemistry. There’s an age gap that feels workable - both of them have experiences that make them quite compatible. The secondary characters were also really great. I liked Sara, who has a lot of wisdom for someone so young, but who was able to connect with both Sammie and Leo. I also liked Leo’s friends and the way they forced her to confront her feelings.
I liked all of the different elements that Waters was able to combine into one narrative, including discovering sexuality, becoming an adult, dealing with exes, grief, closure and a heavy dose of finding oneself, without it all feeling too overburdening or rushed. Even the inevitable angst moment felt like it could happen in real life and that these MCs could have made those choices.
I liked the ending and the communication between the two, especially the recognition of why they work together. I’d recommend this to age gap and romance fans in general.

Another great read from Sienna Waters. And another fascinating selection of characters in interesting situations. You can pretty well be assured you'll get a good read with this author.
DNF, I struggled through to 60%. If I had to hear Leo (40) say how young and 'unspoiled' Sammie (28) was one more time, I was gonna scream!!!
I just felt no real connection there for either of them, and definitely didn't see the traits the characters kept talking about regarding the character of Leo's generosity, either. Sammie is also such a lost cause, she herself kept questioning WTF she was doing, but yet still getting herself involved with someone who resisted her for very good reasons, only for her to persist and go "now what?" like a dumb-dumb.
Another brilliant work from Sienna Waters, dealing powerfully with two intense relationship-related themes: moving on from past regrets & failures, and finding one's own truth and path to happiness. This is the fourth book I've read by Ms. Waters, and I continue to be blown away by her story-telling and writing skills. So much of what I've read by her resonates very deeply with my own life experiences. I feel like reading her books is almost like spending time talking with a therapist. Maybe even better. (Oh, and I've read all four books in a row, without a break for another author's work. I've never done that before. This author really has me in her grip!)
Ms. Waters' stories are amazingly original and creative. The characters are distinctly different and vividly portrayed individuals, and each book deals with a theme or themes that differs from the others--and does so with depth, sensitivity, and wisdom. Unlike many romantic novels, these books are anything but formulaic. These are not your grandma's F/F romances!
The author is enormously prolific, too. Since publishing her first book in January 2019, she's kept up an incredible pace of releasing one book every month or two. I don't know how she does that. It's incredible. I'm very grateful, though. I feel like I have a lot to look forward to.
There was so much to love and hate about this book. I loved Sammy and Leo together and enjoyed their first meeting and banter. The confusion of her life leaves Sammy running from her father and fiancé. Where a very sad experience leaves Leo numb and closed off to love. When they meet, although both experience a shock of attraction, they are not on the best of terms. Working through that and ultimately giving in to desires only to have it come apart, rocks both their worlds. It takes both of them realizing that their past can not dictate their future. This was a really good story but at times it was frustrating to see how Sammy could not make up her mind and Leo making the decision knew it was wrong and tried to go on with her life. This part sort of stretched the story longer than it needed.
An RV and two stubborn women who can't see what's staring them in the face - love? Leo (bar owner/operator) and Sammie (runaway bride) star in this hot age gap romance. The mutual attraction, friends with benefits angle, angst, family drama and bottled up emotions took me for a ride with well fleshed out supporting characters in Jack, Peg and Sara adding to the storyline. Emotional dips aside, Leo and Sammie eventually realize being apart is hell and a HEA has to be. Add in hot sex and you have a great escape from the world today. Ms. Waters hasn't disappointed me yet!! I rec'd an ARC through Booksprout and this is my voluntary and un-biased review.
I really liked Leo the bar owner. She is may appear to be a bit gruff, but she has a soft heart. Sammie needs to do a bit more growing up or some therapy. It took me a bit longer to warm up to her. In the end I was happy for them both. The supporting characters are a wonderful addition to the story. Of course I did shed a few tears along the way. I do enjoy Sienna's books because her characters are real people flaws and all.

I think we worry too much and should just go with the flow, that's what I learned from this book! Sammie and Leo needed to communicate better and simply go with the flow it would have saved them a lot of misery. It wasn't my favorite book I think that goes to the last book from Sienna called 'Fair Trade', but it was nice to read and kept me interested over the weekend.

Two totally different people, with different outlooks and places in their lives meet, argue, decide to work together. Each has a path that they individually have to walk to get to the place that they can be the best version of themselves. The highlight for me was Sammie taking the issue that Leo has to being too much, too suffocating "her reason why people leave" and finding a work around even when it becomes uncomfortable, she stands up for the agreement.

The main characters in this age-gap romance each have some emotional baggage to unpack before they are ready to commit to a deeper relationship. There is a decent supporting cast helping them along, including an unusually wise teenager and an RV in need of a good place to park. There is some melodrama towards the end though it resolves relatively quickly. Overall a good read with the anticipated HEA.
A beautiful story for new opportunities, new chances and new challenges. About two so different people who will try their best to be together. Easy to read and easy to follow. There are some scenes in the book that I felt needed more explanations as they had a gap and the end is a bit vague. But overall a very good book
Beautifully written novel of loss, self imposed obstacles, and the possibility of a deep love. Leo and Sammie are good for each other and together they will overcome the painful baggage that holds them down. A good read. Good secondary characters. All of the characters were well developed and relatable as was the plot. I enthusiastically recommend this and any other works by this author. Thank you Peace
Sammie leaves her old life behind and sets off in an RV. She parks in a bar car park belonging to Leo. Leo is a sexy older butch who doesn’t want anything to do with Sammie. The only problem is that their attraction is instant. A well written story with a small amount of drama and a good ending.
Fantastic storyline the main characters were perfect for each other the chemistry was sizzling hot and the twist was well worth it couldn't put it down congratulations
When one is too straight and the other is too butch, what could possibly go wrong? I enjoyed the reading and the characters and almost read it in one set. Very much recommended.

Sienna Waters has become one of my auto-buy authors this year! I am far from caught up with all her works but so far, the ones I have read were all delightful; and 'One for the Road' is no different.
I enjoyed this story. Both Leo and Sammie have their own issues but when they meet, it's pretty apparent they belong together. But how to make that happen....?
