She's got a magical hand cannon and is carrying God's sword. That makes her tough to beat, but when the devil himself sends the four horsemen of the actual impending apocalypse after her ... ... let's just say all bets are off. With a demon at her side, who she's not crazy enough to trust, Anastasia is going after the missing armour of God. It would be an easier task if anyone on Earth knew where the angels hid it. She'll recruit help, but can she get to the armour before the horsemen get to her? Be ready for a wild-assed ride!
Let's start this off with an invitation to get some FREE books. No, you didn't read that wrong, we are talking about multiple free books. I love giving away free books because once people delve into the fast-paced mystery thrills I write, they go on to buy lots more.
When I wrote my first novel, Paranormal Nonsense, I was a Captain in the British Army. I would love to pretend that I had one of those careers that has to be redacted and in general denied by the government and that I have had to change my name and continually move about because I am still on the watch list in several countries. In truth though, I started out as a mechanic. Not like Jason Statham, sneaking about as a contract killer, more like one of those greasy gits that charge you a fortune and keep your car for a week when all you went in for was a squeaky door hinge.
At school, I was mostly disinterested in every subject except creative writing, for which, at age ten, I won my first award. However, calling it my first award suggests that there have been more, which there have not. Accolades may come but, in the meantime, I am having a ball writing mystery stories and crime thrillers and will claim to have more than a hundred books forming an unruly queue in my head as they clamor to get out.
Now retired from the military, I live in the south-east corner of England with a pair of lazy sausage dogs. Surrounded by rolling hills, brooding castles, and vineyards, I doubt I will ever leave, the beer is just too good.
Ana is in a war without it being announced. Heaven and hell are preparing for an epic war for earth. The demons want humans as slaves and the angels want to protect them. And poor Ana is in the heart of it all. She's not what she appears to be. But what the hell is she. She is on a quest to obtain God's armour before Beelzebub can get it which would make him indestructible. Not only is she in peril but her friends and acquaintances are targets to be used against her? Does she get all the pieces? Will she win?! Why her? This is a series with twists and turns that give you whiplash. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
When I first read the series, I praised the simplicity of the premise and the fast-pace nature of the story. And my opinion of it persists for four books. Little did I know that three books later, I'm on the verge of DNF-ing the entire series.
Let's put it this way. This is the one single fiction book in which I wrote copious notes of. And the reason is so I could write a detailed scathing review of it. Honestly, if Goodreads allow it, this book would receive 1.5 stars and the 0.5 is thanks to the excellent first four books.
So what's wrong with this book? First of all, let me put it this way. I hate Anastasia Aaronson. I thought I would never find a main character that I despise more than Frank Szatowski from The Last One At The Wedding or Lowen Ashleigh from Verity. And although I can't say that Anastasia took the crown, she definitely gave the other two a run for their money.
You know how some men are said to "think with their p*nis? Well Anastasia is someone who "think with her p*ssy". Seriously, her motivation in the book is suspect, and it wasn't helped with her sprinkling her sexual fantasy every now and then in the middle of a crisis that would determine the fate of 8 billion people where she might be the decisive factor.
"Oh the entire human race could be condemned to slavery by a race of supernatural beings? Yeah yeah I guess I'll just run away with this demon who tricked me twice already and might do again because he's hot. And sure just let him hold the sword that I could use to save humanity because look at that body and that face. Oh, a person who looked suspiciously like Jesus, never hurt a human being intentionally, and wants to fight for humanity ask me to join? Yeah.... I'm rather skeptical because that one time one of his subordinates let me fight alone without lending a helping hand"
I'm paraphrasing obviously but that's the gist of this book. The character is unbearable. At one point in one of my notes I urged her to just m*sturbate or something to get rid of her raging libido and start thinking with her actual brain.
To be fair, during the first draft of this review, I am still at 70% mark. But unless she's killed off at the end of the book or something totally dramatic happen which change the entire tone of the book, I'm calling it quit after this book.
And that's not only because of the FMC. After all, the last I checked, this is the last time Anastasia Aaronson is mentioned anywhere in the title. She could be just another fringe character in the coming books the way Otto Schneider is in Anastasia's arc.
No, the reason I might DNF after this book is because the more I read it, the more I think that the author simply doesn't plan the story carefully. Plot hole, continuity error, storyline error, and even one singular typo error. That's a single typo that I've found though. Who knows how many typo I could've found if I don't skim over some totally boring part involving Anastasia's inner monologue. As it turns out, having a novel without intricate, thought-through world-building would only work if it's a single standalone book, not for an 11-book-long series.
I wouldn't re-elaborate things that I've already mentioned in my other review of the books in the series. So yes, even though I don't mention it, I noticed the strangeness about buildings and fashion in the immortal realm.
Let's start with teleport. Teleportation is an integral part of this series because it explains how demons and other hell creatures like ogres and shilts appeared in real world. The series never mentioned about the difficulty of conjuring a portal, or any other limitation other than only a shilt or a demon/angel could do it, you need a physical contact with the conjurer, and it can transport you anywhere you want as long as the destination is not in the same world. Essentially, you can't go from Tokyo to Berlin without first having some kind of layover in immortal realm. But in the book directly preceding this one, it's implied that Daniel could do intra-realm teleportation because in Chapter 9 Anastasia is in police custody (Earth), Daniel then teleport her someplace "near a castle" in Chapter 10, and then in Chapter 11 they teleport again from there to Daniel's home in immortal realm. I noticed it the first time I read it but then I thought that the inter-realm requirement is only applicable to shilt's teleportation so I let it go. But in this book, it's again explicitly mentioned that even angels / demons can't do intra-realm teleportation. So which is true?
And it's sloppy to leave something like teleportation without proper explanation because it could always be a loophole. That's why Harry Potter didn't leave Avada Kedavra without consequences. For example, when Anastasia had the sword, if Daniel wants to curry favor with her, he could suggest Anastasia to power up the sword, teleport her next to Beelzebub, and kill him. It's that easy. After all Daniel even said he knows the layout of Beelzebub's home.
The concept of the armor and weaponry of God is also flawed. Apparently Godfrey used to hold onto it after the death curse for some reason, and the moment they could conjure portal to earth again commissioned some of his angels to entrust boxes containing the piece of these artifacts to human. The reason apparently is to prevent it ever being used by anyone because apparently humans could only handle the box not what's contained in it, whereas angels and demons could handle the box and its content but can't get anywhere near the hiding place because it's "holy ground". You know what would be a better way to achieve those goal? To actually have it and not use it. After all, his forces is the one that is outnumbered "twenty-to-one". If he truly wants to defeat his brother, why not use the only thing that could even out the odds even just a little bit more? Again, there might be reason that could be explained later in the book or the series, but at this point I've lost faith that the author actually has a grand plot twist schemed for later. This might just be the case of "not thought through".
And speaking of "holy ground", it's also laughable how this concept is apparently extended to all worshipping place of all religion regardless of when they were built. Anastasia said it herself. She could just wait inside the church and the demons would not be able to touch her. And what happened if some city decreed that every building in its territory to be a church? Would the demons be thwarted from entering the city?
Those are only the major inconsistencies / plot error. There are many more inconsistencies / inaccuracies throughout the book that made even semi-observant reader like me flinch. For example, in the very first chapter, the date is shown as 2013. Then later in the book, she mentioned that she's "twenty three". And then when she referred to the Yugoslav War, she said "a few years before I was born". The math isn't mathing here because if it's 2013 and she's 23 years old, she must be born in either 1990 or 1991 and that war either start the year she was born or a year after, not "few years before". This historical error joins the historical error about YouTube live stream that the author made in the previous book. At this point I gotta ask, why bother making events in this book took place in 2012/2013 if the first book of the series is written in 2020 and after seven books the timeline only moves a few months?
Overall, I really am not impressed by the new direction taken since book 5 or what I call the Anastasia Aaronson's arc. And my reading time reflect my disdain. I finish the first three books in less than 10 days. It's currently day 5 of this book and I'm only 70% into it and yesterday I only managed 4% of a very short book. And that's why I decided that if Anastasia is not killed off by the end of this book, I gotta let it go. There are still 4 more books in the series after this book and at this rate it'd take me a whole month to finish it and that's a whole month full of grimace and groan as Anastasia inner monologue kept trying to justify her action which may or may not let her get laid by the handsome demon. There are simply too many good books to waste a whole month reading something that I likely won't enjoy.
EDIT: I finished the book. Yes the ending promises hope for the protagonists but not to the story. The inconsistencies are still there and the plot hole just as glaring. Therefore, as planned when I first wrote this review, I’m saying goodbye to the series. The book after this would be about 40% longer and I simply can’t conjure enough willpower to continue the journey from an FMC that I despise.

Really loving this series! As the series continues, Anastasia is forced to retrieve the armour created by Godfrey and Beelzebub's father. It's death and destruction amidst the melee as the search moves across the world. Can Anastasia pull this off and still save humans? The suspense will keep you wondering and reading. Another page turner that's got me used to losing sleep now...lol. Fantastic author!
Humans, demons, angels, and Anastasia. Put them all together and watch the sparks fly!
If you like badassed demons with fierce tempers, or tiny heroines who are good hearted but fiercer than a pitbull on speed, then this is the book for you.
Anastasia is human, but she's not like any other human you'll meet. She has no idea what she is, she just knows that she's different and seemingly able to handle hellfire, which the demons use to kill humans with, and sinfire which her body can produce and which is her main weapon of choice.
Anastasia has been forced to go searching for a set of armour which once belonged to the ruler of the demons eon's ago. It had been dismantled and hidden in multiple churches, mosques, and synagogues, around the world. Anastasia is the only human who is able to get to the parts of the armour.
Anastasia is in a real pickle. Who can she trust to help her defeat Beelzebub the ruler of the demons, who is forcing Anastasia to get the armour for him. Before the curse that blocked the demons from entering our reality, finally breaks and they swarm over the earth, killing in an orgy of horror and violence? The armour will make Beelzebub literally invincible.
This was great fun to read! With tension between humans and supernaturals going on in the background, where pockets of violence are splashed across the news daily, usually due to Anastasia as often as not, this story is filled with urgency and fear.
I think the fact that Anastasia is just a child sized woman makes her an unexpected heroine, and the fact that although human, she's definitely something more is exciting too. But the question is, what is she? And how can she stop the coming destruction and get the armour into the right hands before the curse breaks and wreaks havoc on the human realm.
This is a book you really want to read. It pulls you in, keeping your focus and entertaining you as you go deeper into it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's worth the read.
There’s a lot of recapping going on here and I have to say I’m finding it annoying. My thoughts have always been if you’re going to jump into to series at book 7. You’ll miss things that’s what the previous 6 books were for. If the author wants to help with this do a story so far but at the beginning. That way readers that are working their way through the series don’t constantly have to read the same thing. Over and over again.
Example: Chapter 17 book 7
I knew who it was in my first glance: Benjamin. He was an angel about whom my feelings were still ambiguous. Supposedly a good guy, he’d left me to fight for my life against a squad of shilt while my amputated stumps bled onto the floor. He then did it again the first time I met Daniel and I punched him in the face for it.
Okay look we know who Benjamin is.
Rant over….for now.
The book was good and if you take out all the recapping really good.
The Armour of God: The Power of Anastasia Aaronson by Steve Higgs is the 7th book in The Realm of False Gods series. Having previously retrieved the sword of God and which is taken from her, Anastasia Aaronson is now tasked with finding all the pieces of armour, while fighting off demons who are trying to take it from her, before the portals between the worlds break down and the battle for supremacy begins. Very entertaining and lots of fun but definitely a series to be read in order otherwise you would be terribly lost. Anastasia still does not know who to trust and who is there to help or just use her for their own advancements. I enjoyed this latest adventure.
The Realm of False Gods series is an amazing series with tons of surprises! Book 1 started out slow, but there were enough intriguing new ideas about the supernatural that I stayed with it, and damn am I glad I did! The book just continued to pick up and by the climax I was completely hooked! A new concept of how magic is used, yet based on the elements, as so much magic theory is. New races and a new realm, all very unique. Great dialogue, and relatable characters, hey who can't relate to a 2 and half meter tall werewolf, right?!?!? (that's 8 1/4 feet to us Americans...). Highly recommend this series!!
Even though Anastasia And Daniel the demon Are jumping through portals around the world to find The pieces of the armor of god, Anastasia finds herself captured And taken to Beelzebub. She has no choice but to surrender the sword and kind of "work" for Beelzebub To save her life As well as those of her friends. Lots of action As both Angels and demons Fight And Anastasia Fights for Alex And defeat 1 of the Horsemen of the apocalypse You've gotta read it

This could stand alone, but having the back stories of who, what, when, where and why's will make this book more enjoyable. This is fast pace demension/ portal hopping. trying to gather all the pieces to her defences before the ... sorry no spoilers .... you have demons, angles, shifters and mages, Allies of all flavors. Enemies who dont care what the collateral damages are... a must read!
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Mr. Higgs does it again. Roller coaster pace and believable growth of characters are his stock in trade. Easily my favorite of his many and myriad series, I often find myself annoyed when he releases something else before these. I read those too but come on this is the fate of the world man!
Whew! What a roller coaster ride...I can hardly wait for the next book in this series. Anastasia, Otto, Zachary and the other characters are now friends that I'm anxious to check on to see how they're doing. Mr. Higgs writes an addictive set of books here and when you're left wanting more, you know it's worth the time to read. Recommended.
Another excellent book by Steve Higgs, I really enjoy his writing. Anastacia is starting to become a real character, along with some of the Demons and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Fun urban fantasy with angels fighting demons and hell fire everywhere. Anastasia really kicks ass. I’m addicted to this series, can’t wait for book 8. This one is a cliff hanger though. The next book can’t get out fast enough for me.
Thoroughly enjoyed every word in this book, this series. Have just finished reading it for the second time as it is just brilliant. Excellent plot and characters. I have just download the box set as i think there may be a story i missed! Exciting!
Well-written, with lots of magic being thrown around (literally). Who is good,? Who is bad? Does it even matter? This book ends with a definite cliffhanger...and Yes I plan to read the next book in this series.
Finally, the team is coming together and with some unusual members. The American SIA is changing direction. Will all these changes be enough? On to the next book to see.
A nice wrap up to the Anastasia-focused trilogy in the saga! I look forward to seeing everything tie in together, as well as the further development of Daniel as he is becoming one of my favorite characters.
Anastasia Aaronson has begun to find out she has more supernatural abilities than she thought she had. It has made her a formidable opponent to the Demons that have tried to end her life. What will happen now is the question.
She is a very powerful character in this series, I enjoyed learning about her rise. But I honestly got VERY bored with the back stories of stheSIA characters even skipped a chapter or 2. I knew it would be fine because there's a lot of recapping going on here, I knew I would catch up.
better and better, an interesting moral dilemma, lots of hostage ideas. its starting to get over used but good characters and a story that makes me wonder where hes going next
