Razzle – Hanoi Rocks -legendan tarina

Rate this book

Kuvituksena on harvinaisia kotialbumikuvia.

I absolutely loved this book, a great insight and both funny and deeply sad at the same time.

I love this book, from start to end it shows Raz as who he really was and not just a pawn in someone else's story

Never heard the band Hanoi Rocks described better than “the line separating utopia and dystopia was so thin”.

“Everybody knows how Razzle died, but very few know how he lived.”

Ari Väntänen has combined interviews with Razzle’s friends, relatives and former bandmates with excerpts from 1980s interviews with Razzle himself and interviews with his adoptive parents as well. For a man who died aged 24, Razzle managed to cram a lot in his life and affected countless lives.

Personally, I think this book is actually 2 books in 1 and Razzle’s birth mother, Patricia Ingram, deserves a book of her own and a film as well. If you’ve seen Philomena then Patricia’s story is somewhat similar. She grew up in a society where being an unmarried mother was socially unacceptable and was talked into giving her baby away for adoption. She always thought she’d meet her Nicky again but it wasn’t meant to happen. To make matters worse, Patricia’s mother knew that the Hanoi Rocks late drummer was her grandson but only revealed it to her daughter on her deathbed. Patricia’s story is a sad one although she managed to reclaim her life and had 4 more children.

The story of Razzle, the drummer of Hanoi Rocks, who tragically died in a car accident caused by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil. I didn’t know much about Razzle or where he came from but there probably isn’t a single person in Finland who isn’t aware of how his fate also marked the end of the success story of Hanoi Rocks. After reading this book, it seems that the world indeed lost a great person and a musician that day. Don’t drink and drive, folks!
