मदन पुरस्कार विजेता भनेर चर्चित भएपछि बल्ल यो किताबको बारेमा थाहा पाए, पछिल्लो समयमा खासै मन छुने नेपाली किताब नभेटेको हुँदा यो प्रति आश कम नै थियो। मदन पुरस्कारको "स्टिकर" लागेको किताबहरूपनि उत्कुष्ट लागेका थिएनन् तर यो पटक गज्जब भयो।
इतिहासिक बाइसी चौबीसी राज्यकालको कथा हो महारानी, मजस्तो "history"तर्फ चाख भएका तर धेरै जानकार नभएकाहरुलागि यो किताब रमाईलो हुन सक्छ । कथारुपमै भएपनि राजा रानीहरूको , महलको भित्री रहन सहन , बाध्यताहरुको जानकार भइन्छ ।
सम्वादमा प्रयोग गरिएको भाषाले पहिलो पेजहरूमा अलि गाह्रो भयो तर कथाको लयमा धल्किदै गएपछि त्यो पनि सजिलै भयो ।
महारानी "विश्वप्रभा" को योगदान किताबको प्रमुख विषय भएपनि थोरै पेजहरु त्येसतर्फ खर्चिएको जस्तो लाग्यो।
इतिहासको कुराहरू रमाइलो गरि पढ्न पाउदाँ खुसी लाग्यो, धन्यवाद लेखकज्युलाई ।
धेरै मनपरेको किताबको लिष्टमा पर्नेछ यो किताब।

चन्द्रप्रकाश बानियाले लेखेका मदन पुरष्कार बिजयी ऊपन्याश "महारानी" बिना कुनै खोट को छ भन्नु सरासर गलत हुन्छ. बारम्बार दोहोरिएका उखान टुक्का र आगन्तुक शब्दहरुले पाठकहरुलाई कथामा तल्लिन हुन बाधा दिएको मैले अनुभव गरे.

1st book of 2021.
आजभोलि चर्चा महारानी कै छ, चाहे त्यो राजनीतिको होस् वा किताबको वा . . . .
किताबको सुरुका केहि पृष्ठहरु पल्टाउदा यसको भाषा र सुरुवातले खासै तानेन। जसै पानाहरु पल्टिँदै गए, म कथामा डुब्दै गए। पछि त्यही भाषा शैली निकै मीठो लाग्न थाल्यो।
यो मिथकको कथा हो। दरबारको कथा हो। प्रेमको कथा हो। त्यागको कथा हो। केहि हदसम्म इतिहासको कथा हो। बर्बादिको कथा हो।
हरेक मान्छेको जिवन आफैंमा कहानी हो। फरक यत्ती हो कोहि जित्छ्न् , कोहि हार्छन् अनि केहि जितेर पनि हार्छन्। नेपाली समाजको चित्रण गरिएको किताबमा योगमाया पछि महारानीले सार्है प्रभावित बनायो।

Maharani by C.P. Baniya is a novel inspired from the history of Nepal with the storyline based in Parbat district and its surrounding. The story development is a near perfect blend of duty against love, responsibilities against desires and sacrifices against wishes.
The writer has written the story line based on Nepali dialect spoken in Parbat district back in the time when it belonged to 'Baise/Chaubise Rajyas'. This bold move from the writer somewhat makes the reading experience difficult but yet so soothing. Most of the events of the book could be related to Pandavas & Kauravas situations and regardless to say, the main plot of the story might have been inspired from the Mahabharata.
The book is a remarkable read and the book stands out amongst the rest of Nepali books because of the writer's creative imaginations, flawless writing and imaginative world of kings and kingdoms.

Marvelous piece of writing. It can be difficult to engage at first because of the traditional language, but once you get in you are immersed in the story. In essence, this is a story of sacrifice.

While I was on the middle part of this book, I didn't take even a small break till it is over. From this you can know how much interesting is this novel.
The beginning of the book makes you clear that this book is a history fiction and is about a holy place. It also makes clear that the book is written in the way of speaking of local peoples. It begins with the story of a kingdom and its people. During the first part you will know the different story happening within the palace and the doing justice to it's people. The story continues. While entering the middle part you will know the mistake made by the king and that mistake is making trouble in the kingdom. The kingdom deal with the problem sacrificing the future queen of the kingdom.
You won't know the main character of the novel until you reach the ending of the novel.Overall, it is good to read.

Just finished the book. In Maharani, Every time author has to elaborate some historical events, Sumanta Baniya tells the history/story to the other characters. It seems like author was proxying Sumanta character to tell us the story. I really find it interesting. This my second historical novel after Ranahaar and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to author Chandra Prakash Baniya for this beautiful creation.

यस उपन्यासलाई विगत दस बर्ष का मदन पुरस्कार पाएका कृतिहरुमध्येकै सर्वोत्कृष्ट भन्दा फरक पर्दैन। किताब लिएर पढ्न सुरु गरेपछि नसिध्याइ तल राख्न मन लाग्दैन। पश्चिम् तिर खसहरुको इतिहासलाई निकै रोचक तरिकाले प्रस्तुत गरिएको छ। त्यसका लागि लेखक ज्यु लाई साधुवाद।

पर्वत राज्यकाे झण्डै ३०० वर्ष अगाडिकाे कथा हाे । कथा अलि तन्काइएकाे जस्ताे आभाष हुन्छ । सुरूकाे ६०% धैर्य गरेर पढ्न सक्याे भने बाँकी ४०% चाहिँ उत्कृष्ट छ । तत्कालीन परिवेश, महिलाकाे असर अनि दरबारका भित्री कुरा चाखलाग्दा छन् ।

A great depiction of 18th century political layout. It introduces you with the culture, myths and legends (which are still common today in some places by the way).
But I couldn't find it very engaging, narratives are simple, plain and boring. Impressions of characters and places could be more vivid.
There is nothing fascinating about any character or any event, at least not until last few chapters.

This is one of the very first Nepali literature I have read. The writing style is a bit less engaging when describing about something related to history(mainly the story of 22/24 rajya) i remember getting stuck in a pg for 3/4 days.But speaking rather to plot and story of prince and "the maharani" it was good rather little too good.And it reflect the part of nepali society that Nepal claim to have abolished. The jealousy between the brothers and the restrictions from the society are still the thing that are in existence and it is potrayed in rather simple yet intriguing way.
