Symbiosis: The Curriculum and the Classroom: The Curriculum and The Classroom

Rate this book
When the teaching profession places the curriculum at the heart of what it does, transformative change can take place. Curriculum reform is now at the forefront of every school agenda; in spite of this, there is a danger that its message may become lost in translation. When curricular change is poorly implemented, teachers experience a complete detachment from their sense of purpose, autonomy, and capacity to become curriculum designers of the future. Employing an astute blend of theory and practice, Claire Hill and Kat Howard offer a methodical approach to designing and delivering a curriculum, to ensure that all feel part of a collective curricular journey. At a time when work on the curriculum can be politicized, monetized and over-complicated, The Curriculum and the Classroom provides a series of practical strategies for curriculum designers at every level, in order to not only keep and develop the skilled and professional teachers desperately needed in schools, but also to provide a world-class curriculum to students.

About the author

Kat Howard

2 books
After an extended period in Senior Leadership within the financial sector, followed by a role working for one of the UK's largest public unions, Kat is Head of Professional Learning at a large Multi Academy Trust. Previously, she was a Senior Leader at an all-through school in the Midlands. Kat is also Founder of Litdrive, a charity that supports English teachers with subject knowledge and professional development. She is East Midlands Representative for MTPTProject, a charity that supports parent teachers with ongoing CPD.

Kat regular speaks on curriculum design, professional development, workload and managing teaching alongside the demands of parenting. She blogs at her website. When she's not doing any of these things, she listens to my eldest son tell her facts about the world, or stop her middle son from putting her youngest son in a headlock. She would say she's 98% effective.

Passed it on to my department head. If followed at all by my school, I’ll be a very happy teacher.
