This reading journal is designed to help kids dig deeper into the books they are reading, and engage with those texts more thoughtfully. To do this, a wide variety of prompts, questions and activities are provided - and much more besides, from mind maps to reading logs to a Certificate of Achievement at the end! The journal contains a huge amount of fun material, helping young readers plan what they will read and then reflect on it afterwards. It's very interactive, which is why you definitely need a hard copy. It's also beautifully designed and very well thought-out. You will be amazed at how much content is squeezed into this journal! The book review templates alone are worth the price. Every parent who wants to encourage their child's literacy should buy a copy, maybe a few copies!

Note: I received a review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Great reading journal

This is a great journal to keep kids engaged and thinking about the books they read. Helps them understand what they've read and encourages them to think outside the box and on their own in a creative way. I think this would be a great guided journal/reading log for a middle school.

This is a wonderful journal that logs books read, and reading goals.
It helps create good reading habits along with improving writing skills.
It teaches children to better comprehend what they’re reading by asking the questions: who, what, why, when, where and how.
Kids will love the certificate reward when they finish the journal.

I really enjoyed this book and find it very useful for kids and also as a great activity to spend more time together with your kids.

I loved the 'About the Author' at the beginning, since it helped me know a little more about the book and it brought a smile to my face.

The note for parents and teachers was great. It’s crucial for parents to support their kids every step of the way, specially when starting to read. I think that note was perfect and very well placed.

The how too, was also great. It’s always important for children to have short term goals at the beginning of any project they begin, as well as long term ones, but that are doable.

I love how the author keeps on mentioning to ask their parents for guidance. It’s very important and a thing a lot of authors forget. Parents need to be included in children activities.

I’m very grateful that the author asks the kids to follow through, and if it’s not working, they should adjust or change their plan, instead of telling them to quit. LOVED that.

The book is well explained and organized. There are images along the way, so even though you’ll find blank pages, the books watermark/background and quotes makes it fun and interesting for a kid and not boring.

This book is not just a journal, it teaches the kids so much: setting goals, to be organize, if a text is informative or creative, the importance of taking notes, main ideas, how to summarize and best of all, how to understand what they are reading. This is a treasure of a book.

My favorite part was 'How to read fiction'. With before, while and after reading questions as simple as who, what, when and so on, it helps the kids and even adults, (I dare to say), understand what they read and then write a review. As a writer, it even helps you answer questions about your story and the characters you are creating. Loved the while part.

Then the book puts what you learned into practice with exercises. It also include an example for you to read and know what to do on the upper right corner.

Halfway, (50+ mark), it provides you with some cute templates for you to write reviews.
It also includes reading logs with inspirational quotes at the beginning of each page.
Near the end (88+ mark), there are self-reflexions and a certificate of achievement and two patterns to create and design bookmarks. I know kids will love it.

To sum up, this is a great book for kids to learn and put reading into practice. It’s a fun book filed with rich information that even adults can enjoy.

Will recommend!

My Reading Journal Grades 1-3 & My Reading Journal Grades 4-6 are phenomenal, interactive, fun, educational, and easy to use journals! These journals are, "A Guided Journal For Kids To Keep Track Of Their Reading" and wow are they helpful! I wish I had a reading journal like this as a child. I would have loved it and know as a homeschooler my mom would have loved it too! This journal is undoubtedly designed to inspire a life long love of reading!

The formatting of these books is so fun and organized! I love that these journals include a section for reading goals, a reading plan, an explanation of how to use the journal, age appropriate reading tips, a reading log, reading reflection tasks which differ by grade level and for fiction versus nonfiction, a section which encourages book reviews/gives ideas on how to write a review, reading bingo, make your own design book marks, and a certificate of achievement. These journals truly have it all! I adore that there are multiple journals available so readers can graduate by grade level and continue their reading journey!

A fun reading comprehension tool!

This child-friendly reading journal is a wonderful resource and a great reading comprehension tool. Full of fun and engaging activities, this book is well organized and easy to use. As children partake in creative exercises that require thought and imagination, they are guided to look for and learn what is important when reading fiction and non-fiction books.

My Reading Journal teaches skills such as how to set reading goals and create a reading plan,  how to use a reading log, and how to write a book review.  Inspirational quotes are also written throughout the book that promote a love for reading. I love that the journal includes a Certificate of Achievement, along with a final activity to design your own bookmarks.  How fun is that!

This is a fantastic teaching tool that can be used for homeschooling and for the classroom as well as to encourage children to discover a love for reading.  Highly recommended!

Really valuable resource for children to keep track of and explore their thoughts on every book they read. 98 pages, this contains a lot of fun exercises and logs for recording all the books a child reads. I think this will encourage children to read more as they set and achieve their reading goals. Parents and teachers will also become more involved with these early readers as some of the exercises are quite ambitious and may require an adults assistance in getting started. Examples of the many fun exercises are: Listing favorite/least favorite characters of the book. Writing down "fun facts". Creating your own quiz show. There are many, many more. Excellent workbook for home or the classroom. Children can write in the book, so you may want to buy one for each child.

Perfect for homeschooling

I downloaded this as a ‘try before you buy’ thing. It’s wonderful! There is a lot of advice in the front of the journal and then an array of activities for both fiction and non-fiction books. Kids can choose to write poems or make movie posters - so many fun ideas. You can tell this has been written by someone with a lot of teaching experience. I would say this is brilliant for homeschooling parents, teachers or for anyone who wants to encourage their kids to get the most out of their reading time.

Excellent Resource for Child Reflecting on Reading

This is an excellent resource for parents and teachers to help children reflect on their reading. The pages are very well put together and well thought out. I enjoyed the additional tips for patents included in the book as well. The custom bookmark page was very cute too.

This reading journal is packed with great ideas and activities of new ways for kids to explore books. It will help them stay focused on the books they need to read (such as for school) and that they want to read. The ideas will help them explore books from new perspectives. I would have loved to have one of these journals when I was young!
